Labour Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer Has Good Taste in Restaurants | Eater London

"A bar and restaurant at a Charlotte Street hotel just north of Oxford Street where actor Kit Harington — recently out of rehab and looking happy and healthy — was seen eating al fresco with a friend." - Guy Pewsey

I had a wonderful evening at Oscar Bar in Charlotte Street Hotel. Our bartender, Eustace, was exceptional – he guided us through the menu, let us sample the wine, and recommended a beautiful Sauvignon that was spot on. One of the best white wines my friend and I have tried in a while. We also shared a tiramisu which was rich, creamy and delicious. The service from Eustace and the rest of the bar team was 10/10. A fantastic experience and I’ll definitely be coming back, particularly because of the hospitality more than anything else!

Oscars is located in the Charlotte Street hotel. It is artfully decorated. We had brunch on Sunday and it was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant not only for the excellent culinary experience but also for the great service.

I’ve been here a bunch of times and it’s always chill - one of the only good hotel bars in London imo

Google
Very calm and Nice atmosphere inside. Starters and salads are nice and tasty but mains are just ok. Avoid burger - it’s very dry, tomato is tasteless and bread is too cheap. Otherwise - service is good! Service charge is 13.5% (highest I have seen!)

Google
Oscar Restaurant was disappointing and overpriced. The side dishes were poorly executed: the tomato and mushrooms were overcooked, and the peppercorn sauce tasted distinctly pre-made, lacking the quality expected at this price point.

I have read other peoples 4 star reviews. I am sorry but my party of 4 did not experience a 4 star service. A celebration for my cousins 60th turned into a fiasco! Staff seemed confused and disinterested in serving us. The 4 of us were seated at a tiny table which was not big enough for all three platters (2 classic and 1 gluten free) and teapots, glasses, cutlery. As an avid afternoon tea Oscars was a complete disappointment. Sandwich fillings were boring, boring, boring and so sparingly filled. Cakes were also boring boring, boring nothing at all indulgent. We were told that additional sandwiches would come at a cost! A first, I have never ever been told this at an afternoon tea experience! The indulge afternoon tea offered up weak alcoholic cocktail’s and the abstain gave a couple of tasteless and weird combination mocktails. The whole point of afternoon tea is to drink a variety of teas. At Oscar’s you have to stay with your first choice of tea. Oscars is more of a bistro than a place to indulge in an afternoon tea - they are not there yet! There are far better and lovelier places in London for afternoon teas. Oscars was disappointing.

Such a lovely lunch experience! Have been wanting for some time to go for lunch and today was the day! Really nice and delicious menu options! Opted for the bacon wrapped monk fish and oh my days- cooked to perfection. So tender, juicy and delicious! Usually I am not keen on the bacon but on this one was just amazing. Complemented the monk fish so well! My colleagues enjoyed their food as well! Will have to go back for dessert anytime soon. The service was spot on & such a beautiful location too.

Had an afternoon tea experience gifted to us for our wedding. The afternoon tea was rather splendid, great sandwiches, exquisite jam selections, the cocktails that went with the cakes and sandwiches were delicious and very flavourful. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
Hotel bar/ restaurant at Charlotte Street Hotel. It's a good place to stop by for a post-dinner coffee or tea. They still serve hot drinks at night, and even though you won't be their main customer segment, they won't kick you out. Haven't tried their food or desserts.

Yelp
Despite being quite big, Oscar restaurant offers somewhat intimate setting with dimmed lights and flowers on the table. However, when it's busy it gets quite noisy. The food was incredible and elegantly presented, which is reflected in the prices. Portions are very moderate, which is common for restaurants that are on sophisticated side.

Yelp
just finished lunch having ordered a burger with a friend. both overcooked past edibility and over priced to say the least. this place is not worth a visit and is a far cry from the place it once was. stay clear

Yelp
Trendy bar and restaurant in this vibrant part of The West End of London. As with most restaurants on Valentine's Day, it's a difficult balancing act between quality of food/service and price. On this basis the restaurant probably got it wrong on this occasion. The evening felt a bit like a production line and somewhat rushed. Food was average but the service was very good. I would probably go back on a 'normal' day to give the restaurant another try.

Yelp
The atmosphere is very cool, seeing as the art is somewhat modern and the setup for the seating is is intimate yet still bright and fun. I ordered and afternoon tea with a glass of champagne, and it didn't disappointX the scones and clotted cream were some of the best I've ever had. I'd go back for those alone. The biggest plus for me was that I was able to sit back and read the paper and not feel like I was being rushed to leave.

Yelp
Had drinks and scones at Oscar yesterday... Ambiance is great. Cozy, cute, and not loud. Service is just okay. We saw our waiter just one time and then had to flag down other staff to help with additional requests. Tea and scones were warm and nicely presented. My daughter wasn't a fan of her hot chocolate, which she said was very watery. Not sure we'll be rushing back here but it was definitely nice to give it a try.

Yelp
Just okay bar with street terrace seating. Stopped in for a late afternoon bite; was offput by the policy of taking your card to run a tab...they are the only place we've run into that; they have a problem with people running out on their bill. After the nonexistent service we got from the girl who took our order, I can see why--she never came back after she took the order. Someone else brought out the appetizer and after waiting for a while we stopped another server and ordered a couple of tapas and he closed out our bill. The food was pretty good but the service ruined the experience.

Yelp
I am usually not a big fan of hotel lobby bars, but this one is definitely an exception. Granted, Charlotte Street Hotel is a nice boutique hotel, so Oscar Bar also doesn't look like you run of the mill hotel lobby bar with middle aged men in business suit drinking by themselves. It is on trendy Charlotte Street and attracts a lot of locals who are just here for a drink after work or before dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed and yet polished. The bar is quite big, but it can get so busy that they have to turn people away. The cocktails are quite good here as well. They also have nice outdoor seating area facing Charlotte Street. I can see this being a nice spot for a lazy Sunday afternoon drink and people watch.

Yelp
Finding a good afternoon tea in London last minute under £40 is quite a task as it's so damn popular. When searching I remembered Charlotte Street Hotel and got clicking. The hotel group have a number of establishments across London so you are spoilt for choice. Due to my friend's train timings I also needed an early afternoon tea for 1pm, gasp in horror at the faux pas! I like Charlotte Street as it's set back from the hustle and bustle of Tottenham Court Road but convenient to get to. Now to the nitty gritty. When I booked I managed to get a mid week deal which was a bonus. We chose the the traditional tea. Everything is smartly presented and the scones arrive warm. The sandwiches were good and so were the scones. The rest was fine but nothing to write about. What did please me was the option for more sandwiches, we didn't though I was tempted. The draw backs of Oscars... Very cramped and busy. Also the decor is a little too much, I think they are trying too hard. Overall though a good place to come for a reasonably priced afternoon tea.

Yelp
Yummy; I'll have to remember to return! I had a breakfast meeting here this morning, and the staff was lovely. I saw them checking on other tables as often can be expected, but skipped mine - I'm guessing it's because I mentioned when booking that it was a meeting and privacy would be appreciated. Spot on, guys. My tea was delicious, which is strange for me to say as an American who often finds English breakfast tea a bit bitter without milk and sugar, but this tea didn't need anything and I drank it black, and loved every sip. My table shared a pastry basket, and I recommend it if you're hungry and want something sweet. There were 6-7 pastries in the basket, which is surprisingly good value (the basket costs about £6, if I remember correctly). I saw other tables eating from the buffet, getting hot food, etc - it all looked and smelled delicious. I'm definitely going to keep this in mind, and will suggest it as a meeting place when I'm in the area.

Yelp
I love the facade of The Charlotte Street Hotel; the colors grey and green look perfectly in harmony with the feel of this busy street. Inside the hotel you get the feeling that it's a "boutique hotel" The service is really kind. The place gets packed on evenings and especially on Thursdays and Fridays, and the crowd is very much corporate with some media types as well, so it's an adult environment. The drinks they prepare are really good, try a Negroni, it's a classic cocktail that is refreshing and tasty. I've never tried the food, but when I was there it looked delicious.

Yelp
Had afternoon Tea today after a great experience I had but have to say how disappointing it was today. The sandwiches were awful, the bread was hard and dry. We didn't have enough scones and we had to keep asking for water and tea top up as the service was really not there. They didn't ask how it was other wise would have said something. Such a disappointment to celebrate my 30th

Yelp
We had a work brunch here and it was fresh, delicious and good service. Perfect place to have a working breakfast or lunch, also perfect decor and atmosphere.

Yelp
Food, ambiance and service are fantastic at Oscar Bar. Only thing missing is to light up a good cigar

Henrietta J.

Yelp
The drinks are ok, though expensive even by London standards. Afternoon tea and food below average, condescending, indifferent service. Nicely designed place, but it does not deliver what it promises. a little more attention to the food please...no more stale tasting snacks.

Yelp
Had 2 meals here. First, a business lunch sitting at the covered outdoor tables on Charlotte Street. Great people watching, fantastic location at the terminus of Windmill Street. Had the Sea Bream which was fantastic. Liked it so much had dinner there with family. Lively on a Friday night, full of action. Had the duck -- also great. Not sure why this place has only 3 stars!

Yelp
I went for afternoon tea. Even though this was a cheaper tea, the food overall was not good. The only saving grace was the service. One of the waitstaff was particularly attentive, but I was checked in on frequently. My friend had the Bloomsbury Tea at Christmas and said that the food was good. So maybe you should just avoid the Traditional Tea. Or just not take the chance and go somewhere else.

Yelp
From the exterior, the Charlotte Street Hotel (and the Oscar Bar), with its classy gray, window-paned front and striped awnings, looks like a gem of a place. But while I can't speak for the hotel itself, I've been to the Oscar Bar a few times for drinks and am always underwhelmed. The drinks and barstaff (and the bar snacks) are fine - it's the feeling of the place that doesn't work for me. I find the general layout and "contemporary" decor a bit icky and soulless - with its mix of jewel-coloured chairs, long hanging lights and chaotic community murals, it's like a refurbished airport lounge. It's also usually quite bright inside and filled with office-y folk speaking loudly, which isn't a problem except that I tend to prefer having drinks in a non-workaday environment.

Annabelle K.

Yelp
Their afternoon tea is wonderful here. Been a couple times and each time did not disappoint. The presentation is gorgeous with cute teapots and teacups and a wonderful display of tea treats. Love their scones!! There is a lot of food and I wasn't able to finish it even though I hadn't eaten much all day so definitely go when you are hungry. It is a bit pricey for tea but I think pretty fair priced for London (22.50 pounds per person for the traditional tea, more for champagne, specialty teas etc). Hope to go back again next time I'm in London.
