"Fortunately, there are still restaurants that exist with a strong family lineage – and Oseille is a perfect example. Run by chef Thomas Troisgros (son of Claude Troisgros, grandson of Pierre Troisgros and nephew of Michel Troisgros), it is located in the heart of Ipanema, right above the Toto restaurant (also part of his stable). Here, in a minimalist space that stands out for its profusion of wood and the prominence of a 16-seat “U”-shaped counter with a kitchen in the middle, guests can enjoy a heightened fine-dining experience through a unique, and modern-inspired tasting menu (5 or 7 courses) showcasing strong French technique and the best local ingredients (we were bowled over by the dish featuring “cavaquinha”, a crustacean similar to lobster). The name of the restaurant takes its inspiration from the legendary “saumon à l'oseille” (salmon with sorrel), created in 1963 by Thomas’ grandfather, the great French chef Pierre Troisgros." - Michelin Inspector

The Best New Restaurants in the World: 2024 Hot List

"In late 2023, chef Thomas Troisgros—the fourth generation of the renowned French culinary dynasty—opened Toto as something like a Parisian neo-bistro, but with a menu inspired by the chef’s travels around the world."

The food is really good. But the price is almost equal to a two Michelin star restaurant, so value for money is really not there. For R$ 650 per person you can definitely have a better fine dining experience. The wine pairing costs an additional R$ 380 per person, but the wines are not that good and they will serve you the bottles they have opened the day before while they don’t even use a simple vacuum pump to preserve the wine from oxidation. Again, the food is really good and worth trying. But it’s definitely over priced (I’d double of what it should be). But wine pairing is definitely a no go.

Phenomenal food that left us feeling just the right amount of content. The wine pairing was just as outstanding.

I visited this establishment and enjoyed the excellent food and amazing service from the staff. While waiting for our seating upstairs, we grabbed a drink at Toto downstairs, and the bartender was hands down the best I’ve ever encountered—an outstanding experience. Unfortunately, I have to deduct a star due to poor communication after the visit. After realizing I hadn’t kept a copy of my receipt, I contacted both restaurants via Instagram for a copy for personal use. One left my message on read, and the other hasn’t responded even after a week. The owner told me to reach out via Instagram, but that didn’t result in any follow-up. While the in-person experience was great, the lack of communication after payment left me unimpressed.
