The 17 Best Restaurants In North Beach And Little Italy

"Osmanthus wears many hats. It’s first and foremost a dim sum restaurant on a touristy stretch of Broadway with excellent Cantonese standards, like shrimp cheong fun and slightly crispy XO noodle rolls. But this place also has a full bar in the back decorated with pagodas and dragons, TVs streaming horse races, and some of the best garlic noodles in SF. Leaving without getting face-to-face with a heap of the chewy, fragrant noodles is not an option." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong

The 11 Best Dim Sum Restaurants in San Francisco

"Osmanthus feels random. It’s smack dab in the middle of a touristy section of North Beach, has a full bar decorated with miniature dragons and pagodas, and sometimes streams horse racing on the big TVs. The crowd is a mix of locals and visiting families, and they’re all filling up the quirky space for one reason: the surprisingly excellent dim sum. The menu covers dim sum standards like siu mai, shrimp cheong fun, and XO noodle rolls that get the job done with ease. But the runaway hit, however, are the chewy, fragrant garlic noodles, which are some of the city’s best. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

The 10 Best Garlic Noodles In SF

"We don’t expect to find garlic noodles at dim sum restaurants. Especially at Osmanthus, a swanky Cantonese spot off a touristy stretch in North Beach. But they’re on the menu, and they’re f*cking incredible. Each noodle is the ideal level of chewy and has the right ratio of fresh garlic to butter. And once a plate lands on the table, you’ll have to be pried off the premises just so you can stop yourself from ordering another round, and then another." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

We came for dinner. When this location used to be Enrico's, they used to have live music. Fast forward to now, it is a Chinese restaurant. The layout remains the same. There's a bar on the right hand side but it is now missing the lively atmosphere. It is quiet roomy restaurant. The food all tasted fine. Since it wasn't busy, service was excellent as there were only three other parties in the restaurant. Good job staff at Osmanthus.

Google
3.5 stars. The food was decent but not out of the world. They allow pets on the patio, which was a big draw since our group had a dog. It was super cold outside even with the heaters, which wasn't as pleasant. We ordered the spicy wontons, the soup dumplings, the chicken dumplings, the coconut fish curry, and the Singaporean style noodles. We also got a pot of jasmine tea to warm up. The jasmine tea was lovely and helped with the cold immensely. The food came pretty quickly after we ordered it. A heads up that the curries do not come with rice, so you have to order it separately. The spicy wontons were good. For those who don't like schezwan peppers like me, beware that there is a hint of those peppers in the sauce. It isn't to the extent of numbing your tongue, but you feel a little bit. I liked the dish despite this. The soup dumplings weren't properly structured. They came in the aluminum foil cups and it was near impossible to take them out of the cup without splitting them apart, which means that the soup and the meat were now separated. It defeated the purpose of the dumplings. Considering that I am used to the intact dumplings from Din Tai Fung, this was quite disappointing. The soup was ok. The meat was ok. I just wish I could have had both together. The chicken dumplings were fine. I can't say that they were best ever but they weren't bad. They were ok. Eating them with the spicy sauce from the spicy wontons helped. The fish curry was honestly the best of the lot. The fish was wonderfully melt in the mouth with a very thin breading and the coconut based curry was delicious. It was a huge portion so my friend ended up taking almost 3/4 of it home. I would definitely recommend ordering this! The Singaporean style noodles were ok. If you are expecting Char Kway Teow when you read this, you will be mistaken. The noodles are more along the lines of vermicelli and the spice mix reminded me of a Japanese curry or an Indian Ching's instant noodles mix. We liked them, but I think we had a different expectation in our head. This dish is also not spicy so if you want heat, this is not the dish to order. Pricing wise, I think we paid an acceptable amount for the portions we got but the flavors could be a little better. Considering that this is a dim sum restaurant, I would really like their dumplings to be more on the mark.

Google
Had an amazing outside dinner! Every dish was so delicious, especially the Szechwan meals. The outside seating area is very pretty but a little loud next to the street. It would be nice if they added some extra plants or something to dampen the noise of the cars driving by. Great place!

Google
The food was all good. while the flavoring was mild, it was all good. Every dish. There were some good vegetarian options. The server was kind and attentive. The facility was appointed and clean. Bathrooms need a little more maintenance, but are pretty good.

We ate here for my husband’s birthday. We ordered beef chow mein, scallop dumplings, spicy pork and shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings, custard buns and bbq buns. We were quite disappointed with the pork soup dumplings as there was barely ‘soup’ when you bite into it but the dumpling itself tastes good. The custard bun is average compared to other restaurants while the rest of the food is good.

We stopped by for a few bites because we passed by this place so many times and finally decided to give a try. We were a pleasantly taken aback by the quality of food and speedy service. The value for the money is great.

Google
One of the things I’m looking for with Dim Sum is a balance between quality, portions and cost. Some people recommend dim sum places that are cheaper or give huge portions but they end up being oily and chewy. Alternatively, some dim sum places are delicious, but the portion sizes are tiny and the hit to your wallet is certainly *NOT* tiny. I am happy to say Osmanthus is the perfect blend of both!! Portion sizes are great, the variety is there, but the dim sum feels fresh and well made - and it’s both delicious without being very expensive. Service was quick, and the large open setting feels lively and elegant, without being pretentious. Clean bathrooms are pleasant and a large open bar adds to the ambiance. The area around is a bit sketchy though so park a little Closer to Chinatown and you’ll be fine!

Google
Amazing Soup Dumplings! Actually, I had planned to go across the street, but they were closed, so I went to Osmanthus. 4x orders of Steamed Shanghai Dumplings 1x Honey Walnut Prawns And an order of string beans with XO sauce. Food is amazing. 10/10 , perfect flavor and spice. Well go again and again and again. Lol. I'm already hungry for more.

Yelp
Osmanthus Dim Sum Lounge was 100% a Yelp recommendation as we were walking around North Beach looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating. After being seated under their incredibly strong heaters, we ordered the Iron Goddess Oolong tea, Spicy Wontons, BBQ Bao, Garlic Broccoli, and Pork Xiao Long Bao. The honey and I absolutely adored their tea, BBQ Bao, and most especially their Garlic Broccoli - we both agreed it would be amazing if our local dumpling spot boasted that dish. However for us, the Spicy Wontons and XLB were a bit of a miss with the wontons not being a style the honey enjoys and my finding the XLB to be a bit bland. All in all, the seating was very comfortable and the service was incredibly prompt so we'd absolutely stop in again for the items we loved!

Yelp
The waiters were so friendly and had good recommendations. On a Thu evening, the charming restaurant has a few groups but I can tell a bar and restaurant like this could blow up on Fridays evenings. For food, these portion sizes were gigantic. My friend and I will have leftovers for days! Highly recommend the egg + oyster fried rice, XO green beans, and sizzling tofu. What a delight for our taste buds. Although some of the dishes are exceptional, weaker dishes are the Peking duck and shrimp and pork wontons in chili sauce. The duck was fine, but more of a roasted duck BBQ variety than true Peking. And the wontons were lacking salt although the filling was umami and moist.

Yelp
We stopped by after finding out our favorite spot, Harborview, was closed today. Saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try since it was nearby and honestly, we were pleasantly surprised! Everything we ordered was delicious: the beef chow fun, honey walnut prawns, seafood curry puffs, Siu Mai and baked bao were all really flavorful. The Peking duck had great flavor, though I do wish the skin was a little crispier. The wonton soup was tasty but came out more warm than hot, which I usually prefer. Also, our shrimp roll never made it to the table initially, but once we mentioned it, they quickly fixed it,the service overall was great, even with that small hiccup. I've seen some reviews mentioning that it's pricey, but honestly, for the amount and quality of food we got, I thought it was very reasonable. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
We traveling all over USA for dumplings and this was by far the least favorite we ever had. The texture and the meat was out together great, however there was no soup in the dumplings and had a strong seasoning that powered it. The string beans were good, could have been cooked just a tad more. The drinks were strong!!

Yelp
Lots of seating and open-bar ambience and seated right away @ walk-in. Staff very attentive and checked on us . Dim sums were satisfactory but not super impressive. The food didn't arrive as hot ( temperature) as I prefer, especially the congee soup. Otherwise, tasty and savory dishes.

Yelp
This dim sum restaurant is a hidden gem! The storefront is recessed with nice outdoor seating, so if you drive by, you would easily missed it. Their service is fast and friendly, the setting is very comfortable. Their service best part? The dim sum is solid, and their portion is healthy! To top it off, they also have a nice cocktail bar, so you can have dim sum while trying some cocktails. Definitely it a try if you are in North Beach area.

Yelp
Went here for lunch and it did not disappoint! They were moderately busy on a Saturday right before noon, though we got seated quickly and efficiently. You place your order on a giant piece of paper and flag down your server to get that order ready for you. The food came out quickly as well. Everything that we had was tasty! My only commentary would be that the garlic noodles were a little too salty for my palate. Another colleague of mine dining with us, had to eat the garlic noodles with plain white rice, to cut down on the saltiness. Overall, the ambiance is modern with large tables to seat bigger parties or those that order tons of food. I would definitely eat here again!

Yelp
The location is great with parking close by. The restaurant is spacious. We were seated right away. They offer online reservations too. Order from a paper menu marking what we wanted. The food was paced out well. We over ordered but ate it all. The service was friendly. Great Christmas Eve option!

Yelp
Osmanthus impressed, despite my family being initially slightly skeptical over it being a cart-less dim sum spot. Overall ambiance feels more upscale than any other dim sum spot I've ever been to, but this didn't come with a compromise in authenticity at all. Every dish we tried had its own unique flavor, which sets high-quality dim sum apart from generic dim-sum that often feels like the same blend of meat is used over and over. Ingredients felt fresh & high-quality. Would definitely return & highly recommend!

Yelp
The service was great considering one man was running the whole floor! He worked very hard and efficiently. It's clean and spacious, the food came quickly and was fresh. The dumplings were great, especially with the chili oil and vinegar dip with it. The garlic noodles portions could feed four so definitely worth the price!

Yelp
This is my favorite dim sum spot in SF Chinatown! They offer such good quality dim sums plus a full bar too. You have to try everything here! They have such a good selection but if you like dessert then order lava salted egg dumplings. It's basically a fried mochi ball with lava fillings. The way they fried it is not greasy when you eat it. You can't find that at other locations. They are fast and bring out food out piping hot! They also gave us a lot of good recommendations. It was such a nice day to sit at their outdoor seating but this place feel so nice. I just love it! I highly recommend this place. I ordered so much stuff to name it but check out my photos. TY If you like my vibe then pls add me on Yelp or IG @imjennime TYSM

Yelp
We definitely over-ordered here but everything was so delicious and tasted very high quality and fresh! I highly recommend the veggies with garlic as well as the shumai and house noodles. It's a very large and casual space and the service is quick!

Yelp
Good food and enormous portions. Green beans were too salty but that's the only dish I'd complain about.
google avatar

Karrie C.

Yelp
Cute, busy spot with whimsical lantern lamps and wood accents. The staff were decently attentive especially when we first sat v down. The crispy onion cakes were great hot out the kitchen. The Shanghai crab and pork soup dumplings had plenty of crab and yummy broth. The BBQ pork had the pillowy dumpling texture you would expect from a steamed bun. The beef noodle roll was interesting. I'm not v sure what itv actually is but the flavor was nice. The STAR was the salt v and pepper wings. Perfectly crispy and seasoned!

Yelp
I came in right after the lunch hour rush, which was a perfect time. I was seated right away and there was only one other guest in the restaurant. There was a lot of space inside and outside to dine. Ambience is traditional and vibrant with music and lots of space. The young man that helped me was attentive and patient which I appreciate. The menu is full of dim sum favorites. I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage with ginger beer inside. It was delicious . I ordered, lunch items, hot -and-sour soup, egg rolls, and the shrimp and chives dumplings. The shrimp and chive dumplings were my favorite. The flavors were amazing. Traditional hot sour soup and the egg rolls were a perfect finishing to my lunch. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu and bring more people with me!! it seems like a great place for a large work lunch or dinner party!

Yelp
Had some good lunch at this North Beach dim sum bar and grill. It has a classy yet casual atmosphere inside. Osmanthus has more than just dim sum though. Get a lot of Asian classics. The best thing of course is to get what they're known for because this is the best stuff. Came at lunch and it wasn't as busy. It's got enough room for a good crowd. The dim sum is the main thing. Because it's also a bar they have cocktails. It's about $12 for a typical cocktail, and the best one we had was the Tokyo Highball. Basic but full of flavor. This was made with Fever Tree Lime, Toki Japanese Whiskey, and yuzu. For those not aware, yuzu is a citrus fruit. It's about $6 for the Spinach Dumplings, which came out fast and steaming hot. These were filled with corn, peas, and tofu. Good stuff as far as dumplings go. It's place to go if wanting to eat healthy and not too much. There's a few choices on the menu for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
After going to the Chinatown Autumn Moon Festival, my family and I decided to have lunch here. We didn't have to wait for a table and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. I've been here twice with coworkers and family before, and I remember the food being pretty good. It's a modern spot with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating located closer to Little Italy. Prices are more expensive than the typical dim sum restaurant. Our order: House Tea ($1.50/person) -It was red tea, and it wasn't very good: If you have a group, it's probably better to pick a tea from the tea menu ($9.00/pot). Baked BBQ Pork Bun 焗叉燒包 ($6.45/3 pcs) +Crispy crust that was slightly sweet +Good amount of well-seasoned BBQ pork that wasn't too fatty -Thought the thin layer of shaved carrots and greens on the bottom were out of place Shrimp & Chive Dumplings 鮮蝦韭菜餃 ($6.95/4 pcs) +Fresh, chewy steamed wrapping +Good amount of shrimp & chive filling Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai 蟹黃燒賣 ($8.45/4 pcs) +Filled w/a good mix of lean pork, shiitake mushrooms, and shrimp +Topped with roe -More expensive compared to other dim sum places Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf 珍珠糯米鷄 ($6.45/2 pcs) +Rice was cooked well: Not too mushy without any hard pieces +Contained the typical suspects: Chicken, Chinese sausage, salted egg yolk, and shiitake mushroom Fresh Bean Curd Rolls 鲜竹卷 ($6.45/3 pcs) +Black bean sauce added the perfect amount of flavor: We ended up dipping the tripe in here. -Thinner compared to other dim sum places, so there wasn't much filling Steamed Beef Cattle 白灼牛栢葉 ($9.95) +Huge portion of boiled beef triple on top of a bed of crisp bean sprouts -Very bland: The accompanying sauce and scallions didn't add a lot of flavor -The server poured the sauce over the dish once he brought it to our table. It'd be better if he just left the dish of sauce on the side because some customers may want to add it themselves. Marinated Five Spiced Beef Offal 五香牛雜 ($11.95) +Turnip was tender and not fibrous -Turnip was bland, so it didn't seem like it was cooked with the meat -When we asked the server what types of cuts were included, she said there was a wide variety. However, when the dish arrived, it only contained the honeycomb tripe, which is the cheapest of the cuts. *Verdict: 3.5 stars rounded down to 3. I noticed there were some tables that didn't finish their food, so maybe the kitchen staff have changed? Not my favorite place for dim sum, but it's a decent spot for dim sum without a wait in the area.

Yelp
One of the best Chinese restaurants in town and our favorite too in Chinatown SF. We always order the salt & pepper calamari, seafood-tofu clay pot, Gen Tso's chicken & combo fried rice. Try it. It's so so delish and yummy.
google avatar

Lorenzo G.

Yelp
Down in Chinatown in San Francisco wanted to try out this place that said they had good dim sum. It was OK. I had the fried rice noodles with barbecue pork and I thought I had ordered sweet-and-sour ribs, but they don't communicate very well and with three people taking my order that barely spoke English. I ended up with the wrong dish. Had to send it back places clean good house music.
google avatar

Mimi D.

Yelp
Pricey n just not great. The texture of the dim sum was more mushy than anything else. Found it to be flavorless too. With all of the delicious places around, often with more competitive prices, I don't think I'd come back. The veggies were ok tho. No carts here so just order. People mentioned the pork buns and the egg sesame thing so we got both. The hot egg inside was grainy and the sesame mochi outside was familiarly mushy like the other stuff. If someone wanted to go here I'd stick to veggie dishes, the pork buns n that's it. Might be good if you're coming for cocktails and Chinese food but I wouldn't come for dim sum. For this price I still think I'd want to go elsewhere. Surprised it's marked as two dollar signs, considering similar ones are tagged with three dollar signs. It's also in a kinda funky part of town on the outskirts of where most people would be wandering so wouldn't be worth it if you have to go out of your way. Service was fine.

Yelp
This place looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. It's really cute inside. They communicated to our group an approximate wait time and sat us within that time frame. The service was quick once we ordered our food. It was delicious and we ordered a lot! The pan fried rice noodles were semi-addicting. The crisp on the outside of the sesame balls was light, not over cooked, and they had a moist chewiness to it; a different bean or maybe lighter in color than what I'm accustomed to, but still good flavor. The flavors for the dim sum dishes we ordered were all great! The price was awesome for a group of 5. Don't burn your esophagus as you eat the hot and sour soup. It was so good, but it came out piping hot! Loved it! None from our group ordered any alcohol, but it seemed like they had a legit bar available. And the bathroom was clean for such an old building. Hope you enjoy your meal there, as we all did. Would definitely return here when we are in SF again. They had a funny chalkboard sign that said something along the lines of food and whiskey, what else do you need?!? Agree!

Yelp
Dim sum restaurant on broadway right at the intersection where kearny intersects. Small, medium and large dishes are a tad more expensive then other restaurants. They have an outdoor space that is pet friendly. Everything was done pretty well. On weekends, especially sunday, parking is not bad as the neighborhood is typically a night business area with bars, clubs, etc. service is typically like other dim sum restaurants. Their teapot though was better made and rarely leaks (which is typical in many chinese restaurants) Total came to $35/person. Given it's one of the few dim sum restaurants that is pup friendly (in addition to harborview, palette), will return for sure!

Yelp
Went here for an early dinner around 5 on a Saturday. Restaurant is a lot more spacious then it appears to be on the outside, and they still have outdoor seating! Our server was really nice and had great recommendations for us. She was also able to answer all our questions with ease. The food was amazing! Had about 6 different dishes. All the Xiao Lun Bao was delicious no matter what protein! The pecking duck was also AMAZING. Have no doubt that everything on the menu tastes delicious! Overall would highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great dim sum! Opens at 10:30am. The spinach dumplings are good. Shui Mai dumplings were delicious. Custard buns were a yummy dessert. Make reservations online as it can get busy. High quality Chinese food.
google avatar

Viv S.

Yelp
This restaurant is on the outskirts of Chinatown & North Beach -- that is to say, there are plenty of places to go for great grub. Our family, however, chooses to come here for dim sum because - 1) the food is solid! i particularly enjoyed the Gold Sand Egg Yolk Pumpkin and Salted Egg Yolk Black Sesame Balls. Unique and delicious. 2) great service! staff checks in to make sure we have everything we need 3) ambiance -- this isn't your typical dim sum dive. it's nice inside and there's a good area to sit outside as well.

Caelix K.

Yelp
Food came out in poor order. Definitely could use more work in staggering food coming out at the same time. Food was pretty mid, Pork dumplings break much easier in their little cups than others I have experienced, and overall were dry as a bone. Spicy wonton was awful, did not like at all. Green bean dish was good, but was pricey and have had better similar dishes elsewhere for cheaper. The jasmine rice (which came out pretty long after all the other dishes?) was also very dry, and overall was not pleased with the quality. Food takes a while to come out in general (Friday night was pretty dead) Service itself was fine and servers were friendly, although quite poor attentiveness to refilling waters

Yelp
This place serves some truly authentic Chinese food! The dim sum is excellent. The General Tso's chicken and garlic string beans are my favorites--so flavorful. The short ribs were good too. Great spot for a tasty meal! The service is fast and straightforward, dishes arriving quickly. The price is reasonable for the generous portions.
google avatar

Winston L.

Yelp
Went there on a late Sunday afternoon for some dim sum and there was still a good amount of people in the restaurant. My friend and I were seated promptly and we enjoyed the modern and clean decor. We ordered a variety of food from the BBQ Pork buns to Beef Chow Fun and Rice Rolls. I enjoyed the fact that for this type of food it was not too oily. The pork buns had a nice crisp crunch to it and the rice rolls were packed with filling. I definitely will be returning to Osmanthus to try their dinner menu!

Rheall R.

Yelp
We made a reservation but I don't know that was necessary, overall it was busbusy but not full. It did take a server aabout 15min to take our drink oorder which was kind of a while. Good was good but took a little while for out last dish maybe 30-40min from ordering and we had almost thought it was not coming. Would consider going back but since there are so many dim Sum restaurants in the area may opt to try somewhere else neit time.
google avatar

Mel M.

Yelp
Truly an enjoyable restaurant. We ordered a variety of dumplings. Full of flavor! The portions per order is plentiful. Service friendly and helpful when ordering unfamiliar dishes. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor patio seating. Large space to accommodate a single patron to large groups. Open and airy and clean. Highly recommended

Yelp
Delicious dim sum! Spacious, clean, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. End up here craving dim sum and I chose this place to celebrate my new job offer. Took my friends here and my friend end up knowing the chef. Chef came out and gave us a nice Fernet to start off our Friday night!
google avatar

Nina S.

Yelp
Outstanding Chinese dim sum! Don't skip this place on your next SF visit. We got an assortment of dim sum and loved it all. The shrimp dumplings were not too chewy and the vegetarian buns were delicious. We ordered chicken chow mein and it was a HUGE portion! Could have fed a table of four or five easily with leftovers. It was very good, well cooked and seasoned noodles and not overdone. DO NOT SKIP the string beans with XO sauce!! I am still dreaming and craving these a week out. It is crowded and loud inside and if you don't have a reservation you might be in for a long wait. The service is ok but it doesn't matter because the food is fantastic! In a city where Chinese food is on every corner Osmanthus absolutely stands out!
google avatar

Kim D.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast. We ordered pork soup dumplings, pork crispy spring rolls and pan fried pork dumplings. Soup dumplings all busted in their little tins which was disappointing. The pan fried dumplings were a littlr heavy on wrapper and ginger. I liked the crispy spring rolls the best which isn't really typical for me. The premium jasmine tea was very good!

Jena E.

Yelp
The ambiance was more modern for a dim sum place. You order your dishes on paper and they serve it to you rather than carts roaming around. The server was nice and polite. We enjoyed the spicy wontons... I did want a little more spice to it. The soup dumplings came steaming hot and were quite tasty. My husband favorite were the egg rolls. We tried stirring new to us called stinging like puffed pork. It was almost a mochi consistency. I liked it. And I very much enjoyed their har gow with scallops. They were very large!

Yelp
Tried this place out yesterday night and it was less than pleasant. Food was okay, but respectfully the wait time for dishes and lack of attention from waiters soiled the experience. I felt bad as it was evident that the establishment was understaffed, but regardless we had to make a huge effort to flag down waiters to order and ask for updates on dishes we had ordered a long time ago. By the end of our experience, my big sister had to walk over to employees at opposite end of restaurant to ask them a question and despite being warned that the kitchen would be closing down since it was close to closing time our food didn't come out till long after. Also I wanted to mention that the quality of food was different each time as the noodles we ordered were lukewarm and our rice was steaming hot after the longest wait yet! Take this how you will, but regardless my party had a decent time but if it wasn't for our carefree attitude it could've easily been horrible and the worst experience after all I've explained. Nonetheless, expect long waits and having to call after waiters before you come!

Yelp
What a nice find! We were in the area to see a show at the Palace Theater and we wanted a yummy bite before the show started. When around Chinatown, you must get dim sum. Now, it was late enough that the typical whole-in-the-wall placed run single-handedly by someone's grandma were closed so we were a bit wary when trying to find a place, but we found Osmanthus online and stopped in. I was surprised to see the place was fairly empty, but the inside was lovely and the bar was neat to look at. We were seated quickly and made our selections and started off with some drinks. I got the Empress Lychee, which was light and complimented the meal well. My bf got some version of an Old Fashioned that he said was delicious. We ordered spicy pork & shrimp shumai, spinach and mushroom dumpling, steamed bbq pork buns, sesame balls, and I believe it was the house noodle with spicy pork. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and hot! The only downside was the price, which we found to be a bit steep. For our two drinks and 5 plates we paid about $100. But I suppose that is the cross you bear when finding a sit down dim sum place as opposed to a tiny shop elsewhere in Chinatown. Overall, I'd say this was a great experience and we'd happily come back if we are ever in the area again.

Yelp
This is a reliable and convenient restaurant for those of you who likes dim sum with modern decor and some non traditional items. A pretty upscale dim sum restaurant with ambiance that are inviting and tastefully done. We ordered garlic noodles, osmanthus sweet sour chicken, boiled tripe, steamed pork ribs, lotus rice with pork, crab dumplings, pork soup dumplings, pork and chive dumplings, braised chicken feet, marinated short ribs, pork and shrimps shumai, hot and sour soup. All were good except the boiled tripes which was bland. Service was great, I recommend this place.

Yelp
Middle of the road dim sum in a bright and open setting. Forgot photos until mostly done but enjoyed scallop dumpling, shrimp dumpling, rice roll with barbecued pork, and pork spareribs with black bean sauce. Not as upscale or finely tuned as Yank Sing or Harborview, but not a dive either. While not much service required - you fill out your order and they bring it to you - strangely inattentive.

Yelp
Good, not crowded but pricey dim sum place with lots of options on the menu. Can call ahead to make reservations. Fast, friendly service on prime Saturday morning dim sum time. You get a pencil to mark your orders. Stand outs were the eggplant shrimp toast & chicken feet. I liked how crunchy the toast was and the roasted flavor of the eggplant. Chicken feet was yummy and tender, not chewy. Ironically we were hungry and didn't take any food pics but I snapped a pic of the cocktail menu, which stood out to me. Would be down to come back for tea infused cocktails, looks quite interesting.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. I enjoyed the ambiance for a weekend evening with my roommates. We spent a few hours here and I like not feeling rushed to get out of there. Service was grade A

Yelp
On Saturday I came here for lunch with my husband, our baby and a friend of us. I booked few days in advance just to be sure to have a table. The menu is very rich speaking of choices! I don't eat pork, so I chose plates with fish like the shrimp dumplings and the chow mein with seafood. I don't remember what my husband and friends get, but for sure something with pork. They also get the dumpling with shrimps and chives (very good) and the onions toast (just ok for me). The chow mein was a very big portion and I really liked them. Our friends is Asian and she said the food was good, but not perfect (for example the dumpling pasta usually is thinner). For me everything was good, but maybe speaking of dumplings, I preferred other places. The ambience was nice and quiet.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal! SERVICE: fantastic! 5/5. We wanted to watch the Monday Night Football game and they gave us the remote to try to figure out, we couldn't. Then like 10 minutes later, the bartender switched it to the correct channel within seconds. Wish we'd had known that from the get go but the fact that they had the Packers game playing made my heart warm DRINK: the green one, forgot what it was called. It was okay. Maybe 3.5/5 FOOD 1. Garlic noodles: BEST THING WE HAD. 8/5 2. pork soup dumplings: tasty 3. Salmon fried rice: too peppery for me but my mother loved it. That'd be a 3.8/5 for me 4. Fried short ribs: a bit salty and wish it had a dipping sauce, but otherwise yummy. 4.2/5 5. (Boiled?) short ribs: thought these would be pan fried at least and not boiled, still flavorful so I'd give it 3.5/5 6. Pork pot stickers: 4.5/5, loved these Overall great experience and would make the trek back 100% especially for the garlic noodles. Also there's SO MUCH we didn't try so would love to. Portions were huge by the way so keep that in mind

Yelp
I want to start with saying I would rate this place 3.5 stars. We had expected a bit more from Osmanthus from the reviews we read. The food was good but not great although we did have a couple dishes we really liked. I almost always order pea shoots wherever I can get them and they were good but a bit light on the saltiness but the whole clove of gargling were sweet and complimented the shoots nicely. Another highlight was the spicy wontons no skimping on the chilies here. We also enjoyed the house special stir fried noodles(Hong Kong style) crispy noodles with ample amount of vegetables, chicken, shrimp, and bbq pork. The let downs were the soy mai, salt and pepper calimari and the congee. The siu mai were a bit bland and we prefer a finer grind of the filling, the salt and pepper calimari seemed to have sat a while before we got it and was barely warm and had gotten soft. The congee was was incredibly bland no flavor from anything no salt no nothing. It literally tasted like rice boiled in water. So were split 50/50 on the dishes we ordered. We also asked for the soy/chili oil caddy and it only had sambal instead of chili oil so we used the oil from the wontons to dip our siu mai in. Maybe we just didn't order the right dishes but it seemed a little lackluster overall. The service was ok but it take a while get our first and second dishes before the rest started coming out more timely. I would try this place again and try some othe menu items if I was in the area but I'm not going out of my way to go back.

Yelp
Solid dim sum spot! Everything we tried here was pretty good. Nothing was groundbreaking or super memorable (besides the salted egg yolk buns! those were amazing) but it's a solid choice for dim sum if you're looking for that. We went around noon on a weekend and were able to get seated immediately. There's a ton of seating inside and outside. Inside ambiance is pretty clean and airy. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including shumai, congee and chinese donuts (youtiao), soup dumplings, steamed bbq pork buns, and the steamed egg yolk buns. The soup dumplings weren't great but I'd recommend everything else. Especially the steamed egg yolk buns -- super fluffy and creamy filling! And not very sweet either, so if you prefer them not super sugary then these are perfect for you. Prices are very reasonable and when split across a big group, it's even more affordable!

Yelp
Delicious variety for dim sum here. I enjoyed the XO radish cake dish the most, but the shrimp and pork shu mai and other dishes were also good. This is a made to order dim sum place. No carting around. Interior is pretty big with many tables. There is also a large selection of teas as well. Service was mediocre but that's usually the norm with dim sum places.

Yelp
Osmanthus is the best. I rediscovered* it during the pandemic, primarily because it had a charming outdoor seating area, but it's become my regular spot for dim sum in SF. The staff is warm and professional, the dishes are delicious, the full bar is a nice perk, and the prices are really fair. Most of their classic dumplings are solid, but my weak spot is for their zong zi and their salted yolk sesame balls (daytime only for the latter). I've often ended up here with a large crew of friends (sometimes with reservations, sometimes not), and Osmanthus always manages to seat us quickly and take great care of us. *It's not that old but I used to go here years ago when it was Enrico's jazz bar: happy to say that Osmanthus still reflects the bohemian vibrance of SF (since I always end up there with artists and writers), just in a different way.

Yelp
Second visit here. Same great food. The mound of garlic noodles was addicting. The egg rolls come four to an order. I wished we had gotten two. We had to leave room for the spicy coconut broth fish with eggplant and string beans because we LOVE it. Herman is still in charge and that's a good thing.
