The Best Restaurants in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama | Eater New Orleans

"OSO is situated off the beaten path in the Orange Beach community of Bear Point Harbor, and the drive down the island it requires makes for a bit of an adventure. Come here to catch live music and have drinks in a laid-back, fun atmosphere on the water. On the extensive menu, your best bets will be the simpler options like peel-and-eat shrimp, tacos, the blackened fish burrito, and fried grouper sandwich." - Clair Lorell

Definitely one of the better restaurants that we’ve been to. We had grilled snapper as well as blackened grouper and black and shrimp. Also the bang bang shrimp. The Asian slow coleslaw was fantastic. Hush puppies were spot on. The service was top-notch. The restaurant is super cute. Lots of little chickens running around outside. The kid really loved being able to put the bear and sit out outside with the bear in the skeleton. It’s on the water the boats. The food was excellent and I will definitely be back. Price is definitely not as expensive as the other waterfront properties. Can’t wait to come back next year PS the baguettes… Donut holes with dips was the absolute best I’ve ever had. They were very light, crunchy and flaky. Not like a deep-fried, thick donut, but nice and light and flaky. The two alcoholic drinks were awesome and very well made

Google
I recently took a girls trip to Orange Beach and we tried OSO at Bear Point. We sat outside and the view was amazing. We watched as boats came in and had a beautiful sunset. We shared fried pickles as an app, which were good. I had the bang bang shrimp bowl which was amazing. Everyone in my party raved about their entrees. We will definitely be back. The live music was great, as well. Highly recommend.

This was an absolutely wonderful dining experience! We had a server, Ricardo, who had one of the friendliest and kindest smiles in all of south Alabama. His service was top tier and should be the standard of measure. The food was phenomenal. It came out hot and fresh and very quick to the table from the time of order. We had the blackened chicken tots, and the shrimp and crawfish nachos, and the grouper nuggets. The food was the best we've had all week! The grouper was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it if you like fish! Their Bushwackers are as good as any that we've tried. This is by far one of the best spots in the Gulf Shores/ Orange Beach area.

1. Service was good And server was very sweet. 2. Atmosphere was good. Would have loved to have live music piped to where we was sitting and not him singing and the box music at the same time. 3. Love the layout 4. Food was amazing and so fresh and delicious. The grilled pineapple margarita was so good that spice hits hard at the beginning wow so good. 5. Glad we saw a friend post on Facebook always looking for new places we never been. Oh the tuna was cooked to perfection

Google
Loved this place. Great food, you can tell that the chef loves his/her job. The food really tastes good and looks good. We listened to a band afterward at the bar area, and it was a good time! Will always go back when I'm visiting Gulf Shores/Orange Beach!

Google
Came down to Oso on Bear Point today. Cool-laid back local vibe. Island time for sure. With great service. Has Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 2-6pm. $1.50 Busch Lights and cocktails. Bartenders are very friendly and attentive. They also have live music every night after 6pm. Outside. Inside-outside seating, patio seating outside inside, upstairs seating. This place is huge! Probably the coolest menu I’ve seen on the island yet! Menu is decently priced with awesome specials. Chef Ashton came out and welcomed me in personally today. What a pleasure!

Google
Great laid back vibe! Local feel! Food was some of the best we had all weekend! Definitely stop by! 10 stars for the atmosphere & live music

Google
We enjoyed our meals outside with a great water view. Our table had the swamp burrito which was jammed full of seafood and a fiesta salad. We were happy with both of our choices. The restaurant was busy, but we still had attentive service.

Yelp
Food and staffing was great! had food before going on our dolphin excursion. Fish tacos are great and chips and salsa. shrimp was fresh with a great atmosphere.

Yelp
The best thing about this place is the location. Super nice for a sunset right on the water! Food isnt bad but didn't blow me away. Live music is nice but service is extremely slow- waiter was prob overloaded but took a while for him to come check on us. Random but the air conditioner leaks near the restroom leading to funky mildewy 'bar tar' smells reminiscent of college bars.

Yelp
Back to a 4 based on outdoor bar, music and bartenders for cocktails. Right on the water and always a good time here.

Yelp
From breakfast to lunch, we have never been unhappy. Excellent service and exceptional food. Whenever we got to Orange Beach, this is one stop we make for sure!

Kirk S.

Yelp
Not only was the service absolutely horrible. But the food was even worse. After waiting 40 minutes My spicy chicken sandwich was engulfed in grease and completely soaked the bun with grease causing the sandwich to disintegrate in my hands. The chicken was cooked in at least week old grease. The sad part is that they had no interest in correcting anything. I will go elsewhere from now on.

Yelp
We had the grouper bites & fried dill pickles...both great appetizer choices. The bushwacker was mighty fine too!

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Kristine was amazing! hook and cook on Matthew's first fish was a treat! thanks for the hospitality it was amazing yum

Yelp
We arrived to OSO on this beautiful day by boat with a group of friends. My husband and I enjoyed the game day special of 2 sausage dogs with fries. This entree was enough to share. The sausage was cooked in boiled peanut water which sounded quite tasty and it was delicious. Perfectly spicy with grilled onions and bell peppers. We all enjoyed dining on their covered deck overlooking the harbor.

Yelp
The views are awesome and it's off the beaten path. We thought that the service was good and the food was great! We loved the nachos and it was a huge amount of food. The Gumbo was delicious! I had the blackened grouper sandwich and it was over cooked and dry but the tarter was homemade and very good. We will come back next year.

Yelp
The ambiance was good, food was ok. We got fish tacos (good), fish burrito (good but it was def missing something to make it have flavor), chicken & shrimp pasta (soooo thick), kids burger & tots, kids chicken fingers & fries (both too spicy for my child).

Jen B.

Yelp
HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS are NO LONGER! We went to try some apps after looking the place up online and they are no longer being offered. Asked server and he said they don't do that any longer. I showed him my phone and instead of trying to provide some good service and honor them he said"yeah, they should take those down off of the website". Food was good . But def not a happy hour place. Shame because it's a cute location on the water and they have afternoon entertainment. Wasn't busy. Could be busier if they had better afternoon offerings!

Yelp
Our first visit to this establishment. What can I say but, Outstanding! We were referred here by friends of ours. Service, food and drinks were outstanding. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best stop of the day...Brook, your were the best. The Painkiller and Bushwackers were the best of the day. Thanks dear.. this is a great place to watch the water craft..and sunset.

Yelp
I'm sorry to say I was expecting a lot nicer place. We have friends who have raved about this place, but I can't agree. My wife ordered the fish of the day, blackened Red Snapper, and it tasted like rubber! She sent it back after the waitress agreed that it looked over cooked, and the second piece came out the same way! I ordered the "Low Country" which said a "pound of shrimp with potatoes and sausage", what they missed was the whole plate was spicy and a heavy Cajun flavor, which I just can't do anymore . We were both hesitant about complaining, but when the bill hcame and they charged 50 cents for my wife's hot water, that was the straw that broke the camels back! I got ice water, there was no charge, why 50 cents to pour hot water into a cup! Sadly, we will not return to this establishment.

Yelp
Love the fabulous food, the servers are nice & checking regularly to help with your requests. Outside is such fun! I am always happy with the food. Go! Enjoy!
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
OSO was just oh so okay!! The salad was decent. I could've used less cheese and more dressing! The vegetables were fresh though and nothing was wilted. The loaded tots were different... topped with corn and black beans with less "sauce..." The chips and dips were just okay and the bushwacker was all alcohol! But the view is worth the visit!!
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
The food was good, the service was good and the ambience was exceptional. Would recommend this place to anyone. I like the outside bar and live music.
google avatar

Betsy B.

Yelp
I've been going to Orange Beach for years and have my standing favorites and OSO will be added to the rotation for sure!! Go at sunset to see an amazing view and enjoy some fun music along the way. The menu has a great selection of seafood and other options. The food is very flavorful and has a great selection of grilled and fried fish. A definite must-go!

Yelp
TL;DR - Skip it. Really. There is a long list of restaurants that are much better than this. For those who want more details.. Our order was: 1 calamari- first time ever we've left calamari on the plate. Super chewy. Overcooked. 1 - cheese quesadilla. Kid 1 ate it without any complaints. 1 - beef taco. Kid 2 ate it without any complaints. 3 - fish taco plates. "I'd have rather ordered a fish plate from Captain D's." I really can't say anything positive about it. The queso and chips it came with were ok, I guess? 1 - fried shrimp tacos - "At least they're better than the fish..." Which wasn't saying much. Writing this review makes me even more irritated. LOL We are here in our last night and made a huge mistake. If this were an Amazon purchase, I'd be sending it back. Our waiter was Moonshine and he was great. Super friendly and all that. A little inattentive - we never got any refills - but he was running the bar as well, so I can understand that.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery and a hidden gem. Enjoyed my time there and will definitely be back

Yelp
Let me start by saying this place is beautiful! You can sit outside, right on the bay. We caught a beautiful sunset when we were there for our last night of vacation. The food was just okay. I got the combination platter and everything was fried (as advertised). Maybe I just don't really like fried food... or maybe their food was just average. Either way, I wasn't impressed with the food and the service was pretty slow.

Yelp
OSO is a great hangout all around. Great food, music, views and people. We love to pull up in our boat, fuel up, eat up, and then go fishing.

Yelp
Great breakfast. Not worth 24$. Was well overcharged for milk. Nice atmosphere though. Decent service.

Yelp
The food was great, the atmosphere was fun, the people were so nice. One of our favorite places to eat!

Yelp
My first visit here was for a pop-up date night but the indoor restaurant was closed due to the devastating Sally fury. We ate good off an outdoor grill & enjoyed Red & the Revelers, it was a nice night out. l've always heard good things about this place so anxious to come back for the full experience at the locally owned and operated establishment. This is a relatively new restaurant but then there was Covid, then Sally so it's been a tough road. It's at Bear Point (Oso is Spanish for bear, cute play) with waterfront views of the marina and a adjoining outdoor bar and entertainment area. They are fully functional now with a pleasant a vibrant staff and it's a very nice dining experience inside and out. The menu isn't huge but they do serve fresh local seafood with varying off-menu specials. The seafood can be ordered seared, blackened or fried an currently features shrimp, grouper, snapper, crawfish, tuna, crab and oysters. There's platters, Po' Boys, tacos, salad, and quesadillas for the seafood and some chicken, pork and steak options as well. You can also get bowls, nachos, burgers, calamari and wings too. There's a full bar with specialty drinks and a modest wine list. We were greeted and promptly seated and our server Alexis was very friendly and took great care of us throughout our meal. My honey went with the blackened snapper special and I opted for the fried grouper. Her snapper with fries a d slaw were very good and my grouper was spot on. Big filet that was perfectly seasoned and cooked with outstanding fries a s southwest slaw. The hushpuppies were disappointing because they were bland and overcooked but everything else was very good. The interior is very comfy and the outdoor seating is fantastic with fans and misters everywhere and the view is outstanding. Just outside there's a separate bar with lots of outdoor seating and nice size stage. This is also a nice spot to catch a small sunset! Bottom line: We thoroughly enjoyed our experiences here and will be back. Recommended Note: They opened a sister Restaurant OSO Early (formerly Barefoot Island Grill) just down the road in OB. It's a breakfast/brunch/coffees/fresh squeezed OJ & bloody Mary kinda place, review forthcoming. https://www.facebook.com/osoearly/ #osogood

Yelp
Really cool place. The staff was friendly. Loved the Grateful Dead inspired uniforms. Got some Christmas shopping done. Food was really good. Fun being in the water and watching the boats coming in and out.

D W.

Yelp
Staff was very rude and disrespectful, waited more than twenty minutes when the place was dead. Outside smells horrible
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Well, the place was crowded when we arrived but we were told the wait would be 30 minutes. I was extremely doubtful but sure enough almost exactly 30 minutes later we received a text that our table was ready. Excited, we headed to our table but that's where the real waiting began. Another 30 minutes later, after flagging down a server, we were finally acknowledged. Since we had so much time to peruse the menu, we went ahead and ordered drinks and food. Well, another 45 minutes later we still had no food and empty drinks. I'll update this review after we eat, assuming the food comes eventually. Update: The table next to us was seated at the exact same time as us and they have already eaten, got Togo boxes and just got their check. Another update: Food finally arrived 1 1/2 hours after we were seated. Looks good and tastes good but not even close to worth the wait. Final update: I'm not one who wants my meal paid for or discounted when things go sideways but what I would have appreciated would have been a visit from the manager. The server knew things weren't handled right and I don't believe it was technically her fault so she should have made the manager aware of the situation. To make matters worse, the bathrooms were filthy. No soap, no paper towels, bloody tampon and dirty (poopie) diaper just on the floor of the bathroom because the trash cans were full. It was nasty.

Debra B.

Yelp
Always have a great time here. Food is great. I had one of the bowls, nice and fresh. We used the outside bar area and found the staff, Moonshine and Rum, to be exceptionally nice and entertaining.
google avatar

Caitlyn B.

Yelp
This place gets all the points for the atmosphere and location, perfect for a sunset dinner. You can even see dolphins swimming through the channels from the deck. The service was very polite and checked in on us multiple times. The chicken sandwich was 10/10, and the alfredo and burger were decent.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Sat by the boat dock and listened to a band. The nachos were a feast for the whole table.
google avatar

Debbie A.

Yelp
Service great! Covered patio for a rainy ish night. Coconut mojito was delicious! Fish tacos were really good! A little spicy but we were all very happy with our selections.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
This is a community bar in the midst of a neighborhood The gumbo is very good and the fried shrimp is good

Sherrille G.

Yelp
It was a fairly busy evening midweek, so they opened the upstairs room for our party of 6 and for a few other patrons. First of all, It was hot. They apparently turned on the air when they realized they were going to need the tables; and, they pulled a downstairs server to work both areas...up and down. The bartender messed up a three signature drinks and never got it right. All of this before we ordered food. The food was OK, not great. As with everything right now, it was overpriced for the quality. Our server was great! She handled her situation with grace and style. Atmosphere outside was fun. It was just too hot to enjoy. I'll give them another try on the next visit, because everyone has a bad night sometimes. But they only get one chance to redeem themselves.
google avatar

Angel B.

Yelp
Amazing food, music and staff. The best sunsets on the island. Don't forget to order the bushwhacker.

Yelp
Loved this spot! The seating was immediate on a Thursday- we called beforehand to check busy times and the hostess was very nice and assured us they'd make room for us. Our waitress Sarah was so attentive and nice!! We were a table of 13 and she was on top of everything before we even had to ask. The menu here has lots of options for the whole fam- vegetarians included! All of our food came out perfectly within 10-20 minutes after ordering. We've eaten at several restaurants in Orange Beach since being here this week and this was by far the best for all the reasons mentioned. :)

Debra B.

Yelp
Great food and very friendly waitress with fabulous service!!! Our waitress, Teegan, even gave us other food recommendations in the area for us to try out on our trip. Definitely a must if you are in the area!

Kelly F.

Yelp
We were planning on eating at Oso Early but found out that it closed so we went to Oso at Bear Point Harbor. It was nothing like Oso Early. It was a depressing buffet and none of the food was hot. I'm never going back
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Fun spot for some eats and drinks. They have lots of cocktails and beer. Food is average Beach fare but with a Mexican twist - lots of chips and salsa type things. Fish tacos are just ok. Pepper wrap with blackened shrimp was good. The tuna bowl was very good. Everything was a little predictable. The burger, however, was great! They've got live music frequently, which is sometimes good and sometimes not!

Marvin M.

Yelp
Excellent service and a delicious seafood selection, I recommend trying OSO, which offers a variety of oysters and multiple seafood platters. OSO has an attentive and friendly staff who provide top-notch service. The water view and sunsets enhance the dining experience.

Nick S.

Yelp
Waitress did a very poor job. She took our order then never returned to check on us. I had to ask another waitress to go find her so we could get our bill. We had a large party with 3 couples. Each couple paid for their food. However, she didn't bother to tell any of us that she included 18% gratuity on the bill. It was conveniently not brought up. We all tipped her generously despite the poor service. We didn't realize until after we left about the 18% gratuity already being factored into the bill. Food was just average at best. Not terrible but definitely nothing special. Overall the poor service and lack of transparency on the gratuity left us with a bad taste. I definitely wouldn't recommend this establishment.

Eric M.

Yelp
Good luck getting drinks here, much less ordering food. We have just been sitting at our table with the staff ignoring us for ten minutes or so.

Deb B.

Yelp
This place is worth going to! Our server Alex was amazing!!!!! A band was playing while we were here and they were great. Try the grouper sandwich or shrimp po boy. You will not walk away hungry! As far as beverages, try the bushwhacker or pineapple margarita. You will not be disappointed. We will definitely be back again. The wait was not long at all for a holiday weekend.

Villarusso R.

Yelp
Just got lunch to go. The worst shrimp platter i have ever had. Food service shrimp, hushpuppies, and fries. Nothing was fried through. Everything soft and undercooked. I sure miss Flippers. They used real gulf shrimp. Made their hushpuppies. And cooked everything perfect. They even made their own ice cream for bushwackers. Won't recommend or ever go back. I expected way better for the price. I'll stick with Doc's I guess.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
Always good place to go to. Have not been having great meals this week so glad to come to a place that is good! Same as last time we came, great drinks and food.
google avatar

John Paul S.

Yelp
Everyone raves about this place but my food was alright. I got the seafood platter. All fried and nothing to write home about. Service and craft beer selection was good.
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Overall a good dining experience. Great ambience, friendly staff, good service, tasty food. I plan to visit again when we're back in Orange Beach.

Lynnley M.

Yelp
TUNA bowl is so yum!!! Quick, easy, friendly service. Great view on the water and amazing crew! Plus delicious food! Could not recommend this place more!

Paula M.

Yelp
Love love love OSO ! The sunsets are the best !!! The food , atmosphere and live music is always great !

Yelp
This is a great spot that you can make into whatever you want. For us, it was a family of 3 that wanted to play bingo with the locals and listen to cover bands by the pier...for others it was indoor seating and family friendly...still more, many people pulled up in their boats and ate and drank right from their boats...the food was VERY impressive for being a little more grungy outside...and for the price...we had a BBQ bowl that was fantastic...walked right up to the bar and ordered it...a great place to spend the night...lots of good photo spots too with the pier and boats in the background...and the GIANT OSO bear outfront!
