I travel the world for a living and eat at many high end restaurants in different countries every year. I can positively say that nobody here gives a damn about their guests. The level of customer service my family and i experienced at this restaurant last night was absolutely shocking and left us feeling offended and frustrated for the rest of our evening.
Starting from the food, the fish crudité and fish gratinati was absolutely delicious and so was the shrimp and champagne risotto, tasty and cooked to perfection. The location is also stunning and the sparkling house white was nice and reasonably priced.
We were however very disappointed by the fritto misto, which for Italian standards was extremely poor both in terms of ingredients and of quality, looking and tasting reheated instead of cooked fresh. But I’m just an ex chef so what would I know…
On arrival we found out that the table we reserved had been given to someone else which obviously didn’t set us to a good start, although we tried to be understanding of the waiter who made the mistake and thanked him for sorting us out with another table anyway.
As soon as we sat down we order water and asked for a slice of lemon for our glass, which didn’t arrive until we asked the third time, by which point we had already finished our starters. No apologies by the waiter, just colleagues blaming.
The way we were served the main courses was absolutely ridiculous. We made clear to the waiter that we wanted to share the risotto as a first course and then have the fritto misto as a second course but staff had other plans for us and decided that we were going to have it all at once. Not only did they not apologise for they mistake but they didn’t even bring us any cutlery until we had to ask for it whenever we managed to get a waiter’s attention. Once again, no apologies but colleagues blaming.
By the time we were 3/4 of the way through our dinner my plate was taken away from me even though I wasn’t done eating by a waiter who clearly couldn’t wait to go home. I didn’t say anything because I was actually full enough and found it funny, but when the same waiter tried to take away all the other plates including the dish with the last bits of fritto misto, my dad had to stop him and point out that everyone was still eating. Once again, no apologies.
Finally when we asked for the bill one of the waitresses hastily told us to go pay inside, to which I kindly replied that we would have liked to get the bill at the table first instead. She had the cheek to roll her eyes at me before going to get the bill for us.
We weren’t thanked for our visit, we weren’t offered anything after dinner even though every other table was offered an amaro or a sorbetto to complement their dinner and unfortunately, once again we weren’t given any apologies for the messy service we had to endure all night.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody who has a dignity and cares about making their money count.
