Yelp
I found Osteria Alla Pasina as a Bib gourmand listing, and it was on our way out from Venice to Treviso. It's located in a small countryside hotel where pretty much no one speaks English, which is amazing and just what we wanted. Everything in Venice is overrun with tourists, and it was so refreshing and authentic feeling to be at a place where the menu was only in Italian, and the server only spoke Italian. Reservations are online, but it wasn't very busy during a weekday lunch in October.
Parking is easy on the property.
They had a 4 course menu option, but we weren't that hungry, so we went a la carte for lunch.
Wines by the glass are around €5 for local choices - we both liked the reds we chose.
Food:
- Il nostro tris: local cuttlefish cooked in a tomato sauce on polenta, shrimp with pickled onions, and local salt cod - a nice sampling of local starters
- Papparadelle de autunno: with mushrooms and garlic. Rich and buttery, great for call
- Tortelli gustosi: filled with taleggio and fig, in a sage and brown butter sauce, excellent with extra parmigiano
- Strattecci alla Pasina: an 80 year old veal and beef recipe of thinly sliced and cooked meat with cheese and fresh black truffle plus white truffle oil
The dishes were simple but flavorful, and the rainy afternoon in the country side was just on point for the fall in Italy. Again, I love when we stumble upon a place where there aren't any tourists, and nothing is catered to Americans. To me, these are the true travel gems.
