Osteria Bakare is a beautiful hidden gem, with amazing regional food and perfect service. It might not look like much from the outside, but a magical space of simple quiet elegance surrounds you when inside, created by seamless efficient service, an excellent wine list curated with taste and unique insights, and quiet peaceful comfort. Chef Elisa was at our table side, and almost everyone else’s as much as she was in the kitchen, serous but smiling and with attention to meticulous details. The simple dishes each had beautiful and complex ingredients that brought out amazing flavors, such as her famous barbecued mango addition to the risotto, and dried combava citrus in the delicious lemon scented spaghetti , and yuzu, shiso, and dashi asian flares. Her recreation of the old school Vitello tonatto “in evoluzione” was a wonderful example of her magical rethinking of the traditional presentation, smartly keeping the old and improbable dish but elevating it and honoring the unique combination. We loved the champagne and caviar list and enjoy starting a meal with those beautiful effervescent bubbles, and our wine guide recommended a unique new small maison we had not tried. Our amazing waitress Cristina, a good and loyal friend to the Chef, was part of the female team there, and has been a strong pillar in the six months old restaurant. But they worked together before at a Michelin starred regional restaurant in the beautiful hills close by for many years. Thank you Elisa and Cristina for making our evening of celebration for my husband and my college bound daughter so special. We will spread the word and be back again, as we are sure this chef and this restaurant will have many many successful years ahead. Standing still in place while running ahead, a true labor of passion.
