Osteria Bartolini

"This young, attractive and friendly restaurant brings the maritime influences of Romagna to Bologna, upholding its traditions of fresh fish dishes which are simple yet full of flavour. “Fritto misto” (fried fish) is still the house speciality, although other classic fish and seafood dishes also feature on the menu. In fine weather, enjoy your meal in the shade of a huge century-old plane tree." - Michelin Inspector

Without the tree, it would be a nice restaurant. With the 200 year old Plataan it is has an amazing atmosphere. Nothing more special about it? Well, the food was good, very well made seafood. I think you can order everything there and not be disappointed. The white wine was well presented and kept cold at the table. The water was a bit too warm and the pieces of bread at the beginning should have been thrown to the pigeons. They were cut way too long before. The whole bread experience in every restaurant was a disappointment. Not just here. No olive oil, salt or nice butter anywhere. The staff was doing well, except one grumpy guy we ho should look for a different career.

Good place if you need to eat salt-free and spice-free food. Our fried fish dishes lacked flavor, but they felt healthy. The staff were super friendly, though.

What a great place! We loved the fresh seafood platter on the dish of the day menu. The fish was so fresh you could taste the mild sweetness from the flesh, doesn’t need any salt or condiment. As for the main course, we got pasta and risotto, both are beautifully flavored with deep umami from the sea. The only regret was that because it rained in the afternoon, we couldn’t sit in garden and the garden looked elegant and chill. Thank you for a lovely evening!

It‘s a very nice restaurant with really good seafood. The terrace looks very nice but it was too cold to have dinner out there. Probably a must-do in Summer. The sardines in oil with lemon were amazing. Fried calamaries and artichokes as well but the sardines were 11/10. The atmosphere is quite nice, the service good and attentive. We also had a very nice orange wine from the region.

The food is fabulous - the squid appetizer with shrimp was as fresh and as tender as it comes !!! I then tried the sole filets , woooowwww !!! Tender , fresh , perfectly seasoned with a hint of lemon and the puree alongside was the perfect compliment! I’m drinking a Pinot noir instead of one of their amazing and extensive white wine choices , but that’s cos I love my reds and this one is Italian produced by Franz Haas and has complimented the food extremely well. Taking a break before desert …. Love the food , one small tip to the restaurant, the reservation system to book a table is quite complicated and not straight forward , varying between no phone call , you can what’s app and you can email , but if you don’t speak or read Italian, it can be irksome …

Famous for seafood tempura, but we did not enjoy it too much, cause no side dish for balancing was added, nor the seafood was properly cleaned. Anchovies was delicious, very simply cooked in lemon water. The desserts were the best !!!

Atmosphere under the gorgeous tree and food to match on a very hot summer night. Good service. Sardines were amazing!

I have seen better places, and this one did not meet my expectations. The service was quite slow, and the food we waited for a long time arrived cold and tasteless. Additionally, having to go to the counter to pay the bill was odd and inconvenient. Overall, I was not satisfied.

Yelp
Not sure why the reviews here are average. The food was very tasty, price was spot on 50 euro for two people with one drink each, ambiance was amazing. Loved this meal. The service was very straight and to the point. So maybe people here want more friendliness. I thought they did their job. Recommend by the Michelin bib gourmand

Yelp
We were very excited to procure a reservation for New Year's Eve at Osteria Bartolini, awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand; a restaurant providing excellent dining at a reasonable price. Certainly, the stylish, villa like entrance exceeded all expectations. The interior is bright and airy, with high ceilings and casual place settings. Expectations must be lowered when having a holiday set menu. The kitchen is preparing dinner for a mass implosion of diners. Culinary artistry is most often shoved aside for expediency. Osteria Bartolini was no exception on this New Year's Eve 2020. The food was a bit bland and disappointing. However, the wonderful nature and kind disposition of the servers, greeters, and kitchen staff made the evening very enjoyable. The staff was marvelous. When I strolled into the kitchen to give the kitchen workers a tip, their smiles lit up the room. My favorite dish of the evening was the first, Crustacean soup. The weirdest dish of the evening was cold shellfish served in styrofoam. The seafood was tasteless, as was the styrofoam. However, for 80 Euros per person, including a lousy bottle of white wine and an inexpensive bottle of bubbly, it was a good deal. Most places were charging 150 Euros per person. It was fun, and that's all I ask for New Year's Eve.

Yelp
For a restaurant with years of experience, coming out of a pandemic, and desperate, as all restaurants are, for a return to normalcy, they are approaching this problem strangely. The food, most importantly, is not bad, especially the warm octopus salad. I think the ambiance might have been interesting, but no indoor seating allowed, so I'm not really sure. The service, however, may need some work. A few more experienced severs excepted, there appeared to be no oversight of the lower skill level servers. Their lack of attention - not just to detail, but in general - was disturbing to both the locals and tourists sitting around me on the outdoor patio area. Lots of little mistakes can become overwhelming. Even something as simple as apologizing for at least one small mistakes goes a long way. The service was not bad enough to make me walk out. It just needs a bit of work before I return. 2021 09 13. M0.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants of Bologna. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. Lunch was delicious. Will definitely comeback and try dinner menu.

Yelp

Yelp
Beautiful setting and wonderful food. We went for dinner on recommendation from our tour guide from a food tour (and the food was great so we knew we wouldn't be led astray). Ambiance and that giant tree is gorgeous. There were so many dishes I wanted to try but I ended up with the fried seafood and boy did I make the right choice. So many different seafood items and fried veg! I took the strategy to eat all the "prime" pieces, but there were so many I ended up eating so much more than I meant to. Salad was very fresh as well and we had a very enjoyable dinner. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This restaurant has an outdoor seating area high above the street under an huge, ancient tree and a rather plain interior seating area. While it was lovely to sit outside (whatever they built the platform of, it wiggled and our table wiggled with it every time someone walked past), our meal was a mixed bag. The server was very nice and attentive and we ordered a lovely bottle of organic white wine from Emilia. The starter of fried sardines with cherry tomatoes and caper was lovely. The salad was a surprise - very fresh and with the usual tomatoes, carrot strips, radish, and sprouts - but we got a few slices of a sweet apple and 2 pickled cherries, which really brightened it up and put this salad over the top. Of course, the olive oil and vinegar of Modena they brought to the table to dress it was superb. Unfortunately, my order of fried seafood (no shells) was underseasoned and overcooked. Even the addition of salt didn't help. The vegetables were tasteless, the shrimp rubbery. After having had a fritto misto (no seafood) at La Traviata, I was expecting the vegetables to be superlative. Alas, no. My husband order the tagliolini al ragu bianco and enjoyed that, although it was too fishy for my taste and was dominated by long pieces of octopus. Great salad, nice sardines, but the rest we could have given a pass.
