This restaurant has an outdoor seating area high above the street under an huge, ancient tree and a rather plain interior seating area. While it was lovely to sit outside (whatever they built the platform of, it wiggled and our table wiggled with it every time someone walked past), our meal was a mixed bag. The server was very nice and attentive and we ordered a lovely bottle of organic white wine from Emilia. The starter of fried sardines with cherry tomatoes and caper was lovely. The salad was a surprise - very fresh and with the usual tomatoes, carrot strips, radish, and sprouts - but we got a few slices of a sweet apple and 2 pickled cherries, which really brightened it up and put this salad over the top. Of course, the olive oil and vinegar of Modena they brought to the table to dress it was superb.
Unfortunately, my order of fried seafood (no shells) was underseasoned and overcooked. Even the addition of salt didn't help. The vegetables were tasteless, the shrimp rubbery. After having had a fritto misto (no seafood) at La Traviata, I was expecting the vegetables to be superlative. Alas, no.
My husband order the tagliolini al ragu bianco and enjoyed that, although it was too fishy for my taste and was dominated by long pieces of octopus.
Great salad, nice sardines, but the rest we could have given a pass.
