1) Hotel concierge tried book 7:30pm as we requested and was told only available time was 6:30pm or earlier. So we booked 6:30pm counter seats. This was confirmed from their side and we agreed to the cancellation policy of ¥5500 per person.
In the end we were the only table for the whole night, except for 1 lady who arrived 30min after us. Seems they only want early bookings so they can finish early, rather than limited availability. Very sad, but very telling, to see a restaurant so empty on a Saturday night in the heart of Ginza.
2) When we arrived the waiter pointed to the back corner of the restaurant. When we showed him the reservation had specified “counter seating” he grunted “no” and shooed us once again to the back of the restaurant. Normally I would turn and leave at this point, however I was not willing to pay the ¥11,000 cancellation fee, so reluctantly I agreed.
3) Food. Started with the Carpaccio of horse meat, overall very elementary and forgettable. Squid was really chewy, undercooked and under seasoned. Pasta were ok, nothing “wrong” but nothing overly impressive, just better than the starters.
4) Aside from us and 1 other lady, the restaurant was empty. Yet the waiter left all dirty plates and cutlery strewn around the dining room and showed little care of interest in being there.
Overall the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant in Japan.
If you want Italian food in Tokyo i recommend you try: “Pizza Marumo” or “La Bisboccia”.
