Yelp
I saw that a Yelp friend reviewed this new eatery, and we thought why not give it a try - very glad we did.
Being a warm day, all the glass windows/doors were open as we approached this recently opened attractive eatery. Upon arriving, we were approached by the hostess, Hewan. With a warm and inviting smile, she inquired whether we wanted to be seated inside the bright, modern interior, or out on the large patio. Her warm and inviting personality welcomed us to sit and relax, and hinted at the pleasant dining experience to come.
We ventured into Osteria del Fornaio during their Happy Hour (everyday between 3-6PM) when they offer special prices on select beer, wine, cocktails, antipasti and pizza. Our waitress, Fiona, had an upbeat personality and fully communicated about their Happy Hour specials as well as a few other dining favorites. After placing our order, she inquired whether we would like to stage the courses or have them served together. We prefer to stage offerings as some foods tend to cool off quicker than others. She kept a watchful eye on our progress yet did not continually interupt us as some servers do in other restaurants.
First up, we enjoyed the Tartara di Tonno, which consists of Ahi tuna, avocado, micro arugula, mustard seeds, and spring onions mixed with a white balsamic sauce, along with crostini. Everything was quite fresh, and the flavors combined beautifully.
Their Machheroni Tartufati consists of chocolate pasta in a sharp white cheddar cream sauce with truffle oil and topped with toasted breadcrumbs. The flavors combined very well.
Before our pizza selections arrived, we munched on the Sfincione and enjoyed this style of Sicilian "pizza". True to the old Italian version, the name loosely translates to "thick sponge", the dough was indeed spongy. It had a softer crust layer that had more in common with Focaccia bread than the standard New York-style pizza. Thus, a crusted Silician Focaccia. Nice!
After cruising through the vasetti and antipasti, our housemade-dough pizzas arrived piping hot; we were ready to devour them as the aroma was intoxicating.
There was just enough room (barely!) to have a dessert, so we shared their Bomboloni. The warm sugar-coated confections were a delicious joy to dip in the accompanying Nutella hazelnut and their marvelous version of a creamy Marsala sauces. A sweet ending to a delicious meal!
Osteria del Fornaio is an excellent place for a relaxing lunch, dinner or during their Happy Hour.
Will we return? Absolutely.
