The 11 Best Restaurants & Bars At The South Street Seaport - New York - The Infatuation

"Osteria Del Porto is like a lot of rustic, charming spots in the city. The only thing missing is a fireplace. It's a perfect spot for a casual date night after a long day at work when you want satisfying Italian food and a few glasses of red. We like the fried baby artichokes in a crispy basket made out of parm, and the massive, fall-off-the-bone lamb shank with polenta is a solid shareable choice. If you want a more lively setting, sit downstairs where the bar is, or ask for a table upstairs for a quieter meal." - kenny yang, matt tervooren, hannah albertine, molly fitzpatrick

Osteria Del Porto Review - South Street Seaport - New York - The Infatuation

"This charming, rustic restaurant is perfect for a casual date night after a long day at work, especially if you work around South Street Seaport. You'll find satisfying Italian food and a dozen wines by the glass that are definitely better than whatever you picked up at Trader Joe’s. Start with fried baby artichokes in a crispy basket made out of parm, then skip straight to the massive, fall-off-the-bone lamb shank with polenta. (A black truffle gnocchi was too firm.) Downstairs is livelier, with a communal counter table that's ideal for solo dining. For a quieter meal, ask for a table upstairs." - Kenny Yang

This cute little Italian spot is unassuming and accessible. After having had a few cocktails around the corner my friend and I needed dinner and hadn’t planned ahead. We were able to walk in and were seated right away. Food was lovely, wine was better, service was attentive and we even hung out for a bit as we didn’t feel rushed. If your in the area this might fit the bill, not sure I would go too far out of my way but options in this area can be limited so you won’t be disappointed if you end up here.

Got the tortellini and it was so delicious! Their cocktails are amazing as well. The Arabella was refreshing. Highly recommend the carpaccio as well. The portion size for the grilled octopus was small though.

Had dinner at Osteria del Porto and overall had a lovely experience. The ambiance was lovely—warm, dimly lit, and peaceful upstairs, while the downstairs has a bar area that we’ll check out next time. Food-wise, the Tortellini Toscani was a bit under-seasoned and slightly doughy for my taste, but the Ravioli di Zucca was much better. The Mango Salad was refreshing, and the Arancini al Limone made for a fresh, light start. For dessert, we tried the Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu, both of which were light and delicious. Looking forward to coming back and trying more!

Google
It was so good! Quite Italian atmosphere. Small cozy place. Dinner was served pretty quickly. We tried special pasta with crab meat. It was delicious. Beet salad is a must try! Sweet beets with somehow fried cheese-it’s a yum combination! Burrata with prosciutto was good, especially nice touch with baked bell peppers. Desserts are must try. It was my first Ricotta cheesecake. Very unusual taste. Tiramisu was extremely moisture and not sweet at all. So, highly recommend for tasty food lovers!

The atmosphere is fantastic, whether dining indoors or outdoors—both options are equally enjoyable. While the food was fresh, I found the flavors a bit subdued for my taste and felt that some dishes could benefit from a bit more seasoning. We started with the snow pea salad, which was wonderfully crisp and refreshing. For a hearty main course, the Chicken Milanese is a solid choice, though I’d prefer it pounded thinner. It’s quite meaty, so if that's your style, you’ll enjoy it. My son’s buttered pasta was a standout for me—perfectly cooked Spaghettoni, simple yet delicious. The meatballs were impressively light, and the sugo had great flavor, though both could’ve used a touch more salt to really bring out the best in the ingredients. The mushroom bruschetta, while pleasant, also lacked a bit of depth in flavor. That said, I’d definitely return. The experience was still enjoyable, and next time, I’ll just be sure to have a little salt handy to enhance the dishes to my liking.

We did not have a reservation and were seated immediately. The server was friendly, but it took a while to get our check. We got the burrata and seafood salad, both were excellent, the seafood salad had a nice dressing and was very fresh. The mains, the veal and the seafood pasta salad special were good, very filling.

Loved it, great location. We sat outside, it was a beautiful day, sunny but nice breeze. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was really good. Never had fried artichoke, very yummy def worth trying. We all had something different and everyone enjoyed their meals. The Chardonnay we ordered went very well with the meal.

Google
This is a very nice restaurant by seaport. Nice atmosphere to have dinner. Everything from the appetizers menu is good. I like the artichoke the best. Main dishes is good too. Pasta are better than white or red meat for this restaurant. I like the pasta to be cook longer. Meat can be more juicy. Overall a very nice restaurant for a date night.

Yelp
We got the burrata, linguine alle vongole, and paccheri all agnello. The burrata with proscuitto was so umami and to perfect appetizer to start. I loved the linguine alle vongole. There were enough clams and SO MUCH PASTA. Part of me wish it wasn't so carb heavy but the white wine sauce was light and made this dish pretty easy to tolerate. My friend likd the lamb ragu. It came with a decent amount of meat. This place is BUSY so make sure you make a reservation ahead of time. They have two floors of seating. Most of the tables are small but they are able to combine tables for huge parties over 10.

Yelp
Such a cozy and intimate restaurant. Definitely a place to come have some appetizers and some good wine . Great place to people watch out the windows .You definitely need a reservation for a Friday night . Fortunately we had a reservation since we were celebrating my mom 81 yrs birthday. The staff were amazing with my elderly parent . They made her feel super special . They were personable , knowledgeable and super attentive. The shrimp and octopus were perfectly cooked . The pasta dishes we had were super tasty and al dente . The chicken Milanese was seasoned well and crispy . The desserts were decadent And to top it off the staff sang happy birthday to my mom and in turn the whole restaurant sang to her It was a very memorable experience Thank you guys for a wonderful time

Yelp
This Italian restaurant is tucked by Seaport area and has outdoor dining. It's a super cute dinner spot and the food came out quickly. The calamari and the pasta was flavorful and delicious! Definitely will be back :)

Yelp
Came here after a long day of travel and the food was very warm and comforting. Start with apps, all were delicious. Main pastas were great, the ravioli was a bit smaller of a portion than I expected but delicious. Atmosphere was cozy. Servers were very attentive and quick! Solid spot for small group.

Yelp
Cozy Italian restaurant with delicious food and great service. Had reservations here and we thought for 2 the downstairs was more of a vibe than the tables upstairs. Our server was super friendly - all of the staff seemed to help everyone out which was nice to see. I forgot the names of the cocktails we ordered but their drinks were delicious. We ordered one of their specials which was a prosciutto bruschetta on focaccia bread. This honestly was more like a flatbread but was still super delicious. For my main dish I had the Paccheri All' Angello which was a large tube pasta with lamb ragu. This was super good and had a good amount of lamb. Big portion! My BIL had the Tortellini Toscani which was veal tortellini, prosciutto, mushrooms in a red tomato sauce. We both enjoyed our meals and though the portion sizes were great. For dessert we shared one of the cheesecakes which was unique as it had a Crème brûlée crunchy top crust. Super good! Overall, this is a great neighborhood restaurant and would definitely come back when visiting again!

Yelp
We ate here for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant was busy, but we were quickly seated. We ordered the Arancini which had a lovely lemon element, the Rigatoni alla Bolgnese and the Snow Pea Salad - all incredible.

Yelp
Back again for another fantastic experience. Service is outstanding. Watch the chefs prepare your meal right from the bar. Pair the meatball appetizer with a nice glass of red wine and relax..... well done!!

Yelp
A charming and rustic gem right on the corner of Peck and Beekman, Osteria was the perfect spot to celebrate a birthday. Though I might have dined here at the same location, my memory is inclined to say it was not Osteria but another restaurant in the past We had wonderful sidewalk seating equipped with lights and a cozy quietness since it wasn't a busy, mainstream block. And that suited us just fine. Service was very attentive as well as receiving recommendations from the server. Crusty bread and aioli was brought to the table after drink orders were taken. We ordered a few appetizers for the table. I tried the Fried Calamari (delicious), Arancini (crispy and light) and a piece of the Mushroom flatbread (an abundance of shrooms to please the palate). I ordered a delicious Venetian Spritz which was really an Aperol. As usual, refreshing and delicious. For main, I chose The Atlantic Cod (Pistachio crusted Cod Filet with forbidden rice, lemon risotto) which was a winner. Light, flaky Cod Filet sat on a Risotto bed and the marriage of flavors were quite pleasing and well executed. My finish was the Panna Cotta. They had the traditional Italian desserts and all looked amazing but on this evening, I deviated from the Tiramisu and chose this. Always a crowd pleaser, the Panna Cotta was a refreshing ending to a great meal. I'm definitely returning to Osteria Del Porto when in the area. Everything about it was charming--ambience, service and especially the food. Above all, the company. Isn't that what it's really all about anyway?

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place by accident while looking for a bite to eat after a nearby happy hour. I'm not sure there was anything memorable about our experience here, but I've paid more for worse. The portions were generous and the quality was solid. The Baby Kale Salad came with ample veggies and not too much dressing. The Paccheri All' Agnello was flavorful and al dente, while the Linguine Alle Vongole E Bottarga was generously full of clams. Throw in the dark, candlelit ambience, and you've got the ideal, affordable date spot by the sea.

Yelp
Extremely cozy Italian spot. We were able to get a table for two on a Friday night without any wait, and had pretty speedy and attentive service despite how busy it was. Food/pasta was not super memorable but not bad, I got some pesto dish and it hit the spot after a long day and flight/travel from JFK into Manhattan.

Yelp
I had such a delicious meal at this hidden gem! The vibes inside were so cute, and our service was great. Bread was yummy, salad was so fresh and unique, and the vongole was some of the best I've had. It was slightly creamy and had a delicious umami from the bottarga. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Located at the Fulton Market. Nice service, reasonable prices, and good food. 4*BRUSCHETTA FUNGHI E TARTUFO ~ Mixed Mushrooms, Fontina Cheese & Truffle Oil on Toasted Bread: I was surprised by the portion. It was huge for an appetizer, could have been an entree. Good flavor but may a lot of carbs. 4*RED BEET SALAD ~ Red Beets, Asparagus & Fried Goat Cheese: nice and healthy. Portion was rather small. 4*Sauteed Spinach: side dish, good and very healthy. 4*LINGUINE ALLE VONGOLE E BOTTARGA ~ Clams with Bottarga in White Wine Sauce: nice. linguine was cooked Al dente, the texture was just right. Nice flavor. I wish there's a clam only dish without linguine. It was too much carbohydrates for health conscious people.

Yelp
A hidden Italian gem near south street seaport. My friend and I were looking for a decent lunch spot and were not thrilled with the tourist hotspots the tin building offered by south street seaport. Thankfully we found this small Italian place nearby that served homemade pasta at a decent price. The food was great and the service impeccable. Not pictured is the delicious bread and dip served right after ordering. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The service was great from the time I walked in. The food was delicious and quick. The ambiance was low key and chill. Put this joint on your must check them out list.

Yelp
One of my favorites in New York! I think about the Fusilli Al Formaggi and Arancini atleast once a week, and have been here several times

Yelp
Shameen is an amazing hostess. She met us at the door, immediately made us feel welcome and instantly experienced a truly exceptional hostess. We were a large family group and sat upstairs. Charming, gorgeously rustic and quiet space. Loved it. The squid ink papperdelle pasta was the best I've ever enjoyed. Everyone was delighted with all aspects of the experience here. Congratulations to everyone involved for creating a life memory for this family. In appreciation, Bill

Yelp
Moved to 214 front May 15; think we've eaten here half a dozen times already! Love it. Great food and reasonable. Love the Nebbiolo.

Yelp
The few sample foods we had were good, although not seasoned enough. Taste was definitely lacking, but they made it up in presentation and speed of service. We sat outside. The weather was perfect and the tables and chairs were clean and comfortable. Didn't go inside. Our server was nice. I also appreciated the fact that we weren't hurried out after paying our bill. My drink (I forgot the name, but it was vodka based), was delicious.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in here on a Tuesday night around 6pm. The places is small, but it wasn't too crowded when we first go there. We ordered the Frittura Mista to share. I had the Cavatelli alla Salsiccia as my entrée. Both were very tasty. I loved the apples in the Mista. The Cavatelli was well cooked and the sausage ragu was very flavorful. Ambiance is super cute. It has a rustic, seaside cafe feel to it. It wasn't too noisy when we went, so it's a good spot to enjoy a conversation with friends. Service was good too. Our waiter was friendly and checked in on us. We never felt rushed throughout the dinner. Overall, Osteria Del Porto is a super cute spot if you find yourself in Seaport looking for Italian fare. They have a sizeable menu for any palate. The charming ambiance made for a very fun evening!

Yelp
My husband and I walked-in on a Friday night around 8 pm and got a table outside. It was a really nice romantic spot and felt like we were back in Italy. The staff was quick and friendly and they were attentive. I ordered the gnocchi Al porcini e tartufo. I thought it was very rich in flavor and was a really generous serving! We also got complimentary bread! I really liked the food and would get it again.
google avatar

Yelp
Tucked away in seaport area with the cutest and most romantic dining room--this is the ultimate date night spot!! Highly recommend a reservation as it fills up quickly but if you have a small party you may be okay to walk in without one depending on the day and time. The service is fast and phenomenal and the food...omg...the food is like, beyond. Hands down best gnocchi I have had on this continent and the arancini and linguini were equally delicious! 10/10 recommend and I will absolutely be back as soon as possible to try more of the menu out!!

Victoria R.

Yelp
Love this place. Just moved nearby and have already eaten here 3 times. A guaranteed good meal no matter what you order. Gnocchi is my favorite, but everything has been great. Artichokes and Brussels sprouts are a favorite from the appetizer options

Olivia O.

Yelp
Excellent!!! Delicious food and super cozy vibe. Service is great. It's our go to spot when craving Italian.

Yelp
My second time here was an unfortunate disappointment. The unexpected menu change and loud group standing behind me are to blame. I actually walked out halfway through my meal. Watery lobster bisque is never something to celebrate. The professional staff and clean space are worth mentioning.

Yelp
Wanted a takeout side to accompany a whole fish I'm grilling tonight. I walked into Osteria and asked who I believe to be the owner what his most generously portioned salad option was. He recommended the beet salad. $16 later and a trip home, I found this. Five thin slices of beet, perhaps two asparagus spears, and *maybe* a ping pong ball of fried cheese. Had to say something. So, I called back Osteria. Was this a mistake? No, said the guy who answered the phone, this was no mistake, this is their "standard portion." Management shouldn't bother with a face-saving "try us again soon" reply - I won't be back. Bye, Osteria.

Yelp
Very decent food at this Italian joint and cozy atmosphere. We had a nice dinner on a girls night out, our server was terrific and the food was delicious. On appetizers, we tried Octopus Carpaccio, Burrata, and the tasty Brussel Sprouts Gratin. For main course we ordered Boneless Free Range Half Chicken, juicy tendered meat. Spaghettoni pesto e gamberi Pasta was pretty good and the special of the day (veal) was delicious.
google avatar

Leslie T.

Yelp
My husband and I were wandering around South Seaport on a Sunday mid-afternoon and got hungry so after seeing all the food in the area, we opted for a quaint Italian restaurant. Note that it's next to another Italian restaurant but this one had younger people, better vibes, modern-Italian and also seemed to emphasize their pasta and entrees more so than their pizzas, unlike their neighbor. We sat outside and was greeted promptly. We ordered: -Calamari $18 -Rack of Lamb $32 -Frutti di Mare Risotto with white wine (comes with red or white option) $24 -Squid Ink special with head-on shrimp in blush bourbon sauce $30 Unfortunately our rack of lamb came out well done (no pink at all even tho we asked for medium) so the waiter promptly took it back and offered us the same or the option to switch the entree. Pasta comes out a lot faster than meat so we changed to the special of the day: a squid ink pasta with head-on shrimps in a blush bourbon sauce. Honestly, best decision we made all day because it was delicious. The sauce was amazing with lots of flavor and hint of bourbon but not overpowering. Frutti di Mare Risotto was pretty run of the mill, I wasn't licking the plate clean at the end. Calamari breading was on point and light, standard calamari that hits the spot. The dishes all seemed to be missing a little extra umph, but it was a decent meal. Free bread comes with olive oil with a little extra tomato puree or something, rather tasteless in my opinion. Their appetizers were large portions, I saw other tables order the burrata and it came with a large ball surrounded by generous portions of prosciutto. Other popular picks were the branzino special that day and head-on shrimp appetizer.

Yelp
Great food high quality! Nice ambiance ate here with a party of 7 they accommodated us so it's good with big parties. Very clean nice place highly recommend if you are in the area

Yelp
Huge lover of seafood so naturally ordered Tuna Tartare, the Branzino special, the Burrata, and Linguine Alle Vongole. I love how the linguine with white wine was light and really loved the clams, I wish there was more! Tuna Tartare was different, wasn't expecting it to have a refreshing taste but wish I could have tasted more of the tuna. It was a little bland, maybe too many cucumbers. I had read reviews from other users that the branzino special is their favorite so I had to try it and I was not disappointed. It was the obvious star of the dinner. The presentation of the dish was beautiful like the other dishes. I wasn't expecting it to be curled though which made it interesting. It's EXCELLENT. I would definitely come back and order the branzino if it's available. Also can't go wrong with the burrata--love prosciutto. Overall, dinner was great but I didn't like how the staff left the door wide open because it was super chilly like 55 degrees outside. Maybe crack it open next time instead of leaving it super wide open? The Arabella cocktail I ordered was interesting. It had a burning cinnamon stick which I really loved smelling. Loved the aromatic experience. Service was excellent and our host was super friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Ti W.

Yelp
Great Italian restaurants with awesome vibe in Seaport! I loved the combination of prosciutto and burrata, with the mixture of the cheesy and freshness of the burrata blended well with the salty and aged prosciutto. The pasta was tasty in general, though none of the pasta extremely wowed me. The place was perfect for friends gathering but if I crave for pasta I would probably go somewhere else more focused on food.
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
This is my dinner tonight. Eggplant ragu rigatoni. $20+ pasta dish that's small looking even in a takeout container, and totally undercooked- *not* al dente- undercooked. So disappointing. I've also had the Cacio w Pepe and Fusilli ai formaggi, previously, both of which were underwhelming in flavor and texture. Just to say that I really did give this place a chance. I will have to conclude that this exceptional rating comes from both tourists and people who are not very discerning of Italian food quality. Sorry to say it. You guys call yourselves foodies? Very strange

Yelp
The ambiance of this place was good and the service was good. the food from the start i got 3 different flat sodas. the portions were very small , the calamari, steak and rice balls were good . the cod and risotto gave my brother in law a very upset stomach and did not taste good. my gnocchi was not bad but did lack a lot of flavor. i would not come back here

Yelp
Leonardo is amazing!!! Aldo is wonderful!! Perfect team. The service, the atmosphere and the food is 5 stars. If you haven't been here please get here. Incredible everything!! We did a large 20 person dinner here and it did not disappoint. Had the prefix menu and perfecto!! It's so difficult to plan a large group dinner and this place makes it easy.

Yelp
The old lady and I popped in here randomly and WOW! The food was amazing! We split the snow pea salad which was so flavorful! I ordered the vitello piccata which was to die for, I will have a hard time ordering something besides that! The old lady ordered the ravioli di zucca which also so so good. Friendly wait staff and a great scene!
google avatar

Cami P.

Yelp
The salad and appetizer of the Fried Artichoke was good. The calamari was off, not fresh, rubbery, something was way off about it. The spaghetti pesto with shrimp I ordered was very salty, I couldn't even finish it, just ate the shrimp. I didn't want to send it back because I was with a group and didn't want to hold things up. The crème brûlée was ok, I only took a few bites. I dont know if I would come back here but wouldn't order the 3 dishes I had a bad experience with.
google avatar

Hung V.

Yelp
Nothing really special about this place. The lamb meat was okay but the flavor was just okay

Andrew H.

Yelp
A simple but incredibly welcoming little place across frm the Fulton Mkt. Service is perfect, attentive but not helicopter. Tried the snowpea salad: spectacular, as were the arancini. The cod is great, but the underlying risotto, lots of lemon, is world-class. The vitello, again, super, and the spinach accompaniment is even better! Couldnt reccomend more warmly.
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
This is by far the best pasta I have eaten in my entire LIFE. Better than anything I ate in Italy. We had the Cacio E Pepe and the truffle gnocchi and my life is forever changed. It tasted as if the noodles were made that evening. Service was incredible. Patio dining ambience was perfect and felt very European. 10/10 would recommend and would die to eat here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Not a very good experience the soup was so water done and had A piece of sube lobster it the pasta had no taste bland sent that back after the water down soup experience no way I'm ordering anything else has some drinks the server was super nice. Maybe I order the wrong thing but this place is cute for drinks and friends for good eating not quite sure .

Yelp
Amazing food wine and dessert. Small place but great service. Reservations give you a nicer table upstairs with less people. Have now been here twice and would recommend for any date night or dinner with friends.

Yelp
This is a cute, authentic Italian restaurant. The Italian white wine was delicious. Service was great-true Italian style where they don't rush you out. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food, service, atmosphere each get an A. A true surprise as while we were not expecting a bad experience, we were not expecting a really good one either....given it is a high tourist traffic area.

Yelp
Very friendly and great service with the owners always on site. Only open a week and they already have their act together. Delicious wines by the glass.Duck Breast great. Seafood carpaccio tasty. Pistachio crusted Cod good. Great addition to the neighborhood and they really make you feel welcome.

Yelp
I love the lightly fried calamari, the lobster bisque and kale salad... awesome Sunday treat in the south street seaport.
