The 25 Best Restaurants In Rome 2024

"Osteria Der Belli is the type of restaurant where you might run into an Italian actor you’ve seen on TV. Grab a seat outside on their shaded patio, and go to town on a bowl of spaghetti alle vongole while discreetly Googling that famous-looking person at the table over. Then, order their thin slices of melt-in-your-mouth tuna on top of a bed of crispy potato rounds, or whatever the fish of the day is. End the meal with their refreshing crema gelato crowned with strawberries, or sgroppino—icy lemon sorbet that they top with prosecco and mirto, a classic Sardinian berry liqueur." - gillian mcguire, annie replogle

We also went there because of the good reviews. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food tasted good but nothing special. I don’t no why but you can only order the carbonara if you share it.. Worst of all: the toilet had no toilet-seat on it! Wonder why there are restaurants where people are queuing to get in and that’s not one of them ;)

Had a great dinner here on a summer weekday night. We were there early around 730 pm and place wasn’t full yet, and we had made a reservation on google maps. It is located in a nice and bustling area in Travestere. Service was prompt and attentive. We had 4 appetizers (artichoke hearts, calamari, mussels and clams and fried anchovies) and 3 mains (lamb, linguine vongole and rockfish pasta) - everything tasted fantastic. It was good to experience non-cheesy/heavy pasta after a few days of that in Rome.

Google
Food was good! The pasta amitriciana, grilled calamari and fish of the day were good. Watch out when ordering the fish of the day as it can get pricy depending on the size of the fish - still worth it! My highlight was the tiramisu! Absolutely delicious. The staff is very friendly, however they are not very flexible regarding dietary restrictions. It was not an issue as everyone found a dish that worked.

Google
Cosy little spot at a corner! Highly recommend the grilled squid, cacio e pepe and tiramisu here! Coffee was good too. But do note you need to order at least 2 portions for the cacio e pepe/carbonara A little on the pricier side but all the ingredients used were so fresh, especially the squid!!!! Literally melts in your mouth and tastes PERFECT

Google
Incredible food, massive wine list, no real social media hype like the rest of the places in trastevere but it’s beautiful

Google
Best seafood in Roma in the center of Trastevere. Sardinian style, this is fantastic and unexpected to find such seafood restaurant here. 10 out of 10 recommended by Peroni Family.

"Just had an amazing experience here! Value for money, super delicious food, and hands down the best espresso coffee in Rome. Highly recommend!"

Gustav Strömberg

Google
Authentic and genuine seafood restaurant in the heart of Trastevere. The spaghetti alle vongole was delicious and the tiramisu one of the best. Great wine list as well.

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner. The best spaghetti al vongola we have had in Rome and we lived here for five years in the early 1980's. Also had grilled spigola - outstanding, cleaned and served at the table. Can't say enough about this restaurant!!! If you want to taste true Italian seafood this is your place. None better. Also wine selection was outstanding. Service was impeccable.. What more can I say Blake and Vicki

Yelp
Followed my own advice from last year, and used my one night in Rome en route back from the Costa Smeralda to dine once again at this sensational seafood restaurant. Rombo alla griglia, fresh anchovies, spaghetti pescatore are among the menu choices that were surpassingly excellent. Don't miss this place if you can make it. It is well worth it and will enhance your trip. Fairly priced, too...

Yelp
This review will be very short. Osteria der Belli is among the finest restaurants that I've ever eaten at. That's it. We had a large party seated outside, and every bite of food and every moment of service was complete perfection. I have recommended it to many people.

Yelp
I was excited about trying this restaurant due to great reviews. I showed up at 12:35pm. There were three tables sat over 30 tables all empty. The waiter asked if I had a reservation, I didn't have. He said it's full. So we went to the corner restaurant and had a pleasant time and great service. When I was done, I walked bay as an other waiter younger one waved people in from the street. Stay away from this place if you are American and especially Asian. This pace is extremely racist while there are so many other great restaurants to enjoy.

Yelp
One of the best places to eat seafood in Trastevere if not all of Rome. Maria Pasquale, who publishes the blog Heart Rome, and who also recently published a book by the same name, Sardinian owner Leo is always on hand Huge outdoor covered dining area not on a heavily trafficked street

Yelp
Great seafood. Lots of nice extra dishes. Casual atmosphere with a mix of locals and tourists. Nice wine list with a good selection of Sardinian wines.

Yelp
Seafood lover's restaurant and our best meal in Rome! Setting in Trastevere is amazing, plus food, service and wine were outstanding. And had great heaters for outside dining. Not a tourist trap either, as we were eating with mostly locals. The highlights for us were the calamari starter (which they gave to us for free!), grilled octopus and artichoke appetizers, pasta with clams and pasta with big grilled prawns. Plus, we got tiramisu, creme brulee, and lemon gelato for dessert, which were all excellent. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
food was the best food I had in Italy. I stayed in Rome, Milano , Sorento , amalfi and Napoli portion are big and the sea food pasta was full of seafood. had the same dish in other restaurant that had 4 or 5 pieces of clam or fish. this restaurant was by far the best and the fish had at least 20 pieces if not more. and the clams and fish was so fresh. service is amazing. the owner comes to your table to make sure you like the food and the servers are fast and attentive. you have to book since there is always people wanting to eat there. but we didn't book and when we went at 9 they were booked for the night but the owner did a special accommodation for us when we told him it's our last night in Rome. the catch of the day was delicious and very fresh they debone the fish for you. and we had a grill mix of calamari and squid that was spot on. after 2 weeks in Italy this was the best restaurant we went to and the prices are very good too. We paid around $60 for 2 people I can't recommend him enough. best advise we had from the hotel it came very highly recommended by everyone working in the hotel and for a very good reason

Yelp
Really great food. Near the Vatican and St. Peter's basilica. One of the better meals we had in Italy but quite expensive. Came out to be about $50 per person.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant which had locals dotted with the visitors fortunate enough to discover it. It's known for it's fresh seafood dishes but I think it's important to mention that the menu had plenty of fresh vegetable side dishes that would have even suited a vegan! Outdoor patio was pleasant on a nice day. You must go for at least one meal if you're staying in the Trastevere area.

Yelp
The food was great - we had the clams and bruschetta starters, carbonara (wonderful), grilled calamari (best I've ever had), and the pasta with pecorini and anchovies (simply amazing). The lamb was just "meh" and the potatoes weren't anything special. The waiter was a bit rude but i don't think he actually meant to be. If you go, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Came at a busy time (10 pm Saturday night) so service was a little slow, but definitely a fun and lively location. There were a ton of locals chilling out so we definitely felt it was an authentic Saturday night experience. Prices are a little steeper given the location but the food was solid. Not the BEST we've had, but definitely not the worst. We got spaghetti with clams, the grilled sole, and the roman asparagus. The spaghetti + calms was decent but we preferred the version from Piacere Molise near the Vatican. The pasta was extra al dente, just a heads up! The grilled sole was okay - tasted a little fishy and I've had better at Italian places in california (so sue me). The roman asparagus was good if you liked asparagus, but a tad too salty.

Yelp
At dinner the previous evening, we asked our server Renato at Ristorante Paris (read my review on that restaurant) to recommend a place that he would go to for dinner, not touristy and not fine dining. He recommended this place and offered to make reservation for us. We arrived with our table ready and started with the wine list. Here, I did not know which bottle of wine to order, so we asked our server, Daniele for a recommendation. I was looking for something like a cabernet, but on the dry side, not too fruity. He made an excellent choice as all four of us liked it very much and ended ordering 4 bottles for the rest of the night. We started the meal with sautéed mussels, and grilled octopus. The mussels were big and cooked perfectly, the sauce, we had to order more bread to mop it up, delicious. The grilled octopus on the menu said - carpaccio di polpo, so I thought it was like a traditional carpaccio (raw and sliced thin) but it was grilled, which was okay because it was delicious, with an excellent texture, not rubbery at all. Pastas: Spaghetti alle vongole, spaghetti with clams in a white wine sauce, which was amazing. I asked Daniele if he could add cherry tomatoes to the dish, he did. It actually reminded me of the same dish I had years ago in Positano, Italy. It was light and fresh and just amazing. You'd think - how hard could it be to make this dish amazing? you'd be surprised. Tagliolini spigola e pachino - tagliolini with striped bass and tomatoes. Nothing bad to say about this dish either, pasta was a perfect al dente and the sauce amazing. The fish was cut into small pieces but did not detract from the overall look or flavor at all. Two in my party had this dish. Spaghetti alla pescatora - spaghetti with seafood sauce. Again, everything about this dish was great. For dessert, which we could have ordered earlier, when we found out the kitchen was closing, we weren't thinking that dessert would be finished too. But, we saw another table's dessert. One of the waiters whisked fresh whipped cream at their table and poured it over fresh berries. Just the show alone of him whipping the cream would have been reason enough to order it. This restaurant was the best meal we had in Rome, if we had another night there (we only had 2), we would have certainly gone back for another meal. The service was incredible, very attentive and Daniele, our server made it better by treating us like we were regulars. We paid $170 euro for the meal and gave him $40 euro as a tip for the excellent service. Daniele if you read this review, thank you so much again for everything! - from the group that needed a wine bucket to chill the red wine. We hope to see you again in the future.

Yelp
Yum! Worth the trick to find in this charming neighborhood! Authentic delicious quality cuisine

Yelp
Best seafood Italian restaurant I've been to in my 10 days trip. Friendly and professional customer service staff.

Yelp
Seafood was not as good as I had hoped. Husband got the bass and I got mixed seafood. The mixed seafood was kind of tough. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to going to this place. Staff and atmosphere were great.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I've tasted during our stay in Rome. Beautifully prepared seasonal antipasti and fresh seafood. Convivial with a distinctively local clientele. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I wanted to give more stars but the pasta is not cooked all the way! Also last night I think something happened in the kitchen so orders took forever to come out. The pasta, when we got it was flavorful ( spaghetti with fish sauce) and I had the big grilled prawns. I guess for 22 euros I expected more than 4 big prawns. I had fried potatoes on the side and I didn't realize they were an additional charge.the house frascati was good and the cappuccino was one of the best. I wanted this to be better but I guess the kitchen mix ups really effected the dinner. The waiter said that they were having issues and that's why everything was slow.

Yelp
Finest seafood I've eaten in a long time. Fresh and simply prepared! Friendly service and good prices make this a winner! I enjoyed a delicious seafood salad and Tuna with potatoes. House made desserts are not to be missed.

Yelp
This is where the locals go! And a local friend that lived in the neighbourhood recommended this. Thanks Jobe! Lively meal fumiciato pescado, ravioli sardini beautifully homemade with ricotta and spinach and a lovely pink tomatoe cream sauce.served with three slices of wheat bread. Plus in season veggies ( verde ventigliano??)5 came on the plate ( zucchini/courgettes, radish, brocollini, eggplant/Aubergine (cooked so perfectly they has the creamy texture of mash potatoes), and another which I think was a type of cabbage ( it was green and a little bitter).

Yelp
A very good choice in Trastevere area for a sit down dinner. Their seafood is very fresh and the pastas are tasty.

Yelp
Was seated on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Service was pretty slow, but the waiter was friendly. Ordered an Insalata di mare and a spaghetti vongole but was very disappointed by both. The salad was better than the pasta which had minimal flavor. But I wanted to come here since it seemed like a lot of locals come. The complimentary almond cookie they give you was pretty delicious.

Yelp
Some of the best pasta we had in Rome. The cacio e pepe, the ravioli, and the gnocchi were simply outstanding

Yelp
We got to this restaurant at 9:30 on a Wednesday night without a reservation and they were able to seat us outside within 15 minutes. Got the clams with a side of bruschetta as an appetizer, which were tender and flavorful. We had the pasta with stewed tomatoes and sea bass as our main meal, and it was so simple, yet flavorful, fresh, and delicious as well. Our server steered us right with recommendations, and was polite and attentive and accommodating of our less than perfect Italian. Highly recommended, would go back, no question.

Larry C.

Yelp
Great place a must eat if you are in the Trastevere neighborhood. Lots of locals. We had lunch there. Order the antipasti de la cassa to die for fresh and tasty. Nice simple fresh Italian food, home meal. The owner serves you, ask if they have any specials. Homemade pasta... One of the best food we had in Rome.

Pete C.

Yelp
We went to Osteria Der Belli based on the Yelp reviews and it was close to our apartment. We enjoyed the wine and appetizers. We had the farfalle with prawns. The pasta was like any pasta you can buy in a box and the prawns were not fresh. I would not recommend going here. We had better dinners in Rome.

Frank J.

Yelp
Went there with our daughter,12years old, who needs a wheelchair. We were not allowed to sit down. There were several free tables. It was disgusting! So if you wish to enjoy your meal without the obviously awkward view of people in wheelchairs: this is THE place to be in Rome.
