12 Steakhouses to Try in Portland and Beyond

"This mini-chain has locations throughout the greater Portland area, but its the original Lake Oswego location that’s worth visiting — and, importantly, just a 15 minute drive on the interstate from Portland proper. There are four different steaks, plus add-ons including jumbo grilled prawns; any of the steaks with the labor-intensive house demiglace are worth an order. Say yes to the house pepper rub and blue cheese crumbles." - Krista Garcia, Thom Hilton

We are here twice in a long weekend (brunch and a Monday dinner). Both times we were a large party (8 and 11). Our party size caused no problems. The service was stellar. A small flub on one brunch order was quickly remedied. Very nice menu selection and good food.

Google
The Oswego Grill was absolutely amazing. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. It was actually the best I've had. Fresh, the aioli was great. For dinner, we had the grilled prawns with orzo. It had the best flavor. Jay was such a great server. He was personable, friendly, and on task. The place was packed, too. Now I know why, great food, excellent service, and such a wonderful atmosphere.. I am looking forward to our next visit there. The hostess was also very kind, I feel bad I didn't get her name. Thank you, Oswego Grill, for such a perfect evening!

Google
My colleague and I had dinner at Oswego Grill last night. The ambiance was excellent. We started with grilled Brussels sprouts as our appetizer. For the main course, I had the ribeye steak with sautéed mushrooms, while my colleague chose the top sirloin. The steaks were delicious, and the service was great! The only minor critique was that the sautéed mushrooms could have been seared a bit more. The dessert was very good as well.

We showed up near closing on a Friday night. We were seated right away and our meals came fast. The food presentation was gorgeous. We liked our meals but really enjoyed the donuts.

Met up with college mates for the first time since graduate. It was great catching up and learning about what each of them is doing today, all these years later…. Has it really been 29 yrs?

This is my favorite happy hour place to stop by after work. The full menu has a lot of good offerings for a reasonable price. Pictured are the prime rib pot pie, the spicy mac, and the wagyu sliders.

Google
Lake Oswego presented a great atmosphere, service and yes let's talk about the food. I had steak tips which came with a garden salad tossed in vinaigrette dressing, spinach and artichoke dip, the apple crisp for desert that cane with vanilla ice cream and 2 alcoholic beverages. Total cost less than $50 on the bar side. The food was over the top good as was the drinks. I didn't tell the waitress how I wanted my steak and they came out in perfection. Everything was done in a timely manner. I will definitely be back.

We celebrated a birthday here and all had a great time. Salads were delicious and steaks were spectacular! Service was very friendly and professional. Overall a great experience. I really appreciated the birthday welcome!!! Ambiance is warm and friendly. Noise not an issue. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Made reservations for a busy Saturday night. Seated within minutes of arrival. Full dining room but not too loud. Booth seating was perfect for our group of 4. Prime rib is big enough for 2 to share. Fried Brussels sprouts were different but tasty. Service was attentive. Wil definitely be back!

Yelp
Pretty busy for a Monday! Ordered online. Got there about 6 minutes after said time. Waited about 15 minutes for extra. The hostesses were very friendly and there was a bunch inside for me to wait and sit. Artichoke dip had big chunks of artichoke and came with garlic toasty bread and tortilla chips. Yum. I got the fish and chips for dinner. I like the big pieces of fish but since I took it to go, the breading may have softened a little. The fries were just okay. My fave of my meal was definitely the artichoke, spinach, and cheese dip!

Yelp
I ordered a miso ramen delivered to my hotel, and it was great! The broth was flavorful, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the toppings were fresh. Highly recommend for a comforting meal! Yelp
All HH items Our cocktails were soooo good but they're from the normal menu! The LO location updated their patio and it was so nice for a fun happy hour date night. GRILLED PRAWN CEVICHE Fun & happy we tried it but idk if I would get this again personally. Served with lots of tortilla chips which was nice too, def didn't run out! Could use a little extra something, maybe lime or spice, idk FISH TACOS Absolutely worth getting every single time! Such a great option especially if you're gluten free! Served with lime would tip it over the edge. Ingredients here always taste so fresh. Also very good portion size CALI ROLL Good not great. Honestly is just fun to get sushi randomly here & love that it's an option. A little Cali roll on the side never hurt anyone. ‍ FRIES Good not great. But always a welcomed addition. HAWAIIAN SPRING SALAD It's cool that there is another salad option on the HH menu. This wasn't my favorite because I wasn't a super fan of the base being only arugula. LETTUCE WRAP Very very good! The flavor of the chicken was good & not too salty or anything. Lettuce was crisp & great. Would probz get this every time! Personally would love if it had a little spice. DRANKSSS *Watermelon Margarita - tequila. So good. *Cucumber breeze - gin. my husbands perfect cocktail.

Yelp
This place was buzzing on a Monday afternoon. I'm mixed on the Chicken Pot Pie: it's definitely got the ooh factor when it's served, but the giant crust is somewhat flavorless. However, the soupy filling makes up for it with good flavor. The Turkey Club is ample and delicious. Service is top notch. Extra points for a manager-type who made his rounds checking on tables.

Yelp
Slow, marginal food, great bar! Wasn't crowded but an hour to get orders. Reservation made but had to wait.

Yelp
I had their summer special which was a chimichurrr burger which was good. The server was very tentative to our needs while we were there. The atmosphere was very nice with white linen on the tables.

Yelp
Food as good as always! Tried a seasonal item today... clothesline bacon. Not bad. Not fantastic either. Five pieces for $15.

Yelp
Good food. Good prices. Nice ambiance. Service soso. I would return. Clean, quality cleanliness all on point.

Yelp
Much more than your average grill - this place was pretty impressive. The casual, but upscale setting helps promote a celebratory feeling while eating here. The host was helpful over the phone and they sat and served us reasonably fast. Many of the appetizers looked good but we got an order of the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and really enjoyed them. For the main dishes, I got the Parmesan Crusted Sole and enjoyed every bite. It was pretty and the dish was tasteful, yet delicate. All of the fish that our table ordered was cooked very well. It wasn't the cheapest option around, but certainly worth it for a casually special event!

Yelp
We made reservations in the morning for 7 that same evening at 5:30pm. We both got there right at 5:30 and got seated right away. Our waitress Julie greeted us soon after we sat down and took our drink orders. Shortly after that the rest of our family showed up. We were there for a birthday dinner. I usually order an appetizer so I got the spinach and artichoke dip. It looked delicious served with toasted bread and tortilla chips. I did not have any of it though but everyone else ate it up really fast so they loved it. I got the Alfredo with chicken. Well, they said it comes with chicken but not much of it. It tasted really good though either red peppers and onions in it. The sauce was pretty good and not creamy like the kind you get at Olive Garden. One member of our group ordered the fried chicken and when he got it he asked the waitress Julie for some Tabasco sauce but she did not bring it out until he was done with his meal. Bummer. Everyone loves their food. It was nice they gave the birthday girl a free dessert. The donuts they gave for dessert were delicious with the Carmel sauce was delicious. Then the check came and they automatically added at 20% tip on to the total of the bill. 20% seemed a little high considering the waitress messed up a couple times. Oh well, that's the way it goes. I don't come here that often. We got a free dessert so that makes up for it huh.

Yelp
A group of four, we went in for happy hour about 4 PM on a Thursday. Happy hour is in the bar area only - there are plenty of tables but they do fill up quickly. Options for HH are fairly good: 1/4lb cheeseburger & fries was tasty but on the small side but appropriately priced. Fried Brussels sprouts were well seasoned, however I found them a bit underdone so bitter, and a tad greasy. Steak bites seemed to be the most popular item and were extremely tasty, and for me, with the accompanying greens, a meal. Beer cheese soup was somewhat bland. Burger sliders were good. Ambience at Oswego Grill is just wonderful. Crowded in the bar area, but comfortable. The dining table area is quiet and a great place for a romantic meal! Prices are reasonable, service is exceptional and food is reliably good.

Yelp
Our last meal before flying out in the morning... Parking, even though there seemed to be a good amount, was crazy. It was like circling vultures waiting for the lions to be done with their wildebeest. Everyone circling and just waiting for a place to open. That should have been the sign. Oswego Grill is a nice spot. They offer upscale American food that is tasty and well prepared. There is a full bar seating area and quite a bit of table space. However when we got here it was peak dinner time and extremely packed! We did manage to find a cramped spot at the bar where we were able to order food. It was a warm day out and either their air conditioning was not made to handle the amount of people and the heat outside or it just was not working correctly. Either way it made for an uncomfortably warm dinner. But we had survived the parking vultures and muscled our way to the watering hole... we were sticking it out. I ordered the fried chicken. It comes out almost a burnt brown... but it is not burnt. The chicken is moist and just loaded with a wonderful flavor. There is a ton of food on the plate! Two what seems like half chickens... it isn't but it might as well have been. I would have been fine with just one portion and felt bad I couldn't finish the delectable poultry. I left my other half for the vultures. The bar tender was nice, very busy, but kept up with our service despite the flow of drink orders. If it hadn't been for the lack of air con in this place it would have been an easy 5. If the chicken hadn't been this good it would have been an easy 3. So that tells you how good the chicken was. Would I go back? You bet... but hopefully they have the air worked out.

Yelp
Quick. Service was friendly. Food was good. Self seating at the bar, which also had booths! In and out in 45 minutes and the sun is still up to make it home for a family movie!
google avatar

Mikayla C.

Yelp
The happy hour prices are great, but the food is very mediocre (dry buns on the sliders, dry fish on the tacos, very sweet California rolls). Service was okay, our food took 40 minutes to come out and we were never updated/checked on in the meantime. Probably won't come back.

Yelp
We had outstanding service by Carlie at today's lunch of the Oswego burger and crispy fries. Attentive, professional and enthusiastic server who made our lunch experience positive and relaxing. Will ask for her again!

Yelp
It was an extremely busy Saturday night. Restaurant was full, but managed to get a table in the bar. Happy hour was ending at 6pm. HH menu looked good. Will need to go back and try it. Ordered their pot pie, it was ok. Looked amazing as it came out, but crust was way over cooked. However, it came with bread so it was alright. Appetizer chosen tonight was the calamari. It was good. Different, as it was little nuggets. Not sure if I'd order them again. In all, it way a nice night out at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Our waiter Mark was fantastic! Food was fabulous, the smell of the wood fired smoke grill so very appetizing too! Between the healthy salmon salad with a cornucopia of healthy ingredients, to the savory chicken Marsala, to the grilled chicken on ciabatta bread, all our choices were tasty. Highly recommend checking this place out for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Awesome service, chill vibe, and fantastic food. I am not usually a huge marg fan but when the server mentioned it had fruit purée in it I was sold. I LOVE fruit purée and with this drink I could become a more regular flavored margarita drinker! I am also VERY picky with my fish and these tacos hit the spot. They were flavorful and the mango salsa paired very nicely with the fish and rice side. One thing I was a little unhappy with was the corn tortilla was not stable enough to hold all the taco contents so it was a mess to eat. The portion size was just right as I are almost all of it and felt full but not too full. To end the night we had the seasonal lemon strawberry cake and it was fantastic. I really enjoyed this restaurant and would try again!

Yelp
This was my second time at Oswego Grill and I'm pretty disappointed! My daughter was heading out of town for spring break so we decided to splurge a bit and go out to dinner. We took a bit to pick our entrees so we got drinks and an appetizer while we selected. We put in our order in and after she took it, three tables were sat near us; one with our server and two with another server. Our meals didn't arrive until after all three tables! I couldn't believe it. Our server NEVER gave us an update on it. I kept waiting for her to comment something and she never did. When our food finally came my daughter's alfresco had very little chicken and my steak was super fatty and very over cooked. I don't think we'll return, Outback is superior to this place.

Lindsi B.

Yelp
Traveling in Oregon and stopped in for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We were able to make reservations online and seated with in 15 mins of reservation. Restaurant is dimly lit but a great atmosphere. Food was very good and served quickly for as busy as they were! I ordered the beef pot pie which had a delicious flavor but was slightly disappointed that it didn't have a top and bottom crust. It was more of a thin phyllo top and a beef stew. The stuffed chicken also had a delicious flavor as well. Overall I would definitely recommend a be a return customer!
google avatar

Michael Y.

Yelp
Always good place to get the steak dinner at reasonable price. It's not Ruth Chris but very good. One of the restaurant I gave a meal during my visit or good for the team dinner.
google avatar

Ciarra L.

Yelp
Food- the menu online looks appetizing and appealing however from my 2 experiences with this place the food is as best comparable to Shari's. Maybe less. We've ordered the tenderloins with fries, a kids like Alfredo pasta, adult version, some chicken dinner with asparagus... and a big issue is how they cooked the asparagus. If you ever smell the grill during summertime and it's like propane like- that's how the asparagus tasted. Desserts are probably the safest for ordering. Banana split... the donuts would be better if they were smaller. Service- I did not like our server. She was super pushy. When I didn't want to take my donuts home- she asked if I wanted to take them home & I said no thanks I'm good. However she pressed and asked if I was sure and if everything was ok? If you're a server listen to your clientele don't be pushy. Ambiance- they have a nice building, location, furniture however I feel like the parties they're reaching out to are older and have minimal taste. I don't think I'd return and I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
When is the last time you have actually seen a burger that looks this good? This is an untouched photo that looks like a burger commercial add. Beyond the great food and cocktails big call out to Leah L for excellent service. Lake Oswego is old school great! bravo!

Yelp
I came in here not too long ago with my in-laws to have lunch while we were out shopping. We were immediately seated and out server was prompt. I didn't catch her name, but she was very nice. I ordered a turkey, bacon, and avocado sandwich. The bacon was legit. Candied and cooked to perfection. My mother in-law ordered a salad with the dressing on the side. Which didn't happen, but our server caught it right as the food arrived and waited to see if another salad needed to be made. My mother in-law wasn't sure if she'd like the dressing, which was why she asked for it on the side originally. Props to our server for sticking around to make sure it was ok or to remake it and fix the problem. The restaurant itself is both clean and spacious. Although a bit loud when it's busy, so the noise can feel a bit overwhelming. Would I return? I'm kind of 50/50 on this one. While it was good food and I had no complaints, there wasn't anything on the menu to really bring me back. My in-laws often gravitate to bland chain restaurants, it seems. I ate and was satisfied, but there wasn't any excitement or anything specific to rave about or make it memorable so I would want to return.

Yelp
This is probably the third time I have been to Oswego Grill. The first couple times I visited I did not leave a review. I just didn't feel right about a poor review, when others seemed to be awe struck with this place. However, this trip (being the third try) I can't let it go unsaid, again. The service was good and the prices were on par with most other dinner spots. But, I am not exaggerating when I say, the food here is really poorly executed......ranging from dry and over cooked meat dishes to pasta being merely stacked on a dish with absolutely no effort to dress it up with a little panache...... Nope! What would have been acceptable at Flo's, Choke & Puke Cafe, really falls short of what Oswego tries to aspire.

Nelida N.

Yelp
The food was so delicious, I went twice during my visit. The restaurant is very clean and nice. I really recommend this place. Great service and great food.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
I've always liked Oswego grill, they have an excellent happy hour. We went here last weekend for my husbands birthday lunch and they even gave us a free ice cream to celebrate. The whole place is always nice but I've always felt it's a better atmosphere for winter than summer. Also the server this time was super nice and knowledgeable. I'd recommend the shrimp appetizer while it lasts.
google avatar

Christie S.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great prices! What a nice surprise this place was! I usually avoid "chain" restaurants, but I'll be back! I'm still thinking about the calamari- yum!!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch for the first time since we were in the area. The service was great. Our waitress was really attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our food at all. Everything was really good except for 1 item. We ordered an appetizer, the spinach and artichoke dip. It tasted like any other spinach and artichoke dip you would get at other places, but it came with tortilla chips and 4 crostinis. Both of the pasta dishes we ordered were really flavorful, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Very moist and juicy, not dry or over cooked. The stuffed salmon was also pretty good. It was stuffed with crab and shrimp and came with asparagus. The other item we ordered was grilled Turkey BLT with fries and both the sandwich and the fries were not that great, very bland. Overall, we would definitely come back if we are ever in the area again. I would like to try their happy hour.
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
It's a little crowded During happy hour time, so seating in the bar area is limited. The food was okay, the service was great. If we are ever visiting this side of town again we will definitely stop by again

Yelp
So we have been here before and have enjoyed it. During covid and after things opened it was hard to get into for a while. Got in last week when it was super busy, but got a table in the bar as it was just my wife and I. My wife got a Filet and a starter Ceasar. I got the Miso Salmon and a side of Coleslaw. The salads were both really good. The problems we ran into were in the main course. My wife's steak was supposed to be medium rare- but it was medium WELL. Hardly any pink at all. It's criminal to do that to a filet. As you'll see below, our server didn't really ask how our food was as he was running around, kind of ignoring us. The Salmon was a larger piece of fish than copper river gives, but it was grilled past grill marks to burned on a couple of sections. I ordered extra miso sauce with it, and our server said no problem, but didn't ring it in. I mentioned it to the expediter who said he would get it, but our server heard it and told him not to- that he would get it. Then, proceeded to go around check all his tables, stop and talk to the bartender, tell me he was getting it, check the tables again, tell me he was getting it again, finally went to the kitchen and got it. My food was close to cold by the time he came back with it. Normally it wouldnt be that big of a deal, but there wasn't much miso sauce on the plate either- which is why you get the miso Salmon! Otherwise it's just grilled salmon and rice. What could have easily been a 5 star meal ended up being a 3 star. Disappointed to say the least. Hopefully next time I can change my rating.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
The Cabernet Tenderloin Tips are soooo juicy. The sauce and mushrooms is what really compliments the dish. The sauce is robust and bold, perfect for both tenderloin and mushroom. The mashed potatoes are soft and not too salty, just right for this combo. The only thing that bothered me about the ambiance is the low light within the restaurant, it was incredibly annoying and seeing the food was actually difficult.
google avatar

Shayda A.

Yelp
this used to be one of my family's favorite spots. we loved the filet mignon here. it used to come incredibly tender, a good size, and wrapped in bacon. i ordered it last night and it was not the same at all. the quality of the meat was nothing like i was accustomed to eating here in the past. no longer wrapped in bacon. and you can longer order a baked potato as a side (which was our favorite). it's a bummer because we have been coming here for years but the quality of the food and the portions have definitely declined. i don't know if it's because they're opening new locations and trying to cut costs, or if they're just trying to survive crazy inflation, but it was very disappointing and i'm not sure we will be eating here anymore :(
google avatar

Maris B.

Yelp
Ordered the Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The Marsala sauce was so goey and overcooked it was inedible. The asparagus was mostly black. Not sure about other choices but definitely avoid this entree.
google avatar

Bourbon S.

Yelp
Chicken Lecture you spell wrap Steak bite wagyu beef slide Brussels sprouts Home made doughnut Watermelon margarita Supper cool ! Love it! Thank you Thank you so much to Oswego Grill for the surprise write card and ice cream ! You guys are the best!
google avatar

Keiki N.

Yelp
Took my Mom here for her birthday and everything we ordered was fantastic. The wagyu burger was great and the bun didn't get soggy and mushy, poke nachos had good sized chunks of tuna, and the stuffed salmon was fantastic. BIG shoutout to our server Jennifer, she was friendly and we had some good banter and gave great suggestions on what we should order.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Great food at a decent price- some of the friendliest waitstaff around. Atmosphere is just fancy enough to host events of any kind.
google avatar

Riss P.

Yelp
This place gets crowded! We had a 6pm reservation on a Thursday night and it was already crowded. Recommend make a reservation! I don't remember our server's name but she was excellent. We had to be at another planned event at 730pm , which we told her and she was able to get us served in no time! The food was very good. Especially the stuffed salmon and the homemade donuts!!! For sure will be back when I'm back in the Portland area.
google avatar

Senan D.

Yelp
It's not the most hip place, but you get your money's worth. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and the lot was very full, but inside, it was amazingly quiet. We could see others, but the vibe was very chill. Our waitress was super sweet and fast about getting us drinks and refills. If you have a gluten issue, as I do, your choices are slightly limited, but you'll still have some options. I got the Grill Chicken Cobb, and my friend got the Chop Salad. Both were huge and we had plenty of left overs. Nice place to go if you want a more mature and less hectic dining experience.
google avatar

Kent T.

Yelp
This my first time at this location. We sat in the bar to eat. The place was packed and didn't want to wait 25 minutes for a booth. The appetizers were excellent and plentiful. I decided to have the jambalaya and she enjoyed a nice beef pot pie. The lighting in the bar is a little dark.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Oswego Grill presents as a really expensive restaurant. No so. Only the food is as a really expensive restaurant. Always delicious and delivered in an efficient but friendly manner. The setting is mellow, comfortable , with a choice of tables, or booths that can comfortably accommodate any size party. This all comes together as a truly delightful dining experience.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
We made reservations for Sunday 2 pm lunch. It was very busy. Was not impressed with the service. My glass had 2 cracks in it and our server never check on us just brought the check. The food was below averaged. My grilled asparagus was cold and tough and my stuffed salmon was cold in the middle. The calamari was tough and Luke warm. Been here many time before and it was much better. Probably won't be back. Sad to see it decline.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
The bbq bacon cheese burger for lunch was amazing today! It was a special treat - no reason, just something I'd been craving. Got the salad as my side and it was just okay. Hubby got the sausage Mac and cheese. He loved it! We are still full and it's 11pm! No dinner for us tonight
google avatar

Randy D.

Yelp
Came here twice cause it was close to the hotel and a nice casual spot to eat dinner. First time I had the steak tips and mashed potato. Was good, a little different than than what I'm used to but still good. Tips were small but very tender and tasty. Second time I had the wild caught salmon and it was really good. We started with seared ahi tuna and that was also very good Service good.

JerriLyn K.

Yelp
We really enjoy eating at the Oswego Grill located in Lake Oswego. They have great food and wonderful wait staff whom are attentive to your needs. We also enjoy the ambiance this establishment provides.

Yelp
A well deserved 5 stars. Server was Jason. He's great. I ordered grilled wild Oregon salmon. Son ordered prime rib, and daughter in law ordered prime rib sandwich. All dishes were extraordinary. Prime rib sandwich is huge. Prime rib is also a good portion. All dishes were delicious. Atmosphere is elegant, yet casual. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Yelp
This review is for the Centerpointe location... I ordered a chicken caesar salad for lunch, but it came with a dead ladybug in the salad. Sadly, I had already eaten half of the salad, but thankfully I saw the dead bug before I put that particular bite in my mouth. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Great service from the hostess to finish. I asked if it was a possibility to get in and out in an hour because we had a business time crunch and they said yes, mentioning a couple menu items that take longer which is much appreciated, sat us in less than 5 minutes. It was busy but we had service promptly and they acknowledged that we were in a time crunch. We thought the food was terrific. The fried chicken was juicy, mashed potatoes had skins. I'm not sure what meat was in the gravy on the side. Ham maybe. The coleslaw was exceptional in my opinion. My husband said his roast beef dip was great. I would definitely come back the very next time in the area. I want to try the baked brie and charcuterie board. Regrets for not ordering one to-go for later.

Yelp
Came here from out of town. The service was good. The server tried her best. The kitchen failed her when they sent out an order of Brussel sprouts that were specifically ordered for a person with daily allergies.(personally didn't effect me, all I know is they were sent back) My prime rib dinner was awful. It was cold and super tough. I ate about 5 bites before I was done. The mashed potatoes were luke warm at best. Another person ordered the prime rib sandwiche and it looked about the same. They did not finish it either. All in all the server tried but it's a losing battle when the kitchen does not do it's part.
