"A charming kappo on the banks of the Takase River. The chef’s aim is to create a restaurant that he himself would frequent, so let’s peruse the menu and gauge his tastes. His strong points are the inventiveness and patience he pours into his creations, such as salad dressed with heshiko (mackerel pickled in rice-bran paste). A native of Toyama, the chef serves seafood from Toyama Bay. Items such as firefly squid, glass shrimp and buri arrive in season. And don’t forget the regional sakes." - Michelin Inspector

We love this place! We had dinner here for Sonia’s 50th birthday and it was the perfect for a special occasion. The service was impeccable and the waitress explained every course to us in. Sonia speaks a little Japanese, but the waitress spoke English well. We had both the fish and wagyu beef set menus. Each course was so well presented, delicious and got better and better. Thank you, this was best meal we had while travelling to Japan and we had lots of great food!

Very nice, relatively affordable kaiseki meal. Staff is kind and attentive. Get a seat at the counter if you can, so you can watch the chef work.

We were late for 30 minutes, the owner was very kind and our table still available. Total 9 dishes all very delicious and tasty. The dessert was also excellent. We had a pleasant night. Highly recommend to those who wants to try a real Kyoto omakase.

Easily one of the most delicious, fresh meals we've had in our entire lives. We left blown away at Otaya's attention to detail and kindness, so we booked a reservation for the very next night. Incredible!

I had a wonderful dinner here this evening. The food was both inventive and delicious, complemented by the friendly service. I'm so glad I finally had the chance to try it after passing by on my last trip to Kyoto.

Outstanding from top to bottom, clearly a culinary experience to be savored and that will be remembered. I had the omakase and two others had a la carte and we shared everything. The best dining experience I have had.

This intimate Japanese restaurant serves one of the finest Kyoto-style cuisine that is featured on the Michelin Guide. Owner-chef Shuichiro Otaya-san uses freshest seasonal ingredients from around the area and delicately and expertly transforming them into amazing, mouth-watering small dishes. It was impossible for me to pick my favorite as they all tasted divine. Services were impeccable and attentive, as I am allergic to crab, they quickly created another welcome dish for me. The small cozy restaurant is located right next to the Takase River, with simple traditional decoration and yet with a sophisticated ambiance. Reservation is a must as there were limited seats.

Lovely restaurant, great food, lovely atmosphere. We did not work through the menu but simply let the restaurant assemble for us a 5 course menu, avoiding meat but including fish. The result was a harmonious meal, served with great love and care. Thank you!
