A small but impeccably curated and maintained museum dedicated to "The King of Soul", Mr. Otis Redding. Note: The museum might not be staffed. Ring the doorbell and someone will come over from the Otis Redding Center for the Arts.

I was visiting Macon on a business trip and was visiting various museums. When I attempted to visit, the museum was closed although the business hours were posted to open at 12:00. I waited until 12:15 and left.

I feel so sorry for you people have to be right next to that restaurant that is the most ungodly in nastiest people that anyone could ever meet the alleyway next to where the restaurant is nasty smelling because of them and the people at the restaurant right next to your place it's so disrespectful to these people they have vehicles parking in the parking spot just for use I really love the song sitting by the Dock of the Bay I'll use people are the nicest and most polite in Swedish people that I've had the pleasure of meeting in Macon Georgia

Lovely, quaint, space dedicated to an enormously impactful talent. The exhibit of memorabilia affords one a peek into what can only be imagined as a life rich with soul. I'm glad that we visited. However, we are neither inclined to return nor make recommendations to others. While the young lady behind the counter was quite pleasant and graceful (we thank you), the male was rather rude. As my husband and I were chatting, he interjected with unsolicited information, in passing while chewing open mouth. Speaking with food in your mouth is disgusting enough, but combined with an attitude just leaves so much more to be desired. Not only was his insertion unsolicited, but it was off the mark. Although he eavesdropped, he didn't do so well enough to understand the full context of the conversation between spouses...he inserted himself in a hyperbolic conversation and did so with great indignation. Though we are sticklers for manners, we chose to let this slide. Then came the second insult. After reading an exhibit, we asked the young lady for more information on it. Not being certain of the background, she deferred to the male who (through exasperated breath) recited an abridged version of the documents' content. Simply repeating the words we just read. Once we pointed out our ability to comprehend what we read, we repeated the question. As expected, his response was incensingly curt. The experience was off-putting, to say the least.

A wonderful museum! Karla was such a great host and answered all of our questions. You can’t take pictures inside, but there is plenty of memorabilia to see and reminisce about.

Yelp
An absolute must-stop if you're in downtown Macon! If you've never heard of Otis Redding, do yourself a favor and queue up "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," "These Arms of Mine," or "Satisfaction" and just feel that soul. Otis was the voice of a generation--smooth, powerful, and heartbreakingly timeless. Otis Redding embodied the spirit of a legendary musical era rooted in Macon--a time of raw soul, grit, and unforgettable sound. His influence on music is undeniable, and this museum is a heartfelt tribute to a life and legacy gone too soon. At just 26, Otis had already made a lasting mark as a gifted vocalist, songwriter, and relentless dream-chaser. The museum gives you a glimpse into that magic: family photos, memorabilia, music, and stories that bring him back to life in the most touching way. It doesn't take long to walk through, but the experience stays with you. And if you're lucky, you might just meet his wife or grandson--still actively involved in keeping his legacy alive. His family's connection to the community is just as moving as the music itself. Don't miss it. Totally worth the detour--and then some.
