青山Ototo（青山おとと）

This was a really delicious dinner. I ordered the appetizer set, grilled oyster, sashimi set, black cod miso, and the rice. Everything was delicious and clearly prepared with precision and dedication. The appetizer set was very unique and I can’t recall exactly what I had but everything was good, some great. The oyster was very good. The sashimi set had great variety (tuna, chutoro tuna, shrimp, mackerel, flounder, uni, I think that was all). All very fresh and delicious. The black cod miso was the standout for me. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the flavours were very well balanced. Absolute perfection. Also you must order the rice, top tier. Overall 10/10 dinner that I’d highly recommend. The staff was very friendly and the Chef was very friendly and passionate. Will definitely be back here!

Everything about our dinner at Ototo was amazing! 🤩 all of the dishes we had were delicious, the chefs and staff were friendly and able to converse in English (we are from Singapore), and the atmosphere was homely and cozy. We especially enjoyed the black cod and chazuke. We had never tasted rice this good 🍚👍🏻 We will definitely be back! ☺️

This was one of our best meals in Tokyo! We had counter seats so were able to see the chefs prepping and cooking. We had the set course dinner menu, everything was absolutely delicious. The grilled fish and braised fish dishes were expertly cooked. The service was friendly, highly recommend!

The best grilled salmon I’ve had in a looong time. The king salmon is really juicy and the skin is tiptop crispy, almost having the texture of Korean seaweed snacks, lol. However, consistency is an issue because if you happen to get an end piece, only one of the two pieces would have the lovely mi cuit colour and texture in the middle. To be fair, the chef splits the tail between two customers, so you never get two suboptimal pieces, but still… The seasoning is also slightly too salty for me, but that’s more personal preference than criticism 🙃. The restaurant also gets really smoky, so clothes beware. Will come back for their gindara saikyoyaki, that should be a less salty option!

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. Although we have the say the salmon was mediocre, the other choices (yellow tail and cod) were delightful. The miso soup was fantastic to add on, and the side dishes paired nicely with the fish. Will be back!

Really loved the food. The fish were so flavorful. The rice is cooked nicely. The ambiance is also great. Service was good. Over all, the restaurant is perfect.

Simply the best in Tokyo. One look at the empty bowls and plates says it all - The staff were amazed by how big our appetite was! Almost don’t want to tell my friends about this place - otherwise I might never make it through the queue next time 😄

We made pre-paid reservations two days in advance for the 8:00 p.m. Omakase on Friday. Honestly, we were a bit nervous about our choice since we’d had a disappointing dinner the night before at another Michelin-recommended spot that didn’t live up to the hype. But this place completely turned things around. We showed up 30 minutes early and were warmly welcomed and immediately seated at the counter. The head chef and his team were super friendly, made a real effort to speak English, and even joked around with us throughout the night. The food was absolutely outstanding—each course was beautifully presented and full of flavor. We got to chat with the 32-year-old head chef, who was not only clearly talented but also humble and genuine. At the end of the night, he even walked us to the door, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. The vibe was just right for a date night—cozy, calm, and welcoming without being too quiet or too formal. Out of all the meals we had during our trip to Japan, this was hands down our favorite dinner. Amazing food, warm service, and a really special atmosphere. Would definitely come back on our next trip—highly recommend experiencing the Omakase, or dining here in general.
