I spent a week, living at the hotel across the street from Otra Vez. Only once, on a Saturday did I venture into this establishment for breakfast.
I spent a mildly annoying amount of time waiting to be seated, as the servers walked past me. The restaurant is almost full. Except for a couple of tables. But it's not a huge restaurant. Maybe 20 tables.
There are breakfast style cocktails served here. (bloody Mary's, mimosas, Mexican coffee) and a selection of beers. But I did not order any. I just wanted breakfast. The black drip coffee is good quality. I have a tendency to pre judge a restaurant based on the coffee they serve. Folgers or Farmer brothers coffee usually means mediocre food.
The menu is small. This is a breakfast only restaurant. I ordered the rancheros with chorizo and a side of hot salsa. From the second the food arrived, I immediately wished I had ordered a breakfast cocktail. The smell of the food and the appearance of it immediately put me in a "let's get this party started", mood. A base of grilled potatoes with a fresh tostada shell sitting above. Topped with beans, chorizo, eggs, Pico de gallo and sliced avocado. Although I must admit, I hardly noticed the beans and there was also supposed to be Chipotle on this dish. If it was there, it was very mild.
Doesn't matter, it tasted excellent! There was a selection of hot sauces on the table, but I didn't use any of them. I only used the additional salsa that I ordered. This was probably the best huevo's rancheros that I've ever eaten.
The meal set me back $22.84, not including tip. I'll definitely stop by here again to sample the rest of their menu.
I guess my only complaint is that the chairs at the tables are not big back friendly. Luckily, my food did not take long to arrive or else. I would have become uncomfortable sitting in that chair.
