The Best Restaurants in Portland’s West Hills | Eater Portland

"A piece of Bavaria inside Portland, Otto & Anita’s offers eight different types of schnitzel alongside bratwurst, dill pickle soup, and other German classics. Make sure to save room for one of Anita’s desserts at the end of the meal, which includes tiramisu, cobbler, apple strudel, and lemon cake. Hand-painted walls, red-clothed tables, and an overall cottagecore vibe complete the picture." - Rebecca Roland

The Best Underrated, Hidden Gem Restaurants in Portland | Eater Portland

"Decked out in elaborate murals of European landscapes, this cutesy Multnomah Village restaurant has been a family dinner standby for decades. Often known as Otto & Anita’s Schnitzelhaus, the restaurant is well known in the area for its array of schnitzel, as well as its creamy, tangy dill pickle soup. Many finish meals with one of the house-made pastries, which evoke images of a 1950s bake sale in the best way." - Eater Staff

Wow honestly blown away at how great this was. The dill pickle soup is a must if you come here! Free warm bread with homemade butter was great. I suggest getting the Kaiserschnitzel as a main dish. Service was also wonderful. I had zero complaints

This place is great! The food was unbelievably good! And it was very reasonably priced, with great service and quickly served food! The restaurant had old-world atmosphere and a large selection of baked goods. Also the dark beer was awesome, so I'massumingthe others were good as well! The parking is tight, but that seems the case for many places in the area. I would recommend to all my friends!

This is the place for every type of schnitzel! I'd endorse the schnitzel sandwich and the blackened salmon salad. Definitely try a cup of the dill pickle soup!

This is the closest thing to true home cooking you’ll find. Everything was made to order with fresh and quality ingredients. “Cooking with love” is tasted here at it’s made known with every bite. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time!

I got the riesenschnitzel. It was delicious. Anita does all the baking here and she's amazing, so make sure to save room for dessert, or take something home with you. I got the black forest cake, but sadly forgot to take a picture of it.

Our friends recommended Anita and Otto’s for dinner. I have never enjoyed German food as much as this experience. From the fresh made rolls to the entree and dessert to go plate, this restaurant experience was truly joyful. The creamy dill pickle soup comes with specials and is oddly addictive and delicious! Everything was beautifully prepared, fresh, and scrumptious. Matt took great care of us and sang happy birthday in German to three separate guests that evening. Street parking is limited but in the evening you can park in nearby parking lots. Anita and Otto’s is well known and has a following of steady and new clientele. It’s small but had room for small parties and couples. I would recommend a reservation. My husband and I look forward to returning and trying other menu items. Thank you!

My first visit was this last weekend. There are not many options for German cuisine in the area, but even if there were, this would probably still be the best option. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Our server was the best I have seen in years (and we dine out often). My only regret is I don't live closer. Can't wait to go again

Went here with a class from PCC, the service was very professional and organized. Beautiful paintings on the walls and a really nice feel to it. The only complaint I can think of is that it is literally impossible to find vegan options. I couldn't find a single food or dessert item that was vegan. If you are a fan of meat and wine, and have a huge sweet tooth for desserts, this is the place to go. Probably the most authentic German food I have ever found.
