The Best Local Drive-Thru Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"In a city where Vietnamese eats reign supreme, it is only fitting that Houstonians are able to stock up on summer rolls and banh mi sandwiches by way of a drive-thru window. At Oui Banh Mi, order heaping vermicelli bowls topped with fragrant herbs, piping hot pho noodle soup, or rice with chargrilled beef and fish sauce." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
Not very busy when i was there. Spring rolls were not rolled very well, had very little ingredients. Asked for no peanuts and they put them. Lettuce in spring rolls were starting to turn bad .Glad I'm not allergic. Fried spring rolls came to table warm, very little filling. Food came out fast though lol Wouldn't return . Place was clean except for the first 2 different tables I sat at which were very sticky

Google
very cozy place and for almost $5 a banh mi its a steal, but the portions are light. their was no pate or butter on our banh mis which was very disappointing and the spring rolls were loosely wrapped with light portions. the food was decent and good if you want something cheap, but i can find better quality somewhere else.

Google
Oui Bahn Mi is one of my go-to’s! My partner, co-workers and myself go very often (usually once a week) for lunch. I always get the tofu bahn mi and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The tofu is cooked perfect and the bread is soft and fresh. My job is very chaotic so coming here on my break is lovely because the atmosphere is very chill and relaxing(the owner Lynn plays a lot of great music)! Lynn is always so sweet and such a hard worker! If the weather is nice I definitely recommend getting your lunch to go and sitting at one of the picnic tables at the neighboring Mandell Park!

Google
Best banh mi in the city hands down. Got the egg classic. Taste soooo good. Hit the spot. Also the ladies are super nice and helpful. I've been wanting to check this place out for so long, very happy I did. They also have a drive thru! Lovely all around. Definitely go try it out.

We paid a visit to Oui Banh Mi and had some great food and service. My wife got the pho ga, chicken and noodle soup, she enjoyed it, it needed a little salt, she brought some leftovers home. We shared an order of cha gio, Vietnamese fried mini eggrolls with fish sauce. The eggrolls came with a plate of veggies like cucumber and lettuce and fresh herbs. I enjoyed an iced Vietnamese coffee and a large beef banh mi with a fried egg. My wife had a can of diet coke over ice.

Google
I would not recommend this place. you order using a kiosk inside. there were no menus to look at on the wall or printed out if you were waiting to use the kiosk. the food wasn’t that good. the best part of the banh mi was the bread. the pork was too sweet and overly sauced. there was barely any pate or mayo. cilantro seemed thin too. the spring rolls were loosely wrapped and 90% lettuce. one of the water cups had a crack in it, which leaked all over our table. we threw that cup away it wasn’t busy inside and I can see why if I ever have a banh mi craving again, I’m willing to drive further for one

Google
I’m sad to say this, but this was probably the worst banh mi I’ve had. The bread was soft yet tough…go figure. It was fighting me as I ate it! The meat is good but there was little to no butter/pate which was disappointing when considering the cost. Also, I asked for my jalapeño on the side and they gave me a sliver of one—honestly, it was quite funny 🤣

Google
I had an amazing experience at Oui Banh Mi in Montrose! The food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. What really made my visit stand out was the exceptional service from Carlos and Alba. They were both so friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making sure everything was perfect. Carlos and Alba went above and beyond to make me feel at home, and their positive energy made my meal even better. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great Vietnamese food and outstanding service. Thank you, Carlos and Alba, for making my visit so memorable!

Yelp
I love this place. I frequent this establishment often for my quick lunch between meetings as it's 10 minutes walk from me. The service is fast. Once I order it from my phone, it'll be ready when I arrive for pick up. The establishment now has seating indoors - it's casual and no fuss. They also have a drive-through if that's your style. I love the value of the food. The food is often delicious and always filling. I often get the spring rolls because it's fresh. The all meat pho P1 is my favourite because I like to eat a variety of beef parts in my noodles. The broken rice is good too.

Yelp
Ordered door dash to be delivered to a long day of work today. Ordered phone dac biet, banh mi meat ball, spring rolls, and iced coffee. Upon DD delivery, first I noticed my coffee was missing. May be DD fault or restaurant. At this point I'm thinking it's the restaurant. Went to lunch and opened up the banh mi first, it wasn't meat balls like I ordered. It was nem nuong. Awhile later, had spring rolls for a little snack, which was the saddest spring rolls I've ever had. Loosely wrapped, a couple strings of vermicelli, 1 whole shrimp (halves), and lots of lettuce. Got home to share my pho with my kids, and as soon as I opened up the noodles in the bowl to heat up, there were signs of blood on the noodles. They probably overlooked the note,l to cook the meat first, they then placed raw meat on noodles, noticed note after and decided to pack up the noodles with blood on it. Veggies were at bottom, so by the time I tried to eat it, bean sprouts, mint, and cilantro were all mushy. Meats and veggies should be packed in separate bags. The broth doesn't even taste like pho. Maybe more like a wonton soup broth. Overall, verryyyyyy disappointing experience from this establishment. I hope they're not always serving this type of food to their customers and just hoping it's a one time thing. But I sure hope their customers would know the differences between good Vietnamese food, and this... NOT VIETNAMESE food.

Yelp
They weren't accepting people to enter the establishment and we had to order outside. We also had to eat in the car because they didn't open up the restaurant for customers. When I asked the difference between summer rolls and spring rolls the girl told me one has 3 and the other one has 2.... Ummm that didn't sound right. So I tried to ask the question again and I tried to ask it a different way. Finally she said how they are different. So I went with the spring roll with a tone of lettuce and little noodles. The sandwich had hard bread very little meat, as you can see in my pick. I didn't finish my sandwich and just threw 1/4 of it away. I might try other foods here if I was in the neighborhood, but I am not running back anytime soon. Sorry, this is a hard pass.

Yelp
Disappointed is an understatement... as a Vietnamese, I've had many banh Mis from all over and I'm shocked that they passed this off as something good to serve to customers. The price point is great at $5 a banh mi ( comparable to Chinatown prices but in the loop ) but I rather pay a little extra to be happy with my sandwich. The meat to bread ratio was incredibly off. It was the saddest sandwich I have ever opened. My chargrilled pork banh mi had barely any meat... there were barely any vegetables as well. I had to take a couple of bites before I reached any filling as it was entirely just bread for the majority of it. The taste was promising if this establishment makes a major change to make their sandwiches more filling.

Yelp
The food is delicious and very quick and convenient. I love stopping by the drive thru for an easy meal. The staff have always been friendly too!

Atlas H.

Yelp
the people working were very lovely :) the place is small but cute and clean! and the spring rolls were very good 8/10 the pho was ok but for the price i give it 6/10 i would come back!

Yelp
I ordered from here because it was cheaper than most other bahn mi places and the age old trope holds true. You get what you pay for. I ordered through Uber eats And got bogo free chicken dumplings ($5.95 each order of 6). Probably the best item I tried but still not that great. I prefer the frozen out stickers as these (like all of their food) was too salty). I didn't even use the soy sauce but they were warm. The "chargrilled" chicken bahn mi ($4.75 I think) was just soaked in teriyaki sauce. There were big chuncks of chicken but again way too salty and not chargrilled. Otherwise it was a typical bahn mi but the teriyaki over powered and m it was not good. I also got the rice paper spring rolls. They're mostly lettuce and one roll had no noodles in it. The dip was good but barely enough for the two wraps. All in all would not order again. Splurge for a better spot.

Yelp
Food was good however the workers forgot to put my egg roll in with my to go box. Thanks for mixing with my displacement in this storm.

Yelp
My initial draw to Oui Banh Mi was their drive thru, which similarly to Lee's on Bellaire (#1), is a rarity for any Vietnamese based restaurant in Houston. After a number of visits with average experiences, I'm convinced their food is solid in a pinch, but not exactly a go-to option. Given that a good volume of their business is takeout, they've been an ideal pandemic type restaurant. Seating is minimal on the inside, but there's a few booth type areas for those who want to dine in. They seem quite modern overall with a sleek menu and fun mural to boot. The food is a mixed bag. One could argue that it's watered down and/or a tad gringo'y, but it lives to serve the neighborhood. Their namesake banh mi has been the least appealing thing on their menu since the bread was stale and the portions were paltry at best. I've tried their signature chargrilled pork and pate, which had very little of both. The first time I thought it was a mistake but the subsequent visits of skimpy sandwiches made me think otherwise. I think a better route has been their vermicelli noodles, particularly with chicken and egg rolls. The fish sauce isn't that potent, but it is definitely sweet. I do think their Vietnamese iced coffee is a clear winner and the pho should probably be avoided at all costs. Spring rolls are also a gamble at times, since the wrapping isn't always tight, resulting in a limp roll or one that's constantly falling apart. Service has also been a mixed bag. Minus the occasional order snafu, I find the service really depends who's at the counter. The awkward times of ordering in Viet has been met with a bit of pushback, to the point where my party and I stopped saying banh mi all together. Their prices are good for the area and I think the fact they use the Coco mini-robot delivery machines are cool. I don't think I'd completely say no to Oui, but I'm definitely saying peut être (#2) ____________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/lees-sandwiches-houston (#2) Maybe, perhaps.

Yelp
I've been frequenting Oui Banh Mi since I moved to Houston 4+ years ago. I have sat in the drive thru with one car in front of me for 40 minutes, I have been given the wrong order with my name on it only to realize it when I got home, Ive ordered ahead only to have to wait 30 more minutes waiting at the store, I've been served what tasted like very sour Vietnamese coffee and undercooked meat... the list goes on. Last night I ordered via DoorDash about an hour before closing (like a fool). It took them 30 minutes to accept the order on their tablet and when I finally received it, I was missing 2 items, my coffee tasted like soap and my banh mi sandwich tasted funny and almost undercooked. I have been sick all morning with immense stomach pains. I've tried to give them so many chances, like maybe I caught them on an off day. I never write reviews as I work in the service industry and know how biased reviews can be; but I can't do it any more. I truly don't understand how horribly inconsistent this place can be. I won't be back and will be notifying them and the health department, as something was seriously wrong with my order and made me violently ill. Ordering an hour before close is reasonable yet the whole order felt really rushed and slapped together with minimal care, given my missing items. Good luck to those who choose to order from this place.

Yelp
Service is slow here. You were warned. BUT you come for a great deal. The Grilled Pork Banh Mi with Pâté is the way to go. For $4 it is a good sandwich. It's unassuming and perhaps looks lacking in meat, but it's flavorful enough to make up for it. Is it smaller than others? Yes. But it's $4. Drive thru is slow. You're probably better off parking and ordering at the window. Unless you can't part with the glorious AC blasting in your car.

Yelp
The food was affordable and good! Ordered out, quick service, came in and out. They were quick and the food is good.

Yelp
Our son and daughter-in-law love this place so we've gotten delivery from here twice. I think the fact that they do banh mis and pho puts them on our list, lots of Viet places do one or the other and our group needs both categories. The banh mi grilled bbq pork is good but the bread is usually kind of stale and extra meat and a fried egg still leaves uncovered bread. My wife has tried the beef and chicken soups, she preferred the chicken. The egg rolls were good and the dumplings were good. We got extra meat for some sammys and extra veggies for one.

Alejandra M.

Yelp
This cute little unassuming place is a hidden gem in Houston. I always order the small sized S1 (I love it too much to stray from it). It's $4.87 for a footlong sandwich. READ THAT AGAIN. I don't know how they get their pork to taste so good--it's tangy and tender, I wish I could eat spoonfuls of it. The veggies and bread are always fresh. I'm surprised the other reviews on here are not 4-5 stars...Maybe because they're a year old. Highly recommend.

Al C.

Yelp
This is our "go to" Vietnamese/French restaurant! The food is fresh and the customer service is always great! We live in Ft. Bend County but make the drive to Oui Banh Mi despite their being other Vietnamese places near our home. Won't go to any other restaurant unless we're out of town!

John Mark M.

Yelp
Great place for affordable eats! Wish they were a little quicker, I would suggest ordering ahead.
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
This is just not a banh mi. This place skimps on ingredients. Let's just say they add enough ingredients so you can call it a "banh mi" but it's not a banh mi. The bread is far below-average quality and was rather stale. It wasn't even toasted! Will not come back for whatever this is. There is a drive through so it's convenient to order. Additionally there's a walk up to place your order and receive it. There's no seating area on either inside or out.
google avatar

Adam H.

Yelp
Consistent with a lot of the other reviews. Dining room is not open until they can open up to 100% capacity.in the meantime they have a walk up window. The charred beef banh mi was okay. Lacking the flavor you would expect. The packaging and restaurant is very aesthetically focused. Also they don't give out water here. You need to buy a bottle. There is a really nice park next to it! Definitely recommend going there and enjoying your meal!!!

paul p.

Yelp
Currently my favorite Bánh Mi in Houston. Prepared fresh so order ahead if possible though worth the wait.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
I got the tofu banh mi and it was great! Sure I've had better tofu banh mi's but for $4.00?? I really wanted to try the rock n' roll beef option but they were out of stock which was a bummer. We waited for like 10 minutes for our food so everything was quick. I love the order up window or drive thru vibe always but If you like to sit and eat this wasn't an option here. Tofu Sandwich
google avatar

Ross M.

Yelp
Got a pork Bahn Mi and spring rolls. Bahn Mi was ok, pork was cold in the 5 minutes it took to drive home, mayo was nonexistent, and jalapeno had no seeds. Spring rolls were ok, nothing exceptional. Next time, I'll just drive to Bellaire and get a Bahn Mi from Don's instead.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Fantastic little Viet eatery with a super convenient drive thru option! The grilled pork with vermicelli is packed to the brim as you can see with this to-go box. The meat was very flavorful, the cucumbers crisp and fresh, and vermicelli texture just right. I found my order to be very filling and not too bad on the wallet!
google avatar

Hilary H.

Yelp
I still love Oui Banh Mi and will keep coming back, but service has been on a bit of a decline recently. I absolutely love the drive-thru and when they get your order right it really is wonderful. But that's the crux of the issue here, I probably only have a 100% correct order 15% of the time. Odds that the order will be correct goes up when the owner is working, but even then it isn't unusual for a little something to be wrong when she is there (maybe I ask for something to not be on the sandwich and it is on the finished product regardless, not a big deal since I can just take it off myself usually.) There have unfortunately been several visits lately where perhaps an entire banh mi or order of egg rolls has been completely omitted despite me both ordering and paying for them. The first time it happened I was bummed but let it slide because I didn't have the time to deal with it, the second and third times I tried calling the business, but their number did not work for me either of those times. As for ambiance, which I only include because Yelp wants me to, there is no ambiance to speak of. The inside of the store has been closed off to diners since 2020. The ambiance before Covid was nice and simple. I look forward to a day in the future wherein we can experience it again, but for now I don't mind that we aren't able to go inside.
google avatar

Autumn S.

Yelp
Ordered two bowls of pho with tofu and one order of shrimp spring rolls from here through Uber Eats for my boyfriend and myself. Firstly, the spring rolls were floppy and loose and fell apart as soon as we bit into them. The pho was even worse. The vegetables and herbs weren't kept in a separate container or bag like every other pho restaurant I've ordered from; the basil and cilantro were placed UNDER the hot noodles, wilting them and severely impacting their freshness and flavor. On top of this there were no bean sprouts, limes, jalapeños, or sauces to go with the soup, which is also standard in every other place I've ordered from. The quality and preparation of this food was so subpar I was honestly shocked. Won't ever be ordering from this place again!
google avatar

Krista H.

Yelp
I have heard that this place is good. I went through the drive thru for a late lunch today. My bbq pork bahn mi was delicious & cheap. The bread is a little bigger than I'd like, but the complaints about not enough filling are exaggerated. For less than $5, this is way better than subway.

Kayla M.

Yelp
Food is nasty and the whole staff attitude even nastier. poor customer service. My order was incorrect and had a hair in it. When asked I asked for a manager the young lady had an attitude and the manger took over 10 minutes to come there Was no customers so idk what the hold up was, but i left and will ever go back.
google avatar

Melodi D.

Yelp
Not the best Vietnamese food in the world but really good for the price/convenience it offers! Whenever I'm craving a quick bowl of pho, I'll drive over to Oui Banh Mi to pick one up. One thing that annoys me a lot though is that they charge extra for packets of hoisin sauce/sriracha.

Amy D.

Yelp
The worst banh mi i've ever had. Got the special and they forgot my pate. The bread was not giving and there was barely any meat. I can make a better banh mi with my hands tied. Very disappointed
google avatar

Louise C.

Yelp
THERE WAS A COCKROACH IN MY SANDWICH (see pic)!!!!!!!! As I was 3/4 done with eating the chargrilled pork banh mi sandwich, I looked down and saw a COCKROACH MIXED IN WITH THE PORK. This is literally every person's worst nightmare. I come to this place all the time for that sandwich. I am absolutely revolted to say the very least. DO NOT EAT HERE.
google avatar

C.E. K.

Yelp
Consistent reviews. Total thieves. I ordered TWO double meat, double veggie #2s for 17$ with chips. I did this knowing that if I wanted a double meat double veggie I would have to ask for two doubles with extra, just to make one sandwich. done. I'll go out 59 until les grival comes back. I don't review negatively during covid, but this is what they do. see pics for how to get a half a sandwich from a double, double

Victoria L.

Yelp
Not bad but annoying to eat cause it falls apart and it's not difficult to roll and I ordered After lunch hour. Feels like Cause its delivery they just slapped it together. Pho is paaaable for delivery but no side herbs (2 stars) _ herbs included spoiled, no bean sprouts, mint, etc. Cilantro also brown All that said it's "decent" for "delivery" But there's plenty better VN21 for deliver Pho Vn 21 (713) 663-7879 https://maps.app.goo.gl/tNBGq8xBroxvdGcp7

Yelp
Food is only okay but they constantly run out of ingredients. The owner lady is curt to the point of rudeness. Obviously she's unhappy working there.

Blessing A.

Yelp
Customer service was trash. Food was mediocre. Ordered two banh mis one with pate and one without.... There was no difference in appearance and taste. Honestly the worst banh mi I've ever had. Ordered a rice bowl and it was just blandness. Not worth it.

Sumie M.

Yelp
I'm super disappointed with my order. Very little chicken on the bahn mi and the spring roll veggies were slightly brown and the cilantro was brown. Makes me so sad! I loved the Milam location which is now closed.

Kai M.

Yelp
the only place in the 6-10 loop that has quick, yummy, and affordable bahn mi!! honestly as an asian, im tired of vietnamese places in the US overcharging and changing recipes. 10/10!! worth it.

Daniela L.

Yelp
The Asian skinny old lady with white hair was rude, customer service sucks and the fill Vietnamese coffee 3/4. Plus they want to charge extra .50 cents for a little package of siracha.
google avatar

Maryann L.

Yelp
Quite unremarkable. The soup was flavorless, very little fresh green and sprouts. The chicken was tough as nails like it had been boiled way too long. The vietnamese rolls we tasty and the sauce was good, but the rolls very loosely wrapped, and when the contents fell out I found brown ends on the lettuce stems ( not even leaf) and the whole thing was hard to eat because it deconstructed itself. IMO the quality has gone way down since I was here 6 months ago.
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place a 0/5 stars because what I received was an insult to sandwiches and Vietnamese culture. I ordered the chargrilled beef banh mi with egg rolls, and overall was very disappointed with the outcome. The french bread was very tough, and difficult to bite into, and there was hardly any beef inside. The egg rolls were slightly better in comparison, but they were still very overcooked. The only positive thing they have going for them is that there is a drive thru.

Karina G.

Yelp
My husband and I googled food close to us. We found Oui Banh Mi the food was so delicious. They were super friendly and we went through the drive through. I definitely would go here again for their Banh Mi we tried three different kinds and got spring rolls.

Tanya S.

Yelp
Gave this place another shot and definitely saw an improvement. Although the bread was soggy from the BBQ pork, the few veggies I got were fresh. Service and quality are still hit or miss if owner isn't there.
google avatar

Jo K.

Yelp
Ordered Chargrilled BBQ Pork and Pate Sandwich, Double Meat Shredded Chicken Sandwich, Chargrilled Beef Sandwich and bought Dimsum since they do have a promo that time. The Sandwiches were filling and tasted good. You can request if you want it spicy. The portion size is good for 1 person for 1 sandwich. Oui Banh Mi only offers take out/ to go orders. There's a beautiful park next to the store where you can eat.

steven c.

Yelp
This place is great. Good food for a low price, and they are always very nice to my dog and give him a treat when I go get a sandwich. The Banh mi sandwiches and iced coffees are great.
google avatar

Narissa C.

Yelp
I used to really liked grabbing a pick up to go Banh Mi from this place. The workers seem super nice and the food was cost efficient but after having some food quality issues I decided to look up their inspection rating on a whim to make sure it was a place I wanted to keep going to and I will never come here again. All Houston Health inspections are public and I highly suggest you looking it up before you go... the reviewer that found the roach was def not making it up :(

Jonathan J.

Yelp
Too inconsistent. Sometimes the spring rolls are fresh and great and sometimes they feel like they were made a couple days ago. Sometimes the bread is toasted on the sandwich, and sometimes it taste like it was just pulled out of a bag with no toasting. When things are good, it's probably a 4 star restaurant, but it's a 50/50 chance if it'll be good or bad on any certain day. When things are bad, it doesn't even deserve 1 star, might be worst banh mi in houston on their bad days.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Terrible service. Took almost 30 minutes to get food through the drive through even though multiple walk up patrons received their orders before me. No apology for the wait or explanation. Absolutely ridiculous. Won't return.

Tara H.

Yelp
Reasonably priced to go Vietnamese joint for the neighborhood. The banh mi and pho options are all solid, but my favorite dishes here are probably the grilled pork vermicelli and the summer rolls with Chinese sausage and crispy shallots.

Abby G.

Yelp
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE I placed an online order from here and not only did they take an additional 20 min after the the pick up time to provide me with my order. But the staff was RUDE and almost didn't provide me with all the items I paid for. When I asked where the missing item was they asked "is it on the the ticket?" WHEN IT WAS and HAS been for the almost FULL hour they had my order ticket. FURTHERMORE I was charged TWICE for my order. When I called they kept giving me the run around and told me to call back the next day and ask for Mr.Lee. When I did that I got a hold of a very EXTREMELY RUDE Man who said it's not his problem that I was charged twice and that he is short handed and the only working there to provide me the refund. And that he can't run the restaurant and provide me a refund. ONE OF THE MOST STUPIDEST THINGS IVE EVER HEARD. I told him this was absurd and that I'm following the instructions provided to me to get my refund. HE SAID that he can't and that if I knew anything I would know that in restaurant business it's busy at 11-3 and that he doesn't know a Mr. Lee. And can't help me. I ASKED what on earth does the rush hour have to do with my request and if I needed to go to the restaurant to get my refund. This ASSHOLE says "we're not going to move the restaurant because we owe you a refund" WHAT KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT??? HE THEN HUNG UP ON ME. So I called again and another person answered which is strange because the first person I spoke with said that he was alone. Who told me they already processed my refund and he's not sure how long it will take. HOW HARD WAS IT TO SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?!! THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER PLACES NEAR BY. GO THERE INSTEAD OF SUPPORTING THIS POS PLACE Shitty food shitty service

Cynthia T.

Yelp
The food has taken a nose dive-- wilted and brown lettuce in my vermicelli. Plus they ask for tips at the window! Tips for what? The drive through is NOT table service. There are no waitresses, bus boys or dishwashers. The place is a nasty rip off.

Alex M.

Yelp
The shredded chicken Banh mi was good. Very small but good for the price. The pho is flavorless! Plus they put jalapeño and vinegar in it. The chicken also tastes as if it had been refrigerated for days. My first and last time here.
google avatar

Eden S.

Yelp
The good thing about this place is the drive thru. Especially with Covid being a thing it's nice to just drive thru and get something better than fast food. I came here a year or so ago and was disappointed by the food, but decided to give it another shot. Same experience both times. My spring roll completely fell apart with the rice paper just ripping completely. My boyfriend said it was the worst pho he has ever had, "not made with love" I tried it. There was nothing wrong but the broth just tasted very watery. We will not be returning sadly.
