The 17 Best Restaurants & Bars In Joshua Tree - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Picture a dive bar located on the furthest reaches of the High Desert. Chances are you’re imagining something close to Out There Bar. The windowless, 70s-era space in Twentynine Palms has a shuffleboard, Bud on draft, and, of course, a crusty old dude in the corner cussing at the TV. Dig a little deeper though and you’ll find some surprising stuff. Namely, sporadic drag queen bingo nights, Neapolitan pizza pop-ups, and sets from great LA indie bands on weekends. It’s the kind of place where you never know what you’ll see or who you’ll talk to—just that it won’t be boring." - Brant Cox

We stopped across the road and this bar was so convenient. Before and after dinner at the KITD we were well looked after and entertained by the staff and locals. It was by far the most friendly place we visited on our three week trip. The cocktails were excellent and the shots generous. We would love to go back sometime.

Excellent bar! Loved the huge mural in the main room. Played darts and watched some others play pool while enjoying a couple Pacificos. As the sign outside says, “not fancy but friendly.” Accurate. Everyone inside was friendly and wished us a Happy New Year. Highly recommend if you’re spending any time in Twentynine Palms.

Out There Bar is the best! There’s no better place around to have a cocktail or beer. If you haven’t been yet, you should go…now. Ian and all the amazing bartenders will make you feel like you’re at home. It’s got a great feel inside with an interesting mural, posters and decor. There’s pool and a shuffleboard for your entertainment. Always great music, most often a dj too. Great outdoor patio if you like to hang outside too. The boraxo hand soap in the bathrooms makes me happy every time I go there (it exfoliates). I can’t recommend Out There enough! I really just love this place and the people in it.

Last night, I visited Out There Bar, and it was an absolutely horrendous experience, primarily due to the shockingly rude and aggressive behavior of the bar owner. Here are the key issues we encountered: 1. Extremely Rude and Aggressive Owner: The main reason our visit was so dreadful was the behavior of the bar owner. We wanted to shoot some pool before ordering drinks, but the owner immediately became irate. Instead of interacting with us directly, he monitored us through security cameras and then aggressively approached us, demanding that we order drinks right away. When we hesitated, he kicked us out within 10 minutes. At one point, he almost put his hands on one of us, which was extremely intimidating and unacceptable. The owner is an aggressive loser who has no idea how to run a hospitality business. His creepy and disgusting behavior completely ruined our trip. 2. Poor Service: Beyond the owner’s aggression, the overall service was disappointing. The rest of the staff seemed indifferent and inattentive, adding to the negative atmosphere created by the owner’s behavior. 3. Dirty Environment: The bar was not well-maintained, with sticky tables, dirty floors, and even some uncleaned glasses at our table when we arrived. It gave off a very unhygienic vibe, further detracting from our experience. It’s no wonder the bar was empty on a Saturday night. With such an aggressive and incompetent owner, it’s clear why people choose to go elsewhere. I would strongly advise against ever visiting Out There Bar. Even if they paid us to return, it wouldn’t make up for the disgusting behavior of the owner. If you go here, expect to have a horrible, uninviting experience. There are plenty of other places in town that offer better service, cleaner environments, and more reasonable prices. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs.

Google
Sure seemed like we had found a special little bar in the desert. Stopped in on a Wednesday night to find a wonderful bartender and happy patrons to talk to. Bought the teeshirt!! Went back the next night and the woman behind the bar this night was also professional, warm and friendly. Decided to stop in the next night, Friday night and we were taken by the bartender who was cold and disconnected, bored, dry, without care or concern. So we didn't go back, finding other bars to frequent. Tonight, we stopped back in only to find the same deadpan bartender who offered no warmth or welcome, the guy had his arms crossed, no smile, he didn't even tell me how much the drinks where. Why have a bar with a careless and emotionally empty person out front? .$12.00 for a well drink and a ginger ale with no personality. It's no wonder the bar was empty.

Google
Fair drink prices/amazing cocktails and the bartenders are just wonderful! They have pop-ups (food-wise), and they're delicious, so don't sleep on them! The live music (if Melancholy Babies are playing RUNN!!! dont walk), and DJs that we've seen so far are magnificent. For the area, this IS your spot for a good time, and you will be made to welcome🥰 P.S. There's an ADORABLE Photo booth, an outside area, a pool table, and other games!

Yelp
One of the best bars I've ever been to. Looked for a random bar to watch a hockey game. My team lost, but what a consolidation it was to find this place. The bartender was super nice. They have a pool table, shuffleboard table, and darts. The vibe is immaculate. Loved all the knick knacks they had all over the place. Feels like a real western-type bar, but with an a genuine art twist. All the people hanging out there were so friendly and cool. I really couldn't recommend a place more than this spot! I wish this bar was in my town, but I'll have to settle for making the drive to sweet ol' Joshua Tree and making pit stop at my new favorite bar.

Yelp
An excellent bar. Best mezcal paloma in the high desert! Friendly bartenders, great music & good vibes. Love drag queen bingo, the late night dance parties & and I fall to pizza's incredible pizza in the back. It's nice because it is both a chill bar where you can have a conversation with friends & also busy enough to meet new people. We are lucky to have this establishment in 29.

Yelp
Best hang spot out here. Attracts good people. Outdoor patio has fresh pizza pop up every weekend made by the coolest couple and the pizza is incredible! Let's go! See you there.

Yelp
Friendly, quirky bar with solid cocktails and great music - there was a DJ playing old school country on vinyl when I was there. They also have pizza which looked good though I didn't try it.

Yelp
Bartender was TRASH to say the least, she's rude and doesn't know how to make drinks.

Yelp
Owner tried to fight my friend after he complained about his drink. Owner was also extremely drunk. First and only time I'll ever be here

Tracey R.

Yelp
Bartender left himself extra tip on my card. Sad, because I thought the bar was fun otherwise.

Yelp
The perfect desert bar. Cold drinks, pool, shuffle board, darts, a photo booth and great service. I'm not sure how this place has only one review, but I'm here to get it some business. Stop in for a drink, you'll have the best time.

Yelp
BOMB.COM Owner is courteous and helpful. Good selection of drinks. Home made mix for bloodies. Special drink of the night was a Hot Toddy. They have ample space for having fun with your friends. Pool and darts in the back, shuffle board in the front. Outdoor seating, and a DJ booth. It's a dive bar, 10/10 nostalgia points.

Yelp
Seriously one of the most welcoming bars in the high desert. I've only been coming to this spot for a few months, and I never really imagined being a regular at any bar - but this spot sure changed my mind. Feel so lucky to have this spot in my town. Thanks OTB.

Yelp
The bartender is unprofessional and hostel. We have been to this bar twice now and both times were unenjoyable. For some reason, the front doors and back doors are always open when it's 100 degrees outside and the Airconditioner is rendered useless. If you want to sweat while drinking, this is your place. Lastly, I watched him refuse service to 3 customers who waited well over 10 mins for him to acknowledge them. This establishment should address the issues within or just close down. The bartender working 29 July 2023, has an authority complex, if you are not a local prepare to be treated like dirt. Avoid this place all day.

Yelp
Brilliant place!!! Fun, great drinks and Ian is phenomenal. If you come to 29 Palms and don't stop by, and at least have one drink, or play a quick game of shuffle board or pool, you are not completing your desert experience. It was awesome. Thank you Ian!!
