Brewery destinations around Colorado to visit | Eater Denver

"“Something hidden. Go and find it,” implores Outer Range Brewing Co.’s homepage. The Rudyard Kipling quote is an apt choice for this adventure-oriented brewery, an easy stop off I-70 and close to ski areas such as Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. The tap list is a New England IPA lover’s dream and the raucous can release parties draw a crowd." - Monica Stockbridge

The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Summit County, Colorado, Breckenridge | Eater Denver

"Outer Range’s In The Steep New England–style IPA is what put this Frisco brewery on the map, but customers can hardly go wrong with any of the hazy IPAs. The brewery is so small-batch that the best plan is to talk to the bartenders and taste whatever’s on tap. Food is BYOF but on the weekends the Cheese Love Grill food truck slings griddled sandwiches (gluten free-ers can ask for theirs wrapped in lettuce) and loaded fries in the parking lot." - Amanda Faison

Very cool place in Frisco to stop for a beer and grab food to eat. Although they have much to eat, their chicken is amazing! To top things off, you can enjoy roof top views of the mountains! This is a must place to visit. Employees are exceptionally nice and hardworking!

This is a classic spot that never disappoints. The outdoor patio is always pleasant and dog friendly. Like their IPAs and take home options

We visited on a bustling late July Sunday and had a fantastic brewery experience! The suds, atmosphere, service, and food were all outstanding. Its decor is open and modern with indoor and dog friendly outdoor seating. The outside was covered to provide dry protection during those afternoon micro storms. It also had massive windows that brought the outside inside. The beer section was varied and tasty and the folks slinging the suds were friendly and professional. The fried chicken was delicious and I appreciated the pile of rice that was included. Overall a great place to visit and share some fellowship with others in the community or meet some of the tourists visiting the mountains! Thanks for the hospitality ORB, we really enjoyed the visit 🫶

With a large selection of beers, there's something to satisfy every palate, from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts. The atmosphere is inviting and vibrant, making it a perfect spot to hang out with friends or unwind after a long day. The seating options are plentiful and thoughtfully designed. Both the downstairs and upstairs areas feature cozy seating that encourages relaxation and conversation. Whether you prefer a more intimate setting or a spacious gathering spot, you'll find it here. Absolutely love this place! The beer is some of the best in the state. The chicken is amazing. The coffee and breakfast burritos are also so good. The patio is epic and the interior both up and down are comfy and fun. Plus the merch game is strong. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

It's hard to get better than this. Outer Range is my favorite brewery in Colorado. They have 5 million IPAs on tap at any point and they are all top notch quality. I haven't had a better IPA in Colorado. New releases every Friday. To top it off their space is awesome!!! They have a really cool upstairs (including balcony) and downstairs (including wind protected, heated outside area) and they have barrels on the lawn, which become a badass heated yurt area in winter. The view from the balcony is amazing. I love this place!!! Don't miss this if you're in the area!

Google
Where do I even start about this brewery? We walked in and Pete greeted us with a warm smile and a kind word. I felt educated and informed without being overburdened by details, he pointed us in towards excellent gastronomical avenues and lead us down a beautiful path of discovery. Looking forward to our next trip to the Rockies. (Best Lillet since Mont Saint-Michel)

Yelp
Ooohh Outer Range Brewing, you're looking mighty fine indeed. When I'm heading down from a day in the mountains, I am drawn to you like a moth to a hoppy flame. "Why," you ask? "Why not," I exclaim! First, there's your covered and enclosed patio. Perfect for making the most of the Colorado sun on those chilly days. Did I mention brews with a view? Oh yeah, Outer Range Brewing has got that in the form of an upstairs patio, allowing you to really take in the views of Frisco and get up close and personal with the nearby mountains. Second, naturally, the brews. Outer Range Brewing offer up a wide variety of deliciously crafted brews to quench your thirst and make the rest of the drive to Denver just a little more bearable. Everything is crafted with care. I'm a sour girl, and I have to say, their seasonable sours are bursting with flavor. I wish I could remember the which one's I've had, but it doesn't matter - they're all excellent. I've even had a couple of the IPAs and found them just a delicious. Third, the beertenders are super friendly. They're more than will to chat with you about the beers, the brewery, or the shirt you're wearing. But for real, they're full of genuine passion for what they do. Fourth, cozy mountain vibes? They're not short on all the vibes. Throughout the whole brewery there's cozy couches, community seating, and tons of spaces to tuck yourself away and hang out for a bit. I absolutely love it. Fifth, for those of us that craving something more substantial to accompany our cold brews Outer Range offers up a tasty variety of Thai inspired bites from Bird Craft - conveniently located in their taproom. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich and the Tom Ka Ghai soup. Both are completely delicious. Bonus points for being doggo friendly (on the patio)! I love getting to love on all the pups on the patio when I'm there. Let just say, I've got a little crush on you, Outer Range Brewing. I can't wait for my next post-adventure visit. Cheers, Frisco!

Yelp
GREAT PLACE FOR A FEW BEERS AFTER A LONG DAY ON THE MOUNTAIN! This is a craft brewery with a food stall inside, thus I'm writing a separate review for each one of them. This review is about the craft brewery. The place was fairly crowded when we arrived around 6:30pm on a weekday night. We managed to find a small high table on the second floor - cozy space and great vibes! There is also a rooftop patio but it was cold and dark outside, so we didn't check it out. I was in the mood for a few lighter beers, so I tried High Peak (Pilsner), Artifacts (Grisette), and Apres All Day (Kolsch). All are of decent qualities - very crisp and refreshing. Service was great and friendly - the bar staff gave me some good suggestions based on my preferences, and we also had some small chats about the place and the beer, etc. I'll likely visit this place again for beers when I'm in the area again in the future.

Yelp
Great beer choices, fast service and a beautiful Mountain view!!! Would definitely recommend coming here and trying it out :)

Yelp
Most importantly, the beer was fantastic! Bonus was the tasty food and great facility. We are from out of state but will swing by if traveling in this area again. Thanks!

Yelp
This is my favorite breakfast spot in the entire world and the patio is wonderful. We always make a stop when we are in town. The B&G burrito with green salsa is the best!

Yelp
Stopped here with some friends on our way to Glenwood Springs - I love their beer. They have a good range (ha ha pun) and can make a delicious stout as well as an IPA. My husband and I shared a flight of four - water colors IPA, Snowfields stout, Put it Back in a Blender sour and slush IPA. The stout was our favorite - it was so smooth and the vanilla was delicious. Would have definitely gotten a four pack if they had it, but we settled with two four packs of the Slush and sour. Be prepared to wait for a table - even though this place has two stories and outdoor seating, we had to wait a few minutes to snag a table! Super popular place but not overrated, beer is that good.

Yelp
Outer Range is the bomb! We discovered this brewery when one of our local breweries in Nashville did a collab with them and we decided to stop in at the brewery when on a road trip in Colorado. The brewery is in a great area that's just off of I-70 and surrounded by a bunch of shops. The mountains are all around you and Frisco is at ~9000 ft of elevation, so it was a super fun drive up from Denver. The brewery has lots of seating and has 2 floors with an outdoor patio as well (we didn't use this as it was raining when we came). The beer is fantastic and they make a mean IPA. We definitely grabbed beer to go and this was fuel for our trip. They also have fantastic food and their Thai fried chicken was so so good; the food alone is worth a stop. It's a great brewery overall with great food and it's now on our list of places to visit again on our next trip to Colorado!

Yelp
Outer Range Brewery is top tier. It's hard to beat the brewery's location/view and beer. They drop new beers of Fridays and previously brewed one of my favorite beers, Hell Ya Brother. The parking lot is shared with many businesses but big. The service was quick and easy. Both floors can smell like a brewery, malts, wheat, hops etc. At first I didn't appreciate all of the smells but then it felt authentic. The upstairs includes an eclectic set of furniture, several doors that open to the balcony, and with it an awe inspiring view of the Rocky Mountains. Outer Range shares its space with Bird Craft Thai-ish Fried Chicken and Mountain Dwellers Coffee Roasters.

Yelp
While some may disagree, in my view the best brewery and craft beers in Summit County. Excellent rotating beer selection, great variety, and quite a few exceptional IPAs. Nice seating area upstairs, and even in the winter the outside covered patio is warm, cozy and inviting. Lots of places for a good beer in Summit County, this is my favorite. Their bartenders are helpful in finding you a beer to your liking. Easy access off I70.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Great beer selection, outside seating on upstairs patio and SOOOO much seating within the brewery. Staff was great! We got an unofficial flight (no board) and a selection of 6 beers, would recommend!
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and though I would try some local brews and this place was just the closest to my lodge go I decide to give it a try. Man I tell you the brew was the best I've had at a local brewery in a while and the staff was super attentive when I needed a refill fell right at home. If I could give Ryan 6 stars I certainly would thank you bro. If you want the fell of strait from their fermenter this is the place only the freshest beer.
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
This place was really fun! We enjoyed our time here while visiting the area for the day. I tried the sippin' and it was pretty good! Wasn't the best beer ever, but it was good! The service was also really great and friendly. They have a lot of outdoor seating, but not as much inside. It was raining pretty hard, so people were having a tough time finding places to sit. We loved that they had a coffee shop and food right in there as well. It is definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Riddhika J.

Yelp
The location is so serene and its next to the whole foods so picking up snacks was easy peasy. They also have some food available at brewery that we didn't get to try because we went just after lunch. We ordered their "In the steep" and "Rolling Hills". Both were just okay. Nothing exciting. It was good for one try and enjoy the views but not sure if ai will go there again!

Yelp
One of the best breweries in Colorado. I stop by every time they are open, when visiting the mountains, to grab a beer and a few 4 or 6 packs. My other beer geek friends specifically ask for beer from Outer Range. I love this place! The hazys and stouts are my favorite.
google avatar

Brenna P.

Yelp
I had heard good things about Outer Range, but I only recently had a chance to check it out. I started with the Super Smash which is a spiced lime gose (lime, chili and habanero peppers). It was a delight to my palate with a hint of spice. I also tried the Polar Treasure, an Imperial Stout. At 15.5%, this isn't for the faint of heart. My wife and I shared a taster of it and absolutely loved it. We also tried the Supermoon Slushy (sour with raspberry, passion fruit and banana). It was good as well. The service and vibe here are great. I'll definitely visit ORB again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
What an amazing spot for a brewery! And guess what? Their beer is equally amazing. It was such a reward to drive into the mountains to get here. The view from the 2nd floor is prime! Be sure to get your pictures here. Their bar is spacious and beautiful! They have lots of beers to choose from on draft or to go. They also have a wide variety of merch. If you're looking for food they have a Thai chicken spot inside and a coffee shop! Love the variety. This definitely seems to be the spot to come after a morning ski. This place got busy really fast within the first hour they were open. Cannot wait to return!

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in CO located right off 70. Have watched this small, unassuming location turn into a two story beer mecca over the past few years. Parking is plentiful. Staff is always friendly. Beer is the best of the best. If you like dank, hoppy IPAs, you'll be in heaven. They also have delicious lagers, stouts, and sours. Prices are reasonable. The brewery now has tons of seating options. Bring your friends and dogs.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
A casual place for food after skiing or just after hanging out in Frisco. Fast service and a decent amount of selections to choose from.
google avatar

Carolina H.

Yelp
Beautiful brewery! Plenty of beers to choose from and their outdoor patio...wow! It's huge!!! Great place to stop by after a hike or checking out the town. They sell food as well, Bird Craft Co.
google avatar

Charles H.

Yelp
THE ONLY THING I CAN ADD to the other excellent reviews is CAVEAT: this large brewery with tons of seating doesn't have TVs to view sports. I mean the Broncos and Rockies don't suck that much. PROTIP: DUI Free: it's a 15 second walk from the back deck to the Frisco Transit Station. The county shuttles leave at 1/2 past the hour until midnight. (See pic)
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
i forgot the name of the sour i got but it was so good!! & the only one on the menu:( my only downfall to the place but beggars can't be choosers. the view is obviously amazing & they have such a big space for tons of people. the pretzel was delicious and overall the vibes were great.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with an incredible rooftop view. The beers were great, service was very friendly and the vibes were right for a post hike hang out. They have plenty of parking and good food options located inside the brewery.
google avatar

Lexi Z.

Yelp
Beer was amazing. The view (mountains) was immaculate. The vibes of people and staff members were all positive and gentle. This has became one of my new favorite breweries I've ever been to. Again, the flavor of the brews and ambiance of the brewery was like nothing else. Wish I lived in Colorado just to visit here more often
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot to enjoy the Mountain View in the fall sunshine drinking beer. Wow excellent beers, had lunch at bird craft and a rice beer. So good. However I found my new favorite beer "in the Steep" a fruit scented smooth ipa that goes down easy. I had to get a 4 pack to have later tonight. Thank you for some great beers.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Wonderful views of the mountain! They have a section for gluten free which was fabulous. A great spot to hit while in or going through Frisco, Colorado! The rooftop is a nice added plus to an already pretty big brewery. Easy and quick service with a lot of people and very dog friendly!
google avatar

Tasha J.

Yelp
One of the most popular and fun places to hang out. The atmosphere can be super fun here and the large size is wonderful. It can still get really crowded and a bit overwhelming but the staff is nice and the space inviting. As far as beer goes, you won't find any place better. For those who aren't beer lovers, they do have a few wines sold in half size bottles that are wildly overpriced. Worth the cost if you like cool, chill places to hang.
google avatar

Olivia B.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere, large indoor outdoor area. Great food place inside! Will be back!

John B.

Yelp
For all the IPA fans! If you like hoppy beer this is the place for you. Great selection of beer, good ambiance, good sized outdoor patio. And if you aren't sure what you are looking for, all of the staff are good at explaining the different types of beer. Definitely a must stop on your way from denver to breck or keystone, they also offer many of their beers in 4 pks to go.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Fantastic beer and a great place to spend a few hours with good friends. Not in the mood for beer, there's a coffee shop inside. Hungry? Bird Craft is a gem with healthy and delicious creations with coconut fried free range chicken.
google avatar

Carly M.

Yelp
Juiciest and haziest IPAs of them all. MUST stop in the area, definitely an epic spot with just as awesome views!
google avatar

Tana R.

Yelp
Where can I start... We are regulars at this place as we often ski & snowboard or hike in this beautiful area. We have tried all different breweries in the radius of an hour + around and Outer Range still remains our absolutely favorite here! Frankly, it's also on the very top of my list of the best Colorado breweries (I have been to 50+). Besides their AMAZING brewing wizardry and a friendly customer service, you can expect to find a great chill lounge on their 2nd floor and a fun patio outside. On top of all this goodness, they have also partnered up with Bird Craft kitchen, which is basically a little food kiosk that serves an amazing food ranging from salads and fried rice with your choice of protein all the way to curry and chicken sandwich. Great food! Enjoy your visit!
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Came here after a day of hiking around Vail and Frisco. There's lots of seating, out on the patio and inside the brewery as well, so even on a sunny Saturday we had no issues finding a spot for two of us. The patio is also very dog friendly! We loved the variety of types of beers and sizes you can order. The staff were super friendly and the space is very clean. Highly recommend getting food from Bird Craft too- so dang good. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
IPAs aren't my thing any longer, but I stopped by Outer Range to check out their low ABV offerings and grab a bite at Bird Craft. Had a lager and the only sour (guava) they had on draft. Loved the sour, the lager was tasty, but nothing earth shattering. This is a very cool place to hang out after a day playing in the mountains.
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The beer is some of the best in the state. The chicken is amazing. The coffee and breakfast burritos are also so good. The patio is epic and the interior both up and down are comfy and fun. Plus the merch game is strong. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Outer Range Brewing was the latest in the series of trying out Colorado breweries I haven't been to before! With Outer Range I had two of their very tasty pilsners. The Kicker was the first pilsner that I had. It wasn't bad. It had a bitter, grassy flavor to it. It was by no means bad but it wasn't the one that really won me over. The one that did win me over in a big way was their High Peak Pilsner! Oh so very good with it's light breadiness and extremely clean, crisp flavor features makes this beer easily drinkable and bery easy to get more than one!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Awesome staff. Amazing beer options. The ability to sit outside in a heated patio...just awesome. The food options right next door are the best. Get the fried chicken and hammer it. Some of the best I've had.

Meghan C.

Yelp
Outer Range specializes in hazy IPAs and they do not disappoint! IPAs can be biting and bitter but these hazys were smooth and well balanced. All that we tried were delicious, especially the Colorado Cucu. It wasn't available in the can so we went home with Weekend Warrior, which was also delicious! It's an order at the bar and pick any table you want kind of place. They have an outdoor area in the front that is covered in cold weather- it was nice but gets super hot with the sun shining in. No worries- you cool off with fresh beer!
google avatar

Ski B.

Yelp
beer is still ok. But the atmosphere and Starbucks ordering mentality kills me. Staff doesn't say hello or welcome when you step in the place. They raise there hand in the air and say next person!!! This is just silly and sad and that this Brewery, and I've been to others. Operate this way. Nothing is classy anymore. It's just a machine that doesn't truly care about the customers. But I keep coming back when my car is getting worked on cause this is the closest beer joint. I sure wish they would get some class and personality.

Yelp
We were heading to Steamboat Springs and Rabbit Ears pass was closed at 5PM. Instead of waiting, we decided to get a hotel in Frisco and Outer Range Brewing was right next to our hotel. Since it was snowing, we decided to walk across to this brewery. Walked in to a lively crowd and they had a music set that hit the right note. Ordered an Alpine High IPA and enjoyed the hopiness and flavor. We ordered another and got some food from Bird Craft to go back to hotel with the kids. Both were delicious!
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Delicious tofu bowl, cool ambiance (playlist Sunday night set an enjoyable vibe), incredible service. Dina was knowledgeable & friendly. Combo of everything made us feel comfortable to stay, play games and order more beer. Thank you!
google avatar

Kyle P.

Yelp
If you could rank breweries simply by the views, then Outer Range would be the highest rated brewery on Untappd. Just look at those pictures - could you imagine enjoying delicious beer while looking at that? Yea, it's special. It's funny to think that with beer this good, what's flowing on tap is almost secondary, but the beer matches the view. Great hazy IPAs that pack a ton of flavor in surprisingly lower ABV formats (it's rare to have a DIPA at 7.2% that tastes like the 9%s in Chicago and NY). Outer Range also has a food and coffee joint within it, as well as cool events throughout the year. If you're in the area, it is absolutely worth the drive - that too is gorgeous. Cheers!

Yelp
Whoaaa!! It's been two years since I first visited Outer Range Brewing (ORB) and I'm impressed at how far it's come. Last time I came in the dead of winter. My partner and I stopped in this shopping center to charge our car at Whole Foods. While waiting, I had a few beers at Outer Range. Plenty of seating, though I wish I could have experienced the yurt. I didn't even recognize ORB two years later! Still a great dog-friendly bar with cool swag but now has eateries all around it. So many more options on tap, especially IPAs. While I've had less-than-optimal experiences with the bartenders before (flirting with the guys around me) this new set of staff rocked. My friend and I ordered beer and food, then sat upstairs. My original review said, "Craft breweries are always a welcome sight when you're in the middle of nowhere and need a break during a long drive." That still holds true! Anytime I drive through Frisco, no matter what season, I'm 100% stopping here. ORB has officially become one of my favorite breweries in Colorado. Next time I'll have to get some cans to-go.
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
One of the greatest breweries in the state. We LOVE Outer Range so much! It's definitely one of our go-tos. The beer is great and ever changing and they always push the envelope on new flavors. One of their smoothie-like beers is one of my favorites. Even though the beer is great - we love the people who work here! Every beer tender is extremely knowledgeable - the first time we met Gabe we were shocked at how much he knew about beer - especially THEIR beer! It's a lively spot that has the warmest ambiance inside. Great people & amazing beer. Nothing is better!
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
Had heard about this spot from beer geek friends, and I knew it as sort of a "destination brewery". Good: - Great view of the mountains - Cool hang out spot with plenty of space, lots of people working on their laptops, hanging in groups, etc. Good vibes Bad: For MY palette, I did not like almost all of these beers. All of the IPAs are of the "how many crazy hops can we squeeze into this IPA" variety, with half of the IPAs having like 4 hop varietals plus cryo hops. Didn't find anything pleasant to the taste expect the pilsner, which was really more of a "hopped lager". With that said, if you're on the hunt for the most extreme hopped beers you can find, this place might be up your alley. If you've tried "Heady topper", picture all the beers here as even more bitter/hoppy versions of that. For me, just too much.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This is hands down the best brewery I have ever been to in the US.... Seriously comparable to the ones in Belgium. AMAZING beer. Like seriously amazing. And such a chill place! So much fun. Beautiful views, great space, games to play, food to eat and again AMAZING beers. I was going to go to a more well known brewery in Dillon and I'm so happy I didn't. That place was touristy and kind of like a chain. This was perfect. If I ever visit frisco again, I'm coming back for a visit!
google avatar

Holly C.

Yelp
Delicious beer. And a cool place to hang out on the way back from the mountains. Parking can be rough, especially when Outer Range is having a party. Check in advance if you don't want to deal with crowds. Super friendly staff. Lots of seating indoors and outside on a covered patio. The IPAs are amazing.

Will T.

Yelp
Beer was good as usual. Food was good but a bit overpriced. However, the atmosphere was way too loud with music. Conversation was difficult and my multi-person party left after only one round when normally it would have been 2 or 3. Too bad.
google avatar

Mikaela C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our time at Outer Range Brewing last week and can't wait to stop in again the next time we're in Colorado. The beertender was very friendly, lots of fantastic beers on tap, comfortable atmosphere with indoor/outdoor seating, fun merch to take home, and seating was still spaced apart due to Covid. We had no idea there was also a coffee shop & food stall inside. We did not try either of those, but hope to the next time we're in! Highly recommend stopping by whenever you're in or passing through Frisco, CO. You won't be disappointed :)

Cammie M.

Yelp
Had a great time genuinely best beer beer I've ever had and amazing service! Can't wait to come back(:

Yelp
Vibes are simply immaculate. Outer Range has areas inside, outside, and up on their rooftop to enjoy the brews & views. Their playlist is simply banging. Beer choices are amazing. If you love a juicy hazy I recommend the Techno Tomboy *chef's kiss* Food is great too! I enjoyed the poke bowl and will definitely come back and enjoy it again (next time i'm ordering the poke tots too).
