The New York Times Posts Meatless Gumbo Recipe, Gets Roasted By Louisianans - Eater New Orleans

"Plans for the restaurant replacing Elle-J's, a somewhat short-lived Creole-Italian restaurant in Lakeview, are taking shape, reports the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate. Called Outpost 45, the restaurant is being developed by the owners of the nearby Mexican restaurant Velvet Cactus and bar Wrong Iron on the Greenway to be a casual, all-day neighborhood restaurant. While details beyond that are scarce, owners expect to open it in March 2023." - Clair Lorell

First of all Sean was an awesome waiter! Outpost 45 in Lakeview knows how to hit the spot. The She Crab Soup is rich and creamy—like it just slid into your DMs. The Caesar Salad is fresh and crisp, but throw some shrimp on it, and things get downright naughty. The Chicken Fried Steak? Hot, crispy, and smothered in all the right places. Finish strong with the Blonde Bar.

We ate here with a party of 12 on a Saturday afternoon. We had a reservation for 2:30pm, but arrived earlier, at 1:30pm. We were greeted and advised to sit on their outdoor patio, around their fire pit. After a 30 min or so wait, we were seated earlier than our reservation time. Regretfully, I don’t recall our server’s name, but she was fantastic… knowledgeable, prompt, and took care of our entire table very well. She knew the menu and was patient with our questions regarding some of the items. Inside, the restaurant definitely has a nice, cool vibe. We got the impression the place likely has a slightly more upscale feel in the evening, but when we were there during the day, we had the sense the crowd was pretty diverse… some in shorts, some more dressy, while some were there to celebrate graduations. The menu was a little eclectic, matching the restaurant’s interior… but very good and tasty. We also ordered what turned out to be some of the best bread pudding we’ve ever had. Looking around the restaurant (indoor and out), we could tell that quite a bit of thought and organization went into many of the design aspects. The place is loaded with beautiful classic pictures, along with well placed fans and heaters on the patio, with proper signage for everything. Kudos to the owners for designing such a welcoming atmosphere and having what appears to be a well trained and friendly staff. We’ll definitely recommend Outpost 45, and will look forward to visiting again the next time we’re in the area.

The experience here was definitely different. There was inside and outside seating. The outside looked more like "cool" hangout for 30-40 somethings. We went inside. It seemed very dark which I couldn't figure out since it was the middle of the day. We ordered, I had the chicken, he had the fish Both dishes were tasty with light sauces on each. I am glad we went but not really my husband's kind of place. He was ready for a snack and hour later

Google
The atmosphere here is very warm and nice. All of the staff that I interacted with was pleasant and super friendly. We ordered crab rangoon dip as an appetizer and it floored me with how delicious it was. We also had the hot chicken sandwich and hangover bowl. Both were absolutely delicious but the fries were not seasoned. My girlfriend had a bloody martini and it was super watery (this is why I am giving a 4 star). I had an espresso martini and it was very good. Where we sat was a little cramped but it was overall a very good vibe. Hopefully the drinks will be better in the future as this is a fairly new restaurant.

Google
First time here and they did not disappoint. The staff is very nice and friendly. Chelsea our server was wonderful, refilling drinks, clearing the table, she was very efficient and cheery. The food was delicious! Worth every penny, i am definitely going there again.

Google
I will start with the good, the She Crab Soup and Hangover plate were definitely worth going back for. The brisket was very pleasant. The kids chicken strips were also good. The bad: the bartender was very rude, the server was attentive but just didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. The burger was ok, but could be much better if they seasoned it and didn’t cook the heck out of it. They portray it as a “smash burger,” it’s not. Because of this, they say it can’t be cooked any other way but nuked. It actually could be cooked medium despite what management coaches its servers to say. The kids grilled cheese would have been better if it was actually cooked. The Bloody Mary was far from acceptable. I swapped it for a beer and they had to change the tap, eventually brought me something that resembled more of a White Russian than a beer (see photo). It’s worth mentioning that the manager was the one who dropped this “beer” to the table and before he did so, he took a hard look at it but dropped it anyway. The server is the one who noticed it wasn’t right and took it away. All in all this place has potential. A tip for management, reevaluate the bad apples you have on staff and please get the burger right. You’re in Metairie where there are numerous places with great burgers, if you can’t compete then just take it off the menu.

My appetizer was pretty good. I had crab Rangoon dip. Good thing I enjoyed that because my main dish wasn't that good. I had the biscuit eggs & potatoes. I didn't enjoy it at all. My friends oysters were tasty. Some enjoyed their drinks & some didn't. Service was very good.

Google
Expresso Martini, pecan crusted catfish with chesy grits and blackened redfish with lump crabmeat. Green beans and potatoes Awesome. Great portion and very delicious. Food was served hot. This was our 2nd visit ane we will definitely return for several more meals. Friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Yelp
Amazing ambience for Christmas time. The food was amazing and the waiters were attentive and happy to help with wonderful service. Definitely recommend trying this restaurant.

Yelp
I had a great time at Outpost 45! The food was absolutely delicious, let's talk about that crab rangoon... yummy, yummy, yummy! While I wasn't a big fan of the biscuits, my girlfriend really enjoyed them, so it's all about personal taste. The drinks were fantastic, she loved her margarita flight, and the staff was super accommodating by substituting one of the flavors for her. Our server was awesome and made the experience even better. Oh, and the decor? Loveddddd it, it's a cool vibe. I would definitely recommend this spot and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I've been seeing this Resturant advertised on social media for some time now. So I've stopped in for brunch twice so far. I Was real excited because the menu looked real nice. The service was nice the first time but the second time we really didn't have a good one. We had a guy that was really nonchalant and didn't pay us any mind. I could go into more detail but no need to bash anyone. But when someone acts like that it makes the food mediocre. But the food was decent my favorite thing I ate was the French Toast it was sweet and moist easily a get it again. The Crab Rangoon dip was elite as well so creamy and full of flavor. The Harrison BLT was a big let down just felt they didn't put any effort into it was kind of just there. A BLT is a very simple dish but has to be made with love and care. The Winser Scramble had a lot of potential but it only had 3 shrimp in there it's hard to forgive that when that's the only protein it has in there. The hangover bowl was pretty nice, literally any dish makes you get over any hangover you have brisket in a dish it's always hearty. Now to the McOutpost, I love the idea of it. I felt if the biscuit was a bit firmer and more flaky it would've been nice. Overall this spot is a pretty cool spot to go catch a vibe and a bite.

Yelp
We went during happy hour and had a very pleasant experience. I had the chicken fried steak with a jalapeño and tasso sauce that was great on a bed of cheese grits. They have a good line up of altered old fashioneds so that was exciting for me, it's one of my favorite classic cocktails. I could tell the grits got done too soon because they were a little too cool, but otherwise everything was great. Our server was very attentive and excited to have us sitting in our section with everyone else gravitating towards the bar during happy hour, so that was nice.

Yelp
The service was amazing! Our server was down to Earth, friendly and helpful. They are open during the day for brunch/ lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Other weekdays they open at 4:30 P.M. for dinner. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke for an appetizer. It was delicious. The wontons were fresh and crispy. The avocado, pineapple and tuna were perfection. I had the N'awlins Hot Chicken Sandwich with fries. OMG! It's my new favorite. It was so tasty and melted in my mouth. The fries were cooked perfectly.

Yelp
Ambiance and service were great. Parking wasn't a hassle. Garlic bread: 10/10; best thing I put in my mouth; goes great with sauce from BBQ shrimp Half Roasted chicken: 9/10; was quite full before entrees, but this was quite tasty the following day. Heated in air fryer, and it was moist, tender, and flavorful. Skin was crispy. Cheesy grits: 9/10; these were creamy, cheesy, and tasty Red Fish: Have to follow up with my wife BBQ shrimp: 7/10; wasn't crazy about the shrimp, and didn't like the sourdough bread at all. Sauce was good, though Crab Rangoon dip: 7/10; wontons were light and crispy; dip was tangy, but I don't remember tasting crabmeat Fried ribs: 7/10; tender, juicy, nice crust, but meat needed more seasoning

Yelp
The brunch and coffee were delicious. I didn't take the best photos because I was so ready to eat. Service was friendly, fast, and funny! I love new Orleans banter y'all. I will say it's a little pricey, but the food is good.

Yelp
Service is 10/10! Have to start there. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Low light on the inside so it gives an intimate vibes. Parking can be a challenge, especially on busy nights in the area. The menu has something for everyone and a nice selection of wines and drinks. The catfish strips are amazing. Breaded to perfection and the sauce that comes with it is a perfect match. Good for an evening after work, a night out with the family or a date night with your partner. Most items are also priced fairly. The location is in lake view and good location to walk to local bar or get ice cream from across the street.

Yelp
I decided to come here for my sisters birthday after seeing the dessert board that they call the celebration. It was the kind of extra i was looking for. We started with an appetizer. We got the crab Rangoon dip and it was pretty good. I really liked the chips that were made out of fried wonton wrappers. We got drinks. I don't remember what they were called but the cocktails are really good. For my meal I got a soup and the wasabi oyster Cesar salad. I didn't taste wasabi in the oysters but they were very tasty. My sister got red fish which was just ok. She said she would try something else next time. We ended with the celebration board. It was so cute and the individual desserts were so good. As 3 people we definitely couldn't eat that. We took the majority of it home. The service was average. And the ambiance was nice. Especially the outside area.

Yelp
My friend made reservations for her bday. I had recently seen this place on IG. It looked like it could be a vibe. The menu looks great! I mean when reading the menu you can imagine eating everything. However the food was underwhelming at best. The service was weird as well. Our server seemed to be checked out a little bit. I had the lent special pasta sauce over angel hair pasta. It had potential no seasoning I had to add a lot of salt. I had the crab soup. So rich but no taste. The fried ribs were ok. No seasoning. The onion rings were the bomb. Even my coke was flat ..... Idk if I would go back

Yelp
First time trying Outpost 45 and it was a treat. Once Mondo closed (another fav) I didn't add this venue to my list, but so happy I finally tried them. I was pleasantly surprised. Tried several appetizers and a bottle of Meiomi for the evening and it was truly worth it. There is also a great happy hour during the week, drink specials so I will definitely be back to try more. I love the bar area and vibe of the restaurant. The staff was super friendly and service was on point. I tried the crab wonton dip, debris fries, onion rings and ribs - all so good. There are a few more I'll try out when I go back. Next I want to try the mufalatta eggrolls - they looked so yummy. Menu items: Crab Rangoon Ribs

Yelp
I have posted about this restaurant before after having the Brunch. Trust me, the Dinner menu, and food selection is FAR SUPERIOR to the brunch menu. We had a larger group for dinner and we all o Loved our meals. The Corn Crusted Pork sShank was excellent. The Redfish was great as was the Salmon. We loved the Wasabi Oysters and the Crab Rangoon Dip. Don't forget to get the garlic bread. Service with Gail was excellent. Ambiance was nice. The bar served good drinks.

Yelp
The service here is TOP TIER! I went here on a whim with a friend for brunch and it did not disappoint. I was studying afterwards but i would have loved to try their drinks as they had SO many different ones. We split a tuna melt & a surf & turf and they were both delicious! Tuna melt was for sure my favorite one. A great shareable would be the crab Rangoon dip! For sureeee also recommend the onion rings so good

Yelp
Correction to original review: I'm not schitzo, just got the salad names backward and forgot to correct mine: I had Aunt Les' Spinach Salad, which is my go-to. Everything else still applies!

Yelp
Excellent food, comfortable outside sitting and friendly service. Crab soup and blackened shrimp were delicious, as was the desert and coffee. Highly recommend.

Yelp
5 stars for service. If you get Jayla as your waitress she will take great care of you. The food is pretty good. I LOVE the sweet potato fries and they always have yummy frozen cocktails that rotate out regularly. I've fallen in love with the frozen watermelon margarita and the frozen prickly pear margarita. The decor reminds me of a mix between a country saloon with hints of pop culture art. The bathroom is immaculately maintained which I appreciate having three small kids. We will be back to try brunch one Sunday.

Yelp
Enjoyed a Sunday afternoon brunch. The dining area was very pleasant and quiet. They also had a really nice patio set up as well. Would be perfect for a night out for drinks. We had a party of 6 and were seated in a round booth table. Lots of room for all of us and our food. Our server Jenna was wonderful. She was patient while the rest of our party arrived and brought everything out very fast. We ordered the iced cold brew to start and they were a good combination of strong and sweet. Our table ordered several drinks including the mimosa flight, margarita, orange Julius margarita, and the spa water. All were very delicious. The spa water specifically was very crisp and refreshing. All of our food was amazing and came out very quick and fresh. Overall a wonderful experience and I'm looking forward to coming back again soon!

Yelp
Another birthday celebration with the family! We had a reservation for 11, and were nicely accommodated in an area slightly away from everyone else. As soon as our full party arrived, we were quickly seated. In the meantime, we ordered drinks from the bar trying to take advantage of the last minute happy hour specials. The waitress was attentive and patient. We ordered and food came out relativity quickly to say it was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the waitress was a bit challenged with meeting our expectations and understanding our request Jen it came to settling the bill. We worked it out amongst ourselves but we had to explain what we needed a few times to her. I'll definitely go back.

Yelp
This place is adorable. It has outdoor seating with astroturf to give you the feel of sitting in a garden and indoors is dimly lit and comfortable. They have metal shelving hanging above the bar with the extra alcohol bottles, which I loved, because you can see what they have at a glance. We started off with the orange julius margaritas, which did remjnd me of orange julius at the mall, just needs a tiny bit more orange flavor. My friend tore up the orange slice garnish and muddled it into the drink. My friend had the she crab soup and I had to taste it. It was amazing! I will go back for this next time. So good! My meal was the fillmore scramble (eggs with tomatoes, scallions, shitake mushrooms, spinach and feta), spict cheesy grits and a biscuit. It was super tasty. I did have to ask for butter and jelly for my biscuit, which seemed weird, because no one I know eats a biscuit with nothing on it. We shared the bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and it was also wonderful. Most of the staff came over at some point and had a chat with us, which I enjoyed. They do have a mimosa flight, which looked pretty good too.
google avatar

Janna J.

Yelp
I went here for a late lunch for a friend's birthday. The menu is a decent size and some has some standard brunch fare, but we got the crab rangoon dip which was very good! There are lots of fun cocktails on the menu and I ended up with a strawberry/gin concoction. The hangover bowl was huge and perfect whether you're hungover or not. We went during a Saints game, but we were seated immediately. We were seated near a semi-private area that was occupied by a party. They were kind of loud, but if we weren't next to them, then it would have been decent level of noise. It's a good spot to keep in mind when you need something different than your regular spots.
google avatar

Jolene G.

Yelp
The place looks really good! The ambiance is so cute! You sort of feel like you're on a ranch but throw a splash of Hollywood in there. Had the hangover bowl as my meal, but it was lacking in flavor. I also believe the brisket was overcooked. A few of the potatoes were hard and undercooked as well. The grits had a good flavor though. The drinks were perfect! I had the Orange Julius Margarita, which really brought back childhood memories of having Orange Juliuses. I also had the Violet Beauregarde, which was a nice blend of tequila, blueberry, and taste!

Abbigail C.

Yelp
My friends and I have gone for several birthday brunches and it's always great! Cocktails are delicious and the food is always fresh and tasty. Don't skip out on the cotton candy mannequin for the grand finale!! Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
We went to Outpost 45 for brunch. We had never been there before and thought this was a great opportunity to try them out. We ordered the Muffaletta Eggrolls as an appetizer. For entrees, we split the Smoked Brisket Bennie. The poached eggs were perfect, and the flavor of the smoked brisket was better than I could have possibly hoped for. The service was incredible, and the atmosphere was truly remarkable with vintage movie and music artwork. There was outdoor seating available. Wit the summer heat, we did not partake but vowed to be back in the fall.
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Dinner Update: I had a reservation of 7, and we enjoyed the food as much as the brunch, maybe even more. The dishes that stood out were the Shitake Mushroom Pasta from the Panned Chicken, Pecan Crusted Catfish, and the Skirt Steak. The listed were well seasoned, and we left very satisfied. I highly recommend the apps ordered as well. This place gets super busy at night so having a reservation for a party of 4+ is recommended.
google avatar

Darriane J.

Yelp
This place is cute! The server was super nice! He answered any questions & gave his recommendations. I have a nut allergy so unfortunately that ruled most of the menu for me as they use Almond oil to fry everything. I was able to order the Filmore Scramble with breakfast potatoes. It was good. I'd visit again to check out the outdoor area. (It was raining when I visited so couldn't enjoy.)
google avatar

Shalon P.

Yelp
I want to love this place. Their restaurant is super cute. Their menu looks nice as well. Servers are always friendly and personable. The food is always meh. The people I've gone with had similar experiences with the mediocre food. One thing struck me as odd is that they serve homemade potato chips but serve frozen fries. This place has such potential. I'm really hopeful they nail it
google avatar

Yelp
I came here after the CCC 10k because it was close to city park where the race ended and because I've been wanting to try it out. It was not packed and we were able to be seated immediately. We sat outside because we were sweaty and because the weather was nice. We ordered the mimosa flights and they did take quite some time. Our server said they ran out of the puree so they were making some. The funny thing is after the mimosas finally came out a fly landed right in the glass as soon as it hit the table lol. But they were delicious! I was hesitant about the coconut flavor but it actually ended up being my favorite. We ordered the crab rangoon dip to start which was good but I feel like it was just missing some sweet chili sauce to really bring it up a notch. I wasn't really in a brunch food mood so I ordered the burger which you can never go wrong with. The service was great. We had Eric as our server and he was very attentive. Corey was another server who wasn't assigned to our table but he was so friendly and helpful. The staff here was amazing and I definitely will be back

Ronaldo o.

Yelp
French toast was awful, tastes just like bunny bread and it was very soggy. They should definitely try to use a different type of bread for this plate. I've had way better at other brunch restaurants. Hangover bowl looked and tasted like a plate of dog food. No presentation, way too many flavors in one bowl. Tried to get it changed but manager refused-- much different protocol at other restaurants. Normally they'll just change the plate because they want the customer to be happy or at least offer a discount. Customer service was professional but not understanding nor helpful with the dissatisfactions of the customer.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
This place is pricy for sure. They have alot going for it though. They have location, fun and friendly staff, nice ambience, really cool coktail concepts like the build your own old fashioned, and they have creative dishes - some don't think are prefected yet or at least note when I went. Overall, I give it 4 stars because I like their ambition. I think the outdoor space is incredible. I like that obnoxious, fun cotton candy dessert. Their brunch concept with the champagne flutes in a whimsical arrangement. I will have to try this place again for brunch. The dish I ordered here was at lunch time or early dinner and it was the pecan crusted catfish, maybe I am just not a fan of the pecan and catfish combo because I love pecans and I love catifish, but I didn't love the execution of this dish. The sauce spot on though. And it did have a nice crispy, crunch. The hubby ordered something I am not sure is on the menu anyway, it was pulled pork, I think, with mac n cheese and beans. The mac n cheese was spot on, but I did not love the meat or beans. I think this place is definitely up and coming, I do wish the prices were a little lower but keep moving in the direction you are going in.
google avatar

Henry B.

Yelp
If there's one negative about this place their isn't 1! Lol! The Outpost45 Grit Cakes are heaven on a plate you forget you are eating grits. Blackened Red fish cooked to perfection with the perfection amount of lump crab and potatoes that aren't burnt! The drinks are great also esp the Paloma and Old fashioned. Service didn't miss either we were being indecisive and she never got an attitude about us taking long to order lol
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend went out for dinner tonight and wanted to try a new place. We saw Outpost and decided to give it a try. I have not truly enjoyed a meal out like i did this one, in years. We got the chips and dips to start and loved all of them and mixing. He went with the cajun pasta and i opted for the chicken fried steak dinner, absolutely amazing! We thought we had no room left until they said they had bread pudding and wow it was great. I will say it has raisins so if you aren't into that maybe it isn't for you, we loved it! Would come back as a nice date many more times. *Extra note that we observe often, managers were very observant and kind to their workers. As service industry workers we value a resturant where the employees enjoy their job! Happy servers made the time way more enjoyable.
google avatar

Truvae D.

Yelp
Been wanting to get here so I finally made it for brunch. It wasn't crowded at all, a lot of searing was available. My friend and I sat at a high top in the bar area. I ordered this mimosa spin off cocktail, that was really yummy and cute presentation wise. For my food, I was stuck between the Oyster Bennie and the Hangover Bowl. I decided on the oysters. It was pretty good but nothing special. The food temp was mediocre and I don't like sending food back. I would go back again and try some other menu items.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely phenomenal! It did not disappoint. We loved everything we ate and the drinks were mixed perfectly
google avatar

Phyl S.

Yelp
Food selections are not too wide but overall tastes good. Nice, cozy atmosphere with that wooden "outpost" feel.
google avatar

Mia F.

Yelp
There's just so many other restaurants like this already... I don't know why they had to build another one. It's pretty generic food. They already have Juniors in Lakeview. Outpost 45 isn't really authentic anything, and it's not very creative. So much of it is pre-made and just warmed up. Nothing made to order. I'm sure they're raking in money though because all of these items are low-grade but still very expensive. I give it two stars because the service is very good. Also the happy hour leaves much to be desired. They have deals on wine "9 oz for the price of 6oz" but still ridiculously overpriced. And on liquor, but not the cocktails!
google avatar

Bria P.

Yelp
So disappointed in the food. Hardly any food on my specialty sandwich. I opened it to search for the two shrimp and barely there brisket. It was bland and nonexistent. If you are looking for flavor and descent portions this is not your place. Literally the manager comes out with a small bowl of more brisket to fix the problem. The Mimosas are flat.. the bartender says sorry it's Prosecco on tap. What do you expect?!? If you're a local skip this experience. If you are a tourist please don't waste your time in this city on this. Far better food basically anywhere.
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
This place has the best vibe I have seen in a very long time. The food was amazing and the customer service is on point. I found my new place!!
google avatar

Sebrina B.

Yelp
I met a friend here for happy hour drink and apps. We both saw the same Instagram influencer talk about it and I do wonder if perhaps that's the reason for some of the lower reviews. Anyway I did enjoy the vibe with the super low lighting inside. It was still too hot to enjoy the lovely patio. I did make a trip to the bathroom and it was well maintained with some extra items and decent decor. I had frozen french 75 with onion rings and boudin dip. The frozen french 75 is a super generous size and great strength. The rings were well cooked and not greasy. I wasn't a fan of the boudin dip but my friend was. Service was decent though we didn't require much. Overall, a decent spot.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday at Outpost 45. The restaurant itself is cute! The outdoor seating would be perfect for happy hour. Inside has a rustic feel and the party area is very nice! The drink menu is extensive. I went with the mimosa flight, the flavors were a little different than what is listed in the menu but seasonal flavors are understandable. Other people in my party enjoyed other drinks, all very strong not lacking on the alcohol content at all. The food was delicious, I went with the smoked brisket Bennie and was not disappointed! We also shared the fried ribs and crab Rangoon dip both amazing appetizers! The only thing I wish was different is being able to split checks, having 18% added gratuity is perfectly understandable with large parties. But usually large parties people are paying separately so being able to just get the check split up would be a nice addition.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
Nice spot. Went for brunch with my friend. At this time, they had removed their mimosa flight from the menu so we opted for a bottle of champagne and a cup of juice to get our money's worth. I know there was discussion of potentially bringing the flight back. I enjoyed my food. I had the Smoked Brisket Bennie with scrambled eggs (comes with poached eggs) and a side of bacon. It was quite tasty. Our waiter was great. We had a toddler with us, and the waiter paid just as much attention to him as he did us. It was quite sweet. The restaurant itself is quite spacious. They have spaces for small and large parties. They also have an all day happy hour that I plan to check out soon.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
According to my husband, I ordered correctly. The crab ragoon dip was great and so were my brisket eggs bennie! I also got a train wreck mimosa which was good! On the other side my husband got a Bloody Mary that just lacked flavor and his shrimp and grits were okay. I will say that I loved their outdoor seating! They have a mimosa flight that looks fun!

Yelp
The food and drinks were delicious! Ate at the bar and the staff were awesome and very friendly. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to enjoy some food and drinks in a casual atmosphere.

Yelp
Great food, service, and recommendations. We just wish they were open more days a week. We like to visit more often

Yelp
This place seems to lack direction. Are they a bar or restaurant? They market themselves both ways. Need to figure out a direction and go with it. Food was ok,nothing special. Was actually little disappointed in quality. Service was the bright spot. Waitress was pleasant. Would go again if I was close by but don't see it as a regular place.

Yelp
Drinks are strong and good! I sat at the bar, and ordered a gin and tonic (I know it's basic)... we got the rosemary potato's and wasabi oysters (not the best thing I've ever had) the place is super cute it's def a vibe. It's pretty pricey but I'll be going back!

Yelp
Honestly, I don't plan on going back to this restaurant. I was excited to try them due to videos I'd seen on Instagram. Two of my friends and I went for happy hour. It's a nice dim lit place. The specials were $2 off frozen drinks, double for the price of a single mixed drinks, and a discounted price on wine (I forgot how much). I ordered the fried ribs and a side of Gouda Mac and cheese. I've had fried ribs many times before and these were just not good. The macaroni had a very hard crust on top, I just ended up removing that. The flavor itself was not good to me, and I love gouda. The actual macaroni shells were mushy. It reminded me of tv dinner macaroni. Also the food came out within 10 minutes of us ordering which was odd to me. It made me wonder if this was fresh food or something they just pop in a "microwave" or something. I didn't even get a Togo box for my leftovers, it was that unappetizing. The drinks were good. I got to lemon drops, one blackberry and one strawberry. I was baffled when my check came because it was $48. I noticed I had extra charges for my drink. I asked the waitress why there was a $3 extra charge for each lemon drop. She responded "I don't know." Then proceeded to go ask her manager. She came back to say it was $1 to add flavor and $2 extra for martinis. I told her she did not tell us that when I first asked about the happy hour specials. I specifically asked her what was included, and she stated martinis as an option. I asked if a lemon drop is included, and if I was able to get flavor, she said YES. So obviously she didn't know what she was doing. She did not offer to see if they could take the prices off, so we just paid. I am disappointed that I wasted $50 but you live and you learn!

Yelp
I was shocked at how good the food was here. I know this spot has been 3 or 4 different restaurants since Hurricane Katrina (and I liked Mondo) so I wasn't sure what to expect being that this spot has had so much turnover in the past 18 years. But everything we ordered (the poke and crab Rangoon dip for appetizers and the panned chicken & blackened redfish for entrees) was excellent. As a Lakeview resident, it's nice to have a "date night" spot only a few minutes from my house. Next up to try - Red Bird Fried Chicken!

Yelp
Brunch at outpost 45 today was delicious. From the frozen French 75 to the grit cakes, everything was delicious. Love the atmosphere. Sad they no longer offer the mimosa flights. I'm definitely returning for dinner.

Yelp
The atmosphere & service was great. The food was a bit disappointing. The hangar steak was completely loaded with fat & had a strange seasoning. I ate a couple bites & then unfortunately had to send the steak back. It was not removed from my ticket. I had to share my daughters kids meal. The Gouda Mac & sheers was ok. Crab Rangoon dip was very tasty.
