Three new food carts will open in Prost! Marketplace on Mississippi | Eater Portland

"A sandwich cart whose sandwiches were designed by Graham Chaney (the Stammstisch chef), it offers lunch options like a salt and pepper squid sandwich for umami fans and a morning “fishy” bagel with lox and salt cod cream cheese; it will open next week next to Bloodbuzz." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Ordered several of their bakery products and they are all very good. I especially loved the everything bagel and the cinnamon raisin bread. I did have the bag of cinnamon crisps come in a mostly crumbled state but they made a great topping then for my fresh peaches and blackberries. I have tried a few gluten free bakeries and not been happy. I am staying with Out of the box bakery. All went well from ordering, delivery and products themselves. I would recommend.

Google
Vegan oat bread and oat bagels are probably the best gluten free bagel I have yet to taste! And their jalapeño cheddar crackers are bomb

Christina M.

Google
I ordered bread from them that I received last week. I went to eat a piece for the first time a couple days ago and the bread was already moldy. I sent several emails and no one has responded to me so I called today and spoke to young lady who wasn’t very professional and advised me that there’s nothing she can do since she’s just a retail worker. This is my first order from this company and I’ve heard great things but unfortunately, my experience has not been great and I will not be ordering from them again.

Laura M.

Google
This was a shipped order, so atmosphere isn't applicable. I ordered 2 different breads, 2 different bagels, rolls and hot dog buns. The flavor and consistency are so good! Not anything like normal GF bread products. The bread that I received did have mold. I contacted customer service and they refunded me right away. This is a top notch bakery with excellent customer service!

Sasha J.

Google
After visiting a local restaurant who used their products, we wanted to go give this bakery a shot. The gluten free pizza crust was awesome! My picky kids and husband gobbled it up. The gluten free hot dog buns were also good. The only thing that didn't taste as great were the graham crackers but I ate them plain. They might taste better with something on them. I also got a box of gluten free donuts that everyone loved. I wished they had more products but the lady working says those plans are in the works...can't wait! The prices were just right. As for moldy bread, the lady working said the bread only last a few days due to the whole ingredients. So, we freeze everything and then take out what we need which works out great. I will definitely be going back.

Google
It's all amazing. I even have my mom and niece ordering out of state now!!! So good

Google
I order online. I haven't been to their store. I had given up every being able to EVER have a sandwich again. About a year ago, someone had recommended Outside the bread box bagels. The bagels are the best gf bagels I've ever had. After that i ordered the raisin bread. I loved the raisin bread even more than the bagels. (The other breads are fine but too small for me to make a sandwhich). After wasting so much money on products i end up not liking, i was afraid to try their sandwhich rolls. FINALLY, I caved and ordered one pack. I should have done it years ago. These are the best sandwich rolls I've ever had. I'm pretty sure they are better than rolls with gluten. That's gow fantastic they are. I'm so happy that i can have sandwhiches again. It's a sinple pleasure that i have missed. A couple of other things: 1.) I have never had an issue with my order. 2.) there are no instructions on the website or on the labels, about how to store the products. I freeze them until i need them like i do with all gf products.

Jimmie F.

Google
If you buy it, it's gluten free. Great to have that option. Great quality. Service was not bad, not great. Small building but they are moving soon.

Yelp
GF Hamburger buns are delish! Haven't tried their other products yet but will in the future.

Yelp
I am always confused when I go in. I feel like I should be walking into a bakery that smells like fresh bread and has lots of fresh options in cases. What I find is a lot of frozen bagged bread, a few snacks bagged up, and a bunch of other brands. Very tiny loaves- my husband is not gf and only does it to keep me safe. He was not a fan. The bread was dense and dry. The hot dog buns were hard, and hard to bite. The kids just ended up eating it separate. The dinner rolls were the winner of it all. Crusty on the outside, soft on the inside very pleasant taste. The crackers were sweet and did not have near-enough salt. Meh. Only one employee at the register behind the door. Not very welcoming or helpful. I'm glad they are moving to a more convenient location. Hopefully they will set up the front end better.

Yelp
I will say that this bakery has the absolute closing thing I have ever found to cheezits. They also have really delicious "cinnamon crisps". They are basically cinnamon graham crackers. The lack of the fifth star is due to their lack of inventory. I wish they would provide a wider variety of product.
google avatar

Tracie L.

Yelp
So my 5 stars is for their products more than for the facility/location. Their products are in the Co Springs Whole Foods and Natural Grocers. I originally purchased a loaf of the vegan oat bread at Whole Foods and I can say it is probably the best GF bread I've ever had. Plus the carbs are low for GF bread- almost making me question the accuracy. I drove to their location specifically because in other reviews it appeared you could sample all of the products. Since I intended to stock up, I wanted to go there. Plus I figured you get a selection of ALL of their items vs the limitation of the stores that carry the products. As you know if you are GF that the items aren't cheap. I didn't want to drop money on a $6 loaf of bread and dislike it. So if you are thinking the same thing, be warned, they only sample whatever they're baking that day. I went on a Thursday and they sampled jalapeño cheddar crackers, choc chip cookies and vegan oat hoagie rolls. So I wasn't much farther ahead. The crackers were really good- tasted just like a cheez it. Maybe even more depth to the flavor. I got a another vegan oat, since I know I like it. I got brown rice bread, cinnamon raisin bread, garlic oat bagels and choc chip cookies. I haven't tried the bagel or cinnamon raisin yet but the other items were awesome too! One additional note on their retail location- they have day old for 5% off and 2 day old for 10% off. It's not a huge discount, but if you're throwing it in the freezer, it's worth the savings. Plus you know it sits a few days on the shelves of the other stores anyway ! The date was 4-5 days out. I also think the cost per loaf is less there. Bread was $5.99 and I paid 7.99 at Whole Foods for it. If it's not out of your way, you'll get to sample a few things, save a few bucks and know it's super fresh!!

Yelp
Unassuming store in a largely residential area. Pretty adequate parking in their own lot. As others have said, there is no wonderful smell of baking when you enter, and stocks can be rather limited. I'm just thankful that it's available at all, and that it's a pretty good product. It's remarkable that they can produce enough to sell at a variety of large stores in the Denver area. Even though the need for gluten-free products continues to grow in the US, it is still quite a gamble to produce multiple lines of GF baked goods. I remember days past when the rice flour bread was distinctly grainy and heavy. This is not the case with Outside the Breadbox. We tried the brown rice bread and dinner rolls while we were visiting the area. Also tried the apple and cinnamon hand pies or empanadas. Flavors were on point, as were the textures. It's great to have a resource like this, and not have to develop your own recipes. Some of their stuff is more take-and-bake, which should be a great way to get freshly baked stuff and fill your home with wonderful aromas.

Yelp
Hi Outside the Breadbox! Thank you for creating and selling allergy friendly baked goods. Thank you also for providing an option for items to be shipped as I live in CA. I have a 6 year old son who is severely allergic to most of the top 14 common allergens plus several other food allergies. I sincerely appreciate your company's mission and for helping families with food allergies have a safe option for baked goods. Your vegan oat bread is the only safe sliced bread I've been able to find for my son and it will continue to be a repeat order. My son loves them so that makes us huge fans!
google avatar

Raeley G.

Yelp
We have several food allergies in the fam -- gluten, dairy, and egg -- and whenever we are in Manitou we make sure to stop by and stock up on some loaves of vegan and gluten free bread. Yes, it's pricey but that is what you'd expect at any similar specialty bakery. We're happy to know of such a place!

R C.

Yelp
We were driving when I unexpectedly saw this little bakery and decided to take a chance on this place. So glad we did. My husband was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and we have been looking high and low for good tasting gluten free products. We bought a few loaves of bread and a bag of cinnamon crisps. They are all very tasty. They have several other prepackaged gluten free and vegan options. Can't wait to try these out in the future.

Jesi C.

Yelp
Their gluten free Vegan Oat Bread is soooo good! You can eat it without even toasting!

Tasha M.

Yelp
Best GF bread I've ever had! Plus they have many vegan options which is helpful for family gatherings
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
What a great little bakery. I'm not looking for gluten free but the chocolate chip cookies aren't missing anything I need. The young lady was helpful and had an adorable giggle. Highly recommend this bakery for all.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
TEN stars!! If I could give them 10 stars, I would. They have the BEST vegan bread! It is gluten free, dairy free, egg free, nut free and wheat free. The vegan bread does not taste like gluten free bread. You must warm it up or toast it. I love it toasted with vegan butter. I can eat bread again!!!! It is only sold in Colorado stores but you can order it online. You will not regret ordering the vegan bread. The owners started the business because of their daughter's allergies. They may open a restaurant catering to people with allergies.

Yelp
While I don't typically eat gluten-free, these products are tasty treats nonetheless! I brought my parents with me, and we purchased cheese crackers and jalapeno and cheese crackers, both of which are really yummy! However, my favorite were the ginger cookies. I ate one in the parking lot, and seriously debated if I should go in and buy another bag. If I wasn't taking my parents to Denver for shopping and lunch, I would have eaten the entire bag of cookies! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and I saw one person help someone who had trouble walking out to her car. How nice is that?!? The lady at the registered was very nice and polite to my mother, who had a number of questions. But I was able to meet my friend's son, Brandon, who is a great baker! The only downside is a very small parking lot, so park your SUV or Hummer on the street. We'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Carla S.

Yelp
Only the best GF graham crackers EVER! I should probably branch out and try new things.
google avatar

Ruthe Ann G.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Plus they ship! I visited outside of the breadbox last year when my husband and I came to visit Colorado for my cousin's wedding. I had specifically made a trip to Colorado Springs to visit this bakery! I found amazing bagels and breads here. I bought a bunch and I have even ordered some for my house when I want bread. I cannot recommend this place enough! I love the vegan oat bread.
google avatar

Velnette J.

Yelp
This place is a lifesaver for me. Amazingly delicious baked goods to cure my bread cravings (because many store options are gross) after finding out I can no longer eat gluten. The vegan oat bread and the cheese bagels are my favorites. A must visit place if you need some gluten free treats

Madison H.

Yelp
I stopped in as a tourist, with strict dietary restrictions... The vegan oat bread is the best gluten free bread I have tasted! I will be ordering some for delivery soon! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Bread! Real bread, that my family can enjoy! Vegan, Gluten Free, Nut Free BREADS! Pizza crusts, cookies, muffins, cakes, crackers, bagels, and pies. And great service too. Small shop with off street parking. But be careful when trying to enter while West bound on Colorado Ave. Close to a light where lots of people turn without looking. The smell of the place is amazing when they are baking.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
This is the place for gluten-free bread. Tastes better than real gluten-full bread! I don't know how they do it but I'm grateful!
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Free samples galore! Lots of gluten-free items and the vegan oat bread is so yummy! While it's a bit expensive compared to what you get in the supermart, it far surpasses those loaves in taste! I'll gladly continue to give them my $$ for tasty breads and cookies! ;-)

D L.

Yelp
Ok this is not a super cute bakery/cafe style place it's just a straight up go in and grab your loaf type of store. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious their cinnamon raisin bread and oat bread is!! Fantastic toasted with grassfed butter. I can't wait to go back for my weekly loaves!
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
Best place ever! So sad because I don't live in town anymore. But I have been all around the country and you cannot find anything that comes close to how amazing this bakery is. Being GF this place is a Godsend, I wish they were in every city!!!
google avatar

Melodie M.

Yelp
When I became gluten free 5 years ago, I was dismayed at the crumbly, sand like texture of most of the GF breads I could find in the grocery store. Then I discovered Out of the Breadbox Bakery. The bread is AMAZING, the pizza crusts perfect for dinner in a pinch. My family, who are not GF, routinely ask for a piece of the Out of the Breadbox bread to eat they like it so much. One of my favorite things is the freezer section with baked products reduced in price. I go about once a month and stock up on all my GF needs. Great service too! Everyone is so friendly there!

Yelp
Most addicting bread ever!!! Finding GREAT gluten free and dairy free bread is very hard to do. I'm a well traveled foodie and this is hands down my favorite bread! I won't have any other! The vegan oat Bread is my absolute favorite!!! And they have sandwich bread, dinner rolls, hoagies, pizza crust, they have it all! I highly recommend this bakery for your gluten free bread needs! And they have some great discounts too! :)

Eva P.

Yelp
This is absolutely the best gluten-free bread I have ever had. I live in Tennessee so I have it shipped to me. Great customer service and an awesome product. If you are looking for gluten-free, then this is the place to go for sure!

M B.

Yelp
My daughter has a wheat allergy and I'm sensitive to gluten... we heard about this place went in to try the samples- everything was great! The GF bread was amazing and tastes better then gluten bread.

Jennie V P.

Yelp
Absolutely the BEST gluten free bread I have ever eaten. Makes great dressing to go with Thanksgiving turkey. Also excellent for bread pudding.

Yelp
Best in the Country! Outside the Breadbox produces some of the best baked goods I have ever had. I live in Seattle and would love a place like this here. Since the beginning of my gluten free diet in 2004 I have eaten many bad gluten free foods just because I am so limited. In the past few years I have eliminated all but the best gluten free foods and Outside the Breadbox is on the best of the best list. Don't stand for bad food just because you eat a gluten free diet. Outside the Breadbox is a gluten free oasis. Every trip I take to Colorado Springs must include a trip to Outside the Breadbox with a large bag of their fresh baked goods stuffing my bags for the trip back to Seattle. If you eat gluten free baked goods do not miss Outside the Breadbox. Colorado Springs is lucky to have such a great store! ~~ Mike P.

Melissa F.

Yelp
The Vegan Oat Bread (gluten free) is AMAZING!!!! I am gluten intolerant but not vegan, so I didn't try that style right away when I first discovered this store. They don't use rice flour in the Vegan Oat Bread either. I don't really like the consistency and/or texture of breads made with rice flour. This bread is so good, I don't feel like I'm deprived at all! In fact, if I didn't have to eat gluten-feree, I'd probably get it anyway! They have lots of other freshly baked gf items, also. Some of the things I've tried and really like are the jalapeño-cheddar crackers, the pie crusts (frozen), and the graham crackers. I didn't really care for the cookies - they have a grainy texture, probably because of the rice flour, but that's just my preference. Also he staff is very helpful and can answer any questions you might have! Great store. :)
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
This was by far my saving grace when I had to go gluten free. I was seriously depressed eating udis bread- trying to gag down the dryness. The bread absolutely 100% doesn't taste gluten free. I was beyond floored and now can actually handle being gluten free. I can't wait to try more than their sammich bread!

Mountain L.

Yelp
Outstanding people, wonderful gluten free products that are super tasty and fresh every time!!!
google avatar

Rae S.

Yelp
The only gluten free bread I will eat. If they somehow cured my Celiac, I would still eat the vegan oat bread, it is truly delicious!
google avatar

Erica M.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!!!!!! They even have their own baked gluten free graham crackers and they are fabulous and of course, great for s'mores :)!!! And never would I think to get ginger cookies but their ginger cookies are melt in your mouth! And they have bagels!!! As a gluten free person this place is absolutely life changing!! GF stuff at other stores gets old in my opinion, and, they contain more preservatives because they are more mass produced and need to have long shelf life. But this place is super fresh and everything is delicious! AND the workers are super sweet!!!!

T B.

Yelp
Delicious! I recently became very gluten sensitive. I hated all breads and pizza crust that were gluten free until I found this place. This is the best gluten free bread in the country. I recently moved to east tenn from colorado and man do I miss this bread on a daily basis. They can't keep it stocked in maryville tenn and if they did I would drive 2 hours to buy it all !

Alayna M.

Yelp
This bread is so good! When I let my friends and family taste it they were surprised at how good it tasted. I ate the rice bread before I found out through testing I was allergic to rice and egg. I tried the vegan Oat (one of the few grains I am not allergic to) bread and it is just fabulous. I've been ordering it ever since. I would order it more if I didn't live so far away from the bakery ------ Shipping can quickly empty the pocket book because I live north of Fort Collins. I hope they open another bakery in or near Fort Collins. In the meantime, I will continue to order as long as they will ship and I can still afford it. It is money well spent to be able to enjoy a sandwich now and then or a peice of toast that actually tastes like it is made from great bread.....because it is. :)

George A.

Yelp
Breadbox is good but a new dedicated gluten free store and bakery in arvada cuts your drive if you live up in the denver area. Both are great but with gasoline so expensive, I try to save some money. They are over off ward road and 64th ave. I suggest their muffins, cookies and delicous graham crackers, they have a pizza dough to die for. The owner says they will be in Vitamin Cottage just after the new year 2013

Bailey S.

Yelp
Their Vegan Oat Bread is literally better than I can ever remember bread tasting. It is unreal. Texture, taste, everything! My only compliant is how quickly it sells out after delivery at stores!

Kassidy B.

Yelp
They make the best gluten free products I've ever had. For those of you who can not make it to the bakery in Colorado Springs, find their products at Vitamin Cottage in the Denver area. Make sure you get there on delivery day, Tuesday and Friday, because they sell out quickly.

Adolfo G.

Yelp
My son flew in to Nashville from Co and brought me the best bread I ever had. Found out I was gluten intolerant and this bread is heaven sent. Now, he's got to keep the supply line open. First gluten free bread I've had that actually you can dunk with great results.

Pamela G.

Yelp
I regularly shipped at Benefit You Life in Knoxville, TN; the only store in the southeastern US. I loved the Vegan Oat Bread. We have recently moved to a very small town outside the borders of Raleigh, NC. I am having to order many of my favorite gf foods. I can find nothing to compare to the Vegan Oat Bread. What is your minimun order for shipping my favorite bread across the US?????

Norm L.

Yelp
Hands down, the BEST GF bread I've ever eaten. We buy the Vegan Oat bread. We live in Texas and were visiting my son and his family in Golden, CO last summer. While at a farmer's market there we stumbled across this gem! My daughter and I have celiac disease and bread was, by far, the hardest product to find GF that was tasty. Well...we found it!! I order several times a year and they ship it to me in Texas. The staff are very prompt to fill my order. The only thing is I have to be home in the summertime to get the package off my front porch, but that is not a problem!! The bread freezes well. And I even ship it to my daughter in college. Just wish they had a storefront in the Houston, Texas area!!!!

Sunny A.

Yelp
I have not purchased or eaten bread in a long time because I cannot handle all the gluten free options (super cardboardy), I have tried many and they are not good. I just got this bread at Natural Grocers the other day and I am floored!!! I had to double check the ingredients 3 times because I just cannot believe this taste so good and moist. Finally someone figured it out!!! I looked online to email them to let them know and there is no email address, but I will leave this review here and hope they see it. Great great product, want them to know how happy they made me and I am sure many others. I will spread the word.

Sandy W.

Yelp
The best GF we have ever found in the U.S., Canada and Europe is their Vegan Oat Bread. My impression is that they are a small bakery. Their Teff bread is wonderful, and they make lots of wonderful things!

Jeannine B.

Yelp
OMG !! We are from Florida. I bake my own GF bread when at home. But while in Colorado we were directed to this bakery and bought the blueberry bagels, and oat bread. We were in Heaven. Thank You so much for making our great vacation even better!
