"This Pearl District pizzeria was a meeting of two incredible minds in food and beverage: Cathy Whims, the owner of Italian institution Nostrana, and Ryan Magarian, the co-founder of Aviation Gin. Together, they created this pizzeria-meets-cocktail bar, serving char-dotted pies alongside Old Fashioneds and Añejo tequila Manhattans." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I’ve been wanting to try Over and Shaker as it’s very close to where I live and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. It’s so nice having a convenient place with good pizza close from home. We ordered The Pearl (Ham & Onion added) which was delicious and a Margherita (Pancetta added) which was good but we thought could’ve cooked for a tiny bit longer. My husband had the Tijuana Kissing Booth cocktail and loved it!! We will definitely be going back for more!

We wanted to try this place since it was not too far from where we lived, and pizza is an essential food item. We tried three pizzas so that we would have leftovers. We had the mushroom, pepperoni, and spicy salami. All were good, but I really liked the spicy salami because it was sweet yet spicy. It was the right amount of spicy for me with just enough kick for flavor but not too much, leaving you sweaty. I also tried the bit o orange non alcoholic drink Eric was really good. The service was friendly and relatively fast. The crust of the pizza was also very good.

Right out of the gate their beer CO2 went down, so we were unable to enjoy a draft on a hot day. We were disappointed and shared our disappointment. The server staff questioned as to why we were disappointed "just because the beer is out?" That demeanor was degrading and judgemental. We didn't appreciate that. We opted for an old fashion drink, which she did comp one of them. They were pretty weak. The service was poor. The hostess were friendly, but our wait staff seemed very irritated with us and was short with any response she had. We are not difficult customers. The pizza was amazing. We tried their special called "Elote" and we added pepperoni and sausage. One pizza is perfect to share for two people.

The novelty of the restaurant is seeing the large oven baking the pizza. Service is lackluster. Getting the server's attention is difficult. I was able to listen to a conversation between the staff which wasn't terribly interesting. I ordered a lemonade which was oddly flavorless. Asked for lemon slices to squeeze into the drink but received a small shot glass of lemon juice instead. My dining partner likes pizza. He ordered the pepperoni pizza. He enjoyed it. I did not. I found the crust to be overly thick. The char was fine. This location does not have a dessert menu. I am surprised they do not have a chocolate "dessert pizza" option on the menu.

I recently hosted an event on the patio at Oven and Shaker, and once again, Manager Michael and his team did an outstanding job. The service was fast, attentive, and professional, and the food was excellent. We had plenty of space for everyone on the patio, which made the event comfortable and enjoyable. This wasn’t our first time celebrating here, and it definitely won’t be the last. Thank you, Michael and the entire team, for helping make the day a success!

[gluten free review] We have dined here several times on both busy and dead occasions. When it isn’t busy, there is always someone to greet and seat you - typically we sit at a table when it is not busy (we rarely make a reservation here as a party of two). The wait staff is great, kind, happy to help with anything. After ordering, the food does take a moment to prepare, but it’s never a period of time that is beyond expectation. When it is busy, we will dine at the bar - their selection of beer, wine, cocktails is above average, but nothing crazy amazing. Our favorite pizza to order is the margarita and it is absolutely delicious. What I really am impressed by is their gluten free crust. I have not eaten pizza containing gluten in many years, so my list of favorite gf crusts that lives in my notes app is extensive. Oven and shaker knocked everyone to the ground and took the top spot. In fact, I was worried they had made a mistake and brought the wrong pizza out. It tasted so good. Not crunchy or chewy or overdone. It is what a dream about when I think of pizza. They did it! I haven’t had any other flavors of their gf pizza, but if you like a classic, you’ll love the gf margarita. My mouth is watering just writing this review. Needless to say, I’ll be back in no time ready to dine at oven and shaker and crush a gf marg pizza.

The day we went in had a pretty limited menu, good pizza and friendly service. The size of the pizza is enough for one person, not really for sharing.

Google
Really loved this wood fire pizza! Great selection of liquors and non-liquor drinks. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Fried mozzarella had a beautiful, but light crust with a bright marinara sauce. The tomato pizza had a great balance of flavors- must add the fresh mozzarella for sure! Great turn around time for such flavorful food too.

Yelp
The roasted beet and nostrana salads are the best, I can't make up my mind so wife gets one , I get the other and we share. ....win win. Then get any of their pizzas an a brew....life is good!!

Molly A.

Yelp
Really like the pizza here. Have had The Grove and the Soicy Pepperoni before - and they are both good. Hands down my favorite, however, is the classic, simple margherita. You can really appreciate the quality and flavor of the crust, which has the perfect chew. Very thin, reminded me of the pizza I had in Italy, which says a lot. I have also liked some of their special apps/sides - had some roasted carrots once that were on special and were really tasty. Only criticism I would have is the price point is a bit on the higher side for what you get, though the margherita pizza is pretty decently priced. The other specialty pizzas tend to run ~$22 - not egregious for what you get, and the place has good ambience, but a bit higher. Nonetheless, we will continue to frequent this place. Definitely make reservations in advance if trying to dine in on a weekend evening! Take out service is great.

Robert W.

Yelp
Great Pizza! Was so hungry while traveling and my daughter is a pizza snob so we always try new spots. She of course loved the pepperoni and I had the grove. Yes it has pineapple but was so very good. So many other pies I wanted to try too. Go here for sure.

Paul M.

Yelp
The food here was really great. The service was also solid. This weekend we had family in town and Oven and Shaker was one of the only places in this area that could accommodate a party of our size. They sat our party of 22 outside. We had a really great time here. The servers went above and beyond. From taking photos of our family to bringing pizza after pizza they did a wonderful job. This restaurant is literally a five minute walk from our house and this was the first time here. The arugula salad was large and really fresh. All of the pizzas we got were really tasty. From the pork belly and asparagus to the cheese and salami all of them were yummy. One of my favorite things here was the nonalcoholic ginger ale made with real ginger. It was so refreshing. We will be back soon.

Yelp
Went for dinner with friends on Saturday night. The atmosphere inside was very nice with the dimmed lights and the liquor bottle wall behind the bar, a simple concept. I was very pleased with the staff and service. They were able to make a cocktail I requested, that's not as common, that they had to find in their cocktail book. Huge thank you to the bartending staff! The quality of the pizza was phenomenal; really glad I got The Grove. Can't wait to go back!

Lisa H.

Yelp
Love this spot! If I'm in a party of 2 I like sitting at the bar and with a group of 3 or more I prefer the tables. Great food and drinks are solid. There's even a special cocktail menu. Pizza and salads are my go-to here and very good. Service has been good when I've gone but I do know sometimes it can be understaffed (everywhere right now to be honest) but in my opinion that means we as customers should be patient and kind.

Anika M.

Yelp
Burning thin crust with interesting texture of pizzas. It just doesn't make sense for price and quality of food

Roze N.

Yelp
Din out w friends and we all had a good time and eats. Sat out on patio which had nice, relaxed vibes. We were enjoying ourselves so much we didn't realize it was closing time Went on a weekday so prob earlier closing hour but staff was nice enough to let us wrap it up. Pizza, salads and dranks were tasty. Def higher priced than typical pizza joint but flavors were elevated and worth the splurge.

Anne M.

Yelp
Please don't listen to the lies of people saying this is the best pizza in Oregon. Portland is known for its pizza and this place doesn't come close. Sadly we learned the hard way when we ordered and our food came. Our pizzza was soggy and limp, and FLAVORLESS. Literally LACKED flavor. The price though was fine.. comparable prices to most oven pizza places. But the prices for the flavor of the pizza just isn't that great. The BEST thing on the menu is the Chickpeas- 10000/10. DELICIOUS. AMAZING. Service was fine, I didn't have an issue with it.

Sarah C.

Yelp
I think Oven+Shaker is underrated for how good their food actually is! Known for their pizzas, and they are solid. Good crust, great toppings. Fun to watch them being made in a giant oven inside. But the rest of their menu is worth considering too - their chickpea appetizer is mind-blowingly good, the beet salad is delicious, you can't go wrong with burrata. Good cocktails too. Menu overall is on the pricier side but that's somewhat to be expected in this Lake O area. This restaurant has a trendy, slightly moody interior. They've also got a large open covered patio. The staff has been incredible the few times I've been - friendly, attentive, available, and informed. I definitely recommend Oven+Shaker amongst a number of great choices in this complex!

Yelp
From the moment we walked in it sucked. Here are the take aways: We were told reservations were just about come in and there was only bar seating, by the end of the meal the entire dining room, minus the bar, was empty. We ordered martinis with a twist. They came out with olives. When we pointed it out the bartender said no problem, threw out the olive, and added a lemon wedge and handed it back to us. Speechless. The salad came out with the wrong type of kale and tasted like fish sauce. Entire staff ignored us when they saw we weren't eating it. We've ordered it before at the downtown location, I recommend only getting it downtown. Pizza came out soggy. Again, we've ordered it before downtown and it's night and day difference. In summary with all that went wrong I was left numb for words and just paid the tab to get out. It sucked. The staff here needs experience. Avoid and just go to the OG. They do it better and work harder.

Todd H.

Yelp
What a beautiful setting. Great out doors and covered. Shade is good and it helps to be able to be outside. Well divided seating area to give you a crowded but not on top of each other experience. Pizza was delicious. Love the thin crust and the wood fired cooking. Service was okay. Hard to get refills and it just took forever from getting the bill to giving the credit card to getting it back. We were not in a rush but we noticed how long each stage took. I wouldn't over shadow the quality of the food the drinks and the setting over a slight mis step in the service. Definitely a great date night or family outing.

Yelp
One of my new fave pizza spots, especially for happy hour! And I must say, I didn't know it was possible but I now CRAVE this salad. 〰NOSTRANA SALAD- Very tender leaf but still has a crunch. HUGE portion. Totally splittable for an appetizer. And it's on their happy hour too! A little fishy after taste reminiscent of a fresh Caesar dressing but not too overpowering. Great parm flavor and lots of it. The fat from the dressing compliments the subtle bitterness from the radicchio. And salt from the parm. The Rosemary-sage croutons were my husbands favorite part. They're tiny & not too crispy that they scratch roof of the mouth. It's nice that theyre small so you can get one in each bite. IMO the salad coupled with the cocktail is a perfect match. 〰FRIED MOZZARELLA: Bright & fresh marinara with a great back note of garlic and basil and not too acidic. Coating is not too thick on the moz and well seasoned with a very savory flavor. It's like you're eating something with meat in it. The house pulled mozzorella cheese is totally pullable *picture moment** and delicious. Decided I will be getting this every time. 〰PEP PIZZA: The pizza was huge, delicious and felt special. Their dough is made in-house, hand-tossed and popped in the wood-burning oven (brought over from Italy -- COOL). Not too greasy which a pep pizza can fall victim to sometimes . They have their pizza sauce DOWN. Foldable thin base but structured at crust. Not chewy at all. Great cheese flavor & good char on crust! DRANKS): I rarely go to a restaurant and have multiple cocktails I wanna try. But here, I did. Each one has an interesting twist or a lil sumthin sumthin extra. I only had one drink & it was fantastic (& perfectly balanced: strong ratio). THE ACCIDENTAL SOUR: Gin. Lemon juice. House blended grade A maple syrup. Such a good patio and bathroom too if that matters to you guys/gals. also they have GF crust! So happy this is now located in Lake O!

Yelp
This Oven and Shaker is tremendous. I'd been to the Portland location before, but I like this location better solely for the fact it doesn't take me 20 minutes to find a spot, there is a parking lot with plenty of space! Not only is the staff friendly & the food top notch, there is a good atmosphere. We went with friends and it was still Happy Hour which they had great pizzas and drinks on Happy Hour! The Pearl pizza was one of my favorites and loved the chickpeas, those are great for kids to snack on too. Will definitely be back!

Collin K.

Yelp
soo good!!! amazing drinks food and staff. definitely will be back and would recommend to family / friends.

Mehreen K.

Yelp
House hunting in the area and stopped at this spot for some cocktails and pizza. Located in a trendy strip mall with lots of options. We were craving pizza and they have a delicious menu of different options. I ordered the mushroom with pepperoni and my husband ordered the Italian sausage. Both were delicious. The crust is just right - thin and chewy. We also loved the cocktails that Kyle our bartender mixed. They use fresh ingredients. I could taste the ginger in my Pineapple Train-wreck and my husband had the Louisiana Handshake. The ambiance is upscale casual. We sat at the bar. The hostess and bartender were welcoming and attentive. Nice to have this on the west side. The price is a little more but it's worth it.

Yelp
Great friendly personell and service Fantastic food and we lurvve this place. Good choice.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite restaurants and the best gluten free pizza in town, that I only go to on special occasions because it is a bit pricey. However, after our experience last night I will not return. We made a reservation 2 weeks out to ensure a quick in and out because my daughters were in between dance performances. After ordering our pizzas we were informed by the waiter that they were out of gluten free pizza dough completely which left only salads as an option for dinner which was very disappointing since I made the reservation for the sole purpose of ordering gluten free pizza. I advised management that I needed a bit more than just a salad to tide me over (9 hours of dance moming and I needed real food!). I was informed "this is not a gluten free restaurant" and they have to "prioritize the regular pizza dough." There's no disclaimer anywhere on the menu that warns that they may be out of gluten free pizza dough. I tried to replace with a salad but than Was served with cold steak on the salad, not freshly cooked -- clearly just sitting in the fridge. Ew. Not only did they not comp me for the cold steak, they had the audacity to charge us for the pizza THEY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE plus the extra $6 they charge for a gluten free pizza crust!!!! Had we not corrected the bill they happily would have accepted our $25 for their nonexistent pizza. Very disappointed that they had no dinner options that were gluten friendly and even more disappointed with their terrible customer service!!!!! Oven and Shaker you can do better!!!!

Cindy I.

Yelp
Easy to park. Lots of tall seats with this raised up divider so it makes it a bit awkward for chatting across. But food was great and attentive service. Fun cocktails with fresh fruit. One note to the staff. Those of us in our 40's and 50's aren't fans of being called ma'am. It's very outdated and not needed. Probably 5 different women working there called us that.

Ashley R.

Yelp
Food was SO good!! Super flavorful and fresh. The vibes are amazing and service was great. We will absolutely be back!

Grace C.

Yelp
Oven and Shaker may seem like the underdog in the pizza scene in Portland, but don't underestimate their game! To start, the chef, Cathy Whims, is 6x James Beard nominated. Their pizza uses a sourdough starter and is wood-fired. Talk about a bubbly, perfectly charred crust! To top it off, they have happy hour from 3-5:30 with deals on their pizza, appetizers, and signature drinks! We got their Pearl and Margherita and the Pearl is one of my favorite pizzas in Portland. With garlic, fontina, mozzarella, ricotta, lemon, and fried sage - it is the cheesiest goodness yet unique with the citrusy lemon and earthiness from the sage. It is a must get here! The Margherita was also baller. You can't go wrong with tomato, mozzarella and basil. I wish the cheese was more evenly spread (maybe smaller slices), as some bites were just tomato sauce and felt a bit unbalanced. The crusts were tangy, chewy, everything a pizza crust should be. Oven and Shaker is a solid place to have some good happy hour grub!

albert b.

Yelp
I'm driving home in my car and thought, oh, I have a taste for Oven snd Shaker. They don't take phone orders. When I called their horrible phone number and asked to speak with the manager, I got the owner, Ryan. He proceeded to give me some BS that he's short staffed (everyone is) and I should pull over to place my order online. As I tried to tell him (while he filibustered) that I'd order elsewhere. We pay high prices for everything, why are we paying for bad customer service? poor service.

Maryam G.

Yelp
Great and delicious food and cozy place. As for service. One of the guy waiter (who wasn't even the person that took our order) was rude and annoyed by my friend and I from the start. I felt like he was looking down on us for some reason. First after we got our appetizer he came and said is this all you're getting like we're cheap or something then we said no we got a pizza as well. Then throughout us being there he never bothered to come ask if we need anything even though he kept going to other tables and checking on them. Even when we got our food we wanted to ask for chili flakes and he wouldn't let us finish our sentence before walking away. Then he gave us the tiniest portion of chili flakes for literally one slice of pizza. Overall I felt uncomfortable and judged. Won't be returning to this location.

Mark J.

Yelp
We've been twice in the last month and both times we had legit 5-star experiences. I love this place for cold beer and awesome wood-fired pizza!

Trina H.

Yelp
Loved the downtown portland location so was super happy to learn a Lake O location would be opening up. This is now my tenth time or so coming to this location so I figured it was time for a review. As expected the cocktails are amazing and the pizza is always just perfect. The staff are very helpful when trying to make decisions, always have great food and cocktail explanations and suggestions. Today I went with the bartender recommended personal favorite pizza and I would have never tried it on my own and oh how happy I am that I did! Today I had THE PEARL; garlic, fontina, mozzarella, ricotta, lemon, fried sage with added marinated potatoes (staff suggestion) 1000% delicious. When I find my other pizza photos I will add and update this review. Slowly working down the entire pizza list!

Teresa A.

Yelp
Try them on a visit to LO . I had the Margarita pizza too bland! My husband has the Margarita with sausage and had the same opinion. The crust and some spots were pretty overcooked.

Shannon H.

Yelp
The salads are the best I can't get enough of the Nostrana salad and the kale and grapefruit salad is stellar. I am particularly impressed with the gluten-free crust. Pizzas if you eat them on site, they're not as lovely when delivered or to go because the crispiness is what makes it super killer. Staff are attentive. Things are solid. Makes her to ask for the secret bar menu if you want to try some old-school cocktails that aren't on the standard menu. The space is always a delight to be in super clean. Super comfortable can't go wrong.

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Best pizza in Oregon, comparable to pizza in Italy (sometimes better in our experience). Nice family environment. Nice servers that actually talk to you.

JR M.

Yelp
Had dinner tonight. Food was excellent, had salad and pizza both A+. Service was very good and attentive offered input when asked. Inside is very comfortable and casual. Will be back!

Charlie T.

Yelp
Some good quality pizzas that's located on the westside of town. The place was nicely decorated and spacious. It's best to make a reservation when coming here, to guarantee a seat. The pizzas were a bit bigger than I remember them to be and all the ones we got were good. The sausage and the Grove were my favorite of the ones we ordered. The drinks were also good, but can take a bit of time depending on how busy the place is.

Rodney W.

Yelp
It feels like tradition going to this spot with my family. Pizza is always great! Service is great. Love ordering the radicchio salad with Chickpeas!

Allyson S.

Yelp
Came here the other night with my husband for the first time after seeing a tik tok about how good the food and drinks were. The restaurant has an industrial vibe with lots of wood accents and a warm inviting atmosphere. We arrived with no reservation and we're seated promptly, unfortunately their bartender was out sick so they were only able to serve beer and wine. They had a really good selection of beer and wine and other nonalcoholic beverages as well. I got a glass of the pinot Grigio and my husband got the Kolsch, both were very good and refreshing and decently priced. While we waited for our pizzas we ordered the burrata plate so we could snack and chat. The burrata was ok, lacked flavor aside from the pickled veggies, not good not bad just ok. For dinner we ordered the spicy salami and pearl pizzas. The spicy salami was good and packed with just enough spice to heat things up without being overwhelming. The pearl was hands down the best in my opinion, and because of this pizza I will come back again hopefully when the bartender is there to try their amazing cocktails. Overall a pretty good experience, looking forward to the next visit.

Joe F.

Yelp
My wife and I tried Oven and Shaker tonight for the first time. I have to say it was pretty good. We went early to avoid the rush and got seated right away. Also, it was happy hour so that was a bonus. We shared a salad which was big enough for two and we got two pizzas. Both were very good. We only tried the pepperoni, but it was very well prepared. Good sauce, little pepperonis, and good crust Drinks were good too. By the time we left it was getting quite busy.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Really great vibe, excellent pizza and cocktails were on point. Too bad we were just passing through, would definitely be a regular thing if closer.

Amira B.

Yelp
I came in to order a pizza to-go. I love fennel pizza so I knew that was the one I wanted to try! The hostess was nice and took our order. It took about 25 minutes from when we ordered it but it was also pretty busy inside the restaurant. I love wood fired pizza and I know sometimes they get charred and bubbly (and that's what makes it good!) but we had an entire slice without cheese on it. The pizza itself had a pretty good flavor and the toppings were very very fresh.

Deb K.

Yelp
Delicious food but service lost a star because we waited five minutes to be seated while the host chatted at the bar. Very very busy so that tells you how good it was!

Anthony G.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best pizzas in Lake Oswego. Glad they do pick up now. Great atmosphere and good vibes. Fried chick peas are ridiculously delicious. Salads are pretty good too.

Dorothy T.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great, friendly service! The space is super inviting and relaxed. So happy to have them in LO!

Gerald M.

Yelp
I was very impressed with this new Oven and Shaker location. You cannot go wrong with ordering any of the delicious pizzas here but they also have a good selection of appetizers and cocktails. The restraunt itself is very elegant and stylish. They have wonderful outdoor patio seating. I loved the Italian sausage pizza which had very fresh ingredients including my favorite mama lil's peppers. I also definitely recommend trying their scrumptious crisy chickpeas as they are extremely flavorful and tasty. Service was very friendly and I would definitely return as it was a great experience.

Benjamin H.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating area, covered and with space heaters. My cocktail was good, some pineapple thing. My picky wife liked her margerita pizza. I ordered the mushroom and added sausage, which brought the price up to $25, but they put so much lemon (??) on it that the whole flavor profile spun out of control. I will go back and try it again, but this was a bummer. Also, I know they are claiming to do Neapolitan pizza properly here but the crust was just a bit gummy.

Darci R.

Yelp
Went there tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday. Brought a cake and it was a $20 slicing fee. Mind you, this is a pizza place. I have went to many other high end restaurants and never have been charged. I am so disappointed. It's not like we walked in and spent a small amount of $$. Do better! It's a cake. Your desserts are $6. This used to be my fav place. Now it is not!

Dave S.

Yelp
Amazing food - pizza, salads rate very high. Don't miss the roasted chickpeas, they are a perfect compliment to the meal. I visit weekly as I work my way through the menu. Very good service in a great location.

Jj D.

Yelp
Nice drinks selection and ambience for after hours or casual meal. Not a lot of food selections and pizza, while it has a good appearance, is quite mediocre for the price. Seems like there is more of an emphasis on looks than value and quality.

John T.

Yelp
Great food and service. The pizza and Nostrana (radicchio) salad are fantastic. Great selection of wines, hand crafted drinks, and regional beers.

Doug C.

Yelp
If you really want a horrible experience with pizza, this is the place. Absolutely tasteless. No flavor except for the salty rubbery cheese. I would have to be really stupid to ever go back.

M L.

Yelp
Loud and crowded. Very small pizza with goopy crust. We did carry out. It wasn't worth the $.

Harper S.

Yelp
Absolutely marvelous! Came in here the other day and got excellent service from a fuzzy man at the bar. I'll be bringing my kids next time I have them. The food is beyond amazing, they were busy but no one seemed frazzled and everyone kept a really great customer service attitude. The drinks! Oh my goodness, you have to try the pepper smash. I was expecting overwhelming pepper but it's very subtle. If I wasn't driving I would have had more. Their pizza sauce is to die for and just tied together the toppings on the tomato pizza.

Suyoung L.

Yelp
It's just an okay place. Simple pizza, nothing special but over priced. Meat balls were good but it was disappointing fried mozzarella wasn't even freshly cooked. It wasn't hot to touch, and cheese was hard. I bet they precook them, and heat them up when ordered. Would I go back again? I don't think so.

Sean C.

Yelp
Called in to inquire about some questions that I could not find answers to on their website. Left 2 voicemail, haven't received a call back in 4 days...obviously they don't care to help a potential customer.
