The Hottest Coffee Shops to Check Out, November 2021

"In May 2021, Overcast Coffee Bar joined Metier Racing and Coffee on East Union, its second location after a debut inside the north building of Kaiser Permanente on 15th Avenue in 2020. In addition to single origins and coffee blends, the shop offers wine, beer, and pastries that are locally sourced, with a focus on partnering with minority-owned businesses. And the vivid mural by Stevie Shao is a great attraction while waiting for Americanos, masala chais, or a bike tune-up." - Mark Van Streefkerk, Gabe Guarente

During my morning walk, I popped into Overcast Coffee for my regular iced latte. It was anything but overcast! The coffee was spot on and the service was quick. The cafe was inviting so I stayed to read a bit. I definitely enjoyed my morning while at Overcast Coffee.

Google
I’d give more than 5 stars if I could, another fav place of mine! I only get their matcha latte, and it perfect for the price, $7 for 16oz, and they hand-whisk it everytime! They’re very friendly and give you warm welcome, I tried their croissant once, and it was good! Give this place a try if you like local coffee shop that had warm-welcome vibe

Google
This was our 2nd cafe visit in Seattle, and my mom ordered a medium sized Americano with half and half. She said the coffee was mediocre-it was very diluted. BUT the service was amazing-very nice and sweet.

Google
Best specialty coffee in Capitol Hill and most probably whole Seattle. The Baristas are extremely welcoming and helpful and in addition there are a few seats outside. Special thanks to Jonathan for his hospitality! 🤩

Google
Been to this new location a couple of times and it's become my go-to post-barre shop for busy mornings. In the mornings they only offer quiches for food the times I've gone, but each time I got the quiche Lorraine and it's perfectly filling to get the day started (take into consideration I need a LOT of food to feel awake). They have a well-balanced espresso that's a good blend of fruity and chocolaty with silky body. I neglected to look at the price of retail beans (sorry retail coffee folks) but they had a few different roasts and some cool merch for sale. The ambiance is relaxing, full of plants, and has ample seating options. The service has always left a positive impression, and will be back again soon!

Google
Been waiting to drop in here for quite a while… Finally have had the pleasure of experiencing this fantastic little shop and it's wonderful Espresso!

Google
This is a Very Cool little coffee shop on Capitol Hill. It has great people, and great cookies. Food is available, but sounds like an expanded menu is coming. Sarah was Awesome, and I will be back. Great place to meet friends, and go on a walk about around the neighborhood.

Google
I came at 9AM on a Saturday and there was no line, just a great atmosphere and friendly baristas. They have a variety of drinks and pastries available - I’ll have to come back for their coffee! There is a good amount of space whether you’re coming to meet up with a friend or study/work. As someone looking for good matcha in Seattle, their oat vanilla matcha latte was great.

Yelp
Overcast Coffee in Capitol Hill is a total vibe! The croissant was amazing -- super flaky and delicious. Great latte, I will definitely come back! The staff is super chill and friendly, making the whole experience even better. I loved their dog-picture-wall. Very cute and it gave the whole place personality. The place itself is super cozy with cute decor/lots of plants and comfy spots to chill or work! Definitely a great coffee spot!

Yelp
Overcast Coffee was recommended to me by a few people and only two blocks from where my friend lives! We stopped by two Sunday mornings ago for a drink. I don't think they roast their own coffee here, but they were selling beans from "This Coffee Life" and it's what they use for their drinks too. I liked that they had an extensive pour over list, so I chose the Colombian single origin that morning and I thought it was an enjoyable cup of coffee. My friend got the matcha latte which she enjoyed. I ended up buying a bag of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans for 20.00 and hope it turns out well!

Yelp
- Very cozy coffee shop - The barista made one of the best lattes ever - Fresh croissant - There are places to sit - I recommend it!

Yelp
Wow! First impressions are 10/10. The staff working was so incredibly friendly and connected with every customer. We got the chocolate and ham & cheese croissants and a dark chocolate mocha. The ham & cheese was stellar with really good flavor. Dark chocolate mocha was a little sweet but perfect balance of chocolate and espresso. They also warm up the pastries which ALWAYS makes them better. Will be back for sure. Also, extended hours if you need a place to work into the evening!

Yelp
This was a nice spot. I grabbed a Earl grey lavender latte that was pretty good and sat for a bit to enjoy it and my book. The space was pretty busy on a Monday afternoon! It had a cute ambiance and really knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Set in the heart of Capitol Hill, Overcast Coffee has got great cafe props. It has a pretty small store front and it might be easy to miss it as you walk by its lowkey entrance on12th Ave. East. Inside, it is a small establishment, with a few small tables and lowish ceiling. It is, for lack of a better word, cosy. If I lived in the area, I think this is the sort of spot I would take my laptop and do some work while I sipped on espresso drink. And the coffee? Very good, professionally made. Their baristas are efficient and well-trained in their craft. My normal order cortado had just the right ratio of creaminess to coffee flavor. The beans they use are excellent, if just a touch fruitier than I like. Other offerings I can't speak much to: I haven't tried their pastries, but they looked really appealing as well. I have not yet had the gumption to try a chagaccino (which I couldn't help noticing was really pricey). But if I were around more, I would certainly give it a go. Has it been the best coffee place I've had in Seattle? Well, no--there's a lot of very good competition. But Overcast certainly stacks up well in most regards and if I lived in the neighborhood, this would be a regular spot for me. 4.5 stars. Recommended.

Yelp
Stopped by while in the area and tried the lavender earl grey latte with oat milk-- it was amazing and perfectly balanced. The cafe is very cute inside and welcoming with an array of green plants. The cashier/barista was very helpful and recommended to try the lavender earl grey. Sadly oat milk/ alternative milks are $1 extra which is a lot. Would give 5 stars if alternative milks weren't such a high charge.

Yelp
Finally some people in Seattle who know damn well a cappuccino is not a beverage you have to specify a size for.

Yelp
very tasty latte, divine. Fresh delicious pastries. Nice cozy little coffee shop. It was comfortable. Friendly positive employees.
google avatar

Duong N.

Yelp
The best tasting coffee and bakery items all in one love the chill vibes in there! The baristas are also very kind and friendly! It's my favorite place to get a treat

Asiah R.

Yelp
One of the BEST iced matchas I've ever had. The staff is also always so friendly, very welcoming environment

Yelp
I love this place. The baristas are always so kind and are familiar with a lot of the customers. Clean bathroom, WiFi access, and good, affordable coffee. Super cute decor but my one qualm is that there's never enough seating- they've always been pretty busy when I come in. Felt so embarrassed taking photos of the shop, but it's so cute!!! Thank you very much and sorry to the barista that probably thought I was taking stalker photos of them!!!!

Yelp
I came to try the oat matcha latte. It was pretty good, just a wee bit gritty. The seating was decent for a small place, with tables against a padded bench, small cushy loveseat and easy chair, and counter with barstools, and there's a bathroom. Music at just the right volume to cover conversation. Overall 4.5 stars.

Anielys K.

Yelp
the vibe is so cute! food is super good i got the quiche Lorraine is give it 8/10 maybe little more seasoning but super good! coffee 10/10,, also the tech-decks were a W

Yelp
I almost never leave reviews, but this place should absolutely be supported. I just stepped away from my WFH desk to grab a coffee (out of milk at home so thought I'd treat myself). I first stopped at a coffee shop very well known across the street. The customer service was so bad I didn't even finish my order. Walked straight to overcast coffee to give it a try. Immediate 180! The kindest people, the cutest, cleanest shop with a great playlist, and delicious coffee. Thanks for turning my late morning coffee run back around. Good service from kind people makes all the difference.

Yelp
Never knew this coffee place existed. Got the special coffees which was the nutcracker and pumpkin spice. They had a kick of flavor but wish the coffee taste was stronger. Friendly staff and convienent location.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
This was a great spot to get some work done in the morning. It was quiet and calm, all seating areas were clean. The service was outstanding. They even gave me some tips to make my Iced Matcha Latte just perfect.

Joey E.

Yelp
I don't think they've officially had their grand opening yet, but I love this place! I'm familiar with their location on 15th Ave but now that there's this one with chairs and couches, I try to come as often as possible. Jonathan is always conjuring up new latte flavors and it's something I passionately look forward to. If you haven't been yet, come check it out!
google avatar

Steven Z.

Yelp
Overcast offers a chagaccino (mushroom based) latte, which most shops don't have. I had to try it even though it was $8. Not the best I've had -- when iced, the mushroom flavor is noticeably separated from the rest of the drink and a little washed out. I'd like to come back and try their more standard drinks.

Yelp
Great tasting coffee however the lady barista in the beanie could be nicer. Also, my food came out lukewarm.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop! A great outdoor space to sip or get some work done. Coffee shop, service & space all great!
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
This coffee bar is located inside a bike shop. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. They have selections of sandwiches, pastries and fresh roasted beans.
google avatar

Zainab G.

Yelp
Awesome coffee, pastries and service. Baristas are so friendly and the latte was great! I definitely recommend their orange cardamom vanilla latte, it was so good.
google avatar

Mikayla S.

Yelp
The coffee is fine, but I've had varying experiences here. The first time I came was great, baristas were friendly and there were people sitting inside with their dogs hanging out. I came again with my dog, and the coffee was just okay. I sat down and was asked to leave and told that dogs weren't allowed. I was confused since I had seen dogs there before, and confirmed with other people that dogs have sat inside. Disappointing experience :(

Yelp
Spent a few hours here and managed to get a lot of work done! The spot is shared between a coffee shop and a bike shop, but both are not overly loud. With headphone is not too bad. Only thing is they had the doors open, so if you're looking to hangout during the fall or winter, maybe bundle up in case they keep the doors open. However, having the doors open made the place seem more welcoming due to Covid.
google avatar

Morgan N.

Yelp
Best coffee in town. Always worth the wait to get a legitimate drink in case there is ever a line. It's the *only* place I will order a seasonal drink, otherwise a tasty cappuccino and a pastry is where it is at for me.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Everyone is so kind and makes an effort to get to know their regulars, service is speedy! I highly recommend their chai

Yelp
I go to Metier a lot with my partner, so while he shopped I sat at the bar that has about 8 seats. Decided to get an afternoon snack and super happy to see they had Umami Kushi's ozaku pans! They toasted it for me, and were super friendly. In addition to coffee, they have pastries, non-coffee drinks, to-go food, and beer/wine. I didn't get coffee this time but definitely want to try one next time!
google avatar

Shirin B.

Yelp
This small little coffee shop is combined with a bike place, so don't be thrown off when you read "Coffee & Racing" on the building, since it really is a coffee shop and a bike shop, in one. That being said, this review is solely dedicated to the coffee here, which is excellent. Their iced oat milk latte was the perfect pick me up and the coffee was smooth. The latte made me so happy I probably would have purchased a bike there with enough convincing.
google avatar

Patrick R.

Yelp
Great coffee, great atmosphere. The bike shop intertwined with the coffee shop was a very cool touch. The baristas were both very friendly.
google avatar

Mackenzie L.

Yelp
This is the best coffee shop in the area!! I love to socialize here, and do work. Plus they have student discounts which is so handy for my fellow students. The pastries are 10/10, their coffee is 10/10, their kombucha is a 10/10! Love you overcast :)
google avatar

Eabha ..

Yelp
Great coffee shop to check out. The small sign is a bit overshadowed by Metier's bigger one but it's located in the same building as Metier, just to the left of the door. Lots of outdoor seating and the barista was super nice. I got an iced lavender latte and would definitely recommend it! They have a good selection of scones and loaves to try out too!
google avatar

Liz A.

Yelp
Delicious coffee with friendly staff and an amazing outdoor patio. Perfect spot for a chill morning.

Justin S.

Yelp
Best coffee in Capitol Hill. Service is good, sometimes hard to find a seat but the coffee makes up for it.

Alex F.

Yelp
Calm respite from Broadway. Serves beer and wine. Enjoyed the Okazu Pan. Inside expensive bike store.

Gabi C.

Yelp
Very nice people who are so genuine. Got a latte and a breakfast burrito and both were great! They even brought it to me outside. Plenty of seating if you're trying to get your work done. Would definitely go back!

Bridget S.

Yelp
Some of the best coffee in all of the city. Good energy. Better vibes. I could sit here all day...and I have.

Michael G.

Yelp
Amazing. Period. The staff are the friendliest people you'll meet and also extremely skilled and crafty at making the drink perfect.
