Overflow Coffee - Review - Long Island City - New York - The Infatuation

"Even when it's busy, Overflow Coffee is always an uncommonly pleasant place to get work done. The Long Island City coffee shop has lots of light, the wifi is fast, and outlets abound, as do folk songs by Noah Kahan and Bon Iver. Crucially, they pull a smooth, satisfying shot of espresso and serve pastries from Native Bread and Pastry in Brooklyn. (A generously cheesy parmesan thyme scone? Don't mind if we do.) And anyone with kids in tow can send them to the designated play area in the back of the cafe—just far enough away so neither the grownups click-clacking on their laptops nor the toddlers click-clacking with their blocks hinder each other’s good time. photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick" - Molly Fitzpatrick

Overflow Coffee is a delightful spot that I recently had the pleasure of visiting after a run. What immediately struck me was how refreshingly uncomplicated their menu is – making it easy to choose exactly what you're in the mood for without any overwhelming options. They also have a tempting selection of pastries, reasonably priced between $3.50 and $5. The coffee itself is also priced just right, offering good value for a quality brew. I opted for a hot latte, which was satisfying and hit the spot. To accompany it, I chose a delicious blueberry scone. Both were perfect after a bit of exercise. Beyond the offerings, the ambiance of Overflow Coffee is truly lovely. It's a quiet space with a very appealing aesthetic, making it a relaxing environment to unwind. I found myself quite comfortable there and can definitely see myself hanging out at Overflow Coffee in the future. It's a great addition to the neighborhood!

This local coffee shop is pretty decent, a place to go for the atmosphere and when you need a cup of coffee around the local community. It’s clean and neat, a welcoming entering. The coconut matcha latte was good, not too much milk (I have had excellent ones before so this one not much of my like but different for everyone taste bud). A kid friendly place for children to play and entertain, a small set up play area for children 5 and under. The banana bread is good and moist.

LOVE Overflow, I was in town for 3 days and I went to Overflow every morning (per my friends’ recommendation) while I was there and tried something different each time. I was never disappointed, always delighted. I tried 2 items from their seasonal menu—iced lychee matcha and iced banana milk flat white, both incredible, especially the banana milk, I vote that should be a regular on the menu, I would come from CT to drink that again. I also tried their iced vanilla latte and it was superb. They do just the right amount of sweetness in all their drinks, not too much, not too little. I also got 3 different food items, cardamom twist, chocolate chip cookie, and ham & cheese croissant. Still having dreams about all of them. Take them home and heat them up just a little bit and enjoy with your coffees. Thank me later 😉 I also love the space, I was considering staying to do some homework but I didn’t have the time this visit. They made the seating area very inviting. All around 5 ⭐️! Will be back when I’m in LIC again in a couple weeks!

The best coffee shop in town. Top tier quality coffee & pastries, the owner / entire staff goes above & beyond, and the vibes are always on point. I’d give it more stars if I could. Overflow for the win!

Cute modern coffee spot in LIC. Ordered a cold brew and it was delicious. Bunch of people were there working so if you want a table to sit and enjoy your coffee/pastry, probably would be hard to get an available table. The staff were nice and friendly.

Found my neighborhood cafe!! What a Gem 💎 This newly opened cafe has ample seating (couch etc for those wanting more comfy seating) bright crisp atmosphere, with a dash of rustic charm. Entering, it’s bright and airy, inviting with warm tones. The staff here are warm and friendly, just what you’d want from a neighborhood staple. Tried the ham and cheese croissant, yum! And cardamom pastry, both very good! I’m so glad they carried “ham and cheese croissant” as those are hard to come by at cafes. Cardamom pastry is sprinkled with sugar but not overly sweet. Would prefer no sugar sprinkles but that’s just my personal preference, nothing on quality and taste of their bun. Must try! Oat latte was good! Served in beautiful chic cup and saucer (love the experience with traditional drink wares) it just elevates the cafe experience in my opinion. Latte art was pretty good too (also elevates coffee experience). Their theme is based around community, donating parts of proceeds to local community. The price was also very reasonable; no $9 pastry hype. For 2 pastry and a latte, I Paid $16. Overall this will be my goto coffee spot in LIC.

Drinks were delicious and perfect sweetness. I am not a fan of the fruit and matcha combo but their seasonal lunar new year Lychee Matcha was pleasant. I like that they have a space for children

Yelp
It's rare to find a coffee shop that embraces the third space concept but Overflow fits the bill. Good place to get a bit of work done or let your kid roam a bit in their play area nook. Always friendly, very cute space with plenty of seating, and solid pastries. I'm not much of a cappuccino drinker, but their drip and cold brew is good. Not overly expensive especially for the neighborhood, and could certainly use our support.

Yelp
Was excited to have a new coffee shop in the neighborhood, but unfortunately the flat white I had was mid - you can get a better one at Birch or No Stress. Also, they could use a no-laptop policy on weekends. There wasn't a single seat in the place at like 2 PM when I visited, or I would have stayed and tried more beverages!

Yelp
The positives: This spot is so cute. The ambience is great. Most of the staff is smiling and friendly. The negatives: they have no idea how to make a cappuccino. They don't actually foam the milk enough, then I watched a male barista dump it in as fast as he could when it was so clear it's not the right consistency. 2/3 cappuccinos I ordered from here were undrinkable, and the other was still awful. I would love to make this my everyday spot, and I do stop in for pastries, But who wants bad coffee from a coffee shop?

Yelp
Cute little spot in LIC. Great coffee, nice space and a sweet staff. Love that there's seating inside, grab a seat early if you plan on sticking around to work. It's usually busy.

Yelp
A couple days ago i was in the area looking to get coffee, then get some work done for a couple hours before meeting up with friends. Was recommended this spot and was glad I had the chance to drop by! The inside space is modern with simple Scandi-like design elements that's popular these days, light wood panels mixed with the warmth of exposed brick--there's a seating area in the back with a small play area for kids and faux fireplace. Fairly spacious for a cafe, they have about a couple dozen seats, mostly in configurations of 2 seats with a small table in between, bar seating for 4 in the main seating section. There are also a handful of seats at the bench and counter at the front of the store--this is where I settled myself in with a laptop and a nearby outlet. On a Friday afternoon it was pretty packed with a steady flow of people, and I observed a fair amount of remote working and laptops out. Ordering at the counter was quick and cordial, the staff was friendly, and in 5 minutes my drink was ready. The flat white with oatmilk $5.25 was smooth, creamy and perfect, no complaints there. Would drop by again if I was in the area!

Yelp
This place is super cute! A lot of people bring their laptops and do work here. I enjoyed the matcha latte, they do charge 50 cents for ice though. Also tried one of their cardamom twists (which apparently sells out early) which was not bad but was a bit too sweet for me. Definitely would like to try a croissant next time instead.

Yelp
A true gem in LIC! This coffee shop offers so many fun seasonal drinks, has amazing baristas, and a great space to get work done at. The inside of the cafe is spacious with tons of seating. I came here to try their Lunar New Year menu, which has so many fun and unique drinks. I've been able to try their lychee matcha and their black sesame latte and both were delicious. I loved how you could taste the lychee in the matcha, and the matcha itself was great quality. The black sesame latte was also delicious, but I wish the black sesame was a bit stronger. Nonetheless, both amazing and a go-to spot in LIC. (They also have free wi-fi here!)

Yelp
Their popularity stems from delivering on their promises. The restaurant benefits from its prime spot. The staff combined excellent service with true generosity and friendliness. Many diverse plates have pleased me. This restaurant delivers outstanding value.

Yelp
Greeted immediately, was asked how my holiday was yesterday. Very good customer service here. Personally, didn't appreciate the crying baby while sipping my coffee. The front of the coffee shop has a cute little corner to sit while you look out the window. Love the cozy wooden feel to this place. There's a bunch of different style stools. Some people came here for wifi. Some people came here just to sip coffee. The prices are reasonably priced for the area. The exposed brick is really a nice touch to this location. This is definitely a go to place if you're on Vernon. I'm not sure if there are outlits in the back, but a lot or people had their laptops at the table. They have some baked goods here too. The plants in the front are a nice touch. There is a kid friendly section in the back from what I noticed. Unfortunately they don't allow pets. I would love to pet a dog or cat while sipping on some good coffee. I only got a regular cup of coffee. I appreciate that I was showen the amount of milk going in my cup. Fun fact this used to be a place called matted that had LIC memorabilia.

Yelp
I love coffee and I love cafe's in general. This cafe was beautiful. I didn't take a picture of the inside sadly, but I did take a pic of my coffee. I got a latte, regular, didn't add any extra sugar or anything, it definitely didn't need it. On top of the coffee being fantastic, the staff was great. They were nice and friendly. One of them even apologized for the latte design not being pretty, which she didn't have to, but it was great service and the cafe was cozy. When I go back to the cafe I will take more photos. Next time I go by I'm definitely going to try some of the other items. I definitely had a great experience, the coffee was delicious and I need to try it again.

Yelp
The two women working welcomed us in with authenticity. The shop was busy for a Friday afternoon (yay!) but even so, we were able to find 2 seats. Great vibes. Smooth coffee. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Will be back.

Yelp
Overflow Coffee is a relatively new addition to LIC that my local friend recommended, and it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, who took the time to answer all my questions about the menu. I decided on the spiced pear cappuccino ($6) from their specialty menu, which the barista described as subtly flavored with a hint of spiced pear. She was spot on as it had a delightful aroma of pear that added something special to an otherwise solid cappuccino. The space is cozy and well thought out, with about six small tables that seat two, a high-top seating area along the wall that seats four, and a couple of chairs by the window. There's also a kids' area with seating and activities, making it a great option for families. For those looking to work, there are outlets along the walls and reliable Wi-Fi. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with cheerful Christmas decor and music playing during my visit, which added a festive touch. While sitting down to read, I recognized the owner, Chris, from his responses to reviews and struck up a conversation with him. He shared the story of how he and his co-owners, all local residents, started the café as a way to create a welcoming "third place" for the community. He shared how they decided to donate proceeds from every sale to the Renew Queens community center ( https://www.renewqueens.org/ ) to help support neighborhood growth. Chris also spoke about how much LIC has developed over the past decade and how Overflow hopes to be part of that progress. Overflow sources its baked goods from Native Bread and Pastry, and everything I tried was delicious. They clearly care about the quality of their offerings and the experience they provide for customers. I was planning to visit other coffee shops during my time in NY, but after chatting with Chris and enjoying the atmosphere, I might just have to come back to try more of their menu. For Pokémon Go players, there are two gyms reachable from inside the café! Overall, Overflow is a fantastic spot to grab a coffee, do some work, or catch up with friends. Chris said that they have big plans for Overflow, and I can't wait to see how they grow as well as the impact they make. Highly recommend stopping by!

Yelp
Overall a great cafe to chat, work, or even play. would come back. First time I came on a Saturday morning and there was just a constant stream of people coming in and out the whole time. It's definitely very popular! Second time I came on a Friday morning, definitely more of a coworking vibe with a couple people hanging out. It filled up around 10AM (tables taken, counter space available) but people were still coming in and out for their coffee! Ive had the hojicha latte which was great, there aren't too many cafes that serve this. Their cappuccino is good too but not my favorite, I prefer having a stronger coffee taste. The almond milk stood out more in this cappuccino. They have self serve sugar and cinnamon. Alternative milk is .75 extra I tried the cardamom bun which I didn't like, it's more of a denser pastry with a lot of sugar on it, but you do get hints of cardamom. It kind of taste like a prepackaged pastry. The almond croissant was solid but also nothing special. I still inhaled the almond croissant with my cappuccino if that says anything. There's a little play area for children, so there were a LOT of families w/children on Saturday morning (I've never seen so many strollers outside of a school life lol), and a couple on Friday morning as well. It usually does down closer to 11-1130. There's wifi, one restroom, and a couple outlets here and there, but not a lot.

Yelp
Nice option in the area, friendly and accommodating staff. A few tea options. Scone was a bit dry and claggy unfortunately. Worth trying and seeing what you like.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe in the neighborhood! The staff are all super friendly and there's plenty of seating. We got a chocolate chip cookie and almond croissant. Unfortunately the staff couldn't warm up the cookie (no oven in front), but it was still delicious. The almond croissant was perfectly flaky too. Would definitely come back for a sweet treat and to try their cold brew!

Yelp
I recently stopped by Overflow to grab a chai latte. It opened up recently in an area where a small coffee shop is much needed. The space is open, airy, and really nice. Seems like a nice place to sit and do some work. The service was really friendly. My chai latte was good -- not too sweet, which is my preference. Prices are what you would expect in this area. I enjoyed my stop in Overflow, and I will definitely come back.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of the inside or my Spiced Pear Cappuccino, but can confirm the ambiance is very relaxing. Light wood with a few accent pillows and chairs sprinkled around created a warm and welcoming environment. I don't normally go for a cappuccino, but the temperature was perfect and the *hint* of Spiced Pear was just enough. Any more would have been too over powering. I'd definitely go back and hang for a bit!

Yelp
I was taking a stroll with my baby when I spotted this new coffee shop in Vernon! I couldn't resist and decided to drop by to see what they had. The menu is pretty straight forward, the coffee beans they use looked interesting, I chose to go with a matcha latte though. The matcha was on point, can't really go wrong with it! And they had a few baked goods, but the sold out of most of them, so I ended up getting the peanut butter cookie. The service was great! The barista and cashier were extremely nice and very friendly! The coffee shop itself is cute and a great place to work from. The only thing I would have loved to see is some gluten free baked goods and labels to indicate what's what. And it's not easy to enter the coffee shop with a stroller, there's a step that you have to climb to get in and the doors are too narrow to enter, so they actually have to open both doors for the stroller to get in. Maybe consider getting a small ramp and having both doors open. Other than that awesome little coffee shop, can't wait to stop by again to try some more items!

Yelp
Thrilled to discover this new gem in LIC! Upon entering, I was struck by the spacious, modern interior - a beautifully designed space that's perfect for both work and leisure. Noticing the laptops scattered about, it's clear this spot is a hub for productivity. A thoughtful touch is the designated play area for young children. I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk and may partner ordered a flat white, both of which were expertly crafted and delicious. Friendly staff added to the welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a great addition to the LIC coffee scene.

Yelp
I came to Overflow Coffee a few times & really enjoy the layout of the space. I love the natural light & atmosphere, and the service is generally quick. The iced vanilla latte is solid & worth trying, but I found the matcha and cold brew to be quite underwhelming. This spot also can get quite busy, especially on Fridays, so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you want to work from home.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Beautiful interior for working, hanging out, killing time. I ordered the matcha latte and it tasted nothing more than hot milk :(. I'd recommend ordering one of their coffee drinks instead. Hopefully those taste better. I ended up not even finishing my drink

Yelp
Overflowing with joy and positivity! Love this place! Great people, great service, great vibes. The coffee and pastries are amazing! One of the best almond croissants I've had in this area. They even have hojicha on their menu! The space is great for work, and they even have a children's area for kids to play and train to be future baristas This is going to be my new go to coffee shop in LIC. 10/10!

Yelp
(Relatively) new cafe in LIC! Staff was super friendly, and the cafe had a nice ambience with a good amount of seating. i got the Cafe Americano, which tasted great. They also had assorted baked goods/pastries in the front if you're looking to grab a bite. Price was pretty in line with other LIC cafes. Would recommend if you're looking for somewhere to sit or just grabbing a coffee!
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
An asthetically-pleasing coffee shop, with high ceilings and a sparse design. I was excited to come across this place and its fresh presence on Vernon. But like a typical coffee spot, it can get loud, sitting side-by-side with 20yos catching up while hopped up in caffeine. Also volume can be a bit much with lots of parents and kids on weekends. Otherwise, it's a good place to sit for a bit. Last thing - was not thrilled a special edition black seasame latté was nearly $9 with tax, when adding an espresso shot. Felt like without the espresso it shouldn't be designated "a latté," at all.

TJ R.

Yelp
I've been to Overflow several times, and the staff is incredibly sweet and friendly each time!! Interior is very clean with a decent amount of tables, making it a good spot to catch-up with a friend or work from home. For pastries, I've only tried the croissant and thought it was meh. The lattes and drip coffee are great though!! I love that they have maple syrup as a sweetener option too. Only critique is that I wish the espresso was a bit stronger, but I do admit that I'm someone who likes pretty strong espresso (due to my unfortunate caffeine addiction haha) Overall would definitely recommend! This is so far my favorite coffee shop in LIC, and the only one I have re-visited!

Yelp
Awesome spot! Great vibes, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and good coffee. Our neighborhood desperately needed more cafes / coffee shops, so I'm glad this place opened up.

Sofia S.

Yelp
Super nice customer service and the vibes are so chill and relaxed I loveeee it! I got an iced vanilla oatmilk latte it was great!

Dylan J.

Yelp
The most disrespectful coffee shop I've been to in nyc. The barista just poured the milk in the latte as fast as he possibly could, ruining the latte. The espresso is so watery, it's undrinkable. This is a 0/10. Just disgusting. I hope they go out of business. They either have no idea what they are doing or hate their customers.
google avatar

Nathan K.

Yelp
Such a great cafe in Long Island City. If you want a spacious cafe to work at or even bring your kids to, this is the place to go. The staff here is extremely friendly and I love that this was only a little outside of Manhattan.
google avatar

Brittany A.

Yelp
Amazing coffee shop new to the neighborhood! Have been twice for Chai and Latte and both were wonderful! Looking forward to trying some baked goods next time!

Peter Y.

Yelp
Overflow Coffee was a pleasant surprise and a great addition to the LIC coffee scene, particularly around Vernon where there haven't been many choices. I'm very picky when it comes to coffee shops I like, and I was pleased to find that Overflow had the exact combination I love -- fantastic space, fantastic vibes from the staff and mix of patrons, and most importantly -- fantastic coffee (I learned from one of the owners that his business partner previously managed one of the high-end coffee shops in Manhattan). My latte was perfect, and I'll definitely be a regular here!

Yelp
This is my new favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood. Everyone is super nice and the coffee is fantastic. Also, a really great amount of space.
