25 Essential South Bay Area Restaurants

"A husband and wife duo opened Ox 9 in 2017, aiming to bring their favorite delicacy of Lanzhou handpulled noodles to the Bay Area. Paying homage to the centuries-old craft of making the unique style of noodles, every chef who works at Ox 9 has learned the technique from a master chef in Lanzhou, China. The noodles are served with warm, rich broth that’s been simmered with 30 spices for more than six hours. Visitors can customize the thickness of their noodles at Ox 9, which have a specific water-to-flour ratio that garners the optimal chewiness and slurpiness. Though the restaurant began with one location in Milpitas, it’s since expanded to Cupertino and San Mateo, with another set to open in Fremont." - Octavio Pena, Cathy Park

Google
One of the six locations in the Bay Area. The menu may have small variation from location to location! Service is very nice, very patient and friendly to answering our questions. The only way to order is to scan a QR code. The online menu will show the picture of what you are ordering. My wife likes the thin noodles but I like the thick ones. We both get our noodle fix for sure tonight. The portion is decent and all the noodles we ordered are flavorful. We need to come back soon!

Google
Noodles cooked perfectly. Choose from 6 different widths. Pig Ear and Tofu w/preserved egg recommended. Slight Sichuan on the pig ear but not overpowering. Flat noodles with ground pork were a nice non-spicy option for kids. Also ordered the intestine noodle soup, which was delightful. Def coming back here again.

Google
Typical 蘭州拉麵 (north west Chinese noodles) Lamb platter is tasty in terms of value. Beef roll is somewhat delicious. Wide noodle has a special taste after chewing. Overall, I would recommend this place.

Google
Got the rib noodle soup with large flat noodles. The noodles were nice and chewy and the broth was good. I do wish I had paired a different noodle size with this broth, though. Because the noodles were so big, the broth didn't quite stand up to it. I would go with a medium or small round noodle with the noodle soup. This large flat noodle would probably go really well with one of the dry dishes.

The food is authentic and reminiscent of Northern China cuisine. I am very surprised how uniform in size and shape the hand pulled noodles are. They must be made by a chef with decades of experience. The broth of the Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup was the best with a unique flavor. The dumplings are a little salty and the chili oil for the Spicy Wanton is not very spicy. For the price, they give a reasonably good portion. Overall, it is an average good Chinese place that is worth a return to try the different types of noodles. The staff are excellent and treat their customers well. They forgot one of our dishes and when we came back to grab it, they apologized and threw in a Shredded Potato Salad for us free of charge. Thanks!

Google
First, I'll say that I was pretty disappointed that even when you dine in, you're served all of your food in to-go containers. Makes for lousy presentation and crispy food that becomes steamed/soggy, and is bad for environment. The general chicken was fine. Nothing to write home about. The cold thin-sliced beef was good. Was a little skimpy on the Szechuan peppercorn (numbing flavor). Otherwise pretty tasty. The hand pulled noodles (medium thick) had a nice chew, but the broth was lacking...not much depth/one-dimensional. Barely any meat in it. Pricey for what you get. The beef roll was pretty good. Decently crispy. Flavor was fine. Overall, it's decent food, if a little pricey for what you're getting. I guess everything is pricey these days when it comes to food inflation! Probably worth a try if you're looking for this type of food and are in the area.

3/3/2024 @ 11:30am, you can get different size noodles. No physical menus. Use your cell phone with QR code to order. Would have been nice where patrons can see the noodle pulling techniques.

Enjoy all the dishes we ordered tonight! Highly recommended their beef noodle and think it is delicious and authentic!

Yelp
Still my fav spot in the Bay Area for hand pulled noodles! It's a small-ish sit down restaurant, but service is quick and there are lots of options to choose from. Each table has a descriptive card detailing their noodle options (e.g. thick, thin, flat, round). You can order via the QR code on the table or with one of the staff to modify your order. FOOD: *Chili oil noodles -- oh my goodness I've had this at least 6x now and can't seem to order anything else. I will say, the flavor is better at this Milpitas location than the Cupertino one. The Cupertino location's is more dull in flavor. I love how they cut the vegetables up since you'll need to do some mixing for the chili oil sauce to cover everything thoroughly. It has such a nice tang to it and the vegetables satisfy the need for a different texture. My friends, parents, and partner's family enjoyed it too! PARKING: A lot of storefront spaces had signs saying they were reserved, but overall the plaza has a manageable amount of parking. The longest walk you'd have to make is prob 2 min.

Yelp
Came here around 7pm with 2 friends and the place was almost full! We got sat quickly though and the ambiance was cozy and comfortable with conversations all around. The price for the portion is very reasonable. $14.59 before tax + tip for my braised pork intestines noodle soup with small round noodles. I kept eating yet it felt like there was still a lot left! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Such big servings for a reasonable price! I got the braised beef small flat noodle stew and it was so yummy! It came with ALOT of noodles and meat that I saved half for another meal. The broth was really flavorful and it definitely hits the spot during a cold day. The service was really fast! We got our food very quickly and we were out of the restaurant within an hour. The staff were really friendly even though we had little interaction since we order through a QR code.

Yelp
It was a cold day, and my friends and I wanted some soup! We opted for Ox 9, and were nervous to come 45 minutes before closing. The servers were still so nice and told us to sit anywhere! The shop is relatively spacious with lots of seating. They have lots of traditional decorations, and a little moving noodle soup machine display in front! I got the Cold Noodle with Chicken Slices with regular round noodles, and it was very good! The noodle portion was very generous, and I had enough chicken and veggies to balance it out. I forgot it had the numbing spice in the sauce, and I should've requested to take it out, but otherwise it was a great dish. My friends got the noodle soups and also said it was good, but they needed more spice. They had to put a lot of chili oil to make it to their liking. Definitely a nice, cozy spot for some good noodle soup!

Yelp
I decided to drop by from a co-worker recommendation, the food here is too oily? I didn't know this specific joint had a 25$ minimum to pay with card. I found myself ordering items I wasn't precisely interested in besides the noodles dishes. My focus was on the braised beef noodle soup, I wasn't fond of it due to the oil content. If a noodle item has too much oil, it will cover the sides of the bowl and remain on the surface? Even at this moment, my body isn't handling the excessive oil consumption very well so I advise people to know what they are getting into. Taste wise it is okay, there are a lot of other places with better options without excess oil?
google avatar

Yesah B.

Yelp
[tl;dr soup a bit too salty, but still a great noodle soup overall; spicy wontons have almost no spicy and is just sugar and oil; $25 minimum to pay with CC; Good food but really could be better] I got the Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Beef Noodle Soup (small flat) and Spicy Wontons. I love the prices on the food but I always forget there's a $25 minimum fee to use credit and I forgot my cash. Sometimes I am hesitant to even come here because of that rule. But I was hungover and wanted soup. The noodle soup is good but the saltiness catches up to you. When they first opened, it wasn't this salty. I usually love to finish my soup but I ended up just finishing everything else. The noodles were cooked perfectly and tasted like pasta. It goes well with it. The beef was tender and portions were generous. I personally believe this goes well with bok choy but they don't have any (iirc) The spicy wontons need work. Well mainly the sauce. It's suppose to be sugar and spice and everything nice but what I get is sugar and oil. The dumplings are fantastic but the sweetness of the sauce off puts it all together. I wanted it to be a DTF contender but not like this. Still yummy

Yelp
Great place!!!! My friends and I were looking for a place to eat with homey food and glad we found this spot! It was really easy to find and we were seated right away. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced and portions looked very big. The staff was very attentive and friendly and was able to get our orders quickly and got our food to us right away. The food really hit the spot and would recommend anyone to try it out!
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
This spot is so delicious! Huge portions at a very affordable price and they have a variety of menu items. My favorites are the sesame paste liang pi and the spicy wontons! The liang pi is so delicious and authentic and the spicy wontons have the most flavorful chili oil sauce. My boyfriend also enjoyed the braised beef stew noodles with the medium round noodles. The service here is quick and the staff is attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend this spot! :)

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place after a night out during lunch time. There was no wait and my party was seated right away. We order off a QR code and the food came out relatively fast. The broth of the noodle soup is amazing and the meat is super tender. I like how we get to choose the type of noodle for our soup. I got the thick wide noodles and my friend got the thin noodles. Would def come here again next time I crave a noodle soup!

Yelp
Been coming here for quite a few years now, and it's definitely one of the most authentic spots for Lanzhou hand pulled noodles in the bay. Prices are reasonable considering inflation. Favorites include the lanzhou beef noodle soup and the spicy meat paste noodles (don't sleep on this one, it's so good!) They have other dishes besides noodles that are also really good (at least the ones we've tried) specifically the pork/shrimp dumplings and pig ears. In a small plaza but worth the visit!

Yelp
Great good and cozy clean place. Loving the different noodle sizes to choose from. I liken the chewiness of thicker noodles like the knife shaved noodles back in Taiwan and the large flat noodles are reminiscent. While it is not as Q (chewy) as knife shaved, it was still enjoyable. Later on I had the noodle when it was cold and the noodle lost more of its firmness. The noodles here are best enjoyed fresh! Spicy wontons were top notch as well. The size was large and appropriate compared to some dinky wonton fillings I've had in places here in Sacramento (Yang Kee Dumplings). Liang pi noodles were great as well and at a discount of $4.99 on a Sunday! Prices went back up on Monday so maybe go on the weekends for more deals? Looking forward to bringing my parents here when they come to Bay Area to visit

Yelp
I got the beef noodle soup to go and really appreciated the way they separated the soup from the noodles and meat, as well as the chili sauce. Overall the meal was pretty good and was enough for two meals. I thought the broth was nice and on the lighter side and I like all the herbs and parsley and stuff. I miss the chew you get from qq noodles thicker noodles, and the thicker cut beef chunks you get. On the other hand, ox9 felt like it used higher quality ingredients.

Yelp
Hack: get the hand pulled noodle and then extra soup and noodles, you basically get a whole new bowl for like $7-8 Food: * Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles (The OG): A classic, with beautifully chewy noodles and a light, flavorful broth. The touch of chili oil adds a nice kick, but I wish there was more beef and radishes as it leaned heavily on the noodles and soup. * Beef Wrap: The wrap was perfectly flaky and crispy, with tender beef inside. It was a great balance of textures and flavors. If you take it home, throw it in the air fryer and it tastes just as amazing. Ambiance: Nothing too special here--just a simple, no-frills setup. It's the kind of place you go for the food, not the decor, and that's totally fine for what they offer. Service: Service is quick and efficient. The staff are typically Chinese aunties, and some locations may require a bit of Mandarin practice, but they keep things running smoothly. You order on your phone, and the food comes out fast, which is always appreciated. Overall: Ox 9 delivers on their noodles, especially if you're craving a traditional Lanzhou-style meal. The food is solid, though the portions of beef could be a bit more generous. I'm excited to return and try the braised beef stew and stewed pork ribs next time! I will say, I think I like the one in Cupertino a little more, better flavors overall or it could have just been the day.

Yelp
Let's do an update as it's been a couple years. So let's do it! Today we ordered again by phone and easily placed an order. They said it would take 15 minutes. It took like 12-13 which was perfect as it took us like 10 minutes to get there and find parking. Speaking of parking...it's hard to find parking. It's a small lot, it's busy. I'm sure a good amount of these folks are at this place or the restaurants that also share this small shopping area. You're not able to eat inside and it was quite busy when we came. We of course took to-go. We got the shrimp dumplings with pork and chive (basically 3 flavor dumplings) and the spicy wontons. The shrimp dumplings were solid. I'm still burping and reliving it. Something about pork gives me burps. Anyways, it came with this spicy crunchy chili which was spicy and savory. It was great. The spicy wontons were good but a little thick in the wrapper. The filling was not a lot but it's fine. It made up with the sauce which was a little sweet, a little spicy and I wish we had something else so I could just put it on...wait I did end up dumping the dumplings in the sauce. Yum. Though it's not my favorite spicy wontons or dumplings, it's definitely a good solid choice for it.

Yelp
We ordered the spicy wanton and beef soup with medium round noodles. Service was fast and efficient. The broth with a hint of chili oil was well-balanced and delicious. I'll certainly return when I'm craving soup!

Yelp
Been coming here occasionally these past few months - I've dined in as well as ordered take out. It has consistently been a good hit for the whole fam - even my picky Asian parents. The broth is tasty but not overly salty. The beef is always tender - not chewy or dry. And the fresh noodles are cooked al dente. Helps that there are noodle choices of every size to suit everyone's tastes (from small round to large "belt flat"!). Our personal favorite is the Braised Beef with Chinese Pickles. I love the mix of the beef with the crunchy pickled vegetables. My personal noodle of choice is good ol "Regular Round". It has that great "QQ" or al dente texture. The boys like the large flat noodles. Both are great choices! Order experiences have been easy - you order through your phone and it comes out pretty quick. Overall, it's been a great go-to for casual soup noodles.

Yelp
This is one of my absolute favorite noodle shops. Everything I've had here is to die for. Definitely check it out if you are in the area! The service is also usually very friendly.

Yelp
I love handpulled noodles! Whenever I have this craving, chili oil wide noodles are what always come to mind. I'm not really a broth kind of gal, so I usually go for the dry noodles, but every so often I'll get broth. Food: 4/5 I haven't tried too many handpulled noodle places around the bay, so this Ox 9 Lanzhou is one of my go to places (this location and the Cupertino one). Anything that I order here always fulfills my cravings and it's been a spot I bring my friends to. The spicy wontons are a must as well for me. The only thing I have against the food are the broths, because they're more on the salty side and when you increase the spice level, you're really only just adding the chili that sits on the side of tables. It takes away from the flavor of the broth, but it doesn't really have too strong of a flavor without it. But, I like spicy and always wish for things to be spicier, so take that as you will. Staff/Service: 4/5 Every time I've gone, I haven't had an issue with the staff. They aren't super attentive naturally, so if you need something, you'll have to flag them down. But, once you do, they normally get you whatever your need in a timely manner. Service is usually pretty fast even if it's super crowded and busy. Space: 3/5 There isn't a whole lot of seating inside, but you don't really spend too much time waiting. Unless you go at the busiest hour. Despite it being small and usually full, volume wise, it doesn't get to be very loud which is super nice. However, this place is larger than the one in Cupertino (from what I remember). The parking lot is tiny, so keep this in mind when you're deciding on what time you eat here.
google avatar

Jadyn L.

Yelp
The food here is very flavorful. There's a nice kick to the braised beef noodle soup and the beef is super tender. The place is a little small and it got crowded for Sunday lunch. The staff was nice and helpful. You order online and I forgot to ask for no cilantro but they were able to honor my request even after the order was submitted. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Stephanie X.

Yelp
Love the dry noodles here! Was slightly bland but after some vinegar and chili oil was so good.
google avatar

Sherry Y.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy ground pork dry noodles. The Large flat noodles were good but overall I wasn't a fan of the dry noodle. It does come with a clear broth on the side. I enjoyed the Beef Noodle soup more, which is the classic clear broth but very flavorful. The star of the show was the cucumber with garlic sauce appetizer. It's probably one of the best one I tried so far. You order via QR code and you pay at the cashier. The staff was friendly.
google avatar

Tian W.

Yelp
Decent place to get hand-pulled noodles. Of their available locations, I prefer the Cupertino location over this one because that one has the option for braised beef. This location has a more limited menu with only pork ribs, sliced beef, vegetables, or shrimp. Meat portions were small for all the dishes we got, including the beef, shrimp, and pork ribs. However the soup was great and the chew on the noodles was amazing. For the noodles, I would recommend defaulting to the regular round or large flat noodles as the smaller ones aren't very substantial and the larger ones are almost always undercooked. While this place is not terrible, the limited menu and lower quality prevents me from wanting to come back to this specific location.
google avatar

H.A. V.

Yelp
We stood mesmerized by the noodle maker as he makes serving after serving of noodle. All hand stretched with perfect uniformity. Then immediately pinched off and dropped into the blanching water. This was the show while we were waiting for a table. Once seated we feasted on delicious beef stew soup that was perfectly seasoned. Of course the star of the dish was the noodle, lively chew and perfect width. The interior was not flashy, just your standard Chinese well lit diner. It was definitely not a huge place so there might be a bit of a wait. Be patient and entertained, your taste buds will thank you.
google avatar

Lindsey T.

Yelp
I still have dreams of their chili oil noodles. In general, I think this restaurant is more focused on food rather than service, so I'd describe it as more casual! I tried their chili oil noodles, dry pork noodles, and their cucumber salad. I'd say their dry noodles and cucumber salad is okay (above average but not my favorite in the Bay), but their chili oil noodles are sooooo good. One thing I really like is the fact that you can easily customize the noodle size. I love fat and thick noodles and they have many options. I personally have never seen their 'belt' noodle (the widest noodle option they have) at any other restaurant before and it was very interesting to try! Pricewise, it is very affordable! You can get a good sized appetizer for less than $5 so it's a good place to check out if you're on a budget.
google avatar

Angie H.

Yelp
Listen. This place blew my mind. We got the beef hand pulled, I got long flat noodles and my spouse got small flat and it was a spiritual experience. That clear broth was yummmm, the beef was high quality and melted in my mouth. The chili oil was ridiculous like I was wondering when we could back after just a few bites. It was poppin on a Sunday night and they didn't have a seat right away but we only needed to wait like two minutes, if that. It was like that the whole night! Super bustling and if there was anyone waiting in the vestibule, it was only for a few short minutes. You order via QR code and pay manually. No bells and whistles as far as decor aside from some cute murals and a mechanical noodle bowl that I'm obsessed with tbh. It wasn't too loud. Hosts and servers were super friendly. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
google avatar

Rosie W.

Yelp
Starchy heaven. I love freshly made noodles. Their dry spicy wide noodles is amaaazing. I didn't think I'd like cold dry noodles but this dish changed my life. The dish comes with a variety of pickled vegetables that gives every bite with the noodles a nice crunch. The beef noodle soup was also good but the spicy dry noodles takes the win.
google avatar

Ling L.

Yelp
I got the Lanzhou hand pulled beef noodle soup. The clear broth, hand pulled noodles, chili oil, thinly sliced beef. ALL OF IT. Chef's kiss. You know a restaurant is good when their local ethnic people go there to eat. Everyone was speaking in Mandarin and I had no idea what they were saying. Will 100% come again.
google avatar

Jo C.

Yelp
Food and ambiance was great! The last time I was here was during COVID. The meals were on takeout containers. This time it's in real bowls and plates. The dishes taste way better and came out hot. There are no menus, except for one displaying the noodles they offer. You order and pay via QR code. The spicy wontons were delicious and taste better than Din Tai Fung's. The small flat noodles was chewy and light. The broth was flavorful and the soup came with the right amount of noodles, beef and veggies.
google avatar

Jina M.

Yelp
Clean decor. Perry good service. The noodles were standard. Nothing terrible but nothing to write home about. Tried the jajang - flavor 1 dimensional and salty. The cold noodles were pretty good with the sesame sauce. Bouncy texture that we enjoyed. The original soupy noodle dish they are known for was ok. Had interesting medicinal taste but the broth seemed very thin and watered down. The texture of the noodles were...standard. We just got the regular noodles but maybe we were supposed to select another? Food was alright. Can't give less than 4 because really nothing was wrong with it. Just wasn't all that exciting
google avatar

Gagan S.

Yelp
One of the best hand-pulled noodle spots in Bay Area. Somewhat busy on a Sunday afternoon but wait was minimal. Service was quick and clean; nothing out of the ordinary. Casual vibes suitable for small or large groups. Pictured here is my personal favorite -- the dry ground pork with regular round noodles. The noodles when mixed with the pork brings a tingling and numbing sensation which I very much like. There is the option to choose between round or belt noodles as well as the size/thickness of the noodles (small, regular, or large). There are many other options to choose from including: the spicy wonton appetizer and most notably the chili oil noodles which are both great (both are not spicy in my opinion). 10/10 will come here again.

Yelp
We stopped by here for dinner after arriving and checking in to the hotel. If you speak mandarin that helps a lot. My mandarin isn't the best but it got the job done lol. You can scan a QR code and order your food and it's pretty quick service. Ordered the slow braised rib with flat large noodles and I wished I ordered the small flat. The flavor was very flagrant and fills my belly. The ribs were fall off the bone. Would recommend. It's not spicy but does have a little kick to it. Hubs ordered the Langzhou special with the large flat noodle. He said the flavoring was perfect. He only wished to order the small flat noodles. The noodles were perfectly textured and not too chewy but it just was big. The kids all shared a beef fried noodle with medium round noodle. The taste was good. Not too salty. The kids all ate it and my kids are pretty picky eaters. The beef was tender but my kids didn't care for it but I liked it. Lots of veggies which I like. For the price it's very decent with good portion. Recommend for people to try.

Yelp
My friends and I came on a Saturday for lunch and got seated quickly and the ordering process on our phones was convenient. The restaurant is very casual and homey--a great place to grab a quick meal! We got the spicy wontons and the pork ribs noodles. I had the large flat noodles; they had the perfect chew to them and were cooked very well!!The dish also came with a substantial amount of pork. The biggest bummer was that my soup was extremely salty. Don't get me wrong--every part of this dish was flavorful, but they just went overboard with the salt. I only finished half my meal before I couldn't take it anymore. The spicy wontons were delicious, though! I'd return just for that and a second chance to try their noodle soups again. Hopefully, my bad experience was just a fluke.
google avatar

Yelp
the quality of noodles at this place is 5/5. i love how you can choose the shape/thickness of your noodle, both for dry & soup dishes (my personal fav is small flat). the noodles themselves don't congeal either, which is a huge plus for me. my go-to is typically a dry noodle, but decided to switch it up with the Wonton Soup. we also ordered the Beef Noodle Soup & Shrimp noodle soup. all 3 meals were filling & portions were generous, but wish there was more flavor in the broth. the appetizers however were amazing! the Cucumber Salad & Spicy Wontons were addicting--i always have to get both every time i come here. food was quick to come out overall.

Yelp
Food: 8/10 Service: 7/10 Portion size: medium Wait time: no wait to sit at 1:30pm but it got busy after we sat and people had to wait; 10 minutes for our food to come out after placing our order Value: 7/10 Hubby found this "new to us noodle place" so we decided to give it a try! We ordered the Lamb soup noodle with large flat noodles and the Lanzhou soup noodle (which is beef slices) with small flat noodles. Super cool and fun how you can pick from 6 different noodle options! To order, you just scan the QR code which is on the table sign, then submit your order and pay at the end of your meal. The lamb noodle soup is more of a clear, healthy broth soup and comes with radishes and bok choy. The dish also came with lots of lamb pieces but could be more tender. The Lanahou noodle soup has a Spicy kick to it. It comes only with radishes and I wish it also came with bok choy veggies. The meat was super good and tender that it melted in my mouth. I wish it came with more slices of beef, but beef is more expensive now. You can also add extra meat for $6, which I will do next time!

Hanna L.

Yelp
Must try here! if you are a type of person who would crave hot soup/noodles 24/7 like my husband. We ordered Lanzhou noodle soup and cold noodles with chicken. Hand pulled noodles were very chewy and delicious. It goes really well with the cold chicken noodles that had mildly spicy (Mala from Sichuan) and sweet, salty, and tangy flavors. Shredded cucumber gives a nice crunchy texture. Lanzhou noodle soup was very rich beefy broth with some spicy herbs and Cilantro. I think it was a little salty but was still acceptable as a restaurant food. They could have provided better quality utensils, which is why I removed one star. Nonetheless, I would order this combo again!

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite places to go to for Chinese noodle soup! I've been wanting to try this place for forever and I had the time to finally try it out on a Saturday night. It wasn't super packed at the Milpitas location but there were people seated everywhere. My boyfriend and I were able to grab a seat wherever in a matter of seconds. We decided to share the signature Lanzhou hand pulled noodle soup along with the spicy wontons. I was expecting the wontons to come out first but the noodles did which surprised me! The spicy wontons were AMAZING. That sauce was so addicting and truly way better than Din Tai Fung's spicy wontons in my opinion. The noodle soup was amazing. I love clear and light broth and this hit all the checkmarks for me. Though it was light, it was still so flavorful. We also added some of the spicy wonton sauce to the soup and that was yummy. Service was great and speedy, loved it! This is definitely my new go to place now for noodle soup.

Yelp
The broth is perfect, I also liked the appetizer like cucumbers and fungus all that. The beef noodle is definitely a must. And the cold noodle is good one too.

Yelp
Perfect for a gloomy day. My cousin and I went in on a Monday around 2PM for lunch, and surprisingly there was a 15-20 minute wait. Worth the wait! What we didn't realize was that you can order from the table with the QR code. We didn't see it so we ordered from the waitress like noobs! Service was pretty fast. We tried the Classic Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles with large flat noodles, beef roll, and the wonton in chili oil. Classic Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles: lots of flavor, great amount of spice already added in the broth, big portion, and long noodles (long life!) I love that it wasn't as salty. We ended up sharing a bowl and it was enough for the two of us especially since we ordered appetizers. Beef roll: crispy layer of pancake with tender and flavorful meat with cilantro and chives. It was fun to try! Wontons in chili oil: LOVED THIS! Wow, I'd go back just to get this. The hot oil was so good and the wontons were packed! I ended up using the hot oil as dip afterwards. Chill ambiance with lots of parking outside!

Yelp
Our party of 4 got seated within 10 minutes on a Wednesday night ~7pm. We got the Beef Roll ($10.98) as an appetizer, which was decent! Very flaky and there was like a sweet hoisin/oyster sauce in the middle. I got the Stewed Pork Rib with Belt Flat Noodles ($13.98). I love the big bok choy crunchy pieces, and tender pork rib meat that fell off the bones. I enjoyed the veryyy wide noodles which had a nice chew; however, just a warning it's quite hard to pick up (without causing a mess). Also a few of my belts stuck together and was too thick for my liking. Also a tip, I like adding some vinegar to each bite! I would definitely go for the medium round next time to get both the chew and convenience of eating.

Yelp
This restaurant definitely hits the mark! I was impressed by the ability to customize the thickness of the noodles to my liking. As a first-timer at a hand-pulled noodle spot, I was not let down. I ordered the Stewed Pork Ribs Noodle Soup with the widest noodle option, the belt noodles, and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. The dish had a generous serving of tender pork ribs, and the broth was both flavorful and light, a result of hours of stewing with a variety of spices. the only change I would make is going with a slightly smaller noodle instead of the belt noodles. I had not realized how large they were until they arrived and they were so heavy that my friend & I were struggling to lift them with our chopsticks haha. The portion size is also very generous, I was able to have a decent amount of leftovers! I would definitely return and order the same dish again!

Yelp
We've driven by this place a few times so I've always wanted to stop by and try it and one day, we did. Located in a small plaza, there is sufficient parking and street parking if needed. The restaurant is decently sized and we were seated right away. They do seem to get a lunch rush though so be cognizant of what time you're going! My friend and I opted for what seemed like their most popular option: lanzhou noodle soup. We had heard raving reviews so we came in with pretty high expectations. The service was quick and the food came out pretty quickly. We both thought the food was okay. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad. It just was standard noodle soup. I think if you're in the area and wanting soup, this would be the spot. However this wouldn't be a spot I'd drive distances for. I'd come back if nearby!

Yelp
Soooo good! Perfect for a cold day. Came here over the weekend for dinner and was not disappointed. I've had this spot bookmarked ever since I moved to the South Bay and I'm happy to see they just opened a location in San Mateo. If you like hand-pulled noodles, you'll love this place. I ended up getting the big belt which I wouldn't recommend since it felt like eating lasagna noodles in my soup. Otherwise, would opt for the large belt next time. Broth is super flavorful, meat is surprisingly very tender and the pig ears were a nice appetizer to start with. They use a numbing spice that isn't too strong and is very flavorful. I got the Lanzhou broth and it's very flavorful. I'm not sure what the other broths taste like but for my first time, it felt like I should try their signature soup. Would come back again.

Yelp
The noodles here are cooked to perfection with a great variety of 6 widths to choose from. I highly recommend trying the Pig Ear and Tofu with preserved egg--its mild Sichuan flavor is just right. The flat noodles with ground pork are a fantastic non-spicy choice for kids. The intestine noodle soup was absolutely delightful. I'm truly grateful for such a wonderful dining experience and can't wait to return!

Yelp
The food is pretty good. There is a $25 minimum order for credit card, so I ended up getting a noodle soup and the beef rolls. Beef rolls were slightly too salty for my liking but I think it would be better if I ate it over rice or something. I struggled reading the menu (it's simplified Chinese) but after I ordered I realized there is an English setting! Noodle soup is very large portions, can definitely share with 2 folks.

Yelp
Came to try the noodle because it looks delicious. They have a variety of size noodle in flat and round as seen in check in pic. Got the Lanzhou special noodle. The noodles tasted ok, (not chewy enough for me - kind of like they were over cooked. ) thin slices of beef were good. Broth was light but savory. The chili really makes a difference and added flavor. The noodles were not very consistent in shape/size so it was a little disappointing. Additionally , there was just something lacking for me... I ate half the bowl and got tired of the taste so I didn't finish it. Popcorn chicken was supposed to have basil but didn't see any. It tasted ok.

Yelp
Not all ox9 are created equal. Went to the ox9 in San Mateo and I was shocked of how good the soup and noodles were. So I decided to try ox9 Milpitas as I was nearby. Tried ox9 Milpitas. Big mistake. Soup base has no taste, served with warm, not hot. The noodle was not fresh made ( had stale prefabricated smell), even the vegetable was half cold. Suspect this franchisee was cutting corners. None in my family finished half of the bowl

Yelp
Tastes great. The legend they offer at each table is useless. The legend shows this Noodle 1/4 the actual size. Be prepared to ask those around you what size their noodles are so you know what you're getting. Don't expect them to let you know your dish is running late. You can wait till everyone is done at your table and those who came after you before receiving your meal or notice it is running late. They will not allow you to make a change to your order after its made, even if it takes significantly more time for you to receive your dish after your request for change.

Yelp
This place has really good noodles (you can even select noodle size for each dish) and appetizers. I would recommend the dry noodles more since the noodle soups have flavors that tend to get lost and way too many noodles. Overall, everything is still good! Beef Roll: Good balance of thin & crispy pancake, flavors, and not being too oily! Definitely one of the better beef rolls that I have had. Spicy Wontons: I really enjoyed these because the sauce is packed with flavor. There's even some sesame / peanut sauce at the bottom that makes it even more classic. Spicy Pig Ears: These were the perfect texture and had a great numbing spiciness. I definitely recommend! Spicy Ground Dry Pork Noodles: This is my favorite dish that I've tried here -- the sauce is really flavorful and has a nice mala (numbing) spice. I think it's better with the small round noodles because it picks up more of the sauce. Stewed Pork Ribs Noodle Soup: I wanted to like this, but it was a miss for me. The ratio of noodle is way too much in comparison to the veggies and meat. The flavor was barely there and the meat was slightly dry. Lanzhou Hand Pulled Beef Noodle Soup: Same as the pork ribs one, but the flavor was slightly stronger. Overall, it's too light and the noodles end up tasting pretty bland. Beef Chow Mein: Good wok flavor with nice amount of veggies included in it. They also have a really good spicy sauce that you can add and make it even more delicious!

Yelp
I've been visiting Ox 9 frequently as their noodles and flavor are delicious. Last time I came here though, they seem to provide an inconsistent amount of noodles and I also ordered medium flat not belt flat... They also added more spice than usual which made it hard to eat. Aside from that, the food is good as usual.
