Oxalis

"Just a few kilometres from the south coast and from Funchal, and with the peace of being surrounded by nature, the lovely Casa Velha do Palheiro hotel delights guests with its more than two centuries of history and its location among verdant golf courses. The restaurant, in a classic-colonial style with a completely open kitchen, serves modernised Portuguese cuisine that elevates Madeiran flavours to a higher level, drawing on seasonal ingredients supplied by local farmers and fishermen. Here, Chef Gonçalo Bita Bota presents his concept through three tasting menus called Agapanto (Agapanthus), Camélia (Camellia), and Glicínia (Wisteria) (available depending on the day of the week)." - Michelin Inspector

my girlfriend and I met the chef in his garden. It was just a great time with pure exchange with plenty of authenticity. We booked for the 3 courses dinner BUT we the sincerity of the chef and his passion I gave my trust to surprise us by choosing the "tasting menu". The travel into our trip started at the terrace with a wonderful cocktail tailor made according to our taste. My gf choose to get her "tasting menu" in vegetarian all the way long which has please also the chef who liked to fullfil new challenges. We had our starters in the nice library , then the first dish in front of the chef and his wonderful team. The full story of each member of the team is impressive and so touching. The combinaison of the sympathie of the team members (chef, sous chef, waitress, head of the restaurant and sommelier) were just incredible. The full deserve highly to be consider by the Michelin Guide by being granted of a star and not only being recommended due to the high quality of the dishes served. From beginning to the end it was an absolute BLAST. Highlight for the Bolito and Parrotfish dishes, those two just a 12/10! All the services were just a piece of art. Massive Thank you for this exceptional time we spent at yours. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Divine! Probably the best dinner I have ever experienced. Food was fantastic, vibes were amazing, and staff were kind and polite. Everything was perfectly balanced creating a memorable dining experience. Worth every penny and the drive there. Definitely a must visit for everyone appreciating food as more than just a fuel.

Had a lovely afternoon tea here for Mother’s Day. They were expecting us, food was exceptional ( dough for our scones made just for us ) and beautifully presented. Service was great. Also had breakfast here last year - great! We would highly recommend.

- A Curious Case for the Michelin Guide Resson has been recently refurbished (less than 3.5 months ago) and is already listed as Michelin-recommended, despite having only one online review at the time of my visit. While the setting is undeniably elegant and the food shows promise, the speed at which it achieved this recognition raises serious questions. How is it possible for a newly reopened restaurant to secure such prestigious acknowledgment so quickly? Does the Michelin Guide have political or insider bias in its selection process? This situation undermines the credibility of the guide and leaves food enthusiasts like me questioning its integrity. That said, the restaurant has great potential. However, transparency in the industry is just as crucial as quality food and service. What are your thoughts?

The Casa Velha do Palheiro is wonderful in itself. With Oxalis they have reached new highs: ambient and service remain impeccable, and the food has spectacularly improved: if it was very good before, now, with the new chef, is definitely Michelin star worth... loved it and will be back.

Une magnifique experience dans un cadre paradisiaque, très calme. Le service est chaleureux et attentionné. On voit le chef cuisiner car la cuisine donne sur la salle ce qui donne du cachet au dîner.
