I loved baked goods, but as a celiac, my options are very limited. And GF baked goods are often heavy/stodgy/greasy. However, OY! has managed to do it really well - a celiac-safe uncompromisingly tasty bakery!
I made a small detour to try this place and was not disappointed. Tucked away in a little cul de sac of N. Santa Cruz Ave, there was not a huge variety of savoury items, but plenty of sweet. We tried the cinnamon coffee cake which was perhaps my favorite. A nice crisp outside with cinnamon sugar on top, and a vein of cinnamon sugar through the middle of the cake. The bottom was a little crusted with some of it cooked which was a nice addition. The cake itself was firm, but airy and light - not at all crumbly. Will return for this one!
We also tried the flourless chocolate cake. A nice crust on the outside, and very fudgy on the inside. It was good, but a little rich for my taste. The raspberry blondie was also good. Not too sweet, and with plenty of fruit in the middle. Like the chocolate cake, it was very moist - I think these would be great with a blob of cream or ice cream as a dessert! The small cheesecake was sweet, but fluffy not too dense. The crust was a little too sweet for me, and I think slightly caramelized in the cooking, so it was an interestingly moist/crisp/caramel note to each mouthful.
I’m really looking forward to trying the breads and savoury items. So very glad that there’s such a good GF bakery in the South Bay!
