Oye Taquito Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Oye Taquito specializes in a very specific type of taco popular in Brownsville and its bordering sister city, Matamoros. The tacos, formally known as tacos estilos de Matamoros, are generally known for their small, thin corn tortillas packed full of finely diced bistec, before being topped with avocado and queso fresco. At Oye Taquito, you can get them with al pastor if you prefer, but we’re big fans of the classic, with as much well-seasoned beef as these tiny tortillas can afford to pack in. They’re also small enough that you can probably take down half a dozen of them, or split an order with a friend and grab a quesadilla or some flautas. " - Nicolai McCrary

Google
I had an order of the street tacos de bistec and frijoles charros and they were delicious! As someone from the valley they took me right back home 😌even if for a little. Thank you for bringing a piece of the 956 to Austin!

Google
The best tacos in Austin….. or at least top 3! Just depends on the day! These tacos are literally always a hit and I love that they come with the avocado. Nothing hits better on a nice day like eating tacos in the sunlight. I like the pastor more than the asada but both are great and always enjoyed.

Google
After arriving late in Austin, I checked into my hotel and looked for a nearby place to eat. I found Oye Taquitos, which came highly recommended. I was pleased to see that my order matched the enticing images on the menu, and it was served hot and fresh from a food truck. The flavors were delightful, and the portion size was quite satisfactory for the price. I would strongly recommend this establishment and look forward to dining there again.

Google
I recently tried the tacos at Oye Taquito 956, and I was pleasantly surprised. The tacos were flavorful and well-prepared, with fresh ingredients that really stood out. The portions were generous, especially for the affordable price, making it a great value. If you’re looking for delicious tacos without breaking the bank, this spot is definitely worth a visit!

Google
Overall good spot to grab some street food- style tacos. I wish they had more variety than variations of beef and pastor on the menu. The staff is friendly and there is plenty of room to sit and park.

Google
Came craving 956 Brownsville style tacos and beans late at night. Those charro beans man 🥹💖. Also watch out for the red salsa it's actually spicy not fake deceiving spicy lol. Pastor tacos on real homemade corn tortillas 👌👌👌👌The cashier's understand Spanish more than English but even with basic words easily able to order. The to go packaging was SO GOOD too. Enough napkins and spoon for the charro beans.

Google
If you're from the RGV and miss those loaded authentic Mexican tacos, this is the place. Super friendly staff. Food is usually out in 5-7min. The outside dinning area is covered properly to protect from wind and sun, fans always on to keep the area relatively cool. Hard to beat $1.50/taco on taco Tuesdays. 10/10. Already part of my usual spots to get a good order of tacos.

Google
I ordered the tacos, half bistec and half al pastor, they were tiny and absolutely delicious. This was a food truck with a small dining area with a couple of picnic tables in a gravel parking lot.

Yelp
I grew up in Mexico and in South Texas, where good traditional street tacos were available left and right. One of the things I missed the most from my hometown is good tacos. Fortunately, I came across Oye Taquito soon after moving to Austin a couple of years ago. Their tacos remind me so much of home as do their beans and their quesadillas. I have tried every item on their menu and have never been disappointed. The service and staff are always great with everyone being very welcoming and friendly. I have also never had to wait more time than the estimate after I place an order, which is an added plus Plus. They're set up has many tables and a good amount of space for everyone to fit in even if you come in with a large group of people who want some good traditional street tacos. Do yourself a favor and check them out. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this place isn't more packed. Some of the best street tacos you're going to find in Austin. Everything I've had here has been top notch.

Yelp
After attending a show in the area, we did a quick search for food trucks that were still open that late and found that Oye Taquito was a quick 5 min drive away! Their beef flautas give you that satisfying crunch with every bite, and pairs perfectly with the light crema fresca that comes with it. The plate also includes a larger-than-expected serving of salad with avocado, tomato, and cotija cheese that is refreshing and balances the fried flavors. Their beef tostadas are messy but filling, too! Definitely a great option if you have the post-bar munchies, and their outdoor seating area is pretty big.

Odalis L.

Yelp
Tacos al pastor have way too much seasoning which makes it salty. Aguas frescas are good I'll give them that.

Yelp
The food and service was GREAT! We ordered for pickup because to eat outside these days is too hot. But I can't emphasis how delicious these tacos and frijoles especial was. We wanted to order more tonight because it was soo soo good. We will definitely return and will share our experience with others. Good food and good people run this place.

Yelp
Popped by this food truck while I was in Austin and it definitely hit the spot! The mini tacos were so cute and also super delicious. They may look small but they are packed with flavor and meat so they were pretty filling. The quesadilla was also super delicious with the best cheese pull. If you're looking for a delicious taco/quesadilla spot especially one that open late, you can go wrong with this one. It did take a little longer for us to get our food even though there weren't many people but it was worth the wait!

Yelp
I haven't been to Oye Taquito in a while since they packed up their Sunset Valley location and moved to East Austin - and I was super excited because it had the best street tacos in ATX in my opinion. I hate to say it, but something changed - the presentation was still fantastic, but the food wasn't nearly what it once was. Maybe the tortillas were different but the meat was just not that good - this is referring to the bistec tacos. They've also jacked up prices by i want to say 30% - I believe they were 10 or 11 bucks and I know they're $14 now - obviously inflation caused that, but I wonder if food costs caused them to change suppliers. Meat was just not good, and salad was old, - brown lettuce and such. I am still giving 3 stars but probably should be 2. I'm hoping you find the magic you used to have - we left and went 500 meters down the road to Trancas, which does really awesome Tripe and Campechanos tacos.

Yelp
We ordered from here tonight, and our food was delicious as expected. The ingredients are of the highest quality, and the portions are beyond generous. The tacos are incredible, and the beans remind me of my mom's.

Yelp
I ordered the bistec mini street tacos & Frijoles Charros, through DoorDash. The frijoles charros are so flavorful! 10/10 The bistec tacos came with limes, grilled onions, green salsa, and red salsa. 5/10 The tacos were okay, the meat lacked flavor and the tortillas were a dry. However, the red salsa is so good, it really saved the whole meal for me.

Michael H.

Yelp
Really happy with this place. Limited choice on tacos, but they are good. Last time I had the beef tostaditas and they were excellent. Three for about $10. I wish they'd add breakfast tacos, but that's my only complaint.
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
I would go again if I was nearby. Their green salsa isn't very good though. It's pretty much a 956 taco but not perfect. They cut their limes wrong. 6 mini tacos is just enough. Service is prompt and agreeable. It's not in the worst part of East Austin but I wouldn't bring my family if I wasn't carrying though.

Yelp
This place was amazing everything was fantastic. The service was fast and friendly and everything was clean. My wife said the rolled tacos were the best she had ever. The quesadilla had cheese and avocado, which was the 1st time I've had one like this it was delicious. Also, the mini tacos were made just right I had the Bistec and the meat was very tender.

Yelp
When I first tried Oye Taquito back in 2019, I gave it the easiest 5 star review I've ever given. The food was authentic and truly reminded me of home. This was the place I would recommend to anyone asking about real tacos. Those days are long gone. I visited the new location off of Cesar Chavez today and was happy to see they had upgraded from the smaller orange truck to the larger black one. All that happiness disappeared when I was served cold tacos after a 20+ minute wait. The quality of the meat was about as poor as it gets. It was dry, tough, unseasoned, and tasted old. The cilantro was not fresh. The tortillas were actually cold to the touch. To make matters worse, it was 100 degrees outside and there was not one bit of shade to be found. We were forced to eat in our car. Terrible food, terrible new location. My friend said these were literally the worst tacos he's ever had in his life. We're both from the valley and have probably had thousands of tacos in our lifetime, so do with that what you will. The passion is clearly gone here. There is nothing that can convince me to give this version of Oye Taquito another chance.

Daisy C.

Yelp
best taco place in austin so far coming from a latina! It's hard to a goooood taco truck so you know I had to drop my review. service is pretty quick, and there's also sitting. you can pay cash and card.
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
The food was average. We ordered the quesadillas suprema, taquitos, & 6 mini tacos - the meat needed more flavor and tasted dry. The salsas were delicious but sad that we had to drench the food in salsa to get that flavor. The service was great but unfortunately I expected more. Our favorite out of the 3 were the quesadillas! Also- the crema was literally tasteless- I don't really know how.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place after watching a comedy show. Tried the mini tacos de bistec and frijoles espáciales Soo damn yummy will def be back for more
google avatar

Luis Fernando H.

Yelp
The tacos at this establishment were the best I've had in Austin. If you're looking for something authentic, this is about as close as you can get! The vibes were great, definitely a great hangout spot or casual date. The service was quick and I will definitely come back.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Tacos were yummy! A little on the salty side but nothing a good Mexican coke can't balance. The charro beans were also really good.
google avatar

Beatriz M.

Yelp
Staff was polite and the tacos were good! Being from Brownsville I have a pretty high standard and although tacos aren't the ultimate best I've had- they are still the best tacos in ATX IMO
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
These are hands down the best Tacos around!! They are just like the ones in the valley .. flavor is amazing and the service is great!!! They have seating outside and the area is clean.. definitely recommend everything here !!
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this place. I live in Hutto now, but lived in the valley all my life (20+ years). This place is awesome. I love that they have Joyas because not a lot of places offer Joyas. I ordered a "quesadilla suprema" which is basically a sincronizada in my opinion. It was delicious. The only thing that is not true to the valley are the prices. In the valley, you can get a whole order of tacos + drink + charros for like $7. Here, they charged charros for $2.75, and an order of 6 tacos are $14 and that's ok! I'm just complaiNing because like I said I'm from the valley and not used to these insane Austin prices lol. But this is a spot to try from the 956

Ruben P.

Yelp
These TACOS are amazing, I grew up in Brownsville. So I've been looking for good south Texas styled tacos and these are it. My only complaint is that no matter how many times I've gone they never seem to listen to my request of no onions on the quesadilla suprema. When I say no onions on the tacos it's never a problem but no matter what they always put onions on the quesadilla. Wish that would change.

Aaron G.

Yelp
Decent food, terrible pricing. In the 956, this owner would be laughed at for the prices he charges. For two people, an order of tacos, beans, and a Mexican coke, plus tip, will set you back $55+ dollars. For $60 bucks, I can get a lot more bang for my buck at a lot of other places.
google avatar

Allison D.

Yelp
We stopped here on our self-guided taco tour of Austin. This was by far the best taco from a taco truck that we had! We tried the Bistec and El pastor queso taco. Both were AMAZING. Loved the queso fresco topping. Friendly service. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
100001/100000. BEST bistek tacos in austin. i just wish they did tripa. they have a greattttt drink selection and even have tostaditas. very much Valley vibes.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
I'm not sure how i haven't already reviewed this place. It is definitely one of my favorite taco places in Austin. Just order the 6 mini tacos and some frijoles especiales and you won't be disappointed! The tacos are classic and done well, with a generous amount of food in each. You won't be hungry after 6, but get the beans anyway because they're soooo good!
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
Wow this place is incredible and the only place in Austin that reminds me of my mother's cooking. I was craving Al pastor tacos and visited this food truck (which was located on Brodie Lane). I loved loved loved that they offered frijoles charros (beans in a cup). You don't see that in too many Austin taco trucks. My husband and I both ordered Al pastor tacos and all of the food was so good. Like another review has said you can tell they make their food with love. It wasn't too busy when we went on a weekday for dinner. We sat on the picnic tables at the Brodie food truck location. I can't wait to go back for a cheat meal day.
google avatar

Carolyn C.

Yelp
OK, so I am not originally from the 956 area but I lived there for four years. My husband is from the valley he was born and raise there so we were excited to try this 956 food truck. Because the Valley is a drive we aren't able to eat valley food as often as we would like to. So coming here was exciting. My husband got the six Mini street. tacos and I got the lonches. The lunches were nice and crispy nicely filled and very tasty. My husband really enjoyed his tacos. Unfortunately I did not get to try them because he shower them in salsa! But they looked good and smell so good as well though the owner is from the Valley I still feel like something was missing. I don't know what it is but all I know is that this is the closest we're going to get to Valley food here in Austin and we will be coming back soon!!!

Robin A.

Yelp
Delicious, quick food. Pleasant seating area. The staff nice and patient as there were many choices.
google avatar

Anonymous A.

Yelp
Waited for 50 minutes for a taco and taquitos. I finally gave up when they started serving food to people that literally ordered 30 minutes after me. When I brought up the absurdity of the wait and serving those that came well after me the cashier tried gaslighting me, like I was just making it up. I asked for a refund on $22.45 and he gave me $22 even. I cut my losses and left. There are lots of great taco trucks here and I'll be okay!
google avatar

Ian C.

Yelp
Best tacos I've had in Austin. Reminds me the most of the food I've had in Mexico, a lot of taco joints can't replicate that. Don't sleep on this spot, will be making it back out soon to try the whole menu.
google avatar

Eryn W.

Yelp
I was babysitting down the street craving tacos and just so happen to look up the nearest taco place and this place popped up and from the previous pictures already posted, they looked good af. So I got there around 11, thankfully they're open until midnight, it was a 15-20 minute wait but it definitely went by a lot faster, and then boom, Magic
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Food was terrible. The beef flautas tasted like they came frozen from a big box store. Nothing tasted fresh nor made on the spot.
google avatar

Dominique E.

Yelp
The quesadilla was so good!!! Lots of flavor that was not passed up in making this. I'm only giving 4 stars because the taquitos were alright.
google avatar

Rafael F.

Yelp
They're still at it 10/10. Get an order of bistro, frijoles especiales and some tostadas.

Ithalia G.

Yelp
The food was decent, the cashier who took my order is the one who made me give a 1 star review. The cashier had short hair and glasses, usually it's a really nice guy, it was my first time seeing her there. When I ordered food she rolled her eyes at my order something I dismissed thinking she had something in her eye. Then I wait for my food for over 30 minutes, then I finally ask once I see the couple that was after me get their food first. She looks for my order and then I see her start laughing and she takes out my order from underneath the counter, then gives it to me. The food was already cold. I just don't understand how someone can find that funny. No apologies. won't be coming back
google avatar

Solomon R.

Yelp
Stoped by for a quick lunch and wasn't disappointed. The tacos come in asada or al pastor and are topped with cilantro, onions, avocado and cotija cheese. You get two sauces: green and red. The red one is spicier and give a nice kick to the tacos. When I'm next in the area will definitely consider stopping by again and trying more of the other items on the menu.
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
Love everything from Oye Taquito! The tostadas and tacos are by far my favorites. Clean Mexican food, not greasy or soggy.

Daniela T.

Yelp
Amazing authentic tacos. As a Mexican I can say these are some of the best street tacos in Austin. The staff is super nice and welcoming. I recommend the street tacos, the charros, and my BF had the quesataco and loved it. I asked the owner for a little extra meat to give to these 4 kittens that were next to us and he made them a little plate. Super cute

Marcos M.

Yelp
Moved here from the border a couple years ago and I haven't had tacos as good as the ones out there until now this is the best taco spot I've been to in Austin
google avatar

Adaryll B.

Yelp
Hands down the best street tacos I have even eaten came from this place. Great food and a great family ran restaurant. I called them to check their restaurant hours while I was over an hour away in San Antonio but no one answered. As soon as I put my phone in my pocket, I received a call from the manager Roger. I never had a restaurant/manager do that. I thanked him when I returned for dinner. He said he never wants to miss a call because he valued his customers. Excellent customer service right there.
google avatar

Axel B.

Yelp
Went to this little gem for Taco Tuesday. Their mini tacos are reasonably priced, packed with tender meat, and come with a good selection of salsas. The Frijoles is also really flavorful. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for a fairly priced, no frills taco truck.
google avatar

Mary A.

Yelp
Food truck in South Austin in a cute little food truck park. There's also a bar and other trucks available (Jamaican, American) in the same area so it's a nice place to hang, if you don't mind the Texas heat! We tried both their bistek and al pastor street tacos, the tostadas and the frijoles especiales. One common thing about this place is that they'll give you generous portions and you won't have an issue with cheese, every single thing had so. Much. Cheese! Thumbs up!! The tostadas are the tortilla chips, queso fresco, salsa and limon. These were my favorite! The frijoles especiales are hearty and filling. They include meat, avocado and queso fresco. The tacos also include plenty of delicious ingredients and the tortillas are great. The one thing that was missing for me is that the meat didn't have much flavor. These weren't my favorite but it was good for sure!
google avatar

Paola Q.

Yelp
Delicious tacos just like the ones from Brownsville Texas. I like the bistek with green salsa the best

Amanda F.

Yelp
Best tacos in Austin hands down. Not overpriced and service is quick. They have a tent now for shade. Super nice people.
google avatar

Luis G.

Yelp
Since my last review I tried the tacos and frijoles especiales again (obviously still amazing!) and the tostadas this time and I cannot say enough how amazing this place is. If I could I would take everything on this menu and put it in my pocket so that I never have to go without it again. The tacos are always full of flavor, the frijoles especiales are freaking phenomenal and the tostadas were so good with all the toppings and the salsa. I always get the taste of home (Brownsville, TX) when I come here but it's also different in its own way. Everything is made with love and you can instantly tell. If you still have not tried these tacos from Oye Taquito, you're truly missing out. This is as authentic as it gets to Mexican street tacos as you will find all over Austin, pflugerville, round rock, Buda, Kyle and all of central Texas so quit missing out on such amazing, authentic food and get here NOW! Don't forget to order a Mexican Coke with your food, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Isabel D.

Yelp
Not everything is in the picture but I ordered six bistek tacos with charro beans and a manzanita. These tacos taste close to home, 100% recommend! #TheValley #956 #ATX #
google avatar

Brittni M.

Yelp
Phenomenal tacos, quesadillas, charro beans. Everything about this place screams authentic. A must try for austin peeps visiting, and a great spot for locals to get authentic food. 10/10
google avatar

Bennet L.

Yelp
If I could I'd give them 10 stars. These are hands down the best tacos in Austin. Everything was amazing, I will be a regular here soon enough. Obsessed!

Yelp
Taco Tuesday Takeout! Supporting our family own local businesses. Today family treat is ¡Oye Taquito! The mini street tacos are delicious and reminds me of my visits to south Texas. We ordered both types of tacos: Bistec and Pastor. The meat was flavorful and moist. The beans take me back to my grandma's beans - amazing! They are reasonably price and offer specials every Tuesday. #supportsmallbusiness #tacos #supportlocalbusiness #mexicanfood #oyetaquito #beans #familyowned
