We sat outside. The weather was wonderful. Nice and breezy with fans outdoors. We had the sea bass and shrimp and grits. Both were excellent. Our server, Jerrod, was busy but attentive. We would definitely come back.

Food is TOP! If you are going for food, then I highly recommend it. Experience-wise it was good but could be better in my opinion. The chairs were not comfortable. You could hear what other people were talking about. The food was awesome though. Fresh oysters are 10/10. Grilled fish had spices inside and it had such an interesting flavor, I loved it. If you thinking about ordering a dessert or not, DO IT. They have a caramel cheesecake from NY and it was so tasty l still remember the taste in my mouth. Fried oysters were good but not the rest of the food. I would not order them again if we came back. Paid $120 with tips included for 2 of us. Recommend!

The food was really great. Seared Tuna and crabcakes were amazing. We also got the Seafood trio, Steamed shrimp boil, Lobster ravioli. It was all fantastic. Jackson, our waiter was also incredible. I recommend this place big time!

Visiting Charleston from Northern VA, we were hunting for a local dinner spot & came across this place. While reading the menu, a gentleman walked out & said "eat here, it's great." I was sold & glad too, because he wasn't lying. We sat at the bar for happy hour & tried the James River oysters. The staff was friendly, laid back & kind. The whole restaurant had positive, warm vibes. The seafood was excellent. I paired it with a white wine based on our server's suggestion & it was just right. We struck up a conversation with the gentleman shucking oysters at the bar. He was such a sweetheart & offered tips on some of the best haunts in Charleston. The overall experience was stellar & I'm so grateful! Thanks guys!

Google
Most of our group got raw oysters on the half shell. We tried all the varieties that they had and they were all fresh and delicious. My wife had the fish tacos and she said they were great as well. We had excellent service while we were there and never had to flag our server down to get her attention. They have a fairly good beer selection as well.

Came here a year later and they still have great Happy Hour! They are located right near the market and in walking distance to many other places. Super solid options on their HH menu, I love their peel and eat shrimp so we got a boatload of them! Our first round of drinks came pretty quick and later we ordered a second round when we finished our food. It was about 15 mins and no drinks, so we asked our server to come over and cancel our drinks. She apologized and said she could see they were just finishing it up. (2 beers and 1 glass of sparkling wine) I understand that it was happy hour but we didn’t even order cocktails so that was a super long time for just 3 beverages. We ended up just taking them since they finally made it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We still got charged for all 3 drinks but at that point we were just ready to go. We still had a pretty good time but just some communication on those type of delays would be nice in the future.

Google
Was not impressed with food! $4 per oyster for Oyster House is little bit too much. The ravioli were in such a no taste can souse, mussels were ok. Service was good! Honestly I didn’t get it why people were crazy about this place!

Google
Food was awesome! Recommend the shrimp roll, very fresh! Fried fish sandwich was good and crab steam bucket was excellent! Our server went out of his way to make our dining experience a 10! Ask for Corwin- he will take good care of you!

Yelp
Great food and amazing service. Near the main city market. Just remember where you parked. Good room to eat. It's not stacked with tables next to tables where you cant move. The food is exactly what you pay for. Great portions and awesome quality. My wife had the whole red snapper and I had the mango glazed sea bass. Spectacular taste. This is a must if your sopping by downtown Charleston

Yelp
Great patio spot for lunch. Very family friendly, decent seafood menu and other eatery selections; convenient location next door to Charleston Market. Prompt and attentive service, food was served quickly from kitchen (at lunchtime). Overall 4.0 rated for me on food quality, friendly service and relaxed dining ambience. Expect to pay $12-30pp for meal depending what you order. Today I tried the signature She Crap Soup as starter, followed by a Chilled Shrimp Salad Roll. Soup had delicious flavors, with creamy texture but not overly thick; one comment it was served "warm" not steaming "hot" as i might expect soup to be served - however I'd order again just request temperature served. The Shrimp Salad Roll was plentiful and tasty! Good lunch sandwich served with Fries (or creamy cole slaw which I'd recommend after tasting yum). Oyster House was a convenient location in the downtown district, and patio setting was great for a day meal. Check it out if you want a casual and solid seafood experience in Charleston. Enjoy!

Yelp
The beautiful spring weather drew me into this restaurant's large outside dining area. Their menu promised a She Crab soup, a Charleston classic, which I've never had before. It is definitely rich and creamy. It was too decadent for me. It leaned more towards gravy and I think it actually would be great on some biscuits. I also love crab cakes, which was also on this menu. I was very disappointed. The crab cakes were too mushy and the sauce was not good. The asparagus was amazing though. Good service. Casual. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yelp
Very nice place to dine when taking in the sights of downtown Charleston. The food was plentiful as well as delicious- especially the crispy Brussel Sprouts, (wow! they were so crispy and tasty that I could have eaten a ton of those and been just as satisfied with my meal); and the drinks were overflowing. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and what options were available for our GF member - which were not many but enough. Highly Recommend for all seafood lovers!

Yelp
The food here is amazing and such a great atmosphere. Came here twice on a trip to Charleston and didn't regret it. The shrimp salad sandwich and fried cheese fritters were so tasty! We literally came and had the cheese fritters twice they were that good. I got the side of brussel sprouts too. They were amazing and crispy. Omg were they cravable ! Do yourself a favor and get them! Their spritz cocktails were delicious and refreshing as well. Especially in the heat!

Yelp
This was a stop on a food tour we were on, but I had to review it because I had the she crab soup here, then went to dinner at 82 Queen (which was excellent btw) and had the she crab soup. I'd been told it is best st 81 Queen and I definitely felt it was better here at the Oyster House. Also had the shrimp and grits - I'm not a grits fan. But, the sauce is actually not fish based and this shrimp and grits were pretty great. Pimento cheese, but I don't really eat that, and had hushpuppies and those were great. Praline butter was unbelievable. So sweet. Very good.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Oyster House and we came for the shrimp and grits. It didn't disappoint. Hearty gravy atop hearty grits! My son opted for the crusted salmon and it was also very good. We tried a few oysters as an appetizer since we were at Oyster House. They have a variety you can choose from. They were fresh and tasty. Service was quick and friendly. We sat outside on the patio to enjoy the mild weather in April. We will be back when visiting Charleston in the future! Ps. We did make a reservation just to be on the safe side.

Yelp
This was our first stop in town. Our server JP was amazing. He listened to our likes and dislikes and had great recommendations for our dinner. The food was fresh and tasty. The drinks were delicious and boozy. We sat on the patio and enjoyed. The music wasn't too loud. The fans kept us cool. 10/10 service and ambiance.

Yelp
We had an incredible dining experience at the Oyster House Seafood Restaurant. The outdoor seating area is so lovely and inviting on a crisp fall day. I would go there just for the ambiance. The staff went above and beyond as well. We started off with Pinot Grigio, hush puppies and raw oysters. The praline butter served with the hush puppies was to die for. The hush puppies reminded me of an upscale donut. Delicious! The oysters were perfection. Not too salty and I loved the fresh cocktail sauce. I'm looking forward to trying the Prince Edward Island oysters during my next visit. For dinner I ordered the snow crab stream pot and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp steam pot. The garlic butter was on point, the crab legs (while messy, I prefer the lazy man's version) were out of this world. The corn, andouille sausage and potatoes were all cooked to perfection with Old Bay Seasoning. The portions were so large that I have leftovers for today. 5 stars!

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was quick and friendly. Nice patio sitting area. Recommend

Yelp
My wife loved her crab cake sandwich here, whereas I did not enjoy my Baja fish tacos at all. They were very dry despite the crema topping and were desperately in need of some salsa. At least the fries were good. Prices felt a bit on the high end. Service was quick.

Yelp
We always love to stop in while visiting Charleston and the nearby market. Our favorite of course are the oysters but they have other great options on the menu too. Staff is attentive and polite, atmosphere is inviting and you can watch the oyster shucking from the bar

Jack F.

Yelp
Food and service was very good. Definitely coming back! Waiter was very nice making sure we had a good time

Yelp
Kevin was an awesome server. The food and drinks were sooooo good! We went back to the bar area later on in the day and had their frozè which was really good too! I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
My friend was visiting and wanted seafood and a little bit of ambience. This is perfectly located near the market as well as the water. Anytime I walk by. I'm always gonna pop in and grab an oyster shooter - the staff is casual and welcoming. We decided just to grab a few drinks on the happy hour special and share some apps. The bread for the mussels was crispy , buttery and well with them. We enjoyed the calamari as well, but the garlic aïoli did leave a little bit to be desired. Will be visiting again.

Yelp
Just right across the street from the Historic Market tucked behind the Crab House is this place. The windows are tinted so you don't know if the place is open or closed. But considering it's an oyster bar, the front section of the place had a cozy ambiance to it which I thought was appropriate for an oyster bar. The server was... odd. Yes, she was kind. Yes she was professional. But that was what we were able to perceive considering she really couldn't project her voice to us well enough for us to understand what we were ordering so it made it difficult for us to ask for stuff and ask questions. Now for the food. For an oyster bar, the food is... mediocre at best. The oysters were gray and either had too much brine or there was an overtly distinct oceany flavor that didn't have the clean finish oysters tend to have. I get that oysters and their flavors are regional, but make the oysters clear. Label the suckers if you have to. I get it. It's oysters. They're going to have that fishy taste. But the finish is what makes it and the only ones that had a decent finish was the ones from Canada. At about $124 for their $64 plus the upcharge for the premium oysters, plus another half dozen of the Canadian oysters, plus a beer, my only recommendation is come with friends.

Yelp
Stopped at over 6 oyster bars and restaurants in the Charleston area and this is one of their finest! Their seafood selection is extensive however they only had 4 oyster varieties to choose from, but they were all perfectly curated, wisely selected, and beautifully presented. The sheer size of this place, with multiple levels is voluminous enough to satisfy any passerby which is good because it is directly across from the Market. Got in and got a seat for lunch with no problem and the young man who served us towards the back where the cold bar is, was endearing and knowledgeable.
google avatar

Lee Ann W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere - love the bar area - excellent espresso martini! The shrimp & grits are a definite along with the she crab soup. I got the fish tacos but was a little disappointed. They were a little too dry and just had some pieces of slaw really needs some more sauce and I would recommend some "perkier" slaw but this is a definite go! We will be back for sure - our waiter was excellent!
google avatar

Yelp
Really cute setup, inside and outside seating with fans (of course). Didn't get anything to test the waters, but happy with being able to customize my order. Would come back to see what other things to checkout on the menu, drinks look pretty promising too.
google avatar

Yelp
Came to try the raw oysters during happy hour and it was decent. It was definitely packed during that time. Service was good as well.
google avatar

Chad E.

Yelp
Fish was amazing and light with a crispy batter. The mussels with a wine sauce and the hush puppies were amazing as well! Brussel sprouts had too much of the stem left on them. Service was good, but our table definitely needed some attention, very sticky and a little uncomfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Oyster House is one of the few restaurants that offer seafood boils, which is basically mixed steamed seafood that includes mussels, shrimps, corn, Dungeness crab legs and Alaskan crab legs. Oh my! We also ordered the grilled oysters, which had a layer of cheese on top. This was delicious! Overall, the service was friendly and quick. Restaurant was not full, and it is a huge restaurant with two floors! Loved this meal!

Darcy C.

Yelp
Excellent food excellent service! I am not a fish person, but I had the crabcakes which were good, but the salmon that my husband had was outstanding as well as the grits that came with my crabcakes!!!
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
I'm not very impressed by this place. The ambience is very plain considering the prices they are charging, and the food was mediocre at best. There are much better options in the area.
google avatar

Janice W.

Yelp
So good! We came for the happy hour and they have a nice little selection of things on the menu and it is totally worth it. Love the John River oysters! Great service and love the ambience inside too !

Elaine V.

Yelp
I've had much better chicken at Popeyes. There small pieces of chicken with hot honey pored over them, overcooked red rice and bland brussels sprout. my husband meal wasn't any better. Very disappointed for the price they charged.

Yelp
Isabella is the BEST!!! So friendly and knowledgeable about the area of Charleston. We had a great time at the Oyster house and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors
google avatar

Yelp
Great service. Nice inside and outside seating. Clean Fast service Oysters were great! Salad was large with great amount of toppings and dressing. Boil was good- corn was a bit mushy but it is early May & out of season.

Yelp
Come for Happy Hour! $5 fish tacos that are top shelf. Cheap drinks too. Staff is friendly and service is great!

It was great to be downtown in Charleston. The location was great and the food was really good.

Yelp
Stopped in after a Ghost Tour in Charleston for a drink and an appetizer. Went to the bar and met Brandon, great bartender, great guy. We had eaten earlier so we decided to come back Sunday for lunch! Football on the TVs and guess who's there?! Brandon!!! Guy must work a million hours. Drinks ordered, we place a food order...my wife had roasted oysters and a selection of raw oysters. I had shrimp and grits (in a Tasso ham gravy). Food was excellent, great experience, highly recommended and ask for Brandon!!! Loved the interior and vibe too!

Yelp
This spot is located in downtown Charleston and had an amazing looking patio. We were sweaty from walking around the town all day and the patio looked incredible welcoming. We took a seat and were immediately greeted by a super friendly server. We just got a quick snack because we were headed to dinner with friends soon after, but we enjoyed some fries and pints. We definitely need to return for seafood next time we visit. The only reason that I knocked off a star is because I've had to eat dairy and gluten free recently (not the restaurant's) fault, but it was hard to find anything without one or both of those on the menu. Great spot!
google avatar

Darryl B.

Yelp
We sat at the bar and got excellent service from Joe who was working the bar. The food menu had lots of great choices. All of the food was fresh and tasty
google avatar

Maks T.

Yelp
Enjoyed this spot very much. Pretty great Southern seafood. Had some oysters, calamari, shrimp and grits. Sat on the terrace where it felt summery. Service was OK. Had a nice time!

Mei M.

Yelp
Great setting! Our waiter, Zayne was great! Happy birthday Zayne! As a Texan, the flavor could have been a bit more pronounced but all in all it was a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Searched Yelp to find a spot to eat some seafood and we wound up going with Oyster House. Checked in, said it would be around a 15 minute wait and we probably waited 5 minutes and was taken to our table. Hostess were friendly and our server was amazing. Placed our drink and food order and it came out fast but with perfect timing in between each course. We ordered two of each oyster on a half shell they had. They were okay. Maybe it's my tastebuds because I was sick recently. ‍ Fire Roasted Oysters, really good, loads of flavor. Hubby had the She Crab Soup and Chilean Sea Bass. I had the Ultimate Steam Pot paired with a nice Palmetto Ale. Everything was really flavorful. I enjoyed the heck out of my steam pot.

Yelp
Oyster House was so great, we came back twice on our recent trip to Charleston! Located right next to the City Market, it was a great spot to grab a quick lunch both days without breaking the bank. My sister and I loved the oyster selection that they offered & the she crab soup was amazing to dip our fries in to. The service was great and they always made sure to tell us what oysters were which. Sit on the patio if you can for the best experience!
google avatar

Shannon A.

Yelp
Amazing oysters! I tried local, Canadian, and CT oysters, as well as The shrimp salad sandwich and the hush puppies. Really happy to sit outside on the patio!
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
We just walked up at 6pm on a Saturday night and we quickly seated outside on the covered deck! Exceptional service from waitstaff explaining choices for the oysters. The description was spot on with the local selection of the night! The hushpuppies are fantastic and like dessert!! We spilt the beet salad ( which is HUGE) and the crab cake sandwich platter. The even spilt the plates for us which wasn't necessary but kind! Both we're honestly fabulous... the crab cake crunch on the outside as I love and very thick & flavorful. Great smaller steak fries! The Dallas was loaded with candied pecans, roasted beats, oranges, feta ... oh my!!! I was pleasantly surprised by our experience!
google avatar

Linna L.

Yelp
The outdoor area is very lovely. We came here for an 8PM reservation just to have oysters. It wasn't as busy as expected on a Saturday. The service was really slow. We had to wait constantly to order and get our checks. The oysters were great. We tried all the vary of oysters they had on the menu. Paid parking deck is near by. There is no street parking for this restaurant.
google avatar

Juliette W.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Good food and fast service! No complaints. I like how much seating they had and how the tables were spaced well!
google avatar

Kerry A.

Yelp
On our anniversary trip eating our way through Charleston- stopped in here for lunch. Starting with Shay, our server to the apps and Crab Cakes (which were outstanding BTW). Highly recommend!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and even better seafood!! The drinks are crafted nicely but the seafood.. oh the seafood!! I think as far as prices go this wasn't bad for two people at 49.95 A dozen oysters on a half shell, mussels, peel n eat shrimp and Alaskan crab! If you're looking for some good oysters with a small wait I would absolute come here!
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
We came during happy hour and started with Moscow mules, oysters, peel and eat shrimp, and hush puppies. Service was prompt and friendly, the restaurant was nice inside, but the food was just okay. There was nothing special about it. A lot of restaurants in Charleston have pizzazz or an overwhelming charm, this one isn't one of them. The prices were reasonable, but that could be because we came during happy hour.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Great place in the French Quarter Amazing service Accommodating Indoor and outdoor seating Great
google avatar

Kaylee G.

Yelp
We came in for the she crab soup....and I'm glad we did. The best crap soup I've ever had! I wish we had room in our belly for more then the soup.

Yelp
Stop by because I was craving oysters. Was seated immediately and the waiter came by to provide us with menu. We knew we only wanted oysters. I did order 6 James river and 6 PEI oysters. They were a bit expensive, but satisfied that craving. $2 for James river and $3 for PEI. They didn't clean the oysters too well though. Overall it tasted good. Nice outdoor seating. Waiter was friendly.

Yelp
Our party of 3 came in on a Sunday with a reservation for 8 PM. Since we were only visiting for a long weekend, our quest was to try as many Charleston foods as we could and this spot happened to have the Lowcountry Boil. We ordered that to share but it was pretty underwhelming. We didn't think it would be a lot of seafood and we just wanted to try it - but this plate is probably meant for one person as a full meal. But I'm also kind of glad there wasn't more because the sauce was really salty. We also ordered some raw clams, which were fine - nothing to write home about. The best part of the meal was actually the shrimp roll, surprisingly - which none of us expected at all. This comes with a side of cole slaw, and I always appreciate a good side of slaw. Our waiter was probably one of the unfriendliest people we met in our entire time in Charleston. He did not look happy to be there. Maybe because we came in close to closing time, which is 9 PM? But we were in and out before then because we already came to the restaurant knowing what we'd be ordering. Overall, the experience was pretty meh. Yes, the shrimp roll was good but I don't think it's something you need to specifically seek this place out for. If you're looking for the lowcountry boil, I'm sure there are tons of better seafood spots out there.

Yelp
The service was great. Our server gave us great recommendations and seemed to know the menu in detail. The food was amazing. Tried a selection of oysters and they were all fresh. The hush puppies and praline butter were great. The coastal seafood trio was phenomenal. The fish and rice were prepared perfectly and the Brussels sprouts were flavor and crispy. Nice outdoor seating with plenty of fans to help keep you cool on a summer evening. I will be coming back for their happy hour.
