We've been wanting to come here since they opened and only just had the opportunity to do so. We stopped in on Friday, quite a bit before the dinner rush (around 4pm?) and it was great. The restaurant was pretty empty and it was really quiet, so we were able to interact with the staff quite a bit. It got pretty busy around 5:30/6pm.
We shared a dozen miyagis on the half-shell ($35), some calamari ($18), and the duck fat fries ($12). The oysters were super fresh and actually a pretty decent price (a lot of places are charging upwards of $4-5/ea for raw these days). The mignonette was perfectly balanced between acidity and sweetness and had a nice black pepper finish. I only wish there were more shallots as that's the actual condiment IMO (vs. the vinegar). The calamari was amazing - the batter is just a very light dusting, so rather than eating a bunch of fried breading, you can really enjoy the freshness of the calamari. I think it may be one of the best fried calamari dishes I've had in recent memory. The duck fat fries were also really delicious - as others have pointed out, they are super crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside, and not super greasy. The aioli was super delicious as well.
There are so many things on the menu that we didn't get to try, but we look forward to our next trip out!
Although it was slow when we sat down, all of the staff were super attentive and friendly, and always kept water and wine glasses topped up.
I do have to specifically call out the wine list, which is among the most thoughtfully curated and reasonably priced I've seen recently. There's a big selection of champagne and other sparkling wines ranging from as low as $40-50/btl to upwards of $1,000 (vintage Salon) so you can find something very reasonably priced or go to town if you're celebrating. In addition, they have an awesome selection of white wines that pair perfectly with seafood, including Sancerre, Chablis, etc. If reds are more your thing, they also had some red wines too. Just all around a really awesome wine list. In terms of markup, the few bottles I looked at were around 80-120% markup over retail, which is quite reasonable. If you're looking for something ultra special, the vintage Salon mentioned above is a paltry 2-3% over retail ($975).
We can't wait to go back!
