P. Terry's Burger Stand

Came in Sunday feb 15th at 5pm and service was not that good..I ordered a cheeseburger meal and my sister a grilled chicken meal but when we received it my sister couldn't eat it..Too spicy..I guess they made a mistake and gave her a spicy one..Anyways went up to tell girl at counter that was wearing a mask.But she never offered to exchange it or anything so I had to buy her a cheeseburger..Then I wanted condiments (salt and pepper)as containers were empty..I told her to give me a handful so I can put some out there and she gave me the most strangest look..Like if I was stupid or something..Later she told me that she wasn't gonna allow a customer to put pepper on the container..Ok but no one still has filled them I told her..I just didn't like the customer service here..There's no greeting in fact we waited a while so she could get off her phone so she could address us at counter when we first arrived..Im not gonna return..Thank goodness we have plenty of burger spots to choose from in san marcos

Yesterday morning Jan 13th was my first time trying P. Terry’s Burger Stand in San Marcos and it was great! The egg burger was delicious. The employee absolutely amazing whom recommended the spicy bacon and egg sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The woman was super friendly even gave me a free sausage and egg burger to try. The dining area was very clean and the service was fast. Definitely will be back to try the double cheeseburger

Nice concept, but the service leaves much to be desired. Tables were dirty and the drink machine was out of ice. They got our order wrong, which wasn't complicated, only asked for no pickles and a double cheese burger. The taste for comparison is the McDouble at McDonald's for reference. Prices were great

The young man at the register did his best to help us but he was the only one on register AND shakes. We waited an additional 15 minutes for our shakes & had to ask for them. Lots of people standing around in the kitchen—seems this location needs to train employees for more than one task.

The burgers are a little small,but very tasty and served hot and fresh. Everything comes like an old burger joint in the 50s.si the fries came in a wrap bag one size and were hot & wonderful. The price for 3 meals was only 20 something,unusual cos I thought oh know they didn't get everything,but to my surprise it was the opposite. I received fast quick drive thru service.

Aug 2024, we visited Texas State University to deliver some requested dorm room items and took the college student to lunch at P. Terry's Burger Stand in San Marcos. As the company is planning to open a new location near our residence, we were eager to try their offerings. Regrettably, our experience was underwhelming as the burger was ordinary, and the fries, despite being freshly cut, were not to our liking. Nevertheless, the service was prompt and courteous, and the ambiance had a malt shop feel. However, the cleanliness of the tables and floor left room for improvement. While we may consider giving them another chance when the new location opens, our initial impression was that P. Terry's Burger Stand provided an average burger with below-average fries.

Arrived at the time order was said ready. I arrived and was told it'll be ready in a minute. Not a problem I can wait a minute.... any minute now after 15 minutes. I asked the 5 staff that are standing behind the register and was told your order hasn't started and is 9th in line. Well there goes my time and money, so I went straight to whataburger. I thought I'll give P.Terrys a try since I hardly eat here. Let's say it's not worth it and definitely better burgers out there than P.Terrys.

The food and service has always been good at this location. I usually get drive-through and I always get my food promptly. My go-to order is the crispy chicken sandwich (with no tomatoes), fries, and an Arnold Palmer for the drink.

I took advantage of being within walking distance to this place during my visit to San Marcos for the 2025 Texas Master Naturalist Annual Meeting. I had always wanted to try the one in San Antonio, but never had. The drive through was actually swamped, but the dining room was empty. I walked up to the counter, ordered my food, and took it to my table within about five minutes. This is definitly fast food. My cheeseburger was reminiscent of a Burger Chef cheeseburger from back in the day. I liked it and the low "under 4 dollars" price. However, my last bite had a high concentration of whatever seasoning they used, which I did not find appealing. The fries were tasty. They were rather thin for my tastes. Also, they were too long, making it hard to dip them in ketchup without double dipping. I also splurged and had a vanilla shake. There was nothing special about it. It was the typical poured from a machine kind you get at any fast food restaurant. That's a good thing. Those are my favorite ones. If I am ever reliant on fast food, I would definitly choose P. Terry's for the price. All in all, it is just what it claims to be- fastfood hamburgers.

We have driven past this chain of restaurants for years but have never tried them until now. We stopped at this location on a recent road trip and we are glad we did. The burgers were great. The hand cut fries were tasty. The Reese's peanut butter cup shake was a perfect treat. The staff were friendly and efficient. The prices were very reasonable. We were hoping to eat outside at a table because we had our dog with us, but they didn't have any outside tables. We will try this place again in the future.

Fries? SO DRY COULD NOT CHEW. Tell old from sitting around too long. Asked for half sweet and half UNSWEETENED, got it wrong asked at window make it right and was STILL FULLY sweet. AVOID NEW CHICKEN SPECIAL. It's ground up processed non sense. Does not hold a candle to Chick Fil A. Get orders right first time, fix it no problem. Cannot do it on 2nd try it's a real issue!

My first time to one of these establishments. The unique exterior and that shade of teal never fails to attract attention. Took 15 minutes to get my order, 2 sandwiches and fries. I would accept this if the food were really fresh, but my fries were barely lukewarm and my burger was ice cold. Also the tea was stale and had no date/time for swap out. The order taker seemed like we were doing him a favor by giving our order. And despite telling him it was our first time, the service was just as lackluster. One a personal preference, I'm not a fan of shoestring, over cooked fries, but I can't fault them for my taste. It was a decent burger and price is pretty good, but that's what kept it at 2 stars instead of 1.

All bun, lettuce, and tomato...where's the beef? A palm size burger for $10. Their combos are more on the snack size than meal size.

Yummy. Like a home cooked burger. Fries a good too. Better than other brands that have a ton of hype. New to area and love it.

The morning staff are terrible! They told me to wait at the intercom and I've been here for 10 minutes? I'm the only person in line and it's 10:20AM. I finally spoke up and they said sorry for the wait and they were ready for my order.... I get to the window and the lady is on the phone laughing and talking with someone. She then didn't speak to me at the window, just reached for my card and didn't respond to my "Hey, how's it going?" or "thank you." She didn't even come to the window until my food was ready and didn't say a single word to me. Her phone case was black and blue and the receipt says Alma. PS: AND SHE GOT MY ORDER WRONG (food was still delicious tho but I gotta go with the 1 star)

this is the best p terrys location. it's consistently a very good burger!!!!!!!! and you can't beat those prices folks! cute interior.

Their fries are decent. The burgers are more than edible. Their shakes are delicious, and their cookies can be addicting. Their shakes of the month always draw me in, but the last few months have been subpar shakes of the month. Sad. I still have high hopes for their future shakes and will always be on the lookout for new stuff they bring to the table.

Very affordable lunch for a family 6! Great burgers, fresh fries and yummy shakes. Love the option for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. Burgers are great size, would definitely recommend to others!

Clean establishment, friendly staff, and great food. We come here several times a month. But we've never any bad experiences with P Terry's.

It was ok and affordable. But, I have to compare it to Dicks in Seattle, Wa and Dicks was better.

If you are looking for a quick burger stand, P Terry's is the place to get fresh and cooked to order burger at a very affordable price. Their milkshakes are yummy and don't forget to bring home a slice of moist banana bread and/ or oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Probably my favorite fast food quality burger.

I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and a drink through the drive thru. Unfortunately, my order was wrong and they remade it fresh and gave me free cookies! The chicken sandwich was decent but I think others will really enjoy it. It tasted like it was brined with pickle juice and I'm not the biggest fan, but I know I good sandwich when I see one! The fries were good also. I will try their burgers next!

worst service ever nasty attitudes from everyone working there. got two orders wrong and tried to get us to buy something else so they didn't have to void it...lazy? gave us cold fries and looked at us like we were crazy for wanting hot food. forgot my shake and again looked at me crazy as if i'm the one doing my job wrong. very disappointed worst location i've ever been to. it's a simple job and honestly wouldn't be so upset if the employees had a better attitude.

Service was outstanding. never been here before but glad i stopped. burgers were made to order and fries were perfect. at first, no one greeted us as i looked at how busy they were. a gentleman took off his gloves and took our order. 2 burgers 2 fries and upgraded our drinks. the lemonade as absolutely great. fresh squeezed. our order took a while and they acknowledged it by giving me a free refill of lemonade. just love this place. definitely returning

Fresh made delicious burgers and crispy fried made when you order them await at P. Terry's. We always get the cheeseburger combo with fries and a drink, and they have never messed up our customizations. And the fries are always crisp, made from fresh-cut potatoes. Why go to In-N-Out when you can get a similar but better burger here and leave your money on Texas with a Texas business? 5 Burger Happiness stars

A staple of Texas, I have no complaints. This is a clean, well dressed, hamburger stand. The service is top-notch and the menu is simple. My 3 star is not about quality. I just thought the flavor of P Terrys was ok. I would eat there again but it didn't really have a personality of its own. I think the greatest thing about this P Terry's is the inviting atmosphere of the location.

Well by my car my favorite location physically! It's so clean and spacious compared to the Austin locations, I get my burger lettuce wrapped and some would love it... but I had to pull off 3 slices of lettuce and still have 2 wrapped! But more for your money, I guess lol! I had a great time with a friend here, space was where we had private conversations and genuinely enjoyed each other's company, would definitely go back here with group, by myself, or with one friend! So clean and spacious!

Food was ok. I think it would have been better if I had eaten at the restaurant, I ordered delivery so that may have had an effect on the quality of the food. Burger was good but everything else was just ok.

Sunday 3:00 PM Restaurant inside is filthy. Food, trash and tables all covered in gunk. No one in the dinning area so I'm not sure when it was trashed. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned. The trash cans were full and the drink fountain was nasty. No catchup in the dispenser. I'm not sure who at corporate needs to visit this place??? We brought family in from Phoenix bragging about P Terrys and for this??? How embarrassing...

This was our first visit at P. Terry's and it was pretty good for a fast food restaurant. I got the hamburger and hubby got the the PT Melt. Both were pretty good. Hubby got the strawberry shake and he loved it. Said it was really thick and full of flavor. The fries are fresh cut and they taste good as well. We will be back.

This was my first time at a P. Terry's -- saw the ad on a highway sign near the exit and decided to try it. The location was very convenient, service was fast and friendly, menu was simple yet descriptive (so no one had to ask what comes on the burgers), prices were reasonable, and the food was ready within minutes. The restaurant interior was clean and looked well attended-to. Everyone in my family enjoyed it as a road trip lunch and we'll definitely try P. Terry's in the future.

This P. Terry's is a great place to rest up and refuel your stomach when taking a road trip down to South Texas. The location is well managed and the inside tables and chairs are consistently clean! The burgers here are reasonably priced and the portions are filling! I ordered the cheeseburger and my mom ordered the spicy crispy chicken burger. We also split an order of fries. My cheeseburger was a bit lukewarm, but the beef patty was seasoned well and very juicy. I tried a bite of the spicy crispy chicken burger and the spicy sauce that P. Terry's uses provide a nice kick of spice. It paired well with the swiss cheese and the chicken breast was well breaded and crispy. My main complaint with P. Terry's would be the fries. I prefer my fries to be crispy and seasoned, but the fries here did not have any seasoning and were not crispy at all. I think these fries would pair well with one of their milkshakes, so I'll give them another shot. Overall, P. Terry's is a great value for a quick meal and as a fellow Texan, it's always a good idea to try out and support local Texas businesses!

I'd not been a fan of P. Terry's in the past, stopping only out of convenience at a location near my old residence. My dine-in experience at the San Marcos location has totally changed my mind! The quality of food and service is consistently high. Staff are friendly and greet everyone quickly. We enjoy the crispy chicken sandwich -- I add grilled onions. Today's lunch surpassed in service, as I observed Isaah, a team member constantly circled the dining room. Wiping down tables, sweeping, wiping drink area. I've never seen a "fast food" dining area to this level of cleanliness that I can would describe as immaculate. Kudos to P. Terry's San Marcos for their hardworking and dedicated team!!

I ordered the fried chicken spicy sandwich, with a dr. Pepper. The drink tasted like dirt water and the chicken looked like a deformed chicken nugget. What really got me was the pickles, I understand they have thick pickles; but imagine cutting a pickle into 4ths and placing all of it on a sandwich. If this was an understatement I wouldn't be leaving a review. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because I usually love p terrys. I just don't recommend this location .

I want to think maybe I just got food at the wrong time (8pm/9pm) but the burger was disgusting and very greasy for it being just cheese and meat with mustard. I had got it from doordash so I can't really say too much about the store itself. The banana bread is awesome tho. It's very affordable and I'll try again during lunch time and hopefully its made better.

HORRIBLE service!!!! I have gone to several Austin locations but this one is the first time I am displeased. I was on the outside lane and watched 6 cars get there food to the left of me. 25 min 10/23/19. Bad experience again. Last chance from me.

Pandemic review: SAFE! CLEAN! Employees wore masks and gloves. The dining area appeared closed and everyone seemed to be using the drive-thru. The employee was kind enough to sanitize my credit card before returning it to me. Will be happy to return to grab family meals to go. This was my first time visiting this location. I bought my Mom a cheeseburger meal. She absolutely loved it!

$4 Double cheesburger, not filling, not much special sauce on well done patties. Not a terribly long wait with no line. Great customer service in drive thru Worth the four bucks... but not the great burger I was hoping for

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. I can't imagine giving any fast food place 4 or 5 stars because.. well.. it's fast food. So P. Terry's deserves my full 3.5 star vote - just that Yelp does doesn't let me do that. Much like In-n-Out in terms of friendliness and options but I will say, having tried both now, I prefer P. Terry as the more "home cooked" look and taste I was hoping for. Simple and delicious and made fresh. What's not to like?

Totally disappointing! Burger had no flavor. Fries were just ok. Had to get permission from mgr to get cheddar cheese because it's only for the BBQ burger? Will not be back.

P. Terry's is easily the best fast food establishment in San Marcos. The fast food restaurants around town tend to get pretty busy, being a college town and all. However, P. Terry's is never busy (I think because it's so underrated). It's on the campus side of the highway, if that makes sense, which makes it more accessible for me and students alike compared to the competing fast food chains clumped together on the other side of the highway. Good prices. The customer service is awesome, very clear communication, they get my order right every time. And the food is good!! Milkshakes are Chick-fil-a tier, burgers are awesome (best burger I've had from a fast food chain), fries are awesome, good vegan options. I've only heard good things about the breakfast. I only wish it was open later! Really puts the "fast" back in fast food. Rating: A+

This place is hot, fresh and new. They are true to their word and serve fresh burgers. The fries and fresh cut and delicious and they have also old fashioned lemonade. I got the bacon double cheese burger with fries. Mmmmmm. The kitchen is open, kind of like and old drive in, and you see them actually making the food. The parking lot was packed when I went there, which i took as a sign that they have good food there. They also have a double rive through. As a bonus the place is very clean and trendy and the staff is very nice. In addition to the burgers and fries, they have cookies and banana bread. The dinning area is huge and they have an area they you can eat outside as well.

Service always good here but the food has gone downhill. The burger and fries had so much salt they were inedible! Very sad.

Stopped by during a CHI-AUS trip It's really good for a fastfood. Their milkshake was a bit on the too thick side so I had to wait until it melted

Best "fast food" burgers, hands down! I love the service and the food. I've been to at least six locations, multiple times, and I have only had excellent experiences.

Went there when I dropped my daughter at Texas State. The service was good, the food was good, and the price was good. The decoration was nice and the place was very clean. Look forward to visiting again next time I'm in San Marcos.

I've been meaning to try P. Terry's breakfast menu for awhile now and today we were out and about in the morning. We got there a little before 10AM so we utilized the drive-thru since the lobby wasn't open yet. Received quick, pleasant service from the staff. We parked in a shady spot to eat in the car. I really enjoyed my egg burger, though the bacon was a little over-cooked. The potatoes were the best part hands-down-- fried just right to have a thick crunch with a hot, mooshie middle. Sadly my Dr. Pepper was a little low on syrup and not very sweet. After eating I went in to quickly wash up and use the restroom, which was very clean and convenient. :) I'm glad to have a P. Terry's near where I live!

Holy heck. I have been wanting to go to this place for near 2 years now and never really been able to set aside the time to do so when passing through or visiting. Today I did, and it is everything I wanted it to be. I'm doing low carb, so this review is based on what I got I cannot speak on the fries/shakes/bun. But first of all the service was GREAT. I mean amazing. Second of all, the prices are insanely affordable. I got 2 double meat and double cheese burgers in a lettuce wrap that wrapped tightly and orderly. All of that with a drink for $10. I'm a big whataburger fanatic, but only whataburger in Corpus Christi which is where the DC is. If you know how good it is down there, you know that there's nothing that can compare to how good it is. I am TELLING YOU. This may have been the best burger I've ever had in my life it is certainly the best fast food burger I've ever had. Cooked fresh to order, hand done, greatly seasoned, wonderful sauce. Such a vibrant environment to eat in as well. I mean this place blew my scale apart. BLOWS 5 guys and in n out, out of the water.. which are very comparable as far as overall operations and feel. Way over expectation. 11/10.

Dropped in for a late lunch on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The veggie burger was delicious, and the bacon cheeseburger as well. The chocolate shake is absolutely wonderful. French fries were good as one would expect. One strength of this place is that the menu is very simple: burgers come in beef, veggie, or chicken. There is a choice of American cheese, or Swiss cheese, and bacon is optional. The whole wheat bun for $.20 extra is well worth it. Our food was served quickly, hot and fresh. We shall return.

This spot is a lifesaver. Convenient quick and my orders are always correct, what's not to like? Local company AND less pricy than the chains? So good. LOVE the lettuce wrapped burgers(jalapeños!) and gluten-free fries. Everything is clean, sanitized, and masks are strictly required. I stop here every time I'm in SM, and Jayson with the gold glasses makes sure everything is perfect for me and my son for the crucial Father-Son bonding time. Thanks for taking care of my family.

Well, I have consumed many hamburgers at various P Terry's burger stands; however, I have been wanting to try the new chicken sandwich. The sandwich was perfect! The patty was crisp and seasoned and the pickles, tomatoes and sauce rounded off the new sandwich! What more can i say!!!

My husband and I love P. Terry's, but today we were really disappointed. The hamburger was tasteless, it wasnt the same burger we enjoyed, as when P Terry first opened. The hamburger is much thinner and taste like water, there was very little sauce if any and wilted lettuce. The fries were delicious as usual and very friendly service as always.

How has no one reviewed this place yet??? Coming from Cali, the majority of us swear by In-n-Out. And for those out here who compare Whataburger with In-n-out clearly are not even playing the same sport. Having tried PTerry's in Austin, I'm glad to see one out here in town! Let's see how it sizes up to down the street rival In-n-out... The exterior looks like an old diner with bright colors of reds and blues (I did happen to see some red crosses in the architecture that resemble the red crossed palm trees of that of in-n-out). The restaurant was clean, nice lines, and has a nice curb appeal. Let's talk about the burgers. The burgers were average sized, similar to that of in-n-out, however I will say that the presentation reminds me more of a home style, local diner type burger wrapped in a parchment paper with grease and cheese beginning to bleed out. Now that necessarily isn't a bad thing! In-n-out has a nice presentation, very clean and corporate, but PTerry's has a nice local diner vibe to it... I can dig! The burger was juicy and the cheese paper that is resultant of it was also amazing. The flavor was unique, no special magic or sauce, just that of a good, clean beef patty. I will say though, that I prefer the French fries of In-and-Out over that of P Terry's due to the presentation, the texture, and the flavor profile. P Terry's serves their fries in a small, white parchment paper type bag and the fries are served soggy, but some people like that; however, I just do not prefer that. So if you're looking for a place to compare to the local, Cali Hometown favorite, P Terry's is an awesome Burger stand, with courteous workers, and it is open late for your midnight snack binges. I would argue that you should try both P Terry's and in-and-out to see how you like both of their unique flavor profiles. Overall I would deem this a spot to hit up! Didn't really light my rocket. From the cult following and being in Central Texas for 3 years, this was my first visit to a PT. I was hoping for a better burger than a typical fast food burger. It was the same as others. Fries were fresh cut and good, but I came for the burger. I prefer a thicker patty and a little red in the meat. Keeps it flavorable and juicy. Let me know when you add a homestyle or bar type juicy burger.
