The Best Restaurants In East Harlem - New York - The Infatuation

"Pabade, a small bakery run by siblings with Venezuelan and Colombian roots, makes all of its own pastries, and also supplies many other cafes. Popular treats here include buttery almond croissants, dense brownies, and Colombian pandebono, but also sweets for those with dietary restrictions like flourless financiers and vegan muffins. If you can’t decide what to get, order the box of assorted pastries for next-day pick up at the store - it’s always a crowd pleaser." - The Curious Uptowner

The pastries have been and always are phenomenal. Tasty, fresh, and of the highest quality to meet everyone's taste preferences. I ordered an assortment of pastries for a work meeting, and the team of nearly 20 people absolutely loved it and even took some for colleagues as well. I will definitely be ordering again in the future!! In the past, I have also ordered a box of muffins just for myself to enjoy 😊

Google
Great little coffee shop. Small seating area but cute. The woman behind the counter was so nice! Felt at home. Didn't have food but we each had a coffee. One drip and one iced. Was very good. Would totally recommend!

Google
Very cool and a cute coffee shop. I got a small cappuccino, ham and cheddar cheese quiche and a strawberry cheese croissant. I paid $13. The stuff was friendly and nice but only one negative comment; there is no price tag for the coffee nor baked goods so I had to ask for the price for them. They were helpful though but was annoying a bit.

Google
Cute neighborhood bakery with very friendly staff. Everything I tried was delicious, it's hard to pick a favorite. I would totally recommend the tres leches since it was very moist with a really nice spongy consistency and was just the right amount of sweet. The guava pastry was amazing and I also recommend the almond chocolate crossaint. I'm glad this place has been able to stay open during the pandemic. The neighborhood needs a place like this where you can get quality food without paying outrageous prices. Highly recommended!

Google
Couldn't be happier with this surprise for my first day of work at the neighborhood. Love the vibe, the interior, the soy latte and my delicious blueberry scone. The price was adorable too for its quality!!! My go-to spit from now, for as long as I am doing business in this area.

Google
My son and my wife have such a sweet tooth! Every day, we need to look for a place where to have a cookie, a cupcake, an ice cream... OK... I have that too, that's true. 😂 Again, it's not always easy to find a good place in a city you don't know so well. So Google maps is our friend... Or so we think, because I can't say it's always right... That day, we tried to go to several of the places Google recommended but they were closed, or out of pastries, or were simply not appealing enough... Finally, we ended up at Pabade Cafe and Bakery. The place is super small. And it was packed because there was a soccer game. But we still could go in, order a few pastries and even sit at the corner of the bar: not so comfy but, at least, it was hotter than the outside! The staff was so nice and they gave us free pastries on top of what we ordered because they were about to close. Unfortunately the pastries were just ok, really not worth going there on purpose. So was the coffee. The price was fair too, not too cheap but not too expensive either for NYC standards. Overall it was a good experience thanks to the very nice people I met at the bar... but this is not a place I would think about recommending. Quality & taste: 5/10 Quantities: 7/10 Atmosphere: 4/10 Originality: 6/10 Ratio price / quality: 6/10 Service: 10/10 How I felt afterwards: 6/10 More on IG @runnerandfoodie

Diana made my coffee perfect and the warm buttered pandebono hit the spot. Support this business if you want good service, delicious food and the cozy, intimate atmosphere of an authentic cafe.

Yelp
Pabade is my favorite bakery in Harlem! The pastries are delicious and the staff are so cheerful that I can't help but smile too. There are vegan muffins and nondairy milks alongside traditional coffee shop offerings: buttery pastries and petit four, cookies, scones, cakes, brownies, pound cakes, and a few sandwiches (ham and cheese, tuna, lox, caprese). Also alfajores and rugelach! More of a place for takeout to eat at home or in Central Park than a destination to sit and eat, but the stools by the window are just right for a coffee and pastry break. The food and drinks are great and it also feels right to support this sweet family-owned business as much as I can. 10/10.

Yelp
This is a family-owned cafe that I've been coming since they've opened. This is my on the go spot to grab a delicious latte and pastry to go. It's been awhile since I stopped by so decided to pick up some goodies before heading to my destination to write. As soon as I walked in, staff greeted me and took my order. They come to know you since they also live right in the neighborhood and this definitely is a community spot. It is a tiny place with a couple of tables and a counter with few bar stools, it is cozy, clean and to sit if you go during quieter hours. Feeling a little more hungry, I decided to order the jamon y queso croissant, passion fruit cream filled croissant and a large cup of almond milk latte. For its quality, the prices were reasonable and a little less than its neighborhood cafes with comparable The service was quick and I was able to move to my next destination in less than 15 minutes. Upon opening the box, the jamon y queso croissant was warm, large and crispy. The first bite was sweet, salty and savory... so good! I devoured the whole sandwich and washed down with the latte. The latte is a little bit bitter than my preference but it goes well with sweet pastries. Their pastries change in season but everything I have had are delicious and they have the usual as well as unique pastries that are different than typical cafes. Come support our local small businesses!

Yelp
Quaint, family owned stop for fantastic coffee and pastries at fair prices! A neighborhood staple nearby the 6 train station.
google avatar

Yelp
Great find! Def try the "monkey bread"...delicious. Parking is challenging so you may have to double park and run in.

Yelp
I'd pick up pastries from PABADE every day if I could! The serivce is warm and friendly, and the baked goods extraordinary! Fresh and tasty every time. Go now!
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
It's cozy, has a few tables tucked in the back, there are delicious sandwiches, and various pastries (sandwich was yummy), and the coffee... it's excellent. Prices are reasonable and the counter staff are friendly and genuine.

Yelp
Oh wow The pastries are one of the best kept secrets in New York Very beautiful, unique and delicious with an incredible choice of ingredients. Get there early .

Yelp
Pabade Bakery in East Harlem is the best. Today I met one of the owners Dahyanna. She manages the business. Dahyanna told me her brother Yolfer is the baker. I felt like we were old friends she was so down to earth. I'm honored to be able to say I met her. As for the baked goods they are made fresh daily. They have vegan and gluten free options. This location is organized and has helpful friendly employees. Before the owner arrived the employees were so very nice to speak with me during my visit. I showed proof of vaccination and sat down for my coffee. It is a very small space inside but comfortable. I got a Peanut Butter Cookie to go. The paper bag had grease coming through but they didn't have plastic. I always carry a few baggies just for this reason. I put the delicious looking cookie in a baggie and rested while I enjoyed my morning coffee. The coffee is decent and after taking a bite of the cookie I knew I would enjoy the rest of the cookie tomorrow! Pabade has a big business distributing their products to other businesses. Unless you are like me and ask where the baked goods are made when you visit a coffee shop, you wouldn't know you're eating their delicious specialty items. Then again after you eat theirs you will know them when you see or taste them. Yummy! I'm highly highly recommending.....

Yelp
Service and food are great! Such a cute little coffee shop! Will definitely come back! Update! That cappuccino?! Will have you bouncing off the walls! SO good!

Yelp
Great coffee! Actually tastes good & wake you up. I've had the almond croissants here & they're delicious, packed with almonds. Great spot in Spanish Harlem. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
Finally got to try this place and WOW. Delicious baked goods and coffee. Everything tastes so fresh. I tried the guava croissant and traditional Columbian pastry with cheese and both were excellent.
google avatar

Graham T.

Yelp
Literally so fucking good, I got the raisin spiral thingy and it was off the chain. Not too sweet, filled with plump raisins. Also their expresso isn't bitter and their shots aren't tiny, unlike a lot of non-Starbucks coffee shops that have a warped idea of what expresso is supposed to taste like
google avatar

Allen T.

Yelp
Actually pretty impressed with the quantity of food to cost that you get from Pabade. I saw this on an app with very very high reviews (5 stars) and decided to try it (why not?!) as I was trying to crave my pastry crave that I've been going on. Pickup was a breeze and I was in and our in less than 2 minutes. I received

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, and better baked goods. Their coffee is also excellent, and if they have aqua de panella is also delicious.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I love this local café! DELICIOUS pastries and treats and La Colombe coffee. Seriously, their fresh baked goods are some of the best I've had, in a cute, clean, and friendly environment. I've tried everything from cheese bread to monkey bread to fruit tarts and croissants. The OATMEAL COOKIE really surprised me--it has a hint of orange and a wonderful texture. Beats any oatmeal raisin cookie. They also have savory food like sandwiches, empanadas, and quiches. Again, everything is fresh and tasty! They have good wifi and some small tables if you want to sit and do some work. Definitely worth a visit and/or a trek from Harlem or the Upper East Side.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop! I had no idea it existed or that it was so close to my parents house. The vibes are super relaxing and overall had such an inviting energy. I had their chai latte which was good. Their coffee was good as well! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Theeeee best bakery I've ever visited. I came in here one day on a whim, and when I took a bite into the nutella pastry I bought, I had to call my boyfriend. I was so overwhelmed by how good it was. I wish I was exaggerating; I was just yelling at this dude on the phone while walking in central park. (I ended the call to go back to eating the pastry in silence so I could focus.) Anyway -- I brought a box of their pastries to my family for Christmas and everyone loved them. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they really packed the box with care. I don't even think my family left any crumbs.
google avatar

Angelina P.

Yelp
I came here before work. The pastry's were really good. The service was amazing they were really welcoming. They were also quick with there orders. I highly recommend. It's a cute coffee shop. They have a good selection of pastries and coffees and teas.
google avatar

Yelp
I just love this place! - The people who work there are just the warmest, most friendly people you'll ever meet. Their coffee is great, and their pastries are OUT OF THIS WORLD - I'm quite serious when I say my boyfriend or I usually go back at least once a week, because their pastries are always fresh, and they're handmade too and you can absolutely taste the difference. They're such sweethearts in there they usually give us a free pastry or two when we go in too! I think my favorite is the almond croissant they do, but then again everything they make is delicious! Can't recommend this place enough

Yelp
COVID-19 REVIEW Short review: GET THE BOX. DO IT. It's a hard time, you deserve it, they deserve it, we all deserve it. The luxury of having a hot coffee and pastry is not to be underestimated. Get this box. You're welcome. Long review: I saw online that Pabade was offering 10 pastries for $20 delivered in a no-contact way to your apartment each week. Given the opportunity to both try a new bakery and support a local business, I jumped. I ordered my box Sunday morning (as of this writing, you have to order by Sunday at 5pm to get your box on Monday and they only do once a week deliveries) and got my box at 8:10am on Monday! It's a normal bakery box, but inside were 10 beautiful and tasty looking pastries. It's been a while I've had a pastry, so this was already quite a treat. It's random assortment but I requested a guava/cheese turnover and they obliged, which I'm thrilled by. I've only bitten into a few of the pastries so far but they are delicious. And again, what a true treat to be able to sit with a coffee and a pastry again.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Their pastries are AWESOME. I've come here twice thanks to Too Good to Go, and have not been disappointed. Quite the opposite, actually. We got their Pain au Raisin, banana chocolate chip muffin, chocolate babka muffin and almond croissant. These pastures are humungous and so flavorful. If you're in East Harlem this spot is a must for a morning dream or afternoon pick me up. Loved every bite and I'll be back.

Yelp
I had a meeting nearby and in my typical German fashion I was way too early. I found this place via the Yelp app and was attracted to it by their offering of free wifi - thank you! What I most loved about this place though was that the owner was so friendly and warm. We had a quick chat and I ordered a couple baked goods along with my coffee! Soooo good! I later learned that they were a Hot Bread Kitchen graduate - thank you, HBK for fostering such wonderful businesses!

Yelp
When I first moved to East Harlem I was at a loss for friends (I moved from Yorkville after 15 years in a crumbling walk-up). As soon as I found Pabade, I found lifelong friends. I am addicted to their flourless chocolate cupcakes which I freeze and then reheat in my toaster oven until they are melting with goodness. The brother sister story is life-affirming, highlighting why immigrants come to America! And a shout out to customer service pro Martin. Don't miss out on their holiday pies. I always order the cranberry pistachio - it's unique and delicious.
google avatar

Elianny S.

Yelp
After reading the amazing reviews and seeing the amazing pictures I had to come in and try them out for myself. The reviews did not disappoint! I was greeted by the super friendly staff and then had to make the hard decision of which pastries to try out. Based on the reviews I went for the almond chocolate crossaint, guava pastry, and tres leches, don't judge me for picking 3 things I absolutely love sweets. I really enjoyed chatting with staff and would have totally stayed to eat if indoor dining was still allowed. Everything I tried was delicious, it's hard to pick a favorite. The tres leches was very moist with a really nice spongy consistency and the added cinnamon reminded me of Dominican majarete, it was just the right amount of sweet. My nephew really liked the tres leches and he's very picky about cakes. The crossaint was flakey and I really liked the pieces of dark chocolate baked into the filling. I loved the guava pastry, it definitely will be on my to eat list on my next visit.

Yelp
When you walk into the bakery you can feel the positive vibe. Good vibe for the business. I love love love Le Colombe coffee and it hit the spot with the pastries. Gracias

Yelp
Diana and all of the staff who run this cafe are incredibly kind. I always come for the iced mocha, and it never disappoints.

Yelp
Sitting in the pabado bathroom while I write this review, had to stop here for a work call while waiting to check into my hotel. Strong tasty coffee, and the pastries are great, even cold. Workers are super nice and there are plenty of outlets for working. Would visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
COVID times call for supporting local businesses, and I'm so so glad that I discovered this little bakery. Having just moved to the East Harlem area not too long ago, I was on the hunt for a good local bakery in the area. I've ordered the Pabade box for pickup so many times and every time I'm not disappointed. I believe I wasn't around when they were doing weekly deliveries, but I didn't mind the walk. You can customize the box if there are certain pastries that you prefer. The bakery is run by a Colombian family who trained at a French-Jewish culinary school and it definitely shows. The pastries here are some of the best I've had in the city and I'm so thankful I live close enough to be able to come here whenever I want.
google avatar

Richard I.

Yelp
There are so many Instagram famous bakeries in NYC, but majority of it are all hype. Pabade is hands down one of the best bakeries in New York. The baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, and pastries speaks for itself, you'll just have to go there in person to experience it. The owner and staff are the friendliest and warmest people you'll meet, which adds to the charm of this Immigrant-owned, East Harlem gem!
google avatar

Dara L.

Yelp
This bakery is run by a wonderful couple. It's a neighborhood bakery serving fresh homemade pastries. Buy a box on 10 pastries for $20 and deliver them to your neighbor, building staff, local healthcare worker, service person that you want to say thank you to! I ordered and the next morning at 7AM it arrived!!
google avatar

Sydney L.

Yelp
A delightful surprise for my first work day in this neighborhood. Brand new bakery~~~ Loved the vibe when I walked in. Charming interior with just the right amount of seating that doesn't crowd the place but definitely give busy passerbys like myself a chance to relax. Martin was a pleasure to speak with - very friendly and attentive. The soy latte was soothing to my morning nerves and the warmed up blueberry scone was just wonderfully crisp on the outside and soft within. I don't like my pastries dry and this scone was beautiful created. My go to place from now, for as long as I get to stay in this area. Thanks for opening up a perfect cafe here.
google avatar

Alexandra J.

Yelp
Great coffee shop by the 6 train! This bakery and coffee shop is Latinx owned and they recently opened. The owners who run the shop are friendly and accommodating and happy to strike up a conversation with you. If you're in a rush you'll get a great simple coffee for a great price ($2).

Colleen O.

Yelp
A phenomenal family and minority owned pastry shop serving crave-worthy savory and sweet globe trotting pastries. One of my prerequisites for living in the city is to live within walking distance of a great bakery, it took a few years but so glad to have Pabade in our neighborhood. I'm not even a savory type person, but their caprese croissant sandwich is to die for... perfect flakiness and flavor, with generous fillings. Their gauava cheese pastries are also a must try. On top of that, the owners are friendly and lovely and always make you feel welcome. A true neighborhood spot. Some have mentioned the coffee is strong, it's Columbian so of course it is. I personally love it because I want my coffee to taste like, well, coffee. If you're ever near East Harlem, I highly recommend stopping by. It's also within walking distance of Central Park to burn off that pastry after. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Char D.

Yelp
Located near the corner of 110 and Lexington. Staff is always friendly. Every single one of their pastry is delicious!! Coffee is also good! They have Soy and Oatmilk as an alternative for those that are lactose intolerant. This place is worth the try. Glad I did because it's my favorite spot in East Harlem

Lauren H.

Yelp
Great spot with good coffee, and super kind staff! Not too bad pricing wise. Definitely want to go back and try the pastries cause i've heard they're amazing. Not a ton of seating but it's only about two blocks from central park so it's not a worry for me.
google avatar

Lidia D.

Yelp
I am all about supporting and giving money back to small business owners in my neighborhood and this coffee place is part of the list of places I love visiting for my Saturday morning treat to myself! I love the ambiance the smiles as I'm greeted and most importantly they know who I am. It's the small things that make a customer feel appreciated and welcomed back! Keep up the great work
google avatar

Aubrey V.

Yelp
This place has some of the best pastries in Manhattan at super reasonable prices. Over the last year, I've tried (and loved) the almond croissant, kouign amann (which is better than the more famous ones in the city...and is a little different because it has a little apple in the center), spinach and feta roll; a variation of a pão de queijo, and countless muffins and breads. They are all so well done! I don't know how they make such a variety without any misses. And the service has always been excellent every time I've stopped by!
google avatar

Ruthie U.

Yelp
Delicious pastries and staff super nice. DEFINITELY visit if you're in the area. Highly recommend this bakery cafe

Yelp
I can't believe this cafe lives right around the corner from me! The storefront is small and you might miss it because it's sandwiched between other bigger stores. But don't let that fool you, it's got a packed menu to offer. The pastries are all made in house by the owner's brother, and they have been sooo delicious every time I have gotten them. They offer a wide variety from savory to sweet, and everything is fresh and quickly sells out. I snagged their last caprese croissant sandwich which was just the most refreshing meal to eat on a hot day. The mozzarella is fresh and cool, the tomato is juicy, and the croissant is toasted and warm and flakey. All for $5.50! Their quiches are amazing as well, with unique flavor combinations like goat cheese, tomato, and roasted garlic. I'm determined to try every one of them. They also sell these tapenades and dips and I'm curious about them too. As far as drinks go, they're the best bet for quality roasted coffee around the block if you're willing to spend the extra two bucks vs the millions of bodegas. There's not too much seating, just stools against two walls and two small tables. It's usually easy to find seating because most people grab and go, but when this place blows up I'm sure it'll be difficult to. The owner and workers here are so friendly and truly have developed a sense of community for their patrons. This cafe tops it all, more than bigger, pricier, fancier, more "aesthetic" cafes because of what it offers to the soul.

Alex R.

Yelp
A true gem! So thankful for finding this lovely bakery! Wonderful and positive vibes the moment you walk in. The pastries are amazing ! Don't get started with the coffee, they use La Colombe coffee beans. If you know about coffee you definitely know that La Colombe coffee beans are the best! I will continue coming to this bakery. All the pastries i tried were soooooo good!!!
google avatar

Micaella I.

Yelp
Love this bakery! Diana was very helpful. I called to place a very last minute tres leches cake order, and they made it happen. Not only were they quick, but they were able to accommodate my gluten free needs. I was skeptical on having a gluten free Dominican cake because I wasn't sure if it would be as tasty as a normal one, but it turned out to be so delicious! Definitely will be stopping by to try out their other pastries. Thank you Diana y hermano!

arlen z.

Yelp
For a person who doesn't like coffee I regularly get it here! Delicious drinks and amazing pastries. It's a true gem!

Mich E.

Yelp
Pabade is the best bakery in NYC. Everything is amazing and so fresh. The croissants are perfectly flaky, their pastries are amazing. My go-tos are the salmon croissant, coffee and any pastries with Carmel or bakery custard.

Thomas S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bakery! It has so many awesome options, especially if you love croissants. There are several delicious treats made from croissant dough that are just so fluffy and delicious. The owners are also so nice, and I have never been disappointed when I go. The baked goods are definitely the highlight, but the coffee is pretty good too. My wife and I love taking our two young girls there on Saturdays for treats, and I hope they are around for a very long time. My last trip there, I got a cinnamon croissant roll, and it was stellar!
google avatar

Yelp
Run by a local who forges great relationships with customers, this spot is everything you need if you're looking for a delicious snack/cup of coffee. It's quiet, inviting, and the coffee is fantastic.
google avatar

Jo B.

Yelp
Great service with delicious artisanal delights. The bonus? Family owned and local!! I was at Pabade for a meeting this morning. It is a cozy, beautifully decorated and friendly space. I had the perfectly sized quiche and took the cruffin and cinnamon scone home to my family. They raved! Clean, fresh tasting iced coffee - no milk necessary. I look forward to visiting again soon. Go! Now! You will thank me.
google avatar

Davina F.

Yelp
I came when it was not busy at all, so I can't attest to busier morning rushes. The chai latte is pretty standard, and I appreciate it being made with almond or oat milk. But, the 5 star rating goes to the staff. They are SO sweet here & made me feel very welcome, even having only been here a few minutes. Check out Pabade!!

Yelp
Experience 1. Sampled their signature colombe blend. 2. Ordered their vegan banana muffin Assessment 1. I wanted to like their coffee but it was too bold, dark and bitter for me. 2. I had a couple of bites bit couldn't get past the somewhat dryness of the muffin. Flavor was okay. Service Perfectly fine! Recommendations Offer another option of coffee roast. Perhaps a lighter roast or a different blend.
