July of 22 I was staying in a hotel nearby this joint and I walked across the street and into the area this establishment was to be found, finding it closed for the day. Not sure what time that might've been, but the sun was up and it's was too early as far as I was concerned.
Because that week I was just recovering from Covid I wasn't feeling overly ambitious during the next few days so I just went to another area Mexican food place where it was already known to be delicious and the young lady who served me was so profoundly beautiful it was no effort at all to make me want to eat something from there again.
Today I down in Tacoma playing with my daughter Nicole (watching her enjoy the swings) in Wright Park while having a nice visit with my sister who lives in this area. Rain or bust. Nicole lives the swings.
But hunger prevailed and Kim wasn't feeling well, so we'd headed north, seeking Jimmy John's for Nicole and something else for daddy, me.
Recalling this place from memory I had to detour my planned path, to where a place, an unknown name was prodding me to find.
Found. I parked and entered the restaurant to find a Hawaiian style place cluttered with every possible kitschy item that suggests (remember when Greg found TIKI?) my minds image of Hawaii and all it represents to myself.
I see a sign stating to stay put until I can be seated. But I see only a table of four who were enjoying themselves and there meal.
I hear a small voice saying welcome and come on in.
Winding my way through the fronds of palm trees and tables I see a light in the distance and a small Asian woman beaming her bright welcome in the form of a smile.
She introduces herself as Ray (sp?) and asks what I might be interested in, dine in or dine out.
I briefly talked about some excellent poke' experiences as well as one not so much so.
The menu was showing lots of BBQ items that were what I intended upon getting, but since I spotted Poke Bowl, had one destination. She offered a bit of guidance and I gave my order and was looking forward to what would happen next.
The negative is notable but not enough so that I'd let it cloud my judgement. The floors were gross. Sticky everywhere I stepped, I was pretty certain was also tainted with something sweet that wasn't cleaned recently or certainly not thoroughly. The place is so cluttered that if I didn't enjoy my food (which I most certainly did) I might not return. And if I were to return, I'll be hoping the floor being so foul, would be a one day type thing.
But the fish was greasy smelling. Nothing off putting at all the rice was tasty and freshly cooked. The coleslaw was delicious.
Had there been more options for filling out the bowl with edemame or sprouts etc, that would be great.
As it was, I fully enjoyed every bite and was not feeling happy when I knew the final bite was like awakening from a good dream.
