Went there during a short visit to SD. We ordered some beers and appetizers. Service, our server was not as attentive, we sat on the rooftop and it was busy, but not full. Beer took about 15 minutes to arrive and were not as cold, no water though requested. She was cleaning the bar so might have been overworked, around golden hours on a Friday! Food: we ordered flat bread, calamari and truffle fries, the later was the best. The calamari was overcooked and rubbery as tires .. the flatbread was overcooked and dry ... and each item was no less than $15 (the fries). Overall, It's a cool place .. but wouldn't go back again!

Classic beachside restaurant with good bar food and vibes. Great for groups as well! They are opened late which was good for my group of friends that were traveling into town. They also have a second level deck which gives some nice views and they have a fire when it’s colder. I ended up getting some truffle fries and a burger and both hit the spot. Simple and cooked well. The service was friendly and also gave us some good recommendations in the area.

Grew up coming to Pacific and Mission beach area but somehow had never been here! Stopped on our way to the airbnb check in and took advantage of their happy hour. We did a pizza flatbread and fried pickles which are sticks not coins, plus a couple drinks. The rooftop patio is the best places to sit, partial view of city and ocean and lots of umbrellas for the summer heat. Service was quick and attentive. We will be adding this to our repertoire of restaurants when we visit!

Google
The hamburger is huge and the fries crispy. The burger arrived cooked as ordered. The Long Island Iced Teas were weak. I would not order a mixed drink from here again but would order a beer or wine. The mahi mahi fish tacos were very good. Love the view. The tables are very close together, it was hard to squeeze into our seats.

We stopped in here for a drink during our visit in San Diego. We sat on the upper level. We were seated and ordered a few drinks and appetizer. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was during happy hour and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered the Fried Pickles, which were very delicious and the portions were very generous. We also ordered draft beers which was very refreshing after a long walk along the boardwalk.

I’m not even sure what the dish I ordered was—I couldn’t find it on the menu—but wow, it was absolutely delicious and had a really unique flavored tuna. Totally unexpected and so good. Also, shoutout to our waiter, who looked like Conor McGregor—he was fantastic. Great service and great food. Five stars.

Google
Good and fair priced kids menu including drawing stuff. We had burgers - BBQ and Classic - with fries. Tasted really nice, NOT soaked in fat. Perfectly cooked to the desired state! As starter we had fried pickles - what a positive surprise😋 Watching the sunset from the roof top was nice and the heaters kept the family warm once sun was gone. We paid 35$ in average for 2adults+3kids.

Yelp
We came by after brunch around 3pm and this spot was perfect for some day drinking! The vibe was super lively but not overwhelming--busy, yet the wait wasn't long at all. Chasity at the front desk was super sweet and got us in quickly. Rob and Ryan (I might be off on the names!) were either servers or security--but either way, both the service and security teams were on point. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and really kept the good energy going. Bonus points for the free birthday shot--such a fun little extra! Gorgeous location with a great view and fast, attentive service. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
We had friends visiting from out of town recently, so, of course we spent a lot of time near the beach. With a group of 6, after a long day outdoors, we were looking for a place near the beach to get some food and drinks. Our friends chose Pacific Beach AleHouse because the menu was relatively large, and one of our friends had found some beer on the menu that he wanted to try. I liked the setting, as you could sit outdoors and see the beach, though it is not really a "beach view" restaurant. It was a Easter Sunday, so it wasn't crowded, but still somewhat busy when we arrived around 7:30. We did not need a reservation. It had gotten kind of chilly, but the heat lamps kept it comfortable. I ordered the ahi nachos. The order was huge. However, it was mainly the nachos themselves that made up the majority of the dish. I ended up eating most of the tuna and toppings off of them with a fork as the amount of nachos was a bit much. I didn't feel like drinking anything sweet, so I ordered a glass of wine. The wine list was basic, but they did have a few options that I knew I would like. Our friends had the BBQ chicken flatbread and a couple other items. My husband had the fish tacos. I think everyone felt that the food was good, but not memorable. It is a very typical general American style restaurant with decent service. I don't think you can go wrong here, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Yelp
Came here for brunch during the St Patty's Bar Crawl and the view was fantastic. The vibes are great and it overlooks the pier, making it a great place for a girls brunch & drink on a warm sunny day! The service was great and they came to take our order pretty quickly. Food was very tasty and drinks were strong - which in my opinion is better! Parking is a little difficult as most parking is on the street and pretty full when the weathers nice at the beach. Overall, great location, food, and service!

Yelp
Great service; server was Stephanie. She was attentive and friendly. Had a Caesar salad and side of fries. The chicken on the Caesar salad was delicious. Fun pub and tons of tv to watch your favorite game and sport events.

Yelp
We enjoyed the food at Pacific Ale House restaurant in Pacific Beach , CA. We sat in the outdoor patio area on a beautiful sunny day in San Diego. The restaurant is dog friendly. I definitely recommend trying the TURKEY MELT SANDWICH on sourdough bread with sundried tomato aioli, white cheddar, avocado, bacon, red wine and caramelized onions. This sandwich was not only delicious but it was a great presentation 5/5. We also had the Classic cheeseburger. I didn't care for the presentation too much lettuce. The burger didn't come with mayonnaise but after I ordered a side of sundried aioli sauce it tasted way better. I give this burger a 4/5. The service was great with nice ambiance. The restaurant is close to the Pacific Beach Boardwalk. Give this restaurant a try! Happy Yelping :)

Yelp
We wanted to find a place to Stop by for brunch ,catch the basketball game & was also dog friendly. They had a bottle of champagne special for $20. And the brunch menu wasn't extensive, but we loved what they offered & doggie approved. They had an upstairs patio bar seating which you can see the ocean & get a much better breeze then downstairs.

Yelp
The food is nice. Great location. Nice service. Only thing is the bill. We got a wrong bill that charged the dish we canceled which not served of course. After pay the tips I request a printed recipt which seems uncommon for this Restaurant. But that's how I find this mischarging. I ask for correct the bill. It takes several round of back and forth to make it correct. This place also charge a 4 % sur-charge which is not noticed. And tips are on top of surcharge and tax. I usually pay tips in good amount. I know that's main income for service people. But I should only pay what I spent on.

Yelp
Food was ok. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. Shrimp was tasty, but oily, I ordered the beef burger, very juicy, but little flavor. Crispy fries. Was great atmosphere

Yelp
Cool spot in San Diego with 3 levels. We came on a quick trip to SD, and sat upstairs since the vibes were better than the first floor. They have heaters and a nice gas fireplace which makes the ambiance even better. Ordered the Cobb salad and poke tuna nachos. Good service, great strong drinks. We got there a bit earlier, but apparently it gets very busy later in the night. Will definitely be back when I'm in SD again!

Yelp
We went to the Pacific Beach Alehouse while we were waiting for our AirBnB to be ready. We sat on the rooftop which was so nice- we had perfect weather. We got the ahí tuna nachos to start and they stole the show, so good! I got the chicken Cobb salad and it was very good. My husband got the fish tacos which he really enjoyed, and it came with a side of corn that was really flavorful. The beers were also really good and refreshing.

Yelp
Great beer and a burger. What's there not to like? We caught sunset today and wandered over to PBAH. Not a bad Wednesday. Everybody is excellent, from the hostess to our fantastic server, Brad. We asked many questions about everything, and it is obvious when someone just gives you the scoop. Today was simple: white cheddar cheeseburger and their house IPA. ( Nice and hoppy) We added a side Cesar, and it was the perfect combo. I like the vibe here; it is lovely, dark with TVs if you want, and quiet. I was down for quite a. Thanks, Brad and PBAH see you very soon.

Yelp
3 stars average out: 5 stars for the ocean & pier view from the top deck and the extremely attentive, friendly staff. 1 star for the tasteless lobster roll and over salted fries. The grilled brioche that held the small amount of lobster salad was delicious, however the dish was absolutely not worth $30.

Mary M.

Yelp
Honestly very disappointed with the experience I had here tonight. The host was very kind but right when we got to our table we got really bad energy from the server. She seemed bothered by us and was very dismissive. When the food came one of our meals was missing and she didn't apologize for the inconvenience instead just continued with her negative attitude. Food was good but if you're going out to dinner by the beach is should be a good vibe especially with the price you pay.

Yelp
Great view (if you're facing east) from the rooftop bar. Good food, great staff and best of all a great selection of house beer. Perfect date night.

Yelp
JUMBO PRETZEL WAS A MUST!!! The pretzel was my favorite thing I ate! Everything else was great too. The outdoor seating had such a great vibe. They also became out our food fast and had good service!

Yelp
I came here with high hopes actually , just because it's such a nice place. Even from the outside you just want to be in the restaurant. The set up inside is really nice, decor. Is very clean. The staff is really nice here. Waiter I got he was great! Very attentive. Kept checking on me and my friend to see if we needed anything. I would say some of the drinks are really over priced. The food to be honest wasn't great. Was some sort of melt. Tasted beyond plain. I wasn't a fan of what I got and it took forever to get to my table. I may come back one day and try something else. And parking is a pain for sure. So a tad disappointed.

Yelp
We're excited to try a spot near the beach and bonus it was close to our hotel. Drinks were good, but nothing special for the hefty price tag. The cornbread skillet was tasty as were the mahi tacos and shrimp grits. Service was a bit slow, which was surprising considering the restaurant was very busy. Overall, not bad, but not anything to rave about.

Yelp
Love this place! Casual dog friendly, great French Onion Soup. Attentive bartenders give great service

Yelp
Came here when family was in town as they wanted to go to some place with beach view seating. Came with part of our party and they sat us inside (I said first available). Once the rest of the party got there they wanted to sit outside so they went to the roof, saw seating and we moved. The server on the first floor had been kind enough to bring a pitcher of water when I said we had a party of 9. There was a decent amount of seating on the roof and it is because there is a lack of shade. It took 30 minutes or so for the food to come out and we were cooking! I don't know why but I had expected their menu to be larger. It was actually quite limited. Luckily everyone in the party was able to find something they liked. What we got: 2 beers ($16 Rockfish Rojo), 2 Starry (the pepsi brand lemon lime replacement RIP Sierra Mist) ($8), 20 chicken wings ($34.95) kids mac & cheese ($10.95) it is legit kraft mac and cheese. I wasn't sitting by the kid so no idea if it came with sides. Did come with a drink. Kid got chocolate milk. BBQ burger $19.95, nice little salad (as a side I am assuming $2), nice little salad ($7.95), 2 fish and chips ($45.90) 3 cheese mac and cheese ($16+$3.95 for chicken) Total for 9 people $165.65 tax was $15.62 and the auto gratuity for parties of 8 or more was $35.70. The fish and chips was one long piece of fish. The fish was good. Hot and flakey and not too greasy. The fries were terrible. They were cold and hard (not crunchy but stale, I don't know it was weird). The mac and cheese was basic. Nothing special. It did not taste fresh made but like it came from a mix or was frozen and they heated it, threw bread crumbs on it and called it a day. The people we were with enjoyed the chicken wings. They got buffalo and BBQ and agreed they were the right amount of spicy but bordered on too spicy for them. Based on the lack of food options, slow service and meh quality of food I am not likely to return.

Yelp
We came here for Fourth of July and had a great time. They have a great beach menu, perfect for a little bite right at the beach. It's clean. I highly recommend the fried pickles, and the fish and chips was good. We had a draft West Coast IPA. My only thing I didn't like was the music. It was very pop house music, and I know the targeted audience is white tourists. And it shows through the music.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and drinks were great! We had Ahi Nachos, Classic Burger, Pesto Chicken Flatbread and everyone was happy with their choices. The Bavarian Pretzel was amazing. Kelsey our server was awesome.
google avatar

Mimi L.

Yelp
The restaurant was pretty empty-I questioned it ot were even open. I ordered the fried Pickles, which tasted like they were beer battered (although this isn't stayed on the menu). They were very greasy-I left them uneatened. I also ordered the green omelet-it was okay. However, the potatoes were burnt and tasted horribly. The waitress said that this is how they are served-nearly black! I will never return. The service was nice, though.

Yelp
AleHouse brunch was surprisingly good! This has long been a stomping ground for me as far as the college bar scene, so I was interested to try their food for once. I had a delicious Bloody Mary with bacon added and chorizo chilaquiles. I have to say, they make a dang good Bloody Mary. Would recommend if you're looking for a solid brunch spot in the pb area!

Yelp
PB Ale House is conveniently located, adjacent the strand, where Grand dead ends. As with anywhere in PB, parking can be challenging, though there are paid surface lots in close proximity. Consider Reed Ave to find free street parking. The interior is characteristic of the strong craft scene in San Diego. Ascending the stairs, there are numerous locked bottles of various liquors, which creates a pretty cool aesthetic. The upstairs dining area features sweeping views of the Pacific. An astounding place to enjoy a burger with a view. Servers are friendly and are efficient. Burgers are delicious, featuring tender meat and fresh toppings. This is a great place to come enjoy the game with friends or even a casual option for a date.

Yelp
We had a work function for ~20 ppl. Our party size outgrew our allotted space, but the staff flexed to support us. We ordered multiple rounds of drinks and appetizers and the staff did and awesome job keeping everything flowing. I can say I'm a big fans of their wings and carne asada fries. Looking forward to going back. A few of us shifted to the upstairs bar and enjoyed the view. Great spot and great view from upstairs.

Yelp
They got special cocktail called Christmas Corner, for only 12$ per cocktail Super delicious Natalie made the espresso with cream on it , one of the best drinks i've ever had!

Ray B.

Yelp
I really didn't like that they made me leave my to go order from another place (which was fully boxed up and I had no intention to eat onsite while we had a beer here) at the front with the host stand instead of with me inside the restaurant. Like they took my food or else wouldn't let me in. It gave me the vibe that you guys were going to spit in it or poison me or something. I understand not wanting people to bring outside food in, but as long as you aren't eating it, who cares? Seriously delusional. Won't be back.

Yelp
Service was great and they let us choose where we wanted to sit. All the food was good and the drinks came quickly. Had a great time and enjoyed the view.

Yelp
Great sunset spot to get some drinks and food! Their menu has a lot of great and yummy options for appetizers drinks and entrees. We loved the pretzel appetizer as well as the mac n cheese. I recommend getting a spot on the rooftop if you want a great view! Service is also great here.

Yelp
Top 5 restaurants I've tried in San Diego. I don't know if I've had bar food this good. PB Alehouse is a large bar/restaurant with a rooftop eating area as well. The place is a combination of college kids and families. We decided to sit on a booth on the bottom floor dining room, which was very comfortable. Our server was Morgan. Morgan was beyond impressive. Such a sweetheart. Really helpful with menu suggestions, and quite attentive especially given the crowded nature of the alehouse. We started with the Fried Calamari. It was really good, cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The chipotle aioli on the side was a hit. We also got some French Onion Soup, which was one of the best FO soups I've ever tried in my life! Melty cheese and really authentic tasting broth. My Mom got the Short Rib Plate. OMG, I was so mad I didn't get this. I had a bite and it was absolutely delectable. Melt in your mouth meat, buttery mashed potatoes, soft carrots, and delicious au jus and horseradish sauce. My Dad got the Fish Tacos which we all agreed were really good. I got the Steak Frites which were phenomenal. My steak was perfectly cooked and the fries were crispy. We ended with a delicious Chocolate Cake. Perfect amount of sweetness. We will definitely be back when in San Diego. PB Ale House will be highly recommend to my AZ friends who visit Cali.

Yelp
I honestly don't understand the negative reviews for this place. Sure, it's a little pricey. It's a spot with amazing views on the beach in Southern California. You can't expect to pay inland prices. I've been here several times, and have always had a pleasant experience. Great house beers, tasty food, and attentive service. Today was extra nice since the server, Brian G. (who, by the way, did not ask me to write this review), was super efficient, friendly, and polite. They were really busy, and he didn't miss a beat. Looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
I love this place. I often stay at ocean park inn adjacent to PB Alehouse & they always can be counted on for great food, cocktails, & conversation particularly when there's not much else going on. Awesome! Amaz

Yelp
Have only had drinks here previously but decided to try the food on their rooftop watching the sunset! Vibes and service were 10/10, but food was just okay, definitely recommend for rooftop drinks (they have a frozen AMF which looked very intriguing) and wide selection of beers

Yelp
Overall: 3.5, come for the drinks and the drunchies Service: the service from start to finish was great! We were greeted and served by a very friendly staff. Ambiance: ambiance was cool. I really enjoyed the dark wood, and speakeasy/beer cellar decor and vibe. We chose to sit on the rooftop but there is a lot of space downstairs in the restaurant as well as an outdoor patio downstairs. The upstairs is nice to catch some an a slight view of pacific beach. There were a couple tables that didn't have any shade coverage and were not desirable. So I recommend more shade coverage. Drinks: we had multiple Long Island Ice teas that were spot on Food: I saved food for last because overall it was lacking. Buffalo Wings: the wings are the exception to my critique. The wings were delicious and we definitely get them again! BBQ Burger: thick patty that my husband wasn't wild about and the fries were a bit too crispy. To be fair, he was also fairly hung over so that could have an influence on his rating. Fish tacos: this fish itself ( mahi mahi, I believe ) was cooked well but the tacos lacked overall flavor. I wish the Cole slaw on top had more flavor and zest. The bean and corn mixture that comes on the side was very tasty tho.

Yelp
Decent. They sat us very quickly as it wasn't too busy on a cold night in Jan. The food was decent. 2 of 3 apps came out with the meals and were cold, luckily they removed that from the tab. I'd probably return for the alcohol and ambiance, but not the food.

Yelp
real vibey being a spot right on the beach. got the beef cheeseburger med-rare and omg so good. some mixed opinions on the food, but i liked it. so, whatever. great spot to go after a beach day. there was no wait too.

Yelp
Came here to enjoy dinner with a sunset ocean view on the rooftop. It was a little awkward getting seated at first but once we were taken to our table, our server was great. Enjoyed our burgers and drinks. View and food is worth it!

Yelp
Solid burger and good red ale but a bit overpriced. Wish I hadn't taken my 75 yo father in law there though. Place was too loud for him.

Yelp
Waiters name is Quentin be he goes by Q Greeted and seated Q Came and took our drink order 2 Cadillac margaritas, and one Dia De Tequila Then we ordered our meals , fish and chips ( South African Haddoc) such a huge portion & very flavorful. That's what I ordered. Momma got a burger cooked and prepared to her liking. The beach vibes, the view of the beach from the patio is just breathtaking!! Thanks Q for being such a good sport! Bringing us a special shot for our girls trip. And even letting me snap a couple pics of him!! If you stop by pls tell him you saw him on YELP! Awwww

Yelp
There are dozens of places in Pacific Beach to get a good burger and beer, but you're probably here for the location and proximity to the beach. Downstairs is typical gastropub ambiance, but the upstairs roof deck is where it's at. Get some lovely ocean views, hopefully some good looking people will be around, and the weather pleasant. Staff were all friendly. $20 Pimento Burger with Jalapeño jelly, pimento cheese, and colossal beer battered onion ring...pretty good! Though not quite $20 good, felt more like a $16-18 burger and fries, which were a slightly smaller portion than usual, and just okay. $8 Soledad Stouts were smooth and tasty. I'm in no hurry to come back for the food, but the rooftop is great if its available.
google avatar

Allyson R.

Yelp
Paid by card. I went here on a Friday with a group of 10 and was able to be seated upstairs easily for dinner. The hostess and servers were nice and the food and drinks came out pretty quickly. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the environment is comfortable and fun. I ordered the calamari, fish and chips, and prickly in pink mule. I was happy with everything! I would recommend this place and would go back.

Yelp
It was a fun place to catch the football games on a Sunday. The food and beer were great too.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here on a Wednesday night and the service was really slow. I got a beer cheeseburger and it was good but overpriced. My friends and I sat upstairs and the view was really nice. I probably won't come back here though.

Yelp
Hands down I wish LA had a pacific Beach Alehouse but beggars can't be choosers, right lol Anyway, This was my first time having brunch and let me tell you, the breakfast burger was amazingly delicious and juicy. The service was excellent too, we felt welcomed and the waitress was extremely nice to my son also which a biggie for me. The vibe and views were great as you can go for a walk on the beach after a delicious meal. I definitely look forward to coming back on my next San Diego trip.

Yelp
I used to come here all the time but now the staff is incredibly rude. I would save your money and go to hideaway or anywhere else! Not worth your time.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick drink , sat outside, with fire pits, and heaters. Very happy with the drink options. Manager checked on us, very accommodating. Great service, doggy friendly. The outside seating was comfortable, clean, and we'll kept. Definitely look forward to a return trip.

Yelp
Stellar rooftop located above three floors of bar service and food. Stop in for happy hour, fish tacos, burgers and beer. Grab the food and hit the beach! Stop by and stay eatin, great for a quick bite.

Yelp
Came here after a friend recommended and enjoyed my food but felt that service was a little cold. Their truffle burger was pretty solid!! The truffle flavors in the aioli were strong but not too overpowering. It paired super well with their burger and the arugula. There was a good amount of white cheddar cheese and red wine caramelized onions!! The sweet potato fries were nice and crunchy! The servers were polite but didn't seem genuine and came off cold? I didn't feel super welcomed but their food was indeed solid.
