On the Grid : Pacific French Bakery

"The morning line is long, but the wait is worth it! Pacific French Bakery is an unassuming corner panaderia that specializes in fresh-baked bread and tasty treats. It’s a family-run business that’s been in the neighborhood for over three decades. Bolillos, conchas, cream puffs, flour jello, flan, tres leches—you name it, it’s here! As this is being written, pieces of a delicious stuffed jalapeno and cream cheese bolillo are crumbling onto the table." - Ben Loiz Studio

The 25 Best Bakeries In LA

"Before you pull up and question whether you’re in the right place: there’s nothing French about this Arlington Heights bakery. It did sell baguettes in its previous life, but after quite the rebrand, came into its own as an excellent panadería. Expect long lines on most days, which means plenty of time to stare at beautiful sugar-crusted pan dulce and mentally debate which you’ll eat on the drive home. Their selection is massive, but highlights include buttery custard-filled pastelitos, gusano rolls with crumbly streusel, and fluffy tortas de azucar that are so airy they tend to magically disappear in your morning coffee. Cash only. " - brant cox, sylvio martins, arden shore

Pacific French Bakery Review - Arlington Heights - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Nothing about the name Pacific French Bakery alludes to it being a panadería, and that’s mostly because it originally wasn’t. This Arlington Heights shop started off as a French bakery specializing in French rolls and baguettes before catering to the local Latinx community. Next thing you know, this family business underwent quite the rebrand and now offers traditional pan dulces, cakes, and Latin American desserts at three locations. Their beautiful pastries grab our attention every time we walk in, like the perfectly round and airy torta de azucar with a crimped spiral design and coating of sugar crystals on top. Not only is it the most symmetrical ball of dough we’ve ever seen, but it’s surprisingly light and the perfect loaf to gnaw on during long morning commutes. The gusano roll is another picturesque bite with its slightly curved shape, deep brown color, and slits of sweet butter paste poking through (similar to the crunchy topping you’d find on a concha)." - Sylvio Martins

Google
We had to wait in la big line then the lady's were talking to each other about their business and laughing in the back not helping customers at all. At the end I bought my bread and a hair was stuck in one of them really 👎.

Google
This is the place to go. You got delicious bread back to back nice and warm in the spot the earlier the better because this place gets sooo heavy with line let alone to find parking is the worst. But over all still recommended this location you won’t regret it.

Stopped by Pacific French Bakery the other morning for breakfast and the service was really friendly and quick. Got a few pastries to go and they were delicious, definitely coming back.

Google
For 24 years I’ve been coming to this bakery. As much as I loved it, the pan Frances has lost its consistency of quality!! The service is horrible. The ladies upfront try their best but honestly lack so much customer service skills and management should have at least 3,4 people attending customers at all times. Just Sunday December 1 I was in line for at least 20 mins & to receive over baked bread really sucked. When I got home I was very disappointed. Hoped the owner would still be there the bakery ran a lot smoother when she was at the store in person herself. The burnt ones are the ones I received and the other is as they should be. I really have loved this place but Sunday was really the cherry on the top!! Take some love and care into your product like before!!

Google
Excellent pastries. Amiable service and excellent product. You just need $$$, but it's worth every penny of it! You will not be disappointed!!!!

Google
Listen the bread is AMAZING. Everytime I pass by it you can smell how good it smells. So I decided to give it a try. The problem is that twice that I’ve been there I’ve been over charged. The first time I asked for the total and the woman said $17, I told her I’d pay card, since she had to put it on the POS she rang everything up and was $13. This last time I also asked to pay card and the lady charged me $17. Then when I placed my card the total came to $21. I asked her why and she said she forgot to charge me for one of the cakes..ok cool. Then I checked the receipt and she charged me for two when I only ordered one. I want to keep coming here since it’s a good bakery but the customer service left a bad taste in my mouth. The line moves so slow literally 25 minutes.

I been going to this bakery for many years. Best bread in town.

Yelp
I drove 30 minutes just to try the famous salvadoran quesadilla from pfb, and honestly it was worth it, the flavor was rich fresh and unlike anything I've had elsewhere. I can see why so many people rave about their bolillo too, it was perfectly baked. However, the customer service could really use improvement, the staff seemed rushed and a bit cold, and the wait time was longer than expected even though the line wasn't that long, a smile or a simple thank you would have made the experience feel more welcoming.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Everytime I drive by there's a line, esp. during the holiday, so I thought the bread would be spectacular I ordered 6 bolillo, a sandwich and a pan con frijol. I'll be honest it was. Just average. Honestly kind of disappointed.of course I ate them. They weren't bad. People probably come here because it's in the neighborhood but it was just not that great. I'll continue to go to Cardenas and Northgate, or Zamora brothers for my bread.

Yelp
I am honestly devasted and dissapointed in this place. I brought my mother to buy bolillos and she also loves gelatina so she bought 3 as you can see. When we got home the biggest one is rotten! My mother proceeds to call the bakery. They answered and when my mom told her what happened they said they will return her call and my mother said that she wanted her refund. Drove back to the bakery 30 min. Patricia who sold us the gelatina and she was the one who gave us a refund but her attitude in general was not ok. She said" i dont know, i am not the one who makes this." I work at a restaurant, shouldnt you guys have things with labels and dates? ridiculous. It was one of our favorite bakerys but now we are never returning! Very disapointed! Patricia who also is careless with customers. Avoid this place! Update: Yes we did get a full refund, but we did not recieve an explantion about this beside being told ,"I dont know, i am not the one who makes this," we only got a refund because my mom didnt let her hang up and "give us a call back". Also Patricia did not say sorry nor anyone say sorry about this happening! Thats why I left this review!

Yelp
The quesadilla bread here is yummy so soft, sweet, and so addicting. Customer service can be a hit or miss tho

Yelp
Rosca First time purchasing from this bakery and very disappointed. As soon as we opened the box we noticed how small and dense the Rosca was. It was as hard as a rock and the little babies were extremely big. It was difficult to even put them in because of how hard it was and started crumbling immediately. It's not edible and we called but no answer. Taking back tomorrow.

Yelp
Worst French roll I have ever tasted in life. Bakery line is long, which is fine if the product was worth it. Don't waste your time
google avatar

Michael U.

Yelp
Established in 1986 and quickly building a following for faultless French Rolls the line on West Washington Boulevard remains today, an embrace of Pan Dulce and other Hispanic Pastries routinely generating lines so lengthy that independent cooks show up to sell their Tacos and Tamales. Open from 6am daily, a cash only policy expediting things best as possible, it is once inside that hundreds of choices are unveiled ranging from Concha in three colors to various bagged snacks, sweets and beverages. Friendly and efficient with good prices, Breads around $1 and Cake Slices roughly $2.00-3.50, Oreja are crisp with Sugar limited to one side while Yoyo filled with Guava picks up a lot of flavor from Coconut Flakes lining the outside. Not about to forget frosted Cake or Bread Pudding, Raisins suspended in Custard beneath Glaze, Tres Leches remains springy but saturated with Almonds and a thin layer of Cream that eats lighter than most but no less delicious.

Nala G.

Yelp
El pan francés aquí es toda una tradición. Cuando sale recién hechecito, suavecito por adentro y bien crujiente por fuera, no falta para los días festivos con unos panes o simplemente en la mañana con unos frijolitos.

Arely E.

Yelp
I paid a visit today to pick up a rosca to celebrate Three kings Day with my family. I love this bakery! My family has been coming here for years!! I always look forward to buy a Rosca from this bakery, in my opinion this where they sold the best tasting Roscas. Unfortunately this year was a disappointment... the rosca looks half its normal size, this is a large and it's $35!!? It's super dense and it barley has any of the candied fruit :( it honestly looks like if they picked some of it off. I don't know what it was this year but I'm asking as a loyal customer to please do better next year! I will look forward to see how this bakery improves for all their customers next year. Thank you.

Alan B.

Yelp
Just started going there last week. Great desserts but customer service needs to improve. How about one line for desserts and one line for breads! Also staff should work on their English.

Cion H.

Yelp
I couldn't mark 0 star because there's no 0 star to mark. Me marking 1 star is me being kind .On 4/16/25 me & my husband went to pick up some kinda cake for my Birthday celebration at our family dinner that evening we decided to get cup cakes we paid for 10 and Alejandra I believe that's the young lady who served us only gave us 9, she could speak much English. I have to say those was the worse cup cake me and my family ever tasted it was so dry the frosting did not taste like real frosting it was like a foamy texture and taste a lot of food dye. I called the next day & spoke to a Annie I believe she's the manager & she seem up set that I was complaining about the cup cakes at first I didn't really wasn't my money back if the baker can make 10 real fresh cup cake that was actually make right with real frosting I asked Annie. Annie said that no one has ever complained about them & that she doesn't know about the cakes because she doesn't make them. But she did say bring back the cup cakes & she would do a exchange but we could not get a refund, at this point I want a refund we don't want to buy any cakes or pasty from this establishment again. Yes! I have some of the cup cakes in the box my family tasted them & through them back in the box because they tasted so bad. I seen & read some of the reviews on this store , establishment & had a lot of several complaints about items they sell & the customer service they receive. there's even a mention about Annie you manager , that's not a manager & the way she poorly handled the customers concern about the items they bought, received. I hope you contact Mrs. Annie @ the Crenshaw & Washington store before I bring those God awful cup cakes back & Please have her issue me a refund I don't want her to replace them for no other item. I wanna mention I did several years ago bought a cake with fruit for my daughter Birthday there & had no complaint so I Decide to visit yesterday as a patronage I was so disappointed with the cup cakes & the service your Mgr Annie gave me. She was so not understanding about the issue at hand & made it seem that it was just me that had the problem.

Yelp
Best bakery flavor wise. The french rolls are so delicious, crunchy and warm on the inside if you go buy when the bread is fresh out the oven. The quesadillas are AMAZING, perfectly savory and sweet, no eggy flavor others have. Although the prices have gone up after covid (inflation cost of materials etc) they haven't sacrificed the flavor and I give lots of props to Julie and her team for that. I'm personally willing to pay a bit more if the flavor stays the same. I agree that customer service isn't the best because the lines are usually super long and they're doing their best to move everyone out quickly. Although sometimes I wish the servers were a bit nicer, at least a hello. ive been coming to the bakery since the french rolls were 5 for $1. This review is to BEG for you to add a card pay option. It's time, it's 2023 people don't carry cash like they used to. The ATM also doesn't work so it's pointless. Please add a card option.

Yelp
First time here. We got there on a Sunday around 3pm and noticed only 2 people in line outside the door. We figured it wouldn't take to long. 1hour later we finally got our bread. Their French bread (Bolillos) 3 for $1 super delicious!! We did not care for their sweet or savory tamales. Taste was just off. Stick to the bread here but expect a long wait.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
I went to a few panaderias looking for a chocoflan cake. Their chocoflan is $30, next cheapest is $35 closer to Downey area. The chocoflan was delicious and size was enough to feed 10 people.

Sylvia G.

Yelp
I was looking forward to ordering a half-sheet tres leches cake and had the worst customer service experience. I first called, the person was helpful but did not have all the answers. She recommended that I send my order through email. My email to them was clear and detailed. All the information they needed was there. This was suppose to be for delivery. I then received a response telling me I had to go in person. I did. When I was there, I had to explain everything again, then I made sure it was for delivery. The total for the cake was $70, then she said $80 with delivery. When I was getting ready to pay, she said my total was $150!!!! They were charging me $80 for delivery only!! The delivery was less than 5 miles away! I asked to speak to the in charged and told me the owner was not there. I asked for the owners name and contact information, she then said that she could not give me that information because it was private. There employees need to be on the same page when it comes to communication with a customer. I will be reaching out to the owner by the way.
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
I love this place! They need to redo their interior to allow for those who just want bolillo/baguette and don't want pan dulce, cakes, or sandwiches. They have the best bolillo and Salvadorean quesadilla. I hate the lines though.

Elena J.

Yelp
I'm giving it a one star because what I witnessed was nasty. I saw a fly standing on all the bread and all the employee did was move the bread around. I understand that it would be a waste to throw the whole rack away. But honestly, what to do in a situation like this ? To me this means that a lot of things happen and they just don't do much expect brush it off. Anyways, If you use your head, flys stand on everything. When they do, they release poop and it turns into worms. Yes their bolillos are so good but after this it made me so sick.
google avatar

Gloria H.

Yelp
Central American pan dulce is really good. El pan francés con frijoles y queso (y crema) was perfect for a taste of Salvadoran breakfast. There are other food items from C.A. To purchase. I go there for the pan dulce. Never disappoints! But parking is a big headache. Hardly any spaces on the busy street.
google avatar

Miguel F.

Yelp
Yes Julie, let's shed some light to the situation. I purchased another cake from a more reputable bakery. I immediately called when the cake was cut and I noticed it was the incorrect order. The person this cake was meant for has an allergy to strawberry (BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR HIM). The cake that was ordered had no description of there being any strawberry filling in it.. You and your Management team do not care for the consumer.. I called as soon as the cake was cut into and I noticed the problem. If the person handling the phone told me to bring the cake in to receive my refund; I would of done so. Instead I was told the manager could not be bothered since she left for the day. I dealt with your rude manager Annie who used a soft spoken Latin woman and said that she was the Manager. She tricked me into thinking that was the manager, was very defensive and rude over the conversation I had with the so called manager. Annie and the Baker admitted their faults, they both said a mistake was made. Annie demanded her cake in anger due to the fact that I asked for a refund.. Clearly Annie needs some training in customer service. I hope the rest of your staff are not as negligent as your Manager on duty.... Do not be hopeful on my return, but be aware I am making a full report to the Better Business Bureau. You will hear from them from now on..... Incorrect way to do business... as we all come from different paths in life, and are all immigrants. There are certain rights for all of us, and just as your Manager expressed hers. I will too, but through correct methods of business..... I hope this is a learning lesson for others who read this comment. Choose a better Bakery than this one..

Yelp
A wonderful neighborhood bakery with Salvadorian influences (even though the door suggests it's a French Bakery). A wide array of fresh pan dulces, gelatins and cakes at reasonable prices. Even offering salsa and sandwiches that are delicious and easy on the wallet. The decorating skills of the pastry chefs are good and creative, not over the top. The bakery also offers local grocery item (milk eggs, juice), Salvadorian deli items (fresh cheeses, meats etc.,) If you're lucky enough to get there early, there are two sweet neighborhood ladies just outside the bakery making fresh pupusas (usually cheese or been and cheese) which are so good, especially when asked to be well done for crispiness. Once the masa is gone, the ladies close up the shop and call it a day.
google avatar

Esmeralda M.

Yelp
They have the best French bread! Also known as pan frances!! It's so good for the holidays with panes con Pavo! My boyfriends mom gets it every year and now we've started going to get it! Very reasonable BUT don't waste last minute especially during the holidays cause the line can be down the block and around the corner!
google avatar

Jackie H.

Yelp
If you're Hispanic, you know this is the spot to get bread. My family and I have been coming here for years to get their champurradas, quesadillas, and conchas! Especially during the winter time, you can expect to wait in a line that goes out the door for some quality bread here! They also sell one of my favorite desserts, mil hojas! I've yet to find another bakery that nails that pastry as well as this place does.
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
I got there at 6:57pm while the worker was letting a customer out and she didn't let me in she said they were closed. I just needed to put an order for a cake. She was rude, she could've taken me in. They lost me as a customer.

Anonymous 6.

Yelp
Me and my family have been coming to this bakery for years but we have noticed a significant decline in the quality of their French rolls. The taste nor the size are the same. Hopefully they are able to fix this. Love their other offerings but French rolls need fixing.
google avatar

Priscilla G.

Yelp
Let the record show that if you're not satisfied with a product here at this establishment there's no response from the owner to rectify the situation as to a refund or remake the cake I was dissatisfied with! There was no comment on how when guests arrive they're not greeted which is common courtesy! Furthermore I will not be returning so no worries!

Melissa N.

Yelp
The mini quesadilla (bread for those who aren't salvy) are to die for. So buttery. So perfectly baked. Goodness! I wish I lived closer! I'd buy this more often than I should. Go try!
google avatar

Sofia B.

Yelp
Delicious authentic Salvadorian bread and pastries! Theres always a line but its well worth the wait. Ambiance is normal to any Panaderia in the area service is good.

Wendy M.

Yelp
google avatar

Brandy M.

Yelp
First I found a hair in a flower gelatin and now I find flies! I managed to take a picture. Never buying from this place again. They have an A rating but there's flies on the bread!!
google avatar

Karla G.

Yelp
Best pan frances it's fresh and customer service is great, even the owner works along employees.

Mari C.

Yelp
I found this place on Yelp and figured I'd give it a try as it had a pretty good amount of great reviews. I had high expectations that failed as my first time there was not a good experience. As I walked in, I was not greeted. I was amazed at the selection of bread though and had to take a while to decide what I wanted because everything seemed so good. The lady who helped me was kind but the others working there were so rude and not welcoming at all. Probably one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. The price of the bread is not bad for the quality. I'm unsure of the certain name of the breads I got but the flavor was amazing. They were a bit overly sweet and oily but they were good. Overall, I wouldn't come back to this location. Bread: 7/10 Service: 0/10
google avatar

Yelp
Best French rolls i have tried. Be ready to make mine though but it is worth the wait.

Yelp
Bomb ass tuna salad sandwich. Tuna really? Yes! Fresh baked bread & fresh made to order tuna salad make this a place we go out of our way for. My buddy told me about it and I had my doubt. P.s. I don't know if I've seen any actual French people working here but it's doesn't matter! Get your tuna on!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
I was recommended this little bakery by a friend and decided to give it a try for Mother's Day. I ordered their Horchata Tres Leches cake and omg it was delicious!!! The cake was moist and not overly sweet like most tres leches are. Never had a horchata flavored one before and this one was nicely done! The tray was gone before I could even take a picture of it. I definitely will be back to try their other breads and desserts. There was a lot to offer, a little overwhelming looking at all the choices. Got to also give it up to the women in there hustling. There was a line out the door, but once inside, they were very sweet and helpful. And for the people commenting on this mom and pop shop for being misleading with their name, I say stop being rude! If you've search through Yelp or Google, you obviously look through the pictures first to know what you're getting into. I personally don't approve of people giving bad reviews on a shop name versus the quality of products they serve. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES, especially through these harsh times!
google avatar

grethel s.

Yelp
Ok, so I wanted some baguettes. I looked up French Bakery and this place popped up. I went stood in line for about 5 mins and once I was inside I realized that the name had nothing to do with what they sold :( Its a Latino bakery not a french bakery. They have pan dulce and bolillos (birote) not baguettes LOL. Management take out french from your name.
google avatar

Andee J.

Yelp
Great experience! Amazing prices. An elevated panadería with lots of desserts and bread. Not just pan dulce. If you're craving sweets with a latinx flare this is the spot! Not sure what's French about it lol
google avatar

Ralph H.

Yelp
This place is almost like bread heaven, they carry almost everything and anything you can think of when it comes to bread. About two weeks ago we were having staff appreciation week at work and our theme was LA based culture and areas. Well for one day we decided to have Pan Dulce for the entire office and i found this bakery to be one i should check out. I went into their store and was shocked to see so many options of bread. Everything from donut styles to even central american breads which arent all that easy to find. I purchased bread for 100 people and the total was shockingly very low. At the event everyone raved about how tasty the bread was and asked where I had purchased it. I am happy that I found this place for use even when its personal purchase of pan dulce. The staff was very patient and ordering and choosing bread for 100 people isnt always easy but I never felt rushed and the lady was helpful in telling me prices for each. I will definitely be back to this place.

Yelp
I should of read the reviews before coming here. On 3/15 we placed a cake order so it can be ready on 3/26. The line is pretty long, once inside the lady that assisted us was really nice but didn't know much about cakes so she had to call the baker. We requested the color gold and the baker said she couldn't do gold but she can get close to it. She said it would be a beige color. I confirmed with my sister in law since it was a gift we were giving her for her 16th birthday. We agreed if the color was a little off that was ok since she said she can try to get close to it. My mother in law picked up the cake and she didn't say anything because she thought we had ordered it that way. The cake was green yellow with pink?? I was so upset that I called to complaint. I spoke to a lady on the line and she was really nice but she wasn't trying to put the manager on the phone. 1 and hour and a half later the manager told me to bring back the cake and she will make a new one. The cake was on its way to McFarland with my mother in law. How can I bring the cake back? Like I mentioned before my mother in law didn't say anything because she thought we had ordered it that way. She told me she can make me another cake but she would charge me?!?!? She gave me a refund for $30 dollars but cmon my sister in laws was not the color we requested. Not happy with this place and will not be back. Will not recommend!

Yelp
great quesadilla. always in high demand so you know it's good. flipside is there is always a line

Yelp
It's amazing that they've added delivery due to COVID. My delivery wasn't perfect they forgot one of items but I understand this can happen and they offered to bring the item right away when I messaged them. That's some dedication. Would orden again 100% (p.s food is impeccable as always ) Edit: they've just delivered my mission quesadilla- A+ service thank you

Yelp
The pictures of the baked goods speak for themselves. Also great service! Delish authentic Mexican bakery.

Yelp
Amazing quality of bread! My main go to item is their Pan Frances. I've been coming here since I was small and don't plan on changing that!

Yelp
Pacific French Bakery was mentioned by 'Hot on Yelp Nearby' as I looked at my Iphone screen. I noticed 3 good reviews, let's check it out, I am in the neighbourhood anyway. There was a little line in the store, in front of me some drunken guy; a bit out of place, you would excpect him at the local liquor store, not at a bakery. The security guard, an older woman, tried to get him out of the store, but she was not able to succeed. A bakery, a drunken guy and a security officer?...what a odd combination! A bakery it is, but not a pacific one nor a french bakery, actually I would rather call it a panderia, with all the Mexican pasteries. The french rolls are warm and only $1.00 for 5 pieces. The pastery, I decided to get; Eclair's I believe you call them, were delicioso. For sure if I am in the hood, I will surely drop in again.

This place is hands down one of the best places in LA that sells bread. The sandwiches here are sooo yummy and affordable. They have a variety of bakery goods as well as tasty tortas. It gets very packed in the mornings so I'd recommend placing your order ahead of time so you don't wait in line.

Yelp
I'm only giving a low star review, because I can't stand when panaderias disguise themselves by using a misleading name. I clicked on their bakery under the assumption it would have french pastries. Nope! They have latin inspired baked goods. Change your name!!

Yelp
Love this place but don't go in here thinking you're going to get a croissant, eclair or any fancy European delights. This is a Latino bakery. You'll get a variety of Salvadoran bakery options, their quesadillas are deliciosas. Again, this will be a Salvadoran quesadilla which is like a sesame pound cake to have with cafecito, not the cheesy savory kind. Perfect place for French bread rolls, pan francés, for your Salvadoran panes con pollo, or frijoles con crema. I think you get 4 for $1. Amazing. It's also cash only, so go to the atm first because you might need more cash to buy pupusas or empanadas from the vendors outside too.

Yelp
Been supporting this place forever! Guess what I found in my treat ? MOLD! I spoke to an employee she was nice but I'm not satisfied I get my money back just in my treat after spending money this morning . I asked for the manager she didn't know when they'll be available. Smh!

Yelp
My favorite new bakery shop. Everything fresh out from the oven worth the wait in the line.

Yelp
There are SO MANY PANADERIAS in LA, like so many! you have to judge a panaderia on two things - the pan frances (french bread, called bolillo), and the concha. Both are great here. and very affordable. Very kind and polite service as well.
