Several of my friends recommended Shari to me, and I started seeing her about 6 months ago to get my skin ready for my wedding. I’ve been going in almost every month for a facial, and my skin is so much better. she’s been working on evening my skin tone and its made a huge difference. I leave feeling so glowy and happy! Also the products I have bought from her are top quality, would recommend!

If I could give Shari 10 stars, I would! I have been seeing Shari for a few years now and I fully believe that she is a skincare guru/ facial goddess. When I started seeing Shari, I had adult cystic acne after not having skin issues during my teen years (so fun). I was on spironolactone (synthetic hormones) in effort to fix my skin. However, they were obviously bad for my body and did not work 100% of the time. No joke, the first time I had a facial with Shari, it was like she reset my skin. I have now gotten off of spironolactone and have had consistently beautiful skin due to Shari's facials and with her skincare recommendations. Shari is also an absolutely fantastic person and love spending time with her while she makes me pretty. I have also recommended Shari to a few of my friends and she has fixed their skin in a flash as well. Thank you Shari, I will be a customer for life!

I had a facial by Shari and my skin was GLOWING FOR DAYS WEEKS !!! Her hands are magical and I hope she has them insured cause a facial from her is worth a million bucks but it doesn't cost a million to be clear !!! She was very professional and informative about my at home care until my next appointment! She was so good I dozed off a little as I was so relaxed You have got to experience a facial treatment from Her nice clean clinic and her excellent service !

I can summarize Shari's and her methods in one word: results. I had cycled through many esthetician, diet, and skincare products trying to get my hormonal breakouts under control. After merely two appointments (you do have to be diligent about her recommended products and diet in between), my skin became so healthy and balanced I no longer wear even BB cream (let alone foundation, concealer, etc). Shari's warmth and confidence in her craft (as she should be) make her studio a joy to visit, always.

I was gifted a facial for my birthday from here. Everything was extremely sloppy, face products all over my hair, up my nose, etc. Never asked skin type or allergies(which I am allergic to salicylic acid). When I told the esthetician that I was allergic to it, she proceeded to immediately take off the mask that was on my face and spray me with a disinfectant. About 30 minutes later she said "well at least you don't have hives yet", but after the appointment she claimed she didn't put anything with salicylic acid on my face. The majority of time spent during this facial, is putting a product on then the esthetician leaving the room for 20 minutes to respond to emails. I was so excited to get a nice facial for my birthday and this let me down in every way.

I had the best experience with Shari. I was struggling with hormonal acne and she gave me such clear and reasonable guidance that has already resulted in amazing results. She also creates the best vibe. Hands down.

Prior to Shari, I had only received one professional facial in my life, which was 16 years ago. It was so traumatic, that I never went back and was scared of facials! Shari has been amazing to work with and the facial experience is lovely and enjoyable! I was dealing with some acne issues and she basically cleared it up immediately. She has lightly suggested different products, and I was hesitant at first, and she didn't push me at all. Now I'm not using all of her suggestions and feel way more confident about my skin. I don't even wear foundation at all anymore - amazing! Shari also answers emails quickly and is on call for any skin issues that come up after the facial. While my main two issues were solved by Shari (redness and acne), I had some dry skin after a facial, which was new. Shari helped me solve that issue and is continuing to work with me to suggest, or advise against, certain products. You know how people talk about their "holy grail" skin product? Well Shari Spakes is mine! She is truly a skin magician. As a longtime acne sufferer, I have had my fair share of facials and skin treatments. Shari's treatments have proven the most effective of any I have ever received. As an African-American, I was nervous about finding a facialist in San Francisco who had experience treating darker skin tones. Shari assured me she had extensive experience/training, and it shows in her work. I had issues with acne when I first began seeing her three years ago, and I've rarely had a breakout since. My overall skin texture has also improved!  The most unique thing about Shari is that she customizes EVERY facial based on your skin's needs at the time of the appointment. No repeating the same tired, boring treatments even though your skin might have completely different issues than it did the month before. Dry? She'll focus on restoring moisture. Scarring? She'll focus on minimizing it. She is incredibly attentive, and doesn't treat you like just another slot on her calendar. Shari will talk through the state of your skin at every visit, and then she devises a treatment plan accordingly. She will also recommend specific products to use at home, if you wish! Shari also stays updated on skin trends. She recently added LED light therapy options (facial and full body), and I instantly saw results. I am in love! Finally, it's always fun to have a personal connection with your facialist/esthetician, since you're usually lying on the table for an hour plus. Shari is an amazing conversationalist and she will make you feel right at ease -- it feels like catching up with a friend every time I visit. Additionally, the space at Pacific Heights Skin Care is beautifully appointed, and there is easy metered parking on Polk St. I highly recommend her services, especially to folks with skin of color!

Shari Spakes is truly a Godsend and discovering her has been a transformational experience for me. In a few months Shari was not only able to diagnose the root causes of my acne but she treated it to perfection. I am 40 years old and I have been struggling with acne since my mid-teens and I have spent a s**t ton of money in the past 25 years with no success until Shari! Every facial with Shari is different but what always remains the same is how good my skins looks when I leave her office. Lately since my acne cleared up, we have been working on that GLOW and it's the first time in my life that I don't feel the need to hide my skin with make-up. I am a skincare fanatic and I can a 1000% advocate Shari is one of the best facialists to see within the Bay Area. What attracted me to make the visit was that she was one of the few facial places to have LED treatments, including a body panel (I've just started to use - I highly recommend). She's extremely knowledgeable, personable and professional. She's also a one-woman show which astounds me the level of attention she gives to each client. Don't hesitate in making the commitment to see her! Your skin will not regret.

Shari saved my skin AND also helped solve some stomach issues that I was having for multiple years! At my first appointment, she took a look at my skin and identified some stomach issues that might be the root cause, which had persisted for 3+ years, with multiple doctors not being able to solve them. She not only told me about her own experience and the type of doctors who would be helpful but also introduced me to a few different providers. I ultimately was able to solve them and am feeling much better after years, which wouldn't have happened without her intervention and tips! In addition to her great facials, she gave me a personalized recommendation via a PowerPoint presentation (!!) with skincare tips and products while I was remote. I wasn't able to solve my skin issues in a new climate on my own, and they resolved within 2 weeks due to her tips and new products! Wow! I've seen multiple other highly rated skin clinicians in SF and haven't gotten the same results that I've gotten with Shari!

I just wish I found this place and Shari a couple of years ago! we know these places - skin care and estheticians - can be so expensive, both their products and services, and you don't always know if what is going on is actually helping you skin. I wouldn't actually feel good leaving other places because I wasn't sure if my $$ was well spent. But I don't feel that way here at all - in fact, I actually now come here once a month for a 'mini facial' just to maintain how good my skin has gotten. and it's affordable. I never feel pressure from Shari to buy products I don't need, and really trust her recs and advice. I clicked with her right away...good music, good conversation, all around rad experience.

The hype is real. As a longtime Pacific Heights Skin Care devotee, I can attest that Shari's experience as an esthetician and trusted skin care expert is second to none. I've been going to Shari for my facials for more than a decade (haven't had a facial done by anyone else in all that time) and have benefited from a tailored and consistent skin care routine thanks to her. Working with Shari has been a game-changer! I've struggled with horrible acne on my chin for ages, and after seeing Shari for the past 4 months, my skin has seriously never looked better. My experience was good overall! I arrived early and sat by the window until it was my turn. The customer before me, had her appointment run over about 10-15 minutes which was less than ideal for me since I expect my appointments to start at the time I booked for. Aside from that, I was able to feel warm and comfortable in the chair when it was my turn. Since skincare is very important to me and being clean, it did bother me a little that the blankets and covers on the chair were just reused from the last patient :/ I came here because the PCA products used here are familiar in my daily routine. I expected to have more extractions, but I was barely extracted :/ I did really like the LED light feature during my facial and the smell of all her products. However, for the cost of what I paid ($200+) and didn't receive any extractions and she was late to my appointment, I don't think I'll be returning. I do appreciate her sending me homework and papers for skincare routine suggestions.

I wish I had met Shari 10 years ago! I feel so blessed and grateful that I get to work with her once a month on my skin and it's looking better than ever before. I've always had acne prone skin and it became much worse post partum but getting facials from Shari stopped the post partum break outs in its tracks. I literally have not broken out in months despite my hormones still being up in the air due to breastfeeding. I miss you Shari! I have super sensitive, oily African-American, mutt skin. I found Shari over 3 Years ago when my skin started to break out. Until 41 years, I'd been able to maintain clear skin. I've always used simple, good products. Now, I need a little help. Shari is informed on what products suit my ethnicity and skin type. Anytime I would ask about a new procedure I'd just heard about, I would get an understanding look, a shake of the head, and a not for you. She knows, that I know how sensitive my skin is. I love her facials, although it's been a year! Damned foreclosure!!! :-( I was going almost every 2 months for a year and gradually tapered off. Out of extra money, plus my skin looked great! My skin was never irritated. I would leave polished and moisturized. The next day, a bit of rejuvenating peeling would occur and the third day, perfect skin! Ahhh... Somehow, I'll be back!

Want super soft, clean and glowing skin - Shari is your gal. This isn't a snooty spa by any stretch - more like laying on your best pal's couch while your skin is being perfected. Shari only schedules and sees one client at a time, making for the most personalized skin care experience you'll find in this crowded city of ours. Shari is an advocate of building skin up instead of tearing it down (she has a logical theory on IPL and Microdermabrasion that I I'm starting to subscribe to - she'll advise you to steer clear). She does, however, have an interesting "water" exfoliation tool that made the skin on my back softer than a baby's butt. I saw Shari three weeks ago and my skin is still soft and glowing. I have no idea how she does it, but I do know that I want her to do it to me again!

It was only recently that I realized I'd never reviewed PHSC, but I think I know why. After 2+ years of coming here, Shari feels more like a friend than my esthetician. And how weird is it to Yelp your friend?! Anyhow- I've decided I can (and should) since I first came to see Shari because of a recommendation from a girlfriend. I'd been going to SKN medical spa on Union, but after a year there I was very unsatisfied with the results. They'd put me on an aggressive Obagi Skin Care line (at age 21) and basically did very little else. The facials were all "med spa-ish" such as gylcolic peels, but no one seemed to be an expert in real facials and skincare. Enter Shari! My friend told me that Shari had "revolutionized her face." Apparently she'd been getting adult acne and Shari totally cleared it up. I eagerly gave Shari a call and have never looked back since! She put me on Jan Marini skincare (it's easier on the skin than Obagi), forbid me from using non Shari-approved makeup, and we met regularly every 3-4 weeks for facials. She totally made my skin not just better- but beautiful. Before working with Shari, I often felt like I needed makeup, but now I rarely EVER wear any. I can just get up- wash my face- and go! PLUS, Shari is super cool. I look forward to seeing her like I would seeing a friend. She's fun to talk to, very helpful, a great resource for all things health and beauty related in the bay area, and just an awesome lady. Parking kind of sucks around there (can't count how many tickets I've gotten since all the meters are 1 hour!), but if you go to the residential side of Van Ness, you may have more luck finding non-metered spots.

Shari is so knowledgeable and such a great resource for all of my beauty questions. I buy all my skin products per her recommendatiions. Very grateful to have Shari in my life!

Shari is THE BEST! I've tried a few different facialists in SF and none of them hold a candle to Shari. I was referred by a friend that has amazing skin and I have not been disappointed - she is super knowledgable, no BS and provides more than just a facial. I left my first appt with a ton of info on how your lifestyle and skin intersect (diet, vitamins, sleep, etc). As a result, I've incorporated an all-natural supplement into my routine that has balanced my hormones and reduced breakouts. Highly recommend and am already excited for my next appt!

When I first came to see Shari, I had a severe case of melasma and always suffered from extreme dry skin. I'm thrilled to say, one year later, I've found my match. After going to many med spas, and trying various skin care products/systems, Shari has helped get me on a consistent regime of skin care and even diet changes that have shown great improvements. One thing i like most is that she takes a very healthy, holistic, clean approach to the products and practices she uses everyday-- and something that I especially appreciated while I was pregnant and nursing. Her expertise, professionalism, and 1:1 quality care, has proven to be the best I've ever had- so much so that I still come into the city to see her from the east bay where we now live!

I started going to pac heights skincare about six months ago because i was approaching 30 and i decided i needed to take better care of my skin. i've never been big on facials, but was considering microdermabrasion--it seems more substantial than just having someone pick at your face for an hour. i chose this biz out of the million other skincare shops in SF because of owner Shari's great review on Splendora. what i like most about this place is how comfy and low-key it is. shari is extremely down-to-earth, approachable, and easy to chat with while you're having your facial. she really seems to get to know each of her clients individually. she's not sales-y at all, so there's no pressure to buy her products, but she will give it to you straight about what's best for your skin. she carries only dermatological grade products that really get below the surface skin to deliver results. i immediately trusted her when she steered me away from microdermabrasion because of my skin type. i'm sure other places would have agreed to take my money and done more harm than good, but shari isn't like that. you can just tell she really respects her clients, so you never feel pressured to do anything. on top of that, my skin looks great and i also love how she always gives an enzyme peel. it leaves me glowing for days after and my skin is more even in tone and less prone to breakouts now. i've slowly been incorporating one of her product lines into my routine and they are fantastic and affordable. go see this woman! she rocks!!

Not sure what else I can say that has not already been said other than I have been to many esthetician's and none of them have been as welcoming and knowledgeable as Shari. I commute from Lafayette to see her! She's not only a specialist on skin and all the latest technology, she's also a wonderful person...Very inviting and super sweet. Shari is an absolute miracle worker! I had never had any skin problems besides the typical zit here and there, then out of nowhere, I had acne and nothing, I mean nothing would work. I was referred to Shari by a coworker who had a great experience and I was skeptical since I had never had a facial but it was the best decision ever. I started coming to Shari when I hit puberty at 14 and began breaking out. I'm now 21 and have seen her once ever other month since and my skin is always flawless. she is so sweet and a great conversationalist (she's known everything about me for 6 years and we've gotten very close which is the norm with her clients). more importantly she is SUPER knowledgable on all skin types and problems, giving you a 100% customized facial each time you go in depending on the current state of your skin. not on the cheap side but SO WORTH IT, your skin will thank you!!! ps: she books about two weeks out so plan ahead

In reading the other glowing reviews I see that I am not the only one who covets Shari's care. She has the best advice, best products and doesn't push you beyond what you think you need or can afford. There are times when she has recommended I do less, rather than more! Having said that I am totally reliant upon her expertise and care...and I really appreciate the treatments and enjoy her friendship. Can't speak highly enough!

Shari is the best. I started seeing her to get my skin looking its best for my wedding this October. IT IS WORKING!!! She won't try to sell you on products that you don't need either which makes me a lot more comfortable. I enjoy my visit every six weeks or so and I plan on visiting her after the wedding too! Long story short - AMAZING, 10/10, BOOK NOW! As a teenager, I always had acne, and lucky me - it followed me into adulthood, now it is mostly hormonal around the jaw but I definitely still have it. If you have ever had acne you know how embarrassing it is and how you will do anything / pay anything to see clear skin. I can safely say that throughout my life I have tried a HUGE variety of creams, cleansers, 3 step systems, medication, antibiotics (and the list goes on!) and still, I would have at least some pimples which would lead to scarring. A friend recommended Shari to me and I am so grateful she did. Firstly, Shari is an absolutely amazing woman who knows a LOT about what she does. She takes the time to listen to you and really differentiates the experience for YOUR skin. She even makes each session unique, looking at the condition of your skin at the time and may use completely different products to cater for what you need. I can not recommend Pacific Heights Skincare highly enough. Needless to say, after my first few treatments I couldn't stop looking in the mirror and touching my skin - in awe of what I was seeing! The only reason I had looked in the mirror before was to pop a zit!! Pimples are a thing of the past and the overall tone of my skin has improved and redness has diminished. Shari EVEN took the time to look at all of the products I was currently using on my skin and tell me their pros, cons and what I should keep and what should eventually go. At no point was she pushy with products, she is just full of useful information about skin, food and the body. What's even better, is that Shari is so lovely to chat to and creates a calm and comfortable environment for her clients.

Shari is one of the last hidden gems of San Francisco. I've been coming to her for so long that honestly, I forgot how I found out about her. However, what I do know is that she's literally the best in the business. I kid you not. Not only will she bring out the full potential of your face (or whatever body part you want the gal to look at). But she's also like the cool sister you always wish you had! The minute you walk in that door, your worries are over. You can leave your cares at the door while the next 60-90 are sheer UTTER bliss. I never write reviews (I know everyone says that, but seriously, this is my first one!), but Shari has changed my skin in a dramatic, positive way. It took 1 facial with her, 2 weeks of changing the products I was using and my skin is now clear! I am working on my hyperpigmentation, but as for my breakouts? 100% gone. My skin is clearer, more even-toned and I can honestly wear just a little concealer on my dark spots! Shari knows her stuff - I trust her completely. She is honest, straight forward and just fun to be around. No more facials that don't really help your underlying skin problems! Thanks Shari!

Wow I can not believe I have never written a review for pacific heights skin care. I have nothing but love and appreciation for Shari and this establishment. I've been coming to Shari since I was a teenager. When I started to get acne I got it bad. I got the big cystic bumps that scarred all of my face. I relentlessly tried product after product. I tried proactive, Murad, kiehls, and many store brands and nothing seemed to work. I tried getting a referral from my dr to see a dermatologist and after months of being in a waiting list got to see one who prescribed me different topical gels and antibiotics. It was awful. All I wanted was to be pretty and have no acne on my skin but I absolutely hated taking prescription medication for clear skin. Reading the side affects of the mess just killed me my skin got really red and would peel. I remember crying and praying for my acne to go away so people would stop staring at my pimples and family members who love me would stop asking me if it was that time of the month or telling me to wear some make up which only made things worst. One day while reading allure magazine I came across an article on best spa in sf and it was about pacific heights skin care. It said Shari specialized in acne skin so I immediately thought let me give this a try maybe she can save my skin. I called and spoke to the nicest, caring, genuine lady who made my appointment and took me right in. She understood my pain and worked within my budget. She gave me the best facial, extracted my pimples, talked to me about things I can do to stop breaking out with diet, etc. she helped me build a skin care routine that in a matter of weeks I seen results I had dreamed of. It was a slow painful process because I just wanted something that would immediately solve my problem. After clearing my acne up we started working on my scars. It took me a few years but I went from being so insecure I had to wear make up to bed around family to today at 26 years old only wearing make up of I'm going to a special event. I almost always only wear my tinted moisturizer I got from sfskincare.com. To this day I still go see Shari and rely on her for my skin care needs and she's always there for me. If you are like me and suffered acne and scarring come see Shari she is an amazingly talented woman and I highly recommend her to everyone. Come see her you will not be disappointed.

If you want healthy, glowing, gorgeous skin- go to Shari. Shari's warm down-to-earth attitude is reflected in her beautiful, calm office space where she offers the most cutting-edge facial treatments in SF. She is constantly researching and updating her products and treatments to offer the best available treatments for skin care. I have been seeing a number of different estheticians over the years, and my skin looks better than ever with the facials and products that Shari offers.

Hands down, this is the place to go if you want real skin care. I just wish I'd discovered Shari years ago. I used to shop around for various facials at spas or with other estheticians - they always felt good at the time, but I never noticed any lasting effects. A friend recommended Shari a few years ago, and I now refuse to go anywhere else. Though she advertises a variety of facials, Shari - a self proclaimed "skin nerd" - takes a look at your skin and 'prescribes' the treatment you need at the time. She has given me restorative 'plumping' facials, mild peels, deep cleaning, and usually some great combination of all, and I leave feeling and seeing the results for days. I only wish I could go more often. I never used to plan to go out after a facial, with that blotchy funky look you can have after someone works your skin, but now I LOVE to go out after a facial, I have this beautiful, glistening glow that people always comment on. Shari doesn't push her products, but she will give you the true 'rap' on some of the other lines, and gradually, she has introduced me to an affordable and reliable regime that I swear by. Two years ago, I came in with an acute outbreak of rosacea that I'd never experienced before. Shari took one look at it and knew what to do.. I love the mini-skin lessons I get every session - Shari clearly knows skin and all kinds of skin problems. I trust her completely to deal with whatever malady that comes up, more so than my dermatologist. And finally, Shari is such a kick - so funny, often goofy, which makes our sessions so much fun (not that I don't also totally relax and occasionally even doze). My skin and spirits feel totally rejuvenated after a visit to Pacific Heights Skin Care. Shhhhh, don't tell (just kidding)!

I never write reviews. In fact, this is my first Yelp review ever. The fact that I even feel compelled to write one is because I have 2 words to say about Shari: Life. Changer. I started seeing her about a year and my skin has never been better. Seriously. I struggled with bad skin (acne and oily skin) since I was in high school. Since I've been to Shari, my skin has improved tremendously. Shari takes the time during each visit to assess your skin and will work out a treatment according to your skin type. For me, she starts off by giving my skin a great and deep clean, then follows up with super high quality/grade masks, peels and extractions (the pinching is worth it!). My skin is smooth and clear for the month! Going to her is like church...I definitely CANNOT miss it. If I can't make it due to traveling or a busy schedule, my skin literally punishes me. It's to the point that now that I am in Cupertino, I still carve out the time to see her. Her scheduling is pretty flexible though - she has evening hours (my facials are usually at 7PM) and also Saturday hours. The other reviews don't lie - Shari does in fact is more than an aesthetician, she becomes your friend. In fact, I dub her as my therapist too (she has a lockbox memory - she seriously remembers everything I tell her). Her bubbliness is infectious - it's hard to leave not feeling happy and relaxed. Her office is also warm, inviting and very tastefully decorated. You really do feel comfortable walking in. In terms of extra product, everything she's recommended, I have become a loyal user - BUT she does NOT push product. Unless she feels very strongly about its benefits to your specific skin type, she does not try to sell you other things. That in itself is great - I've been to others where the pressure to buy things became so unbearable that I had to stop seeing them, even if they were good. Parking: there is a garage in the next building over where it usually is $7 for about an hour and a half. I usually get there past 7PM so I'm not sure if the pricing is different in the earlier hours, but it definitely beats getting a parking ticket. IN CONCLUSION, if I haven't rambled on enough, Shari by her own merits deserves all the glowing reviews she's getting. She is good, VERY good at what she does. Go see her - your skin will thank you for it.
