This place is really cute, located in Huntington Beach inside the Shorebreak hotel. I spent one of my birthdays here over a decade ago and it gave me great memories to walk through the doors again except to a completely different space.
The decor and ambience was really cool, they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted to sit indoors because it was pretty cold out even with the heaters. Came on a Tuesday evening and made reservations, but none were needed. It was pretty empty for a restaurant.
Nonetheless, we decided to stay and check it out. Ordered a few items to share, they were all pretty tasty but a bit on the pricey side.
Ordered the:
-Lao sausage and toasted rice but I could hardly find any sausage pieces. This was supposed to be twist mixing that southeast Asian flavors on lettuce wraps. The sausage is really good and spicy, it was like a fish sauce chili concoction but like I said, it was mostly a rice dish with a little bit of sausage
-calamari was crispy, but we could've done this. It was more for the price of an entree vs an appetizer
-aguachile was listed under the raw bar but the shrimp was cooked. I'm not sure if it's normally like this, but this dish was super sour almost a little too much.
-the fried chicken bao buns were a nice twist, the chicken was juicy and crispy, the buns were soft, the pickled vegetables were so sour I didn't enjoy this, definitely had the balance with the sweet hoisin sauce
-we ordered the lobster roll too, but they ran out. Definitely wanted to try this and thought of Broad Street oyster which now also has a location in Huntington Beach so we'll have to save our stomachs for that next time we're in town.
-cocktails were good and strong, good bang for buck
Overall, staff was really attentive and nice. We even got glasses of champagne and the dessert on the house, which was super nice!
A cool place to check out in the hotel, but it is on the pricey side. I guess not far from expectations given it is in the hotel.
