20 Spots to Get an Excellent Cocktail in the Bay Area This Summer | Eater

"An expansive patio with salty breezes wafting through and top-notch cocktails along with namesake brews — Pacifica Brewery is worth the scenic drive to the oceanfront town of Pacifica. There’s tons of room at the well-spaced picnic tables to stake out your own party. The menu, thanks to the French-born chef-owner, is far more sophisticated than your standard beer garden, whether you’re snacking on smoked chicken liver mousse or a tarte flambee-style pizza. It’s perfect grazing fare when paired with an easy-drinking Rockaway Spritz." - Vox Creative

This is a charming coffee shop just a minute's walk from the beach. It has two floors with plenty of seating, and throughout our visit, there was beautiful live piano music playing. They also offer some specialty coffee drinks. I really love this place!

Google
Going to this cafe has a always been a nice experience. There are so many good drinks to order. Great for hanging out with friends, studying, or drawing. My favorite time to be here is when someone plays the piano on the first floor, and I love how well it can be heard from the second. I have to point out that every corner of this place is decorated with charming objects, succulents, and paintings, and the natural sunlight that comes in perfectly sets the vibe. This is truly my favorite place.

Google
It's a local cozy clean cut coffee shop with lots of varieties of drinks pastries and snacks. Has decent amount of tables in two floors. Friendly staff with quick service. Great place for study with reading and relaxing. Close to shore for walk and hike trails.

Great salted caramel latte. Hidden gem in Pacifica. Has comfy seating and WiFi

Google
Favorite spot (other than the beach) to relax, chat, play games, etc when we're in town. They even gave my son a "foamy dog" on his hot chocolate! I love that it isn't a chain, it's quaint, unique chairs and other decor. A gentleman came in and played the piano for awhile, which we also really enjoyed! Great atmosphere!

If Pinterest had a beach baby with a caffeine addiction, it would be Pacifica Java. This tiny seaside café in Pacifica, CA is so charming it might actually be judging you for not wearing Birkenstocks. I went with the Salted Caramel Latte iced, which was basically dessert disguised as a beverage—and I’m not mad about it. Sweet, salty, cold, and sassy. Like me, if I were a drink. My wife, ever the connoisseur of drinks with animal names, got the English Zebra Mocha. She was very pleased, which means it was either delicious or just didn’t make her raise an eyebrow. Either way: win. If you’re not into delicious drinks, cute vibes, or tiny shops that make you feel like you stumbled into someone’s well-curated dream journal, then maybe keep driving. But if you like caffeine with coastline and a hint of quirk, Pacifica Java’s your jam. Want me to crank it up with some poetic sass or turn it into a Yelp-worthy roast? I’m all ears.

Google
Cute coffee shop for a latte and dessert. Service was quick and efficient. We ordered lattes, banana bread and a peanut butter cookie half dipped in chocolate. All were pretty tasty. There are some sitting spots indoor but we moved the table around outside towards shade and enjoyed the breeze.

Their single espresso instantly brought me back to my homeland in France. Amazing how a good coffee can make you travel. I also tried their snickerdoodle cookie it was perfectly balanced and had a good texture; it was one the best I’ve had in a long time.

Yelp
We needed a caffeine fix and were happy to see that this local shop was open on a holiday. It isn't very big but there is a table inside and a couple of chairs outside. They also have a piano inside and one of the patrons had taken it upon himself to play music, which greatly entertained my kids while we were waiting for our drinks. My husband got a standard latte and it was vey well made - the espresso was rich and the milk was creamy. They also have a bunch of other unique drinks on the menu so I decided to get a coconut oatmilk chai latte which is listed as a "local favorite." While the drink was good, it was super sweet, which is not my preference. I could only drink about 1/3rd of it and had to toss the rest. So if I were to get it again, I would greatly customize the sweetness level.

Yelp
it's a cool little quiet spot which has a good variety of pastries and drinks. there was only one person working the register and making coffee so took a bit to get the order. this place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet place to get some work done.

Yelp
I took a little solo trip to Rockaway Beach to reset. Life's been a bit overwhelming lately; one of those times where everything hits at once. I went for a walk and found this cute café called Pacifica Java. There's an upstairs nook I wish I'd found earlier to journal there, but I left my book on the car. Journaling by the ocean was nice though :). I ordered a medium Misty Morning Mocha, and the barista made a tiny panda in the foam. The drink was mildly sweet with a hint of peppermint. I was expecting it to be sweet like all other Mocha's i tend to get, but it was a nice surprise. The Panda Art made my day a bit brighter. I wasn't expecting it, but it's a little reminder that small moments can make a big difference.

Yelp
This is the type of place you will find me reading on a sunny morning. Amazing coffee. The matcha could be a little heavier. My drink was a light green and I prefer a stronger taste of matcha. Overall would come back just for the breakfast items. The beef pastry was so fluffy and delicious. I like their way the light shines in into the windows. Definitely a instagram worthy little coffee joint.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe in Pacifica! Stopped by here prior to hiking at Mori Point. I ordered the matcha latte and it was pretty good. Also ordered the pre-packaged sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. I had the cashier heat the sandwich and the sandwich ended up being hot on the outside but still cold on the inside :/ I just ate it as is lol since I didn't want to bother the one cashier about it since she was the only one working! My friend ordered the honey lavender latte and she really enjoyed it! Either way, the cafe was relatively small but had a decent amount of seating both upstairs and downstairs. There's even some board games and a game console to hangout and play. Would recommend stopping by if you're looking for a chill cafe :)

Yelp
I enjoy going to Pacific Java Cafe every so often when I'm on the coast! Their lattes are fun and usually very good, sometimes they taste a little off unfortunately. I love that they have some pastries from Mazzettis! Their breakfast sandwich offerings are decent too, most are meat and there is (I think) one plant based, so that's nice. Everyone there is friendly and the space itself is super welcoming! They have a cute corner for kids too which is helpful when trying to keep them entertained!

Yelp
My favorite cafe in Pacifica! I come here often to get some work done and I also love bringing my friends and family here. The coffee is great and the vibe is always welcoming. There is an upstairs and downstairs and also seating outside. This is a perfect place to relax, chat it up, get some work done & even play some notes on the piano they have!
google avatar

Robin M.

Yelp
Pretty bummed because I wanted to love it here. The girl was a bit snooty. I asked how she was and she smirked with disgust and said what can I get for you. It was very transactional and not friendly.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
One of my coffee places to get work done/study! Pros: - Lots of seating (down & up stairs). - Staff are super friendly! - Lots of different teas, coffees, drinks, and snacks! - parking is right across! And after you're done with your work, you can stroll to the beach!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. I think they have great coffee and the layout is so fun. The workers are all very polite and professional. I would say this is a hidden gem of Pacifica

Yelp
Coffee smell is AMAZING!! After exploring the beach and a few local shops, we stumbled upon Pacific Java! A cute little local coffee shop with a cozy and chill out vibe! We walked in and there was a man playing the piano (looked like a local) and was just hanging out. The music, the vibe and service all spot on. At 3:00pm on a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty relaxed and a nice flow of things. I ordered a cappuccino $4 My husband ordered an Americano $4 Lots of seating! Upstairs and downstairs!! Will be back for sure!!
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Very good coffee and chai tea! We had both the Mexican Mocha with an added shot of espresso (recommended) and the coconut milk Chai tea latte, which is also a local favorite. Both are highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a hidden gem of a coffee shop ! It's behind these shops in one of the main shopping areas in Pacifica. They have two levels of seating and I went with my sister, so we decided to each sit on a different floor. I wanted something warm to eat and drink while I read, and I sat next to a window with some nice sunlight filtered by clouds. The drink I ordered was tasty and was the turmeric chai latte. The service was not memorable to me, hence my 4 stars. But I would love to came again as this coffee shop is quite the mood !

Robert H.

Yelp
Alicia (don't know if I'm spelling it right) was amazing! She helped with the recommendations that I was inquiring about since I hadn't been to Pacific Java in a while. My coffee tastes delicious and I feel inclined to come back again! Also talk about how cute the loft is
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe, will definitely be coming back to study or for when I want a coffee and pastry

Yelp
Super cute and aesthetically pleasing coffee shop right by the beach :) service was nothing to rave about as it was very minimal but we appreciated getting our drinks pretty quickly. Matcha vanilla oat milk latte - Yes, get this! Perfect balance between matcha and vanilla flavors and the best part was.. it was not too sweet! Toasted latte - I could definitely taste the hazelnut in this drink. Unlike matcha vanilla, this was more of a bitter and stronger drink but we still enjoyed it regardless.

Yelp
It's so warm and soothing to be in here, very cute and goo stop before going to see the beach. Warm smiles and very nice barista. Doughnut I had was very good and not as sweet paired with the toasted latte I had, which by the way is the cutest latte art, trust me this coffee means so much to me, thank you my cat and pup just passed this holiday. Thank you to the girl barista, sorry I didn't get your name because I am too shy.
google avatar

Shannon C.

Yelp
Great coffee, creative combinations for the holidays. Friendly and helpful staff. Love the quant atmosphere and low key vibe. Great for a quick coffee next to the beach. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
Great hope in the wall for great cup of Joe .This place is like the 90's of coffee shop.. Complete with a couple arcade games up stairs and a piano you can play down stairs..The coffee has that unique home vibe flavor..Great service and the seating is plenty.. Definitely gotta try this shop..Yum yum

Bobby T.

Yelp
I used to come here several times a week for years. Never again. Main reason, the piano is WAY too loud! You have to yell to have a conversation! I've brought groups of people here, but not aymore. And I'm a tea drinker. They used to have great loose leaf tea reasonably priced. Now, it's a tiny tea bag for way too much. Adios!
google avatar

Sushant Z.

Yelp
Good local place to sip an Americano and eat a pastry. Spent a quiet Sunday morning on the second floor of the cafe before walking on the beach.
google avatar

Emmeline W.

Yelp
Found ourselves here for a post-lunch pick-me-up, drawn by the charming beachside buildings. It's walking distance from a small hiking trail along Rockaway beach, a little secluded path dotted with squirrels and seabirds. Pacific Java is equally charming, with its vintage knick knacks and beach paraphernalia, furnished eclectically all around. Upstairs, smaller tables better for reading and studying. Their counter display boasts a plastic-packaged spread of baked goods. Staff are chatty. ICED WHITE MOCHA: Silky smooth, while still caffeinated enough to wake me up. Not too sweet. Compostable cups! Cute setting, good coffee.

Yelp
Is Rockaway Beach the great undiscovered tourist hamlet of Northern California? No, not really, but it's a quick drive from the city unless Hwy One is backed up. I came here by way of a hike though Mori Point. All that scaling up and down those seaside cliffs made me susceptible to a spontaneous afternoon snack. Oh please, not a burger and fries at Rock n' Rob's. Rather, a cup of coffee is fine, and this cordial beach-style cafe met my needs with a decent $4 Cafe au Lait (photo: https://bit.ly/3JNEcUa). I veered off-track a bit with the addition of a hefty $3 Poppyseed Muffin that was clearly in the display case since the early morning hours (photo: https://bit.ly/3FLRCyX). No matter as I devoured it anyway. FOOD / COFFEE - 3 stars...suitably filling, no more, no less AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...beachy homespun style SERVICE - 4 stars...best part of the experience TOTAL - 3 stars...hidden away cafe could be your Rockaway Beach pitstop RELATED - Exploring the Pacific side of the peninsula? Yelp
My rating would be 10 stars if it was possible. It's my favorite coffee shop. The best coffee I've ever had, great service, and amazing atmosphere. My partner and I work there every Saturday or Sunday. This place is worth the drive from San Francisco. It's a very chill and friendly atmosphere. Live piano, omg, we love this place. Thank you guys, you are the best!

Kimi A.

Yelp
I love coming here! I typically order the misty mocha or the coconut oatmilk chai latte. Both are highly recommended by myself. Sweet but not overly sweet. The service is quick and everyone there is so sweet. The cafe is beautiful with seating and wifi, perfect for doing work or just catching up with friends. Being near the beach as well, I love getting my coffee and listening to the ocean!

Francesca T.

Yelp
All the staff at Pacifica Java make delicious lattes. I'm always impressed with the latte art and the effort in customer service!
google avatar

Blanca V.

Yelp
Friendly and always helpful. Great selections of coffees and drinks. Great for a zip of caffeine and for those not needing caffeine. There is Italian soda pops and standard drinks.
google avatar

Leila S.

Yelp
The service was very straight forward. I ordered a cookie and a Rockaway Ricky. As I entered the cafe, it was awesome to listen to piano music played on an actual piano. The place looked cozy. There was a second floor, the place reminded me of a living room vibe-homey. The drink had Mexican cocoa and coffee liqueur which I never had as a combo before it was great-hot and necessary for a cold day. The cookie was crunchy and soft that slightly came apart as I bit into it. This is definitely a place where you can be comfortable study and get work done.
google avatar

Emilee M.

Yelp
Everyone that works there is kind and lovely and has their own unique flair for making drinks. However, Alyssa makes the most magical latté art and is so kind! My absolute favorite neighborhood coffee shop. And when Rick the piano man is playing it adds such a lovely ambiance to my daily dose of caffeine.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
The Chai Almond was delicious, I appreciate a fresh brewed chai latte. The service was friendly and fast, the ambience is amazing, this place has 2 floors :) plenty of seating and easy access to power for your Laptop. I will definitely become a regular here :)
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
First time here. Cool little place at Rockaway Beach. I ordered a double espresso. It came in a disposable espresso cup. Espresso really needs to be in a small cup so I appreciated this. It's a medium roast. I prefer dark, but it was decent for the type of roast. Not sure where they get their coffee. I will ask next time. I will be back. It's nice that they are right across the street from a public parking lot.
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop! We went on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and it wasn't too crowded at all. We ordered an almond milk mocha, which was the perfect amount of sweetness for my taste, and played cards while we hung out. Love this place and I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite and some coffee.
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
A solid four. The only minus star is something with which others might disagree -- the piano. It encourages narcissistic displays of very loud playing, which drown out people trying to talk or write or read or whatever. Truly annoying. But that said, the service is great and the iced latte yummy. And what's nice is that they have for-here straws. Good touch.
google avatar

Semi R.

Yelp
Love this place and the service. It's a cute coffee shop in Pacifica, CA. The cappuccino that I got was just perfect.
google avatar

Missy G.

Yelp
Always enjoy stopping by for a cup of coffee. They offer dairy alternatives and staff are always friendly. Not sure about availability of vegan food options.
google avatar

Abba S.

Yelp
Very cute place! Seemed a little understaffed, you could tell the baristas were stressed this morning but nonetheless they persevered! I got the Matcha latte with vanilla and oat milk, and while it wasn't too bad, there were still chunks at the bottom of my matcha unfortunately. I'd definitely love to give this place another go if we're ever back in Pacifica!
google avatar

Shirin B.

Yelp
This is a super cute cafe by the beach that is serving excellent coffee - I ordered a salted caramel latte with oat milk and was delicious. I drank almost half by the end of our checkers and tic tac toe games, which the cafe provides. This a great place to kill some time and sit and hangout since there's a lot to do. They also have a piano that guests can play! I'd come here not just for their delicious coffee but if you're looking for food or activities, this coffee shop rules.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
Coffee was fabulous! Quaint little place and the gentlemen playing piano kept my husband and I in there for hours buying pastries and sipping Cubanos. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Lytia Z.

Yelp
Great people, great coffee, perfect spot! Popped into Pacifica on a quick trip to see the waves.

Phoebe Z.

Yelp
cutest little spot to study/get work done + super friendly staff! my drink tasted amazing and it came with cute latte art too! becoming my new favorite spot in the bay
google avatar

Yelp
I did not get any food but it seemed there was ready to go food as well as made to order food (option for add-ons). I definitely stood out and got some looks from the current customers when I came in with my sandals and large hoodie but the staff was warm and friendly and didn't seemed to be phased by my 7am version of myself. I went straight to the menu and the barista noticed I was not too sure what to order and she reassured me that she would be with me when ever I was ready so I already felt like she was being kind. I ended up going for a double shot of espresso in my iced chai making it a dirty chai. The seating reminds me of maximalist trying to adventure towards minimalism. Different types of seating, but somehow works together. Very clean and spacious with stairs that lead to a second floor indoor patio area. Took my coffee to the shore line and watched surfers do their things while I was waking up to become a member of society.
google avatar

Maryam B.

Yelp
It was my first time here Nice small cute cafe by the beach. They have both inside and outside sitting area . I ordered a muffin and an americano . It was good .
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Super small and quaint place. I arrived on a slow Sunday morning. There is indoor and a small amount of outdoor seating. The menu has coffee, tea and Italian sodas. There are also muffins, pastries and sandwiches to purchase. They have a list of house specials. I opted for the house special of Rockaway Rickey. It was a drink with Mexican chocolate, coffee liqueur (non alcoholic), cinnamon and vanilla. It's outside of my norm as I usually don't prefer sweet drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not overly sweet and I quite enjoyed it. My partner had a mocha which was just ok. I will say that the most off putting thing was the unfriendly service. The man at the counter was not helpful with suggestions and had short answers to questions. The food is all prepackaged, no specialty or fresh, local goods here. Fine for a quick stop.
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
If you are looking for a quaint coffee shop, this is the place for you. It is a wonderful local spot and walking distance to the beach. The prices were reasonable and there was plenty of room to sit. One thing, there was only one person working. It was a little slow but worth the wait. Next time I am in Pacifica, I will be sure to visit again.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
The coffee is great and the service is very efficient. The staff is very friendly and courteous! Seating has been available everytime I have been there and Wifi is available and fast with no issues common at other cafes. The have a piano and there is an older gentleman who I think is one of the owners who plays everytime I have been there. I don't mind the piano but I would suggest having a scheduled and limited playtime so that customers who wish to chat or get some work done can choose to go outside playing hours.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a darling little coffee shop! The total definition of cute and charming. This coffee shop is conveniently located just steps away from Rockaway Beach. I stopped here to warm myself up with some tea before heading to the beach to catch the sunset. The staff is super sweet here! Mostly young kids, but they were keeping themselves busy. I have to start off by mentioning their setup. So friggin' adorable from the outside in! Their little patio area is set amongst beautiful plants and a cute little garden. They have a couple benches and a table out front for outdoor lounging. It's not the largest spot but it's super cozy. Inside, they have several tables and booths. They even have seating upstairs (there's a second floor). They've got a ton of baked goodies as well as several grab and go snacks and drinks. I had just come from Starbread bakery down the street, so I didn't try any of their pastries here. But dayum... that pastry case was lookin' mighty fine! So many yummy looking baked goods in that case. They got an extensive drink menu with a host of different flavors to choose from. I was most impressed with their tea menu. They have over 15 different tea varieties, AND you can add whatever flavor that you'd like to them to customize it. I don't really drink coffee so this was like finding a gold mine. Ended up ordering a coconut chai and it tasted fabulous! The coconut flavor was so refreshing. Plus, they make their chai's nice and frothy which is my absolute favorite. This warmed me right up and soothed me silly. If you're in need of a cup of Joe or some heartwarming tea near Rockaway Beach, I would highly recommend Pacific Java.

Yelp
Came here on 12/11/2024 @ 12:00 and the girl working by herself was expeditious and genuinely kind and friendly. I would come back just based on her! Clearly they hire quality people who connect with their clients on a human level. Will be coming back and referring my friends, family, and colleagues!
