Ann Arbor’s Best Date Night Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"French techniques, quality ingredients, cocktails, and a quiet, romantic atmosphere make Pacific Rim a go-to destination for date nights. The wine list is a worthy complement to the pan-Asian cuisine." - John Reyes

Ann Arbor’s Best Wine Bars | Eater Detroit

"Though diners are well-versed at pairing wines with European dishes, many are less capable when it comes to selecting the ideal wine to accompany Asian flavors. Even experienced wine drinkers have difficulty finding the right pairings. Pacific Rim features many wines rarely seen on other lists (including a nice selection of sake), perfect to pair with menu items like their miso-marinated sablefish and five-spice duck." - John Reyes

Food was decent. Not great but decent. I had the vegan Thai peanut noodles. Menu said crispy fried tofu, but the tofu came soft. Noodles were similar to fettuccine which was odd. Sauce was similar to pad Thai sauce. Food came out a little cold. But better than no vegan options in Ann Arbor. Service was decent.

Pacific Rim by Kana offers a warm, polished dining experience with refined pan-Asian flavors and thoughtful service. We ordered a variety of dishes and loved every one of them. The Tuna Tartare with Taro Chips was a crisp, textural starter with a bright, clean flavor. The Unagi Terrine was a standout—served warm over sushi rice with avocado and finished with a bold, green mustard sauce. Rich, smoky, and deeply satisfying—one of the best bites of the night. For mains, both the Japanese-Style Sablefish and the Korean-Marinated Ribeye were excellent. Served over rice, they evoke donburi and bibimbap in elevated, plated form. The sablefish was silky and miso-glazed, while the ribeye was charred and tender, topped with a soft egg that brought everything together. Dessert was just as thoughtful. We had a Pistachio and Mascarpone Crêpe, and a Crème Brûlée Tasting with green tea, key lime, and ginger. The brûlées were distinct and well-balanced. Our server even added a birthday candle—unprompted and kind. Service was quietly exceptional. Our young server (possibly a student) was attentive, sincere, and never pushy. The setting is elegant without being fussy—warm lighting, natural wood tones, and subtle pan-Asian décor make it perfect for a special dinner that doesn’t need to show off. Just quality, quietly done right.

Much care is taken in the presentation of dishes at Pacific Rim. Only one vegetarian main dish, Thai peanut noodles, but thankfully it is good. The few vegetarian appetizers (Chinese garlic chive dumplings, zucchini-scallion crepes) were also nice. Do wish they would add some more vegetarian options to their menu though. We sat outside because indoor seating was full, and the experience was just ok. The sidewalk is narrow and many people were walking through.

Google
Great service, the food is flavorful and refreshing takes on traditional dishes. I started with the vegan butternut squash soup, I got the large bowl and didn’t finish! The dumplings and zucchini pancakes disappeared in between dipping and chatting. I got the peanut sauce noodles for a main and thought halfway thru, this is so good and I can stop right now, then I ate the other half, it was so good! Olivia had the tuna dish, the presentation is lovely and she enjoyed every bite.

Since my last visit in 2011, I came back with my son. This place uniquely offers some menus in Korean-French styles. We had tartare for the starter and sablefish and prawns for the main entrees. Sablefish was amazing (like sea bass tenderness) as before but i felt a bit too sweet this time. The best part was warm chocolate cake with ice creme. Don't miss this even you are full

My wife and I went here for an anniversary dinner, which did not disappoint. We have been here a few times now, and every time it is excellent. We started with the Thai calamari. It was cooked absolutely perfectly. The calamari was very tender, and the outside was fried crispy. The sauce was fruity and had a nice vinegary punch to it as well. My only critique is that it could have used more salt. Some pieces were salted nicely, but others needed more. For the main dish, I had the Duck and my wife had the Tuna. The duck was cooked to a nice medium rare along with a 5-spice reduction sauce, and it was delicious. It came with broccoli and a cheesy risotto. The tuna was served raw with a ginger-miso-wasabi sauce. It was so good. Service is always excellent. Lastly, we had a sample of the Mango Thai basil sorbet, it too was excellent, very Thai basil forward, which I really like. We left very satisfied.

Google
Amazing service. Great atmosphere. Some good flavors but spotty execution. Some of the meat dishes were very (blue) rare rather than medium rare that we preferred. The desserts were phenomenal. The matcha cheesecake is to die for!

Fabulous place for dinner. The food is really good, especially the sable fish! The space is beautiful. The staff is so friendly. An overall wonderful experience! Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is a very deceptive place. The outside is not that great but it is hiding some of the best food in Michigan. I almost do not want to tell you much about the place. Just go. You will not regret it. I do have to say. Get the duck. That is the only hint for this review If you agree with me let me know. This place is great

Yelp
Due to the graduation ceremonies, the restaurant had a three-course fixed-price menu. Reservations had to be pre-purchased a couple months in advance. Knowing the number of customers who would be dining tonight, they should have been well-prepared. In general, the service was slow. Several drink orders were forgotten and the waitstaff had to be reminded. Another waitstaff accidentally served another table's drink order. The majority of the three-course menu came from their standard menu. I opted for the spicier dishes. Of the items chosen, the Thai Hot and Sour Soup does not appear to be on their regular menu and the crab cake is only a single piece. I enjoyed Southeast Asian Crab Cake especially with the cilantro-lime sauce. The hot and sour soup was unfortunately more sour than hot. The Korean-Marinated Ribeye had a number of slices which were just fatty pieces. Its chili sauce added flavor but very light on the spiciness. Luckily, I read the Warm Chocolate Cake required a 20-minute notice. Our waitress did not provide that warning. The cake was extremely rich which made the toasted coconut-Kahlúa ice cream a necessity. It was difficult eating the cake once the ice cream had either been eaten. For a premium restaurant, I was disappointed with the ambiance. There was a gender neutral restroom on the main floor. When that was occupied, I was told there was another downstairs. Although I could only find one other gender-neutral restroom, I really hope there were more than two restrooms in the entire restaurant. The toilet in the downstairs restroom would not flush properly. I made sure to inform an employee when I returned upstairs.

Yelp
I was excited to finally try this Ann Arbor staple. This is a very fish forward restaurant with lots of fresh options. however, if you want something like chicken, there are options on the menu. they also have many gluten-free options for our celiac friends. The cocktails are beautiful and delicious. I ordered the scallops and they were made perfectly not overcooked and served over greens and rice. Many other people I was with ordered sablefish. My friend let me taste some of hers, and that was very good. It was light and delicious. The inside the restaurant had a little bit of a retro vibe. It is clearly a place that the University of Michigan departments take candidates for dinner. I ordered ginger tea, and it was very refreshing. Although I did not eat any desserts the folks that ordered the crème brûlée seemed happy. I'm excited to come back and try new dishes.

Yelp
Excellent food, expertly prepared. Lots of loyal customers from the days back off of Washtenaw on medical hill. One of the few places to make a successful transition from campus eats to upscale dining

Yelp
Five Stars has to be earned. Pacific Rim has excelled and earns them repeatedly with every visit. Where to begin. I came here so many years ago, I loved it. Fast forward, I had food allergy/intolerances come up. I figured there was no way they could work with them. One day a month ago I decided to call on a whim. The man who answered the phone (Kyle) was friendly. I explained my allergies and he assured me they had worked with similar allergies before and there would be no issues. I basically ran there. We had the best server that evening. He was friendly, helpful, respectful and made me feel very welcome as opposed to difficult. He checked with the kitchen several times to make sure I would be safe ordering. I was even able to get an appetizer which never happens. We have been back many times since. The food is consistently amazing as is the service we have had. A month or so ago there was a delectable Grilled Octopus appetizer. It was so good we had to order two. I hope that it will be back soon so I can order it again. My husband loves the Thai Peanut Noodles. The Sable Fish is my favorite. I can't branch out as much as I wish because of my food allergies. We've brought friends in recently, so I have also included some of their dinners as they were delicious and beautiful to look at. The Calamari appetizer is delicious and it was perfectly cooked when I had it. My friends ordered the Crab Cakes which they devoured as well as the Coconut Curry Soup. They have a decent Wine, Beer and Cocktail menu. As well as their delicious Ginger Tea. If I had one small complaint it would be seating. Some of the tables are on top of each other which doesn't make for as pleasant of an experience when trying to have conversations. Or if you are someone like myself, who has health issues and needs to be cautious, yet still wants to be able to come in for dinner these days. Every time we come in I am already looking forward to my next meal here! Definitely a must if you haven't stopped in yet.

Yelp
My favorite thing might have been the ginger mango cinnamon mocktail! I could have drank a big glass. Based on your review of Pacific Rim in Ann Arbor: The eel terrine seems standard, akin to a regular eel roll. If you've had an eel avocado roll, it tastes just like this terrine but less expensive. The pancake, described as a crepe on the menu, was egg-forward and thick for a crepe, accompanied by a good dipping sauce. The saddlefish resembled creamy cod, served with both rice and noodles, which felt redundant due to the lack of a substantial sauce. Some bok choy or other vegetable would be more suitable instead of rice. I probably could have asked for that, but the menu didn't say that it was rice. It was dressed with the same sauce as the eel. The duck, while spiced well, was a little chewy and could have used a harder sear on the skin. The creme brulee, though enjoyable, lacked a stronger matcha flavor; however, the lime and ginger options proved satisfying. Finally, the molten chocolate cake lived up to expectations, delivering a very good and predictable experience.

Yelp
Went to Pacific Rim for a date night and it was a really positive experience! The ambiance was dimly lit and service was kind. It was mildly hard to get a servers attention but it was packed so not too surprising. Overall the food was wonderful. We'll have to try the seafood next time but got two entrees, both of which were generous portions. My husband and I both agree that we wish the veg portion were larger (boy choy & califlower) as the starch and proteins were very generous but none-the-less, a wonderful meal that we'd go back to!

Yelp
The vibes are great in pacific rim. We went on a Thursday night and the restaurant was lively even for a later reservation. We ordered the shrimp, and tuna tartare to start. The tartare wasn't great but we loved the shrimp. We also had dumplings which were good. The mains were highlight. We loved the scallops and the steak was amazing.
google avatar

Shelly P.

Yelp
I had very high hopes and expectations with pacific rim, the food was average at most. It didn't live up to the expectation or the "premium-ness" that we were told. The ambiance was great but service was not the best. The portions were very generous but their duck was undercooked severely.

Yelp
Great Japanese restaurant! I came for Valentine's Day in 2022 for the tasting menu and it was spectacular. So good, that I had to come back for my anniversary again! They have a great selection of wine, and their food is amazing. The ambiance is great and the attention to service is amazing. Beside the crème brûlée tasting (matcha is my favorite), I had the tuna tartare, eel, and duck. The tuna tartare was more like a paste than my usually tartare which was a little weird but the flavor is great. The eel was amazing, and the duck is definitely my favorite out of everything

Yelp
Restaurant week 2023 We need to put this restaurant in the rotation. Pacific Rim is still as excellent as ever. I started with a Red Viper cocktail. The description was a little odd but I trusted the server when she said it was really good and was blown away at the complexity of this drink. Every ingredient was subtle and complementary, but on paper, it didn't sound good at all. Excellent drink and highly recommended if you like cocktails with a bit of heat. Hubs had an old fashioned that was garnished with, with a lemon peel. PR put their own spin on it and I would have happily drank it myself. I ordered the zucchini pancake and pork belly as starters. My hubs was a trooper and tried it but it wasn't for him. It's a good hearty starter to take the edge off your hunger but keep the cocktail from going straight to your head :) The pork belly appetizer was just ok. I expected it to be crispy. It was a bit dry and not crispy at all. For mains, He had the Wasabi peppercorn filet. Don't let the name scare you off of it. It's not crusted in spicy wasabi. This is the only thing my husband will order here and always forgets to tell them leave off the sauce under the steak. Not his favorite and I get it. It's a bit pungent. Fine for some but not for us. My scallops from the restaurant week special were amazing. Portion, quality and scallop size. The generous sauce in the dish had tones of the squash soup but kicked up. Very good. I did opt for the suggested flight of wine with the dishes. I asked the server to check that I had the correct wine for the last dish. It was awful and conflicted with the scallops. I am not usually one to send back wine, usually I power through but just couldn't on this wine. It was that bad and interrupted the flavor of the meal. I am very surprised that she didn't offer to replace it with something else. She just took it away. No recovery. Dessert we had the crème brulee flight. Three small dishes for two people to get a good bite of each flavor. It was the perfect topper to the meal. Bill was around $120 for what we ordered. It was a fine date night. They didn't check all the boxes but we will definitely be back.

Yelp
I had a lovely dinner at Pacific Rim. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly while giving me the space to read the book I brought with me. The atmosphere is cozy and not too loud. I noticed that they had managed to actually get a bottle of green chartreuse so I had to have a last word cocktail, which they did a brilliant job of. The tuna tartare was very nice and the scallops were cooked nicely. The curry sauce was probably my favorite part of the scallops dish. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby!

Yelp
First time trying this place after having lived in A2 for more than 10 years! Came to celebrate a birthday for a family member. We knew ahead of time this is a meat-heavy menu, but they did offer some vegetarian options, some even vegan or could be made vegan if asked. They have a wide array of cocktails, mocktails and some sake as well. My husband and I ended up ordering all their vegetarian/vegan items and split them all so we could try them: * Zucchini crepes -- these were very flavorful and good and the side sauce and pickled veggies were an added bonus * Dumplings -- vegetarian filed dumplings and you could tell the dumplings are made from scratch - delicious! * Coconut Curry soup - this stole the show for me. It was so flavorful, so good and actually quite hearty despite being a clear vegan broth * Thai peanut noodles (main dish) - This was OK. There wasn't really any tofu in it and the peanut sauce thickened up that it was kind of gluey-gooey. I'm not sure I'd order it again and might just stick to the apps and cocktails next time. Overall, our service was perfection, the drinks were great and my BIL even got a free dessert - a creme brulee tasting -- which he said was delicious! I hope to come back again soon!

Yelp
My girlfriend has loved this spot for years. She finally had a chance to take me. The cost for the level of food here is on the low! The preparation and presentation was particularly strict and mouth watering. Pacific Rum incorporates many flavors in their dishes which all come together for many wonderful bites. The ONLY reason I'm leaving a near perfect review is because of the tightness of the space and lack of mobility getting to and from your table. Thank you Pacific Rim!!

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! We went here for our first time for restaurant week this week. We made a reservation last week and watched them have to turn the non-reservation folks away. We had a lovely server, the restaurant is beautiful, and we sat next to a wonderful couple. It was all in all a great experience. The best part, of-course, was the food. I started with spring rolls, which were a delicate wrap fried well and stuffed! My husband chose the crab cake, and I wanted to just spoon the sauce into my mouth! The salads were good. And for the entree, he had the Korean bbq which was soo beautifully marinated, it sang with flavor. I had the pork loin wrapped in bacon and there was such a depth to it. We finished off with the chocolate cake. Everything was amazing! We have made our reservations for our next visit!!
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for their restaurant week menu alone, which I thought was a phenomenal deal for the quality and quantity of food that was presented! For $35 I was thoroughly impressed with how generous the portion sizes were, how great the service was, and how tasty the food was! Some standouts of the RW menu were the pork belly, the ribeye, and the scallops(that fried rice it's served with is so good!)! I would love to dine here again and try more of the menu in the future. They also have a great craft cocktail menu that I highly recommend if you're a fan of those!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week and did the 3 course menu for $35. Course 1- Saigon Spring Rolls. 3.5/5. They were kinda soft and not super crispy. Tasty but nothing special. Course 2-Roasted Winter Squash Soup. 4/5. Creamy with small pieces of bacon for added flavor and a nice crunch. Didn't taste any "roasted" flavor. Course 3-Korean Marinated Ribeye. 5/5. Asked for well done and it was still super tender and moist. Good size ribeye cut up on top of crispy rice. Similar to bibimbap and served with a quail egg on top. Overall, pretty solid food and service was great.

David G.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Great atmosphere. Sable fish was great and enjoyed the cocktails.

Lidia K.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant I have tried in Ann Arbor so far. I came for restaurant week dinner and honestly and unexpectedly I had a better experience here than a restaurant week dinner at a 1-Michelin star place in Chicago. The flavors and textures were really good. The food is Asian fusion, which isn't necessarily the most authentic but the flavors were authentic in inspiration. My favorite would have to be the dessert though. We got the mango Thai basil and orange yuzu sorbets-- best sorbets I've had in a long time
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
We have celebrated so many wonderful occasions here! Whenever I think of Pacific Rim, I think of those happy times, delicious cocktails, and vibrant food. The service is always friendly and happy to make recommendations, and the space itself is very clean/calming with bamboo and natural wood tones. My husband can never pass up the Saigon spring rolls or Thai-style calamari, and I love Thai peanut noodles! We are definitely due to come in again soon and try more favorites on the menu after reading other reviews.
google avatar

Annick G.

Yelp
Pretty tasty overall! The menu has some unique dishes that you can't get anywhere else in AA. Everything I have tried has been flavorful and cooked well, and the service has been great. I also appreciate that you can make reservations. This is a nice place for a fancier dinner that doesn't totally break the bank!

Yelp
Love, love, love this restaurant. The salmon is one of my favorites in Ann Arbor. The bartenders are fantastic & I highly recommend getting a moscow mule here if that's your flavor. Indoor seating is a bit tight, which is the norm in Ann Arbor but worth the trip and the price for this place.

Yelp
Tonight was dined here in search of tasty Asian cuisine and that is what we indeed found. We had never been here before and found the atmosphere and aesthetic clean and airy. We were greeted by a friendly server who knows the menu and offered recommendations based on our preferences. For starters we had the Calamari and the crab cakes. The Calamari was excellent; tasty and a generous portion;perfect for sharing 4.5/5. The crab cakes were decent but would have preferred a lumped consistency and less filler. 3/5. Our main courses were all excellent. My father had the bouillabaisse and it was a crowd pleaser 5/5. I had the peanut noodles and added scallops. It was really tasty and good balance but the chef got a tad aggressive with the zucchini 4/5. The duck was very tasty and was accompanied by an amazing risotto. 5/5 Highly recommend the banana ice cream! Very nice food, we will put this in our regular rotation.

Yelp
Excited to have dinner here. The reviews were top notch. Restaurant decor was inviting and we learned that the owner and chef was also a wood craftsman and did all the interior wood work. Beautiful Japanese workmanship. Felt and smelt like we were in Japan. Started with the appetizers, Calamari, was good. Spring rolls were not fresh cooked, and served dried and cold. Vegetable gyoza was tasty. Octopus bits were served on a rice cake. Nice but too chewy and the octopus pieces were tiny. Sliced Belly pork was served teriyaki style on some wilted lettuce or cabbage. Nothing was outstanding or stuck out as exceptional. Everyone was served a toss salad with every entree, the dressing was delicious and salad cold and crisp. Our main dishes took extra long to be served from the order to table was 50 mins. There was a lag of 20 mins between our salad and main meal. I ordered the lemongrass marinated chicken. Take a look at my photo. The chicken was an airline breast. A breast meat with a drumette attached. It was served cardboard dry and tasteless. Actually the only part of the chicken that even had a flavor of lemongrass was the tiny drumette. Also ordered was the Black Cod. Menu called it a Pan fried Sable Fish. When we got it the fish was either poached or steamed drizzled with a sort of teriyaki sauce. It was Tasteless, too bad, if it was pan fried as the menu stated it would have tasted 10 times better. Scallops were also ordered and they ok. On to dessert. We had the Coconut and Expresso Chocolate ice cream. It was nice and creamy. But any flavor was very mild. Over all this restaurant was ok. Wait we ordered - a bottle of Littorrai wine and Dasai 23. Hopefully next time we're in town the food will be above par.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Great service and food! I had the Pink Lotus cocktail which was a perfect blend of sweet and citrus. It was so refreshing and not overly sweet. To start we had the tuna tartare which was exceptional, and we really enjoyed the taro chips that paired with it. We also had the pork belly appetizer and it is just such a good dish. Perfect comfort food. For a main, I had the Sablefish. I've never tried sablefish before but man am I glad I did! It is such a nice fish... light and buttery. It kind of reminds me of sea bass. So the sablefish comes with rice, vermicelli noodles, a bit of veg, and a soy tamarind sauce... which was perfectly paired to complement the fish. I tried some of my husbands Korean marinated ribeye as well and it was perfectly cooked. Nice and pink in the middle and so flavorful

Yelp
I can't believe I've lived in Ann Arbor nearly my entire life and have just now been to Pacific Rim. Don't sleep on their cocktail list. The Poblano Gimlet and spicy marg (with passion fruit) were some of the most unique cocktails I've had. I also really enjoyed the freshness of the Shochu & Tonic. The tuna tartare starter was delicious and I need to figure out where I can get taro chips. They're so light and crispy, and vaguely sweet. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the yellow curry had wonderful depth of flavor. I've never had scallops with Thai flavors before but it's definitely a winner. I would order that dish again in a heartbeat. The risotto served with the duck was excellent as was the sauce served with it and the greens. Again l, cooked perfectly as ordered. I would also return just to eat a gallon of the green tea creme brulee. That and the Thai lime were super flavorful -- the ginger one less so, but no complaints. They recommend the chocolate cake here, but I can't imagine it being any more enjoyable than the creme brulee flight, but to each their own. Pacific Rim is now at the top of my Ann Arbor restaurant list. Every dish and drink we had was incredible and the service was on point, too. It's a new favorite for a somewhat fancy night out!

Yelp
WOW! We visited Pacific Rim because they had a great three-course restaurant week deal and were blown away by how amazing each course was. Apps: I would come back to Pacific Rim just for the spring rolls and pork belly appetizers. Both were so flavorful and light - perfect for sharing. Soup & Salad: Both really good! Nothing super special here, but appreciate it being part of the tasting menu. Ordering on my own, I would probably skip these two. Korean Marinated Ribeye: This was my boyfriends dish and he said it was some of the best ribeye he has ever had. It was BiBimBop-esque because there was crispy rice on the bottom. Everything about it was perfect - definitely recommend getting this dish!! Lamb Shank: Really well seasoned and flavorful. Potentially a heavier meal than some of the other options so be hungry : We also couldn't resist trying the house made ice cream and sorbet. We got the banana pecan and orange yuzu. I love banana ice cream and this was really good but I'd probably pass on it in the future due to the price. It was $5 for a small scoop - you can run over the blank slate for similar quality and get more for that price. The orange yuzu was really unique and I would recommend trying if you're in the mood for a tangy dessert.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Curry soup was perfect with a small kick of spice. I had paid Thai and a taste of miso salmon. The fish was not great a little over cooked but the side of pad Thai made up for it. Drinks are delicious.

Sabine C.

Yelp
We love Pacific Rim! My family tried this spot out for the first time, and we will definitely be returning. The food, service, and ambiance were incredible. I would definitely recommend the Wasabi-Peppercorn Tenderloin as it was cooked perfectly and was a really good quality cut. If you're in the area, this is a must try restaurant!

Chris B.

Yelp
Expected more from a place Trip Advisor calls one of the best in Ann Arbor. Service was excellent. Food was good, but not great. Crab cakes were excellent, pork belly was dry and a bit chewy. Both with good flavor. Scallops for entree were borderline burned on one side, but ok creaminess. Salmon was requested med rare, came medium, but quite tasty. Rice under both was a bit weird, broken and grainy under scallops, but decent med grain under salmon. Bar makes a great boulevardier. I left satisfied, but underwhelmed.

Rob L.

Yelp
This is the best dining in Ann Arbor, especially if you like seafood. I have been here more than a dozen times and enjoyed every time. The atmosphere is modern, upscale, asian meets midwestern. Most diners are smart casual, and there are some fancy dressers too. The bartenders are also friendly, and the cocktails are original and tasty. The service has always been professional, welcoming, and accommodating of special restrictions. The restaurant does frequently close the kitchen early, so do call if you are a later diner.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. This spot was delicious. I can't wait to be back. The lettuce wraps were delicious, tuna appetizer was so fresh and I love the chips they served it with and I wound up being such a fan that I got the seared tuna entree and the wasabi and other sauces were out of this world especially paired with the crispy rice. We sat at the bar because we didn't make a reservation but it was still a treat. The bartender gave us plenty of care and attention as if we were at a table. Perfect date night or intimate celebration spot!

Mary N.

Yelp
WOW. The older male host with glasses and grey hair here needs to be FIRED! He has NO sense of customer service. He has been mentioned in many past reviews for being rude, arrogant, snooty, etc before. We have eaten here and food is decent. Though this time we decided to try Peridot. The doors happen to be close to each other so I got a little confused and went into Pacific Rim. He bit my head off, rudely pointed that I was in ALL of Pacific Rim and IF I wanted Peridot I needed to GO. Down. TO. The. RIGHT. Of. ThEIR. Door. I came back to tell him how rude he was he threw a tantrum and started screaming at me to leave the restaurant and he will call the police. At one point raised his hands like he was going to strike all 5ft of me. He is an older man about 6ft? This is an old grown man's way of handling a complaint. Felt like I was dealing with a toddler who only knows how to get his way by kicking and screaming. Shocking! I told him to go ahead since he got within inches of me trying to use his size to scare me. I nearly wished he had struck me so I could send him to jail. We. WILL. Never. Eat. here as long as this host is here to check people into their tables. And Peridot and Pacific Rim have the same chefs and owners ???? This host lack of manners does not equate to high end service dining. He does not know how to manage a complaint with pose and grace. His approach is not even appropriate for a fast food eating environment. I'm appalled he made a scene while patrons pay to eat here. Shocking he has a job. I heard it's been really hard to find good help especially in the restaurant business. I guess that's true. It looks like he has many bad one star reviews in the past already for being rude and snooty. Let me add he acts like someone with ADHD and has a really hard time dealing with people politely. If that's the case, maybe not his fault that he's rude and snooty since he can't help himself. Let's show some compassion for someone who is trying really hard with this personality.

Yelp
I can't think of a better place to write about for my first review of 2023!! We were looking for dinner for our anniversary and wanted to try something different. I waited a bit too long to secure a reservation as we were going on a Saturday night. And unfortunately they were fully booked and the only place they were taking walk-ins was at the bar. Luckily we got there when they opened and got a seat. The chairs were not super close and it was not a typical bar atmosphere so we had some semblance of privacy. Everything we tried was delicious! The spring rolls were perfectly crispy without being greasy. The sable fish was tender and mild and delicious! My husband loved his steak and was pleased with the way it was cooked. We got a dessert on the house for our anniversary, nice touch! The warm chocolate cake was delicious and the cherries served with it were the best part of the cake. I can't wait to return, and the service was so good at the bar that I just might not make reservations in hopes of sitting there again!!

Yelp
Solid Ann Arbor restaurant. Asian fusion is the best way to describe. They focus on seafood but have other items. I love their ginger tea. Everyone loves their sable fish. It is very yummy. Zucchini pancakes are something g we always order and I love the eel appetizer. Get a reservation because the fill up

Yelp
What a great experience! I yelped to find a great restaurant for my mom's birthday and found Pacific Rim. I was not disappointed! To be on the safe side, we made reservations a few days in advance. I didn't tell anyone it was my mom's birthday, but our waiter Andrew was attuned to our table and over heard us. So impressed!! We started our evening with around of Mai tais and Thai style calamari. The Mai tais were off the chain! So yummy! Quality ingredients including giant chunks of mint, which the whole table loved! For dinner we ordered the pan fried walleyed, the seared big eyed tuna, and the wasabi peppercorn tenderloin. Soooo impressed with everything. Dinner comes with a salad too. Definitely a surprise and plus. Since our waiter new we were celebrating a birthday, he surprised my mom with the chocolate lava cake with coconut ice cream and a candle. Such a sweet surprise and the cake was amazing!!! My mom was so happy, which made me even happier. My entire family had such an amazing dinner. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Place: This place is on main street. This place is definitely bring your parents for college students or on a special occasion. The place has some asian fusion interior design. Very sleek and modern. Service: The service was amazing. Enjoyed the servers and everyone that greeted us in. Food/price: The food was amazing! I would give the quality of the food 10/10. Like omg so good. I got the korean-marinated rib eye; this place is more a seafood place but I kinda was feeling meat haha. It was really good and the portions were so big. My friend got the thai peanut noodles and other friend got seared big eye salmon. We all tried each other's dishes and OMG the salmon was the best. The next time I come here I am getting that for sure. Audience: Great for couples and friends. I went for my friend's birthday. Recommend/tips? I would recommend this place 100%. There is not a strict dress code but you can definitely dress it up to match the vibes :)

Yelp
We went here for dinner on a summer Sunday evening when their expanded outdoor seating was available. The service was nice though very leisurely for our table. We started with three appetizers: Saigon Spring rolls, Crab cakes, and tuna tartare with taro chips. All three of the appetizers were very delicious, but the tuna tartare and the crab cakes were outstanding. For our main course, we had the Branzino which was excellent.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Came here for dinner with colleagues and had a fabulous dinner where we shared everything and tasted it all. Bursts of flavor--and the chef gave us desserts that were really fun too! Don't usually expect fun creative Asian fusion in the middle of the country, but found it here1

Yelp
We went to Pacific Rim for a birthday dinner and it was outstanding, the cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desert were all outstanding. They were out of some of our first choices but had excellent suggestions and the substitutes items were all great too. Service was perfect and the ambiance was lovely. It was busy but not loud or rushed m.

Yelp
We came here for my friends birthday because she loves seafood and we weren't disappointed! I wanted to order everything on the menu. We have a group of 6 and we all got an appetizer for ourself to start our meal and they were all so good and fresh. For my meal I got the scallops. Appetizers were around $10, entrees were $23-35. We didn't get dessert because we had birthday treats to eat. Overall 10/10

Yelp
Food was really delicious and they are doing outdoor seating with reservations right now. All the meals come with a starter salad which was pretty good. The only problem was that the risotto was undercooked in the duck dish, it was hard on the inside. Scallops are amazing though I would definitely try that.

Yelp
We always enjoy a visit to Pacific Rim! I've never had a disappointing dish and have enjoyed them all. The service is friendly, excellent and the servers know their menu quite well. The space is very cozy and lends itself to an intimate dinner for a couple or small party.

Yelp
Out of the 100+ restaurants in the Ann Arbor- area, this is my #1 favorite, and I mean that. Every single appetizer, entree, drink... is made so well, and done so perfectly. There are so many flavors with each individual thing, you can never go wrong with your order. Must haves: -Korean Marinated Rib Eye (entree) -Spring Rolls -Calamari Bring a little extra money so you can order more food when you're there, and really experience it all. Outdoor tent- seating in 10 degree temperature was great! They won Best Outdoor Dining 2021 for a reason. Please go here and eat a lot. It's so worth it.

Yelp
Meh I guess a 3.5. This was talked up to me so I was excited to try. It was not nad per se but nothing felt very authentic and everything tasted really sweet. I had thai soup as app, sweet and without the usual tang. The salad dressing was sweet. My husband got the sablefish and I got the tuna. The glaze on his fish and my sauce were both sweet. His side was rice noodles. And .. wait for it .. sweet. My rice cakes and the tuna itself were pretty much the only things that were not. The tuna itself was decent. We didn't get dessert bc well ... see above. The cocktails were decent. Service a little slow for a not super busy night.

Yelp
In an intimate and quiet setting, Pacific Rim offers deliciously creative takes on Asian fusion! Each bite delivers a cascade of complex & layered flavors. While the food is on the pricey side for Ann Arbor, it is well worth it. The service is attentive and prompt.

Yelp
Food was only ok. App/salad portions are small but entrees were on larger side. Expected food to be better from the reviews. Cost with two apps, two entrees with salad and two drinks (no dessert) came to about $100

Yelp
Ate here last evening. Ordered the five spice duck entree cooked medium. It arrived not medium, not even rare,, but raw in the middle of each slice. I was with a group so I thought I'd just be quiet and eat the sides, but bit into my risotto and it was cold. When waitress checked on us I said sorry this is really undercooked, and sent the dish back. As she was walking away she said "I'll take it to the kitchen and have them heat it up." I thought wait, what does that even mean? It meant 20 minutes later as the rest of my table was finishing dinner my exact plate of food was set back in front of me. Still incorrectly cooked, but now it looked congealed and three days old, and I could cut the risotto into slices with my knife - gross. It was too late to send it back again without inconveniencing my group, so I ended up going without dinner. Lousy, expensive diet plan, I don't suggest it or this restaurant to others.

Yelp
Service and food are very good. We ordered the tuna tartare which tasted good with tarp chips and our entrees were the 5-Spice Duck and Sablefish. The food was served hot and presented attractively. Our water glasses were kept full, used cutlery replaced and atmosphere was relaxed. Place would rate higher except there's only a single Unisex bathroom, which seems inadequate.

Yelp
This place is slept on. Pacific Rim is very intimate and comfortable, delivering creative Asian fusion dishes with complex flavors. The drink menu is unique as well, I highly recommend the spicy Margherita and the poblano Gimlet (which I think was recently removed). You can't really go wrong with the entrees, but I always go for the tuna -- it is beautiful and very flavorful. The service is very attentive, with tableware swapped out in between dishes and water refilled promptly. Given the quality of the food and service, it is worth a visit.
