Where to Eat and Drink on the Oregon Coast

"With a commitment to sustainable fishing — a particular challenge on the southern Oregon Coast, where sourcing can be difficult — Pacific Sushi owner Mike Horgan has managed to stay the course beautifully. Colorfully plated sushi — both traditional rolls and locally inspired combos featuring spicy salmon, real crab, and spicy tempura sweet potato — hit tables in a rustic, wood-paneled space. Look for sustainably sourced uni and sablefish as an unagi substitute. Outside the world of sushi, the house tonkotsu ramen is particularly special, as is the adjacent cocktail lounge with Japanese-inspired libations. Open for dine-in, takeout, and delivery through a local service." - Jennifer Burns Bright

Drove to the coast for my birthday. Amazing food. Husband bought the chefs a round of drinks because they "made the beat sushi roll he'd ever had" for weekly sushi eaters that says a lot. New birthday tradition right here.

Don’t walk, run to this place to eat. Knowing where to start is hard, but I’ll try. They have gluten free tempura!!! And will make pretty much anything you want gluten free!!! The servers are wonderful, accommodating, the fish is fresh oh so very fresh! I’m tempted to stay in town just to eat here another day!!!

We had Pacific Sushi cater a birthday party for my Wife and it was AMAZING! Chris was super helpful in getting the quantity of food correct for our 15 guests. The food was awesome!!! Seriously the highlight of the birthday week. Thank you!!!!

Such a fun experience! I would consider this more fusion than a traditional Japanese sushi house but the flavors were good, prices reasonable, super cute staff, clean, felt safe dining here even during a pandemic. Will definitely come again.

SerpAPI
Incredible meal! Amazing service!! Delicious gluten free options (ponzu sauce, tamari, tempura)!!! I can't wait to come back for another meal ASAP!!!!!!

Overall, a fantastic meal. The kara-age calamari was delicious and something I wish I thought of myself. Ankimo was tasty when we had it albiet a bit underseasoned. Tonkotsu ramen was very well excecuted though our noodles came out a slightly more overdone side. Drinks were a bit on the weaker side but overall, it was a fantastic dinner. Staff is super friendly, service is timely, and I will definitely be back!

Highly recommend eating there if you like high quality Japanese food. The sushi was some of the freshest I have ate in years.

My husband and I are here in my week birthday road trip getaway. We stayed in Crescent City. I have been Google searching a seafood restaurant top 3 pop-up. Actually, Pacific sushi grill pop-up on the 3rd list so I looked at the first 2 and did not catch my attention and cravings. So, we decided on trying Pacific Sushi Grill. We, loved the good service of the staff, miso soup is very flavorful, my order is chasue pork ramen, rainbow sushi and for To Go grilled beef short ribs. Husband ordered gyoza for starter and Rib eye steak for full meal. All in all, we were satisfied with the taste the service and the amount of food. I am not a big eater so I was not able to finished my ramen.😊 Too bad, we going back to Portland so cannot comeback here but maybe in the future we will visit here again. 😊 No picture of short ribs and rainbow sushi.

Yelp
The bartenders are amazing! Brooke makes incredible drinks and the rest of the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The food is great. Definitely recommend trying the wasabi cheesecake!

Yelp
I had the chashu ramen and I quite enjoyed it. I've never had restaurant ramen before so I don't have anything to compare it to but it was very tasty and the pork, mushrooms, asparagus, egg and broth were all very good. I had some spice on the side and a little went a long way but I enjoyed that also. We ordered some tempura vegetables and they were nice and crispy just as they should be. A bonus was the black velvet painting of Jesus and Elvis, looking like they'd just seen someone they didn't really want to see.

Yelp
This place is a gem hidden in a small town for sushi lovers. I am a vegetarian so ended up not having many choices. Couldn't find any veg sushi so asked for udon stir fry without sauce as the udon sauce had fish sauce. Others loved their bento option. The place was quiet and pleasant. The service was very good.

Yelp
Must stop if you're in brookings, Oregon. I have stopped here on two occasions and every time it's fantastic! I have been during December and haven't had to call for a reservation. We are seated quickly and the staff is always friendly. We started with Gyoza and some drinks. I then ordered some rolls. They were all very good. I did get the salmon and avocado roll, which was fresh and tasty. The service was great, attentive, and friendly. They made my bday special. The indoor seating is ample and there is street parking. The restrooms were clean, and they have a sushi bar as well if you want something quick. They have a bar on the other side. This is my fav sushi spot in brookings.

Yelp
We stopped by pacific sushi on the way down the coast to California. They had a lot of different options and I liked their lunch specials. We each got a lunch special and then a couple extra rolls. You have a choice of soup or salad with your lunch and I enjoyed that it was different than your standard carrot ginger dressing. The hand roll was tasty but a little difficult to eat as the seaweed was tough to rip. My sister enjoys coming here often, so it was nice to give it a try while we were visiting.

Yelp
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. We discovered this gem while staying in Brookings for the week. Kelly was our server who went above & beyond to repeat the specials, bring us more dynamite sauce, deliver more ketchup for our kid's wagyu burger & recommend a delicious dessert )strawberry rhubarb cobbler). The sunshine & baked Alaskan rolls were phenomenal. Can't wait to dine at this place again

Yelp
Brookings is lucky to have a sushi place this good. And it's not just the sushi--their entire menu is delicious. And who knew the sushi place would have the best burger in town?
google avatar

Techsan G.

Yelp
Fantastic, fresh sushi with a great variety. The atmosphere was trendy and comfortable too.

Roger K.

Yelp
Sushi at its finest. We ordered from the happy hour menu. The food was delicious. The waitress was friendly. We will be back whenever we pass through town.

Carol M.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is lovely. My husband doesn't eat sushi but enjoyed the burger he had. The sushi I got was absolutely delicious! The portion size was good. The service was great. They did let my husband sample some of the sauces as he's such a picky eater!! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Important: Non-sushi review, so not applicable if you're after sushi! The restaurant was packed when we arrived at 7 on a Monday, but there was one table left. The noise level was very high, and there was also background music, making for a very unrelaxed experience. Service was great. Despite it being so crowded, our order was taken quickly, and we got our food in less than 15 minutes after ordering. I had Ramen with organic tofu, spicy, and my husband had Stir Fry Udon, also with organic tofu. We forgot to ask about the tofu, as we prefer it soft, but it was fried tofu (don't know if we can ask for soft). The Ramen was good, but the broth did not have flavors we had at "Ramen" restaurants in the past. My husband felt the broccoli in the Stir Fry Udon was a bit over-cooked for his tastes, but the other veggies were good, and the noodles were excellent. It all came in a lot of sauce, which was overly sweet and pretty salty. Overall, I'd like to give 3.5*, but Yelp doesn't allow it.

Yelp
Food is amazing. We both ordered a Bento, one with beef and one with chicken. We selected the spicy tuna and miso soup. The soup was very favorable but cold. Teriyaki had a strong likable flavor. The tuna was strange. It was so spicy we could not tell it was tuna. The fried dumplings were fine. The rice was cooked perfectly. Our lunch was well worth $18.50 per box. Service was not great, but we don't require good service to enjoy a good meal. The booths with wood table tops and vinyl cushions were comfortable.

Yelp
This place is still going strong! Hmmm...wonder why? Oh yeah...because it has only the best sushi on the coast. Duh. Fast service, friendly wait staff and amazing food. We waited about 15 minutes before we were served. It was busy even at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Love this place!!! Never disappoints!

Yelp
Best Sushi on the Southern Oregon Coast. Food is fresh and delicious and they have a spacious and lively bar.

Yelp
Awesome Japanese restaurant in small town. Had the lobster roll, spicy edamame, veggie roll, tempura shrimp and chicken Ramen. They were all wonderful but the Ramen is spectacular. It's as good if not better than what we had in Asia. Service is impeccable.

Haley S.

Yelp
This sushi was perfect. However one of the service gentleman was very loud and discussing inappropriate topics for such a nice restaurant setting. Would absolutely eat here again, but hope that the staff are more courteous to the diners experience next time.

Yelp
The best sushi!! So clean and fresh and so many fun and different options on their menu too. We have tried the California roll, Nature Nugget and Ninja. All so good. They also offer gluten free tempura! I have gotten their Gluten Free Tempura vegetables and was such a treat! Highly recommend if you are in Brookings!

C. S.

Yelp
I had high expectations. Most locals will tell you it's the best sushi restaurant in town (though there's not much competition). I don't eat seafood, so the menu options here are extremely limited. The chicken teriyaki is just fine. There are no veggie rolls that don't have avocado, which tends to dominate texturally. Some simple veggie maki would be so welcome. The vegetable tempura was simply not good--the batter was sweet, like funnel cake batter. Very strange. I'd love to see more vegetable options, and a re-think of the tempura batter. Update: Komi Tea House, 1 block "south," just started serving (mostly Japanese-inspired) rice plates, and they are excellent--the tempura and teriyaki far and away outshine Pacific. I hope that provides some healthy competition :)

Yelp
We had a super special time here last Friday night! Awesomeness to the max! Tempura shrimp and vegetables were divine! Korean short ribs were delicious and with some rice perfection! Place was packed with a wait time but service was spot on. Great atmosphere with a hip crowd made for a special occasion.

Yelp
Great food and best drinks! We came here for sushi and it was stellar. The ramen is delicious

Yelp
Great find on Yelp! Ended staying at the beach longer than normal so we wanted to find a new place for dinner. Their high rating was deserved. The gyoza appetizer was in my top 3 ever as they were fried to perfection, tasty and a good size. We both enjoyed the udon noodles and teriyaki chicken. Again, nice amount of tangy sauce, noodles, fresh veggies and a ton of chicken. Our server was very pleasant and timely even though they had a full house. We definitely will come back.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
The ambience of this restaurant is very cozy and different from a normal sushi restaurant but we enjoyed it. The miso was good, but could've been a little warmer. We got the Akasha tofu for an appetizer, and it was very yummy. We tried the Aloha roll, and the Alaskan roll, both were very good but we enjoyed the Alaskan roll more. We also got an order of the nigiri, the fish was good, but the rice was loose.

Yelp
Great Food and Service, a little pricey, but quality food. We love Japanese food and have Charashi every where we Travel in our RV. This is the best I-have had.

Yelp
We usually love this place . Unfortunately today the NEW manager working the bar was rude. It was 1:00 on a Tuesday and she said that she would move us if another party came in larger than us. It was a bar table on a Tuesday at 1:00 pm. We will not be back. From San Diego and a great tipper. She is super unprofessional and when I called they had no other # to give me just wanted my name and #. We have been going there for years and this was the worst, and she is the manager. Someone needs some training. We had a lunch somewhere else tipped 20^ ...

Yelp
Sustainable sushi AND a full bar, burgers and steaks? We had to check this out! We started off with the Yuzu sour, which was definitely sour! Good job on this one! Food wise, we ordered the chirashi and the chashu ramen. The chirashi was little pricy at $44, but worth it. Very fresh! The ramen hit the spot on a chilly evening. I've never had sliced button mushrooms or asparagus spears in ramen, but I appreciated the fresh veggies that weren't overcooked. Stuffed, we couldn't pass up the wasabi cheesecake since it sounded so interesting, and got it to go. Mild wasabi flavor, but definitely there. It was not too sweet and had a good creamy texture. Tiffany, our server, was great! Thanks for the friendly and efficient service when it was busy! No reservations. Walk ins only.

Yelp
We're from Grants Pass, OR, don't get to come here super often but when we do this is the place to go 1000000%! Hands down the best sushi I've ever had, husband had ramen bowl as well and it's the best he's had. Nothing like it back home or surrounding area, so it's really great to come here. It was a little bit of a wait to get in but it's well worth it. The service is great, everyone is really kind and checks on you, but not too much so. It's very busy, I imagine it is regularly pretty busy but this last time we went was over Fourth of July weekend so obviously it was extra busy so a little loud, but nothing uncomfortable and experience was not ruined. Always excited to come back

Yelp
We took a road trip and on our way back we were craving some sushi. We didn't have a lot of choices but this spot stood out. It was Memorial Day Weekend and around dinner time and the wait wasn't bad. There was a separate area on the side where there were a few slot machines and a bar, you can play and sit while you wait. Service was pretty good, we were seated within the time frame they quoted and the server came promptly to greet us. We started with: Edamame - not much to say nearly every place we go to, it's the same (not a bad thing) Main Rolls: - Lobster Roll - It was okay, we felt like there was very little lobster on it so a bit disappointed - Red Dragon - this was one of our favorite rolls the spicy tuna tasted so fresh! - Monster Volcano - this was good as well Desserts: - Homemade Cobbler (it was a blueberry one at the time and it was just too packed with blueberry) it wasn't horrible but probably wouldn't order that again - Creme Brulee - this was yummy!! All around, we had a good meal and with everything we ordered - some of the items not listed because I forgot to write them down, the bill was lower than we expected. I also wanted to note that, it said on their menu that their sushi are from sustainable sources. :)

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite sushi joint on the Oregon Coast!! The food is top notch! Always fresh and always sustainable! Great bar with amazing staff! I recommend Pacific Sushi as a must have experience!

Yelp
This was recommended to us by our hotel clerk, and it was AMAZING! We were looking up and down the coast for sushi, and every roll we got here tasted fresh and delicious. We got the Spider roll, monster volcano, aloha roll, baked salmon roll and firecracker roll. All really great. The kids menu has udon stir fry noodles and our kids loved them. The server was very attentive and checked on us frequently. The berry cobbler at the end is a must have!!

Yelp
little wolf Local Guide·18 reviews just now NEW My fiance and I,( he was a sushi chef for 7 years) were very surprised with how amazing this place is. We live in southern oregon and travel a lot and love food. The atmosphere was comforting and elegant. The fish quality was AMAZING, like wow. We're still in awe. We will be coming here everytime We're at this part of the coast. 100% must if you love quality sushi, great fish. We sat at the sushi bar. Shout out to our sushi chefs Weston and Matt, they were friendly and kept a conversation with us. We appreciate them!

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Brookings! Recently had a dinner for 30 of my family and friends after our wedding, the sushi rolls were amazing! The appetizers, such as gyoza, edamame, and Korean short ribs, were all great! The burger is also wonderful. Seriously great service and great food!

Yelp
The sushi is delicious and fresh. The service is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I stopped here blindly while driving north on the 101 freeway. The sushi had a lot of spices. But very enjoyable. I like my raw fish prepared minimally because good fish should be like single malt scotch. If you want to make a blended drink, use blended scotch. Still, I enjoyed it. The principal menu item should be the fish. Wife had the chocolate tart, complete failure. Still, the servers were completely sweet. A+ on the whole "family restaurant" vibe. The place was lit very romantically, I feared the cleanliness factor. Most sushi restaurants are styled in sterilized/factory flair. Cold but comforting in the knowledge you're not going to be sick. The place is located in Brookings, a place that is completely foreign to me. I usually stop to eat in Crescent City on my northernly day trips. This joint has changed my future plans and will wait another 30 minutes to eat.
google avatar

Tracy D.

Yelp
Ordered take out to eat on the local beach. EVERYTHING was fresh and delicious. We had the daily special: Titan roll which had a little too much going on in terms of different flavors from all of the ingredients and the pieces were HUGE...too much for one bite. It was still really good though. We also had the spicy roll with white tuna and the rogue roll. Both were devious. We had an order of the shumai. Soooo good! Definitely coming back and strongly recommend to ALL who appreciate good sushi.

Sandy R.

Yelp
Great food, good service, nice variety. Clean and convenient location, adequate parking

Christian S.

Yelp
First off, I love this place. But we went there with friends for my wife's birthday. I had the lobster roll, very good. But first, I had the Japanese oysters Rockefeller. Well, two tasted great, but the last one tasted fishy. Well, I was up all night tossing my cookies. Beware of the oysters! Everything else has always been awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a reliable stop on my drives up the Oregon coast from California. Really high quality fish. Everything is good. Service is top notch. A winner.

Yelp
Lots of amazing sushi choices with good service and ambience. Place is always busy which is a good sign.

Yelp
sushi is great.the burger on the other hand has down hill.not as good as it once was.over cooked and not even a complete patty.bun was stale.waitress was lovely.wish they would let the ramen be a takeout too.
google avatar

Yelp
Mmmmm, sushi, nigiri, sashimi! All my favs! Their fish was fresh and yummy, the service was good and the atmosphere, too. Although, it was a tad dark because we were blinded when we walked out again! Haha Definitely recommend this place! There's public parking nearby if you can't get street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite place in town to eat- some of the freshest nagiri I've had. Nice, low-lit space and cozy booths. Fun cocktails (jalapeño daisy) appetizers (agedashi tofu and korean ribs!) and RAMEN. Ugh good ramen is what I miss most from living in more populated areas of the world, haha. I'm thankful to have a ramen option here!!

Ray O.

Yelp
The sushi here is excellent. I have been here many times and will continue to come here. Two of our favorites are the Sunshine roll and the Maya roll. I like sitting in the lounge. They often have interesting cocktail specials. Tonight, however, they were playing really annoying music. It was sort of a fake jazz electronica. Management - please play something better!
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Is 3 nights in one week too much!?!?! Nope. Every time I come to town....I eat here as much as I can! I may not be local, but when I give my phone number they know my name. This place has an amazthing going, so fresh and delish! Coming from a picky foodie from Los Angeles....says a lot!

K C.

Yelp
This place has the most amazing berry cobbler dessert ever. Nice ambiance too. Sushi is great as well.
google avatar

Callie C.

Yelp
Best, most fresh sushi I have ever had! Amazing service and were so nice that we had a child with us. Friendly and loved the vibe. Great music! Will be back!!!
google avatar

Cindi P.

Yelp
Great fresh sushi, my kids love the chicken teriyaki, and the atmosphere is fun. It is not too loud for conversation like some other places in Brookings.

Nadestha R.

Yelp
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
The choices are slim in Brookings, so you take what Yelp offers, though most of the reviews are questionable. No reservations, just walk-ins, so walk in soon, especially during high season. Uncomfortably cramped host front, so waiting list overflow to the sidewalk or stand right next to annoyed tables. Tavern like vibe ~ dark, dank, but lively. Air a little stifling, could be from all the energetic conversations.l Service is casual friendly, almost too casual, so do not expect sophisticated city service with the city prices. Full bar, local beer & wine, standard teriyaki/sushi menu. Spider Roll $17 Monster Volcano $17 (1) Ikura Nigiri $12 (1) Sake Nigiri $12 For the town, this is the best place to dine in Brookings.

Yelp
Wonderful service and food. Sushi rolls are quite big. 6 rolls were definitely too much for 3 people. The Caliente roll was by far our favorite. Miso soup was also amazing. Cucumber Wasabi martini was super yummy!!
