I almost feel guilty not giving this place 5 stars, but I had to... even though this place is a Fort Worth staple that has been here for years, and even though the service has been more than amiable, phenomenal and personalized the last two times I went, and even though the cocktails transport me to the 1920s like I'm Zelda Fitzgerald, and even though the vibe here is classy and chic with the cutest walled-in patio.... The food could have been better.
I have been a few times for cocktails and for brunch, mostly, and I will continue to go back, as it has always been an overall wonderful experience. When I return for lunch or dinner, I'll post and update, but as for brunch let's start with the smiles!
I typically don't crave anything sweet for breakfast, however, these Lemon Ricotta Pancakes... I want some literally every morning now. These are, potentially, the absolute BEST pancakes I've ever had. Fluffy, yet dense, sweet, but not too much so, lightly lemony and oh so mouth watering with just the memory of them.
Other than the pancakes, everything else was okay. The frittata wasn't overcooked and the potatoes weren't too salty, but these items would not have made it in my food diary if I had one. They needed more umph, and I'm sure the chefs here can do better than that.
As for the chilaquiles... these would have probably been fine however they weren't timed well with the delivery of the rest of our food; they came out very soggy and cold, but the flavor was promising! These require heartier, homemade chips and a last minute assembly.
But as I said, this place is the bees knees, so go give them a shot, if not only for the cocktails. I, myself, and looking forward to my next visit and hope for the best!
