Beach of Confidence
Pacifica State Beach, colloquially known as Linda Mar (Spanish for "Beautiful Beach") by locals, is a 0.75-mile crescent moon-shaped beach that runs between the Pedro Point Headlands and Aramai Point. And, unlike most State Beaches, Linda Mar is actually run by the City of Pacifica and *not* the State of California (this is important to note for later).
I actually used to live less than a mile walking distance from Linda Mar for about five years and would frequent it very regularly, so I have a realistic point of comparison. However, it has been nearly seven years since I've moved away, and I know a lot can change in that amount of time.
The Good:
*Dog-friendly
*Three separate parking lots: the two main ones on either side of the Taco Bell, and there's also parking at the Pacifica Community Center across the street.
*Weather is always nice and cool even when it's hot inland.
*Nice AC paved trail for walking that can take you as far south to Pedro Pt and Devil's Slide, and as far north as Mori Point and the Pacifica Pier.
*Taco Bell located between parking lots "A" & "B" so you don't really need to even remember to bring food.
*Surfing conditions are good for novices and people
*Restrooms & outdoor sand showers (normally) available
The Meh:
*They now charge for parking which used to be free; I actually think this is kind of a good thing because it usually detracts from the nogoodniks but it kinda didn't work, as there was still plenty of scumbags around.
*The main beach area where most beachgoers hang is a total pigsty, with tons of garbage, dead birds, feathers, and firework remnants. I understand people are pigs, but it doesn't seem as though the city has kept up with it for a while now.
The Ugly:
*The restrooms in lot "A" are broken (upgrade?), which is whatever life happens, but the port-o-potties they have in their stead are an abomination. The doody is stacked so high that if you sat down, you'd leave quite an impression--if you follow what I'm saying. There was also no TP in any of the toilets. I mean, if you're gonna charge people money to park, the least the city could do is make sure the restrooms are cleaned and stocked on a daily basis. This was at 9 a.m., mind you. So, it's not like we arrived at sunset.
*Parking situation is quite a pig-fuck, to put it lightly, and the biggest reason is these surf school(s) have completely taken over the beach and the parking spots to boot. At one point, I'd say 60% of beachgoers were surfers, and this parking crisis spreads to the nearby businesses. This is definitely one of those things that changed after I left; I do recall some surfers and surfing schools, but nothing quite to this extent.
TLDR: Nice beach, but maybe only during a weekday or the offseason. Avoid during the summer and especially during heatwaves.
