Paco’s Tacos Review - Windsor Park - Austin - The Infatuation

"Paco’s Tacos on East 51st Street makes perfectly good breakfast and lunch tacos, and perhaps most importantly, they do it quickly. The tacos, on half flour/half corn tortillas, can be on the pricier side, but the dirt cheap margaritas and draft beer more than make up for it. On weekends the Bloody Marys and mimosas clock in under $5, and you can even get pitchers. While there’s minimal indoor seating, there’s an expansive and funky patio, some of which is even covered. Stumble in, order some tacos, hit the salsa bar with feeling (there are five kinds), and take your bounty outside. Just avoid the hungry grackles. photo credit: Raphael Brion" - Raphael Brion

Google
Delicious tacos with good service and plenty of parking. I really enjoyed the hard shell shredded beef tacos. The fish taco was really big, very fresh and delicious as well. I really love the red sauce and will be trying the green sauce next time I come. Prices were fair service was excellent. I'll be back.

Inside Ayres. Always a tasty taco and a delicious quesadilla. A lot of meat and a lot of cheese. Really nice people and great service.

We came here from LA on the way to Palm Springs because they had 5 stars. We got 4 chicken tacos. Man these were so dry we could not even eat them. We threw all the food away. It was really terrible.

Google
Paco’s is the best. Great food and great service. I’ve been going here for over 25 years. I recommend the 3 and 1 pork burrito with the extra hot green sauce. Yum

Google
The guy at counter is always very friendly and efficient , the food is great, it's more of a takeout place because of the area that's in but it's worth stopping for and the service is great. Stopped in today again same guy at the counter He's always friendly Food was great

Google

Google
Literally just watched this girl MICROWAVE my tortillas.. and even worse she microwaved them IN STYROFOAM... that's not ok!! Tastes plain and for $2 you can get way better tacos..

Yelp
I use to love this place not to sure what happened the last time I went was awhile ago so not sure if they changed and got better or worse I use to get a fat bean and cheese burritos when I was a kid some times chorizo beans and cheese but as I got older I stopped going cause the burritos got smaller and the salsa wasn't getting more watery I like the red and that's the one that lost its flavor which sucked cause they had a great red salsa when I was 12 I'm 29 now but I hope when I go again there better then what I remember with my last experience cause this was my favorite spot as a kid but the owners are really cool and funny a little greedy with the salsa but they always give the amount

Yelp
Well. For the upteenth time I showed up to get food. And they are closed. On a holiday MLKJR. It's ridiculous how many times this has happened when I knew they were closed on sundays. It's not Christmas or new years. This has happened to many times now. I will never be coming for food here again. I'll find a good Mexican place that actually wants my business.

Yelp
Came in for dinner. Front counter and person was nice. Food could have used more flavor and would have been great if we got all of our order. I guess it was my fault for not checking so oh well. Food was nothing to write home about. Combo burrito had more beans than anything and the way they packaged stuff made a mess of the enchilada. Very disappointing.

Yelp
My husband and I recently had lunch at Paco's Tacos. We had beef tacos with rice and beans. The meal was really good, and I'd like to go back to try several different items. The owner was super friendly. We sat outside, and he brought us pillows to sit on. Very nice! Looking forward to going back soon!

Yelp
Tried out this local spot after craving a burrito. The garbage burrito is really large and cost roughly $11. The taste is standard but I couldn't note anything in particular that stood out to me. The service was nice and friendly! The space itself has a few areas for dining in but looks most suitable for take out. The food itself was okay.

Ron B.

Yelp
Food is very good, prices are reasonable and they are conveniently located. Definitely worth a visit for a great meal.

Yelp
I used to come here all the time when I was a kid growing up in San Bernardino. Was back in town and had some time to kill so stopped by, was stoked to see they're still around. Ordered my go-to, 2 shredded chicken taco meal with all rice. It was exactly as I remembered (delicious!). Their green sauce is still as awesome as I remember as well!

Yelp
I love Pacos Tacos! The two guys in the front are both friendly. One is very jolly and happy and singing most of the time; the other is more serious but still very kind. Both of them are awesome guys! I've had small conversations with them almost every time I go. I still have never gotten their name. But they make my visit so much more comfortable. The ambiance is that of an older restaurant/shop. Few booths to sit at in a small, used building. To me? That's the sign to a good restaurant. There's pictures of random celebrities on the walls and little Nic Nacs here and there. And you know their food is good because they have construction guys in there all the time, nurses, office folk, and other restaurants' employees in there buying food, too. The food is fantastic as well. If you want consistency, this place hands down delivers the exact same food, every time, and it's GREAT food. You know what you're getting and you can enjoy your meal. I've had countless menu items but my absolute favorite (picture included) is the #3 with shredded beef and meat sauce. They make the best shredded beef I've ever eaten at a restaurant. I've taken all of my friends here, as well as my mom. I have never had a single person tell me the food was not good. Everyone always loves it. It's comfort food. When your food provides comfort, you're doing it right. I've been coming here with my boyfriend since we started dating years ago so maybe that's a bias, but this place has been a staple in our diet since then. Their hours sometimes fluctuate, but they're a small business and finding labor is hard; however, they are worth going at whatever hours they're open because the food is great. They've got a customer for life with me. I hope they thrive for years to come. If you read this review and don't try their food, then congrats -- you've wasted time reading this. GO TRY THE FOOD.

Yelp
Literally my go-to spot for delicious local Mexican food! Everything on the menu is tasty & they have the BEST hot sauce! Ask for the xxx hot.

Marissa M.

Yelp
This is our go to spot if you want a good burrito. They have fries for our little one and the green hot sauce is our fav!!!!

Yelp
Pretty reliable. I always enjoy the food. The burger was average, FYI. I'm posting the menu since the pics were outdated. Here's a pic of the menu from April, 2023; Updated review 05/2023 All entrees were delicious and well prepared. Fair prices. Still going strong

Yelp
This place was very friendly, great family like environment the guy at the front I don't know who he was but he had a great little sense of humor too which made everybody comfortable. The food was nice and hot great large quantity. I would give it a five star but the only thing was they had to remake my chimichanga burrito because the first round had a long piece of hair in it, and I have short hair so we know it was not mines. Most likely it was the female cook back there, but other than that it was a great place to go eat a great place to spin your buck. The burrito was filled with meat and it was so juicy with a nice crisp.

Yelp
Delicious!! Hard shell shredded beef taco plus beans & rice!! Service was on spot! The prices are reasonable and they serve coca-cola if you are a coke fan.

Yelp
Oh man I haven't eaten at Paco's since I was in high school. They use to be in a different location. I thought they were closed but now I have discovered they are now located close to me. Food is so very good. Love it. They are still the best.

Ray B.

Yelp
Won't disappoint, everything is good, I actually don't know how they can make so many dishes so we'll. If you love old school Mexican food it is authentic old school. A long time local Gem.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and I believe I have tried every menu item at least once. I'm not a big fan of the ground beef but aside from that everything else is excellent. Pork tacos are my favorite. Thick cuts of pork often with the fat still on it. That fat is flavor. Just about everywhere else trims it off. Leave it on. That's why I like Paco's pork the best.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
I wasn't impressed at all !!! My son in law and his best friend have been eating here since it opened in 1991. They claimed they had the best salsa, not impressed, and the best tacos, not impressed. I'd rather go to Del Taco or Taco Bell !!!
google avatar

Ricardo S.

Yelp
charged me a different price for my food than what i was told unless they have a 3$ fee to pay with debit..called them but nobody picked up
google avatar

Marlene R.

Yelp
Great chicharon burrito! Hot but delicious . Priced good on menu items . I never tried anything else to be honest but this burrito kicks but for sure

Anthony P.

Yelp
Pacos has really good food they never disappoint!!! I definitely recommend this place.....
google avatar

Kimme A.

Yelp
I definitely love original one better but this one will do !! Rice is good , and so is all the food. Wish the taquitos were like the old days.
google avatar

Liz T.

Yelp
the food is very very very good & the workers are so nice. it's also a good deal for the price !

Yelp
Carne Asada tacos are delicious. I ordered mine with extra onion and cilantro. The meat is always tender and moist.
google avatar

Dante C.

Yelp
With all respect to Rosa Maria's on Sierra, I think this place has better garbage burritos. You can customize the meat (I prefer the shredded beef), and you can choose a delicious green or red salsa that doesn't run out the bottom of your burrito. Paco's is family owned. You can find the owner still occasionally running the front counter and working hard at either location, this one or the one on Highland Avenue near the Home Depot. The food is the same at either location: awesome. Update: The Highland Avenue location has closed.

Marco Z.

Yelp
Very good food been coming here since I was young highly recommend food hasn't changed
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
Yummy food!!! The beans are amazing!!!! Always familiar faces and good service! Small location so we usually take it to go. Get plenty of salsa, that stuff is sooo good too!!!

Yelp
First impression before going to the establishment I was a little hesitant because there's a lot of negative reviews and most mention bad attitudes. Unfortunately we dealt with that tonight. I've def. dealt with worse ones but as a customer it's not my fault your disgruntled about what not. We placed our order at 5:29 and ordered two drinks and was given one and he forgot to give me the other cup, so I waited til he was off the phone and asked for the other one. He seemed really bothered to reach around and hand me a cup. I said thank you, and got an irritated "yeah" The place was definitely busy, which showed a good sign to me that the place must be good. But it was so silent in there and awkward of everyone not eating but waiting on their orders. The only one eating was a staff member who was eating in the back. Finally got our food at 6:01 and everything was in the bag. I'd give it a one star from me because: Attitude from I'm assuming owner/mgr. The 30 mins that I along with long wait times every one else had to wait for. My 4 tacos 2 carne/2 chicken were tasteless & dry, All our food except our fries were sitting on their bagging counter for awhile before we got the fries. & the cherry on top, I gave my fiancé the 2nd half of my chicken taco and he found a course long hair in it. Gross. They have a B rating, accidents happen, but that's enough to never have me back. Here's the inspection report. http://www.sbcounty.gov/dehs/reports/DAFB7NGDD.pdf

Yelp
It's ok , service is slow and I didn't like there sauces so I can only give it a 3 star , but my roommates like it
google avatar

Nora T.

Yelp
I always come here for their asada garbage burrito. The workers are courteous. Very small place, not for big groups. I only carry out.

Lilly E.

Yelp
Love the food and the people that work there, shredded beef wet burrito is my favorite
google avatar

Wyrm G.

Yelp
Best place around, I want to explore the menu but I can't escape the number 7. Honestly can't believe people are giving Paco's bad reviews... the food is amazing and the dudes who run it kick ass. Love this place.

Romeo F.

Yelp
Great food everytime I come and good customer service. I order a an asada burrito each time and grab r/g sauce when asked that's my go to order and I'm willing to try out the rest

Carlos G.

Yelp
They have the best bean and cheese and beans, rice and cheese burritos that I've ever had and their green salsa is a masterpiece. I could drink the stuff straight. That's all I need to say about Pacos Tacos
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly one of the best if not the best place to go with your family for some Mexican food. The owners are so nice and all the staff always does their best to get you the best tasting food you can get. I've been going for a few years now with my mom and it's extremely nice for a meal with the family

Amy B.

Yelp
The food is delicious and at a good price. The services is good and quick. When you eat there you get to choose individual salsas or they will give you the small bottles. We enjoyed our food and when we were leaving the guy offered us more individual salsas to take with our leftovers. Both salsas are made there and are delicious not too spicy. The chicken in the burrito was good quality and a lot throughout.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday and got my regular. Finally remembered to take a few photos this time.

Yelp
It's because I have to give him one seriously they deserve a - 10 my mom ordered a shredded beef and bean burrito no beans at all and soup was coming out it was really really really wet the shredded beef teacher like more like onions than anything dad ordered a pork burrito and it taste like BBQ hamburger it was really really greasy I ordered the hard tacos pure Grease the beans taste like they came out of a can Rice have brown stuff on it no flavor no nothing no tomatoes has no nothing it was nasty I rather go to mom says Jack in the Box tacos are more like tacos and then Paco's Paco's Tacos and me that I'm pick are they going to Alberto's that's on Highland I highly recommend this place for nothing
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
The only place I go to for Mexican food. I mean, I've tried a few other local places. They aren't bad. Definitely the best shredded beef here. Shredded beef, rice, cheese, and pico... My favorite the Chile rellenos are so good, too. Their tacos are packed! The portions are always generous, and too often, my eyes are bigger than my stomach. That's alright though, the burrito is still almost as good reheated. I've been going here for nearly 20 years and I've never had a complaint about the food. It's a must-have if you love Mexican food.
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Food is amazing and worth the wait. I don't know why I've never tried this place but glad I did today. I ordered the number 17 (Chile relleno plate.) The food was very flavorful especially the rice. The prices are reasonable. Will definitely be in more often!
google avatar

Sophia S.

Yelp
Excellent burritos and great service. The chicharonne burritos are fire. Great place to eat.

Yelp
Got sent to pick up food and because the card wasn't mine i couldn't pay ‍ their loss i guess i won't be returning

Micheal R.

Yelp
Great food! Been going here for years. Prices have gone up, but still reasonable. Great for takeout, small dine in area.
google avatar

Anthony R.

Yelp
I've lived in the area for about 3 years and can't believe I'm barely finding out about this place! Great food, great prices, quick service, and only 2 minutes away from me! So glad I found this spot and that my whole family loves it!
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
My new favorite spot for Mexican food. As the name suggests, get the tacos, they're fantastic. The meats are all well-prepared and the sauces are excellent. The burritos are a step down from places like Rosa Marias, but everything is flavorful. My family will be coming back again and again.

Devore L.

Yelp
wow the crispy tacos plate was great ! Really like the large fries they serve there too

Briosa C.

Yelp
MY SON & ME LOVE LOVE LOVE PACOS' TACOS! If you like ground beef tacos this is the place to get them! They are TO DIE FOR!!! Absolutely the best! My son LOVES the Carne Asada Fries! You can dine-in or get take-out. The people who work there are SUPER NICE and there is always great customers there that are super friendly and great to talk with while waiting for your order. I give Pacos Tacos a million stars!! Prices are great as well!! Can't go wrong with this place!

Colleen L.

Yelp
