Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu (Dinsor Road)

"The tempting scent of sizzling pork greets you at this vibrant restaurant by chef Andy Yang. Their signature dish features nicely char-grilled pork loin slices atop savoury Pad Thai. Another recommendation is the Pad Thai with fresh prawns, stir-fried in their shell for sweet, delicious meat. For top-notch Pad Thai and skilled wok-based cooking at a fair price, this is your spot." - Michelin Inspector

At the front is a food cart where you can see the flames shooting up around the pan as thephad thaiis being prepared, hence its name (fai ta lutranslates loosely to “piercing flame”). Absolutely the best dish I had during my entire Thailand stay. I still think of this Pad Thai to this day. There was just so much flavor and the spices mixed beautifully with the dish. It was like every bite was a perfect harmony. I recommend this place to everyone in Bangkok, as I feel like this just tops all other dishes I had during my Thailand stay of 2 weeks. For the price you also couldn't complain, it was definitely worth the price and next time in Thailand I'm ordering three plates, minimum.

I will start off by saying, I understand why this got consecutive years of Michelin Stars. The pad Thai dishes served here are out of this world tasty and unique toppings. It’s definitely a twist from the classic Pad Thai dishes. That said the price reflects this as well, though I would say that the environment of the restaurant doesn’t really reflect the high end prices you pay. It feels like a regular run down building you go up to for dinner after a days work. Regardless it is a great experience checking out Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu, we went twice just to try other dishes.

If you want to try a more upscale version of Pad Thai, this place is worth a visit. In my opinion, the tastiest one is the version with pork belly—highly recommended! The other dishes are also good, but make sure to try their signature menu. That being said… it’s honestly very expensive 🤣 like really expensive. Oh, and my mom uses a wheelchair, and she was still able to enter. We just had to lift the wheelchair a little to get inside.

🍽 Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu – Michelin Bib Gourmand Renowned as the Master of Pad Thai and proudly holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 5 consecutive years, this spot lives up to the hype. It was our first time trying Pad Thai served with grilled pork loin on the side and boy, it was the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. The noodles were perfectly cooked with a beautiful balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. The grilled pork? Melt-in-your-mouth tender, smoky, and juicy though I wish the serving was a bit bigger because it was that good! A must-visit for any Pad Thai lover in Bangkok.

I agree if the flavour is beyond expectation! I can taste the sweetness and the local flavor I can’t describe. But for that price, I think the owner needs to upsize the portion. It feels like just an appetizer rather than a meal course. Overall, I really enjoyed it for my lunch! Well deserved for Michelin stars six years in a row!

[NOTE: If you choose to use Grab car to get to PTFTL @ Dinso, do not choose "Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu, Dinso Road..." as the dropoff point. It is the wrong place. It took me 10mins++ to walk to the correct location, having to cross the big highway past the monument roundabout, to finally arrive at the opposite side of it. Rather, you should choose "Fai Ta Lu Dinso" or the one immediately below, in Thai.] For 30 years++, I have never been a Pad Thai fan, avoiding it because the dish is so sickeningly sweet. After watching Mark Wiens and Gary Butler "brag" about Pad Thai on YouTube---or at least where to get the traditional, non-touristy ones, I thought I'd give it another shot. Well, I am proven wrong this time at PTFTL @ Dinso, and long time coming too... 😬 It was 2.40pm, I didn't have to wait. Pity this old and stocky sod, the seats were unfortunately one floor up. 😂 Given that the River Prawns, Crispy Pork Belly and the "Special" were all sold out 😭... I am left with and ordered the one with standard prawns, and another with pork jowl. (Yes---I read the reviews.) When the Pad Thai arrived, despite looking eh-oh gorgeous and delicious looking, the portions were indeed small... 😂 Two large bites and it's over... The noodles in both were all dente, full of Umami and tasted the same. So, it meant that the only difference between the 2 plates of Pad Thai was the protein. And well, the one with the pork jowl had a tiny punnet of spicy, sour dipping sauce. Overall, I enjoyed them. Tasty, packed a punch with the Wok Hei, and well, not sickeningly sweet. 👍👍👍👍👍 My first gripe was the lack of attentiveness of the waiting staff, who was more concerned with their mobile phones throughout the entire time I was there. Another table was so frustrated, they walked away without ordering. 👎👎👎 The second gripe was, for the price paid, one would expect the restaurant to use regular chopsticks as opposed to disposable ones, and to have a jar of Thai chilli flakes instead of the nasty prepacked ones that lacked flavour. There were no other Thai flavouring condiments that one normally sees that are placed on the table either. Odd... 🤔 The price tag is a little high compared to other vendors. My two plates of Pad Thai and a small can of Pepsi totalled more than 500 Baht. I had to remind myself that these Pad Thai here were a class of their own, above and beyond the ones from the street stalls. At least it was not as pricey as RAAN Jay Fai's Drunken Noodles. If I crave Pad Thai again during my next visit to BKK, I will drop in PTFTL @ Dinso again. And hopefully, I would remember not to choose the wrong dropoff point if I use Grab car. 😂

Excellent pad thai. Pricey by local standards but as a visitor wanting a comfortable environment - this is a great way to enjoy the National Thai dish. We had the shrimp and pork versions. They were both excellent!

Highly recommended. Delicious Phad Thai. I ordered the one with iberico pork belly and it was crispy and moist. I like that they gave 3 types of dipping sauce for the pork. A black sweet sauce, a chilli sauce with a tinge of sourness, and a mustard. I like that they have an air conditioned second level with ample seating. We went at 3pm and food was served within 10min. Limited drink selection though. Only beer, water, Pepsi and longan drink.
