"A favorite for students and staff of Macalester College, Pad Thai Restaurant is a bustling, family-run spot on the west side of campus. The lunch specials are where Pad Thai Restaurant shines: Take your pick from 16 dishes, including the eponymous pad thai and a sour-spicy tom yum, made bright with lemongrass and makrut lime leaves." - Julie Zhou

Decently sized parking lot in the back. Their strength is definitely appetizers. Chicken satay is great and comes with refreshing cucumbers. Fairly priced drinks. Overall a pleasant experience and I will definitely be back to try the egg rolls and pad Thai.

Gluten Free and Vegetarian options galore! Menu is extensive. Food is consistently good. Online ordering is nice and easy through their website, and they make pickup easy. Interior is comfortable and a great place if you decide to dine-in. Absolute must try Thai restaurant.

Google
Our experience was absolutely delightful! We tried a variety of dishes, and each one was a burst of flavor. The Pad Si Yew was a favorite, with its perfectly stir-fried noodles and tender chicken, and the grilled chicken with peanut sauce was an exciting twist. Those vegetarian spring rolls were crispy and fresh, a great start to our meal, and the Thai tea was so refreshing. The place had an authentic feel, the service was spot-on, and I can't wait to go back for more of their delicious Thai dishes.

Google
Lovely little Thai restaurant in a beautiful neighborhood. The server was extremely efficient, although the kitchen seemed a bit slow. It's not the tastiest green or red curry I've ever had, but with the prices and portions of the weekday lunch, I'm positive I'll return.

Google
Nicely decorated but dark we needed to use the lights on our phones to order but good place to go if your going to be with someone you would rather not been seen with But that was not the case for me I took my wife here for her birthday and have a good time after reading all the good reviews but our experience was different the service was friendly but kept to the basics which was surprising since there were just a few other tables with people at the time in the restaurant. My Pad Thai didn't look like appetizing like the photos posted it was dark and didn't have any bean sprouts plus very few onions just pretty much noodles some chicken and sauce. My wife's Pad King didn't have any vegetables except a cucumber and tomato garish just mainly chicken in a heavy garlic sauce our server didn't seem surprised at all that my wife hadn't eaten her dinner or want a to go box.

Google
I never leave reviews, but tonight I had to. I placed an online order at 8:25 and our food was ready in literally, I’m not exaggerating, 6 minutes! Since I moved to MN, Pad Thai has been a staple, with consistently great food and great service on each and every visit. And tonight was above and beyond!

The food was quite good, service was slow but pleasant & friendly.

We have eaten at pad Thai twice and had the most lovely server Katelyn. She was very attentive and friendly. We were very impressed by how quickly our food came out.

Yelp
Overall, Pad Thai Restaurant in St. Paul is quite good! It's a relatively large restaurant so I was seated right away which was great. I'm a big fan of Pad Thai so of course, I ordered their Pad Thai. It was delicious and included plenty of flavorful sauce and meat. I also ordered the Gang Kha with chicken, it was also very good -- It had the perfect amount of coconut milk. The service was very fast and the food also came out very quickly. The only downside of Pad Thai Restaurant is the street parking. It's right on Grand Ave so highly recommend parking on Cambridge Street.

Kelsey D.

Yelp
I was excited to try Pad Thai Restaurant after we were in the area. I saw a review they had gluten free egg rolls and had to try them. We got egg rolls, pad Thai, and a red chicken curry. I am not sure which item it was but I felt very bloated after and may have had some cross contamination. The food was not my favorite thai I've had but it was cheaper than others. I'm disappointed I didn't feel well after. There is a lot of parking in streets around the building. Chicken entrees are around 13 dollars a piece with appetizers around 6.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Great service! Delicious food. Couldn't believe how quick the server attended my table moments after being seated. Luckily , I knew exactly what I wanted and the appetizer was out in what felt like seconds. The entree wasn't too far behind making me totally impressed with the speed. The iced Thai Tea with cream was the cherry on top. There is a great parking lot in the back and then free parking anywhere on the street. I am rating it a 4 only because the interior felt slightly dirty. With a little upkeep, maybe some patching and a nice sweep, I'd rate this a 5.

Sydney K.

Yelp
The Tom Kha (has a slight variation in name on their menu) was really yummy. Tons of chicken and vegetables and a delicious flavor. The menu stated that their spring rolls were the best in the twin cities and I didn't snag a picture, but I would venture to say they're the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, the pad Thai wasn't my favorite as it seemed like it didn't have a ton of flavor. A bit of a bummer for a place named Pad Thai, but I would still come back if I was in the neighborhood.

karen k.

Yelp
Great service. Try the fresh spring rolls very nice and loved the a shrimp Pad Thai. Private lot to park. And nice atmosphere inside.

Freya R.

Yelp
Omg the best Thai food in the area I have had so far. The service was exceptional and very professional and so polite. The ambiance is outstanding with dim lighting and Thai temple like vibe. Honestly I felt welcomed and honestly a part if the Thaiwanese culture. It was remarkable and honestly the best experience I have had by far with a authentic Thai restaurant. Thanks so much for an amazing experience.

Crystal V.

Yelp
I met a friend here for lunch Friday 3/1/24. While we were waiting to be seated we saw a mouse run across one of the ceiling beams. Needless to say we decided to have lunch elsewhere. I know mice can happen sometimes but to see one run across a beam in the middle of the day points to a larger issue. I don't plan to return to Pad Thai which is a bummer because I have heard good things about their food.

Jessica S.

Yelp
I live a block from here, so my husband and I frequent here often. The food is delicious and lots of vegan options! We normally do take out but have eaten in before!

Oni M.

Yelp
Oof. Ordered the coconut soup. For $20 (I got the chicken) you get absurdly sweet broth with not a vegetable in sight. No cilantro, no carrot, not even a bamboo shoot! Come on man. Can't say I've ever had a soup that made me cough because it was so sweet. It was inedible and I felt bamboozled.

Callie C.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, lots of seating, big menu! We tried the Green Curry Pasta with Fried Tofu and Pad Thai with Mixed Vegetables and they were both great. Pad Thai had a lot of flavor, the Green Curry had a nice balance of curry to noodles and was on the sweeter side. I would probably order the red curry next time as I tried my brother's and preferred it to the green. Good portion sizes and FAST service--we got our food minutes after ordering.

Ava C.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Pad Thai Restaurant late on a Saturday afternoon. There was plenty of parking in the back and the restaurant wasn't too busy so we were able to get seated at a booth quickly. He ordered the Thai coffee and I ordered the spring rolls and fried tofu as starters. He really enjoyed his coffee and we both loved the starters. I especially enjoyed the fried tofu and thought it was cooked to perfection! For our main dishes: I ordered the Pad See Yew and he ordered the Drunken Noodles. I got a spice level of 2 out of 4 and he got a 3 out of 4. I loved my dish. It was exactly what I needed as a late lunch pick me up. The flavor was superb and the spice level was perfect for me. He really enjoyed his drunken noodles and appreciated the amount of sauce on the noodles. He did think his dish was very spiced but he really enjoys spice. The service we received at this restaurant was great. Everything was done quickly without it feeling as though we were being rushed. Overall great experience and I am craving my noodles.

Amanda S.

Yelp
We've been coming here for a handful of years and have never had a bad meal or experience! My favorite dish is the yellow curry with fried tofu and my husbands is chicken pad Thai. We always get the cream cheese puffs and fresh vegetarian spring rolls. The portions are heavy enough that you could share a dish with another person, or have a second dinner to take home! You can choose your spice level which I love! The staff work so hard to make sure you have a nice meal. It's a ma & pop kind of business so it always feels good to enjoy a meal there. The ambiance is authentically Thai with beautiful scenery and comfortable booths and tables. We've gone with large groups and just us two, no matter what we always have a great experience. We used to live in the cities but have since moved to the suburbs but whenever we are in the area we make sure to grab food at Pad Thai!

Grey S.

Yelp
Pad Thai is our go to Thai and they proved again why last night. Had guests in from CA and across the River 8 of us total). Every dish we ordered was delicious. Pad Thai, red curry chicken, Thai beef salad, spring rolls, pad si yew, As one of our friends (from across the river) said to me, "this is the best Thai food I have had in a long time". Great service as well.

Emily M.

Yelp
My absolute favorite restaurant in the entire world. If I could choose only ONE restaurant to eat at for the rest of my life, it would be Pad Thai on Grand!! It makes me so happy to come here, everyone is so kind and friendly and the food is ABSOLUTELY incredible, my favorite food in the entire world. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!! If you need a recommendation: pad thai, or my favorite, red curry pasta with shrimp. The side dishes are also SUPER good! The mango sticky rice is a MUST if you come here!!! The best Thai food in the Twin Cities hands down. Always makes me feel better and brings a smile to my face!

Rachel B.

Yelp
Being part Thai, I am very judgey when I try Thai food and it isn't authentic. I have only tried very simple dishes here so I do not have much to say about authenticity. I've stuck to fried rice and pad thai when I come and they both have been good! I've also never dined in so I do not have much to say regarding that experience but it's always been very easy to do pick-up!

Mandy C.

Yelp
Pad Thai NEVER disappoints. We've been eating here for years and it's always been great! Noodles are always perfect. Vegetables are always cooked just right and are always delicious! Our personal favorites are Thai Green Curry (Savory and slightly sweet), Pad Woon Sen, Pad See Ew, Gang Kha, and Papaya Salad! They also have perfect Thai Beef Jerky and Fried Egg Rolls! 5 Thumbs up and all the stars!

Tracey F.

Yelp
If you don't know that this little gem by Macaelester exists, stumble upon it soon. Food here is great. Like the name of the restaurant, the pad thai is its specialty. I get this on occasion, but I absolutely LOVE the pineapple fried rice and cream cheese wontons here. Those two are my go-to's. Check out the specials, you can also find a hidden gem of a dish there. The couple reasons I knock off a star are for spice level (like most Thai food, hot is HOT), but the "step up from mild" was too much for me. The service can also be a bit slow at times (even pre-pandemic), but is always friendly.

Kabao Y.

Yelp
Had their vegetable spring rolls and pad thai! Very delicious. The spring rolls come with a fish sauce with crushed peanuts, though I'd prefer a peanut sauce. The pad thai comes with crushed peanuts and meat/protein of choice. They come in large servings, so there will be leftovers! My partner had the cheese wontons and yellow curry and he loved it! We will be coming by more often.

Neuy D.

Yelp
Ordered drunken noodles, pad Thai, and fried rice. Some of the pad Thai in the cities. Not sweet which I love.

John A.

Yelp
This restaurant is a staple of mine. The portions are super generous, the fried rice and pad Thai are always spiced to perfection, and they are quick in preparing an order for pickup.

Jean X.

Yelp
This is my go to Thai restaurant in the twin cities. They deliver on the flavor each and every time I go. Each dish has it's own distinct taste, I can respect that when there is a menu as large as theirs. The Tom Yum Soup, Beef Laab and Green Curry are a must!

Molly M.

Yelp
A couple of things to watch out for: Spiciness is 1-4 so watch out what you order! 3 is plenty spicy for me..has anyone done a 4 and survived? Their hours-they close at about 2pm & reopen at 4pm. It is disappointing to get there, only to be turned away. There is parking behind the building (that's why I've included the photo). We've skipped eating here before because I didn't know about the parking lot! Some items are not my favorite here, but they have a rocking pad see ew & a white noodle specialty dish that I can't remember the name of

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Take-Away food experience during the coronavirus pandemic: I ordered item #506, spiced "mild to medium" - Pad Talay Kratiem Prig Tai - which is described on their menu as: Stir-fried combination of shrimp, scallops, garlic, black pepper, on top of steamed vegetables. It comes with steamed rice. What was in my dish: 3 large scallops (one with its tough connective muscle/tendon still attached), maybe 6-7 nice size shrimps, maybe 6-7 pieces of broccoli and maybe 10-12 paper-thin slices of carrot - all swimming in a deep pool of "sweet-ish" liquid that contained ample shavings of garlic. "Spice" was non-existent. Given the menu's description of the dish, I was expecting something different. I definitely did not receive seafood "on top of steamed vegetables". In my opinion, dish is grossly over-priced for what is served. If this place was not in my 'hood, I would never patronize it.

R T.

Yelp
Based on the reviews, it was hard to gauge how the restaurant was, as it seemed to have either 2-3/5 vs 5/5 stars. I ordered takeout, and for me, my experience was okay. A couple of the dishes I got included the green curry and the drunken noodles. They were good portions. The green curry was very creamy, but the flavor was pretty good and it had a good helping of tofu (the protein I chose). The drunken noodle, however, was 90% noodles and very few of the vegetable and protein ingredients. The first bite had a nice tangy bite, but that was it - the rest was relatively bland. The prices are fair. I can't say anything about the service as I ordered takeout and did not dine in. I do not think I will go back, as there are better (and more flavorful) Thai food elsewhere. Perhaps if I do though, I would not order the drunken noodles and would give another dish a shot.

Maggie A.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant hands down! Service is always super friendly and fast. If you go in to sit down or do take out your order will be ready in 15 minutes at the most! If you're looking for a really good order there get the green curry pasta! The 402 pad prio wan is also very good, but the green curry pasta has my heart. Cream cheese puffs are amazing as well!

Breanna A.

Yelp
My favorite Thai restaurant in St. Paul! I prefer to go over lunch as they have a good, affordable lunch menu. Delicious green curry!

Derek T.

Yelp
I just moved to the area and I have officially found my new Thai go to! Everything we ordered was awesome! Loved the egg roll and vegetarian spring roll and the sauce that they came with was sweet and vinegary and garlicky. Also would highly recommend the pad woon sen, super flavorful and a great vegetarian option. We got medium spice level and didn't really notice any spice at all so if you like spicy food def order a higher spice level.

Lyn H.

Yelp
I have been to this location three different times and I would argue its the best in a small radius... I would have scored it four stars because the food is pretty decent, but nothing to write home about. However, each time I have been there the service is always subpar. I have been a server and I get it, you have days ... but each time I felt like I was such a bother. I don't need a hug, but when I ask for a refill of whatever or a to-go bag - eye rolls or a attitude in the tone of voice has been so off putting. What you can expect is pretty decent food for the location. I have enjoyed the spring rolls multiple times with great consistency. I will more than likely come back for take out, but not dining in.

Pamela B.

Yelp
Ordered pick-up tonight (and yes, we did include a tip) and found when we got home that one container was not closed. The bag was soaked, the car seat upholstery is stained and the wet container dripped down my pants and on my shoe when I pulled it out of the bag. Unfortunately the food wasn't much better. My pad asparagus was very watery (even though a lot of the liquid had leaked out). I asked for medium spicy but there was no heat at all - it was bland in addition to watery. The rice was congealed and clumpy. Not sure if we will order or eat at Pad Thai again. A very disappointing and expensive experience overall.

Quoc D.

Yelp
Came here as our second choice since the wait was too long at our first choice. Food was okay and it wasn't my first time here. We ordered the stuff chicken. The lemon grass flavor was a little bit too much. For entrees, we ordered the beef pad see yew and spicy chicken. The pad see yew was okay but the noodles were a little bit broken up. The spicy chicken was a little above par. We didn't get the curry nor the pad thai because we have had it here before. Just stick to the curry and pad Thai if you visit.

Tony W.

Yelp
First time here and I really liked it. For a Wednesday night this place had a good amount of people in it. We stared out with spring rolls and wontons. They came out FAST, I blinked and they were at the table. Both tasted very good and fresh. Dinner came out quick as well. I had the peanut chicken and it was perfect. I can't wait to go back here.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
I am a thrifty shopper when it comes to Thai. I love a good value and the food has to rock. I have been here 3 times and have always enjoyed the food and the service. I have the friend tofu pad thai, Thai spice level .... you should try it. I also have the fried tofu appetizer, something I have not seen anywhere else. Huge chunks of deep fried firm tofu with dipping sauce. If you do not eat meat they have lots of options for you. This is my new go to place for Thai in St.paul

Stef N.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood favorite! I return again and again for the 306 Green Curry with Chicken since my neighbor introduced it to me. The coconut layer is extra rich and the zucchini and green beans are always just cooked to a tender crunch. My kids like the chicken satay and fried spring rolls, and a few of the soup "appetizers" with lunch have been outstanding. We've had a few misses. A bowl of soup that was mostly chunky onions, extra greasy noodles. Some of the sauces are a bit heavy. But overall, the vegetables are fresh and the meat tender. The regular spice on the items I've had is just enough to make it interesting when my almost 50-year-old stomach can't handle the extra heat. They are quite good at leveling up the spice as you'd like. What most impressed me on my last trip was the level of care they are using in this Covid-19 time. They have a table in front of the register for extra distance, "New" and "Used" pen bins that are being cleaned, a chair set off at the side away from the door to wait for takeout, and the cashier wore a mask and gloves.

Joe I.

Yelp
Had takeout here recently. Staff were very friendly and food was ready when promised. My green curry was good, not great, but a solid good. My wife's pad Thai was not good. It was like an ingredient was missing. It looked fine, but the taste was off. Not awful, just not good, and certainly not good for a namesake dish. I went with this location due to proximity, will return to more familiar options in the future.

Trenton V.

Yelp
Pad Thai Grand Cafe is one of the best Thai restaurant in Minnesota, and a true hidden gem. I have been here many times over the years and they have yet to disappoint. They are very Authentic and everything is always extremely fresh. The staff are beyond amazing and super friendly so if you need any recommendations just ask. They do not mess with spice here, and if you tell them you want to cry you are going to cry (I learned this from personal experience). But don't worry if you are not a fan of feeling pain when you eat they can make anything on the menu as mild as you want. They also have amazing spice racks so you can adjust the temperature of your meal right from your table. They usually give the spice rack to you right when you are seated, but if they don't just ask. I encourage all Thai lovers to come to Pad Thai Grand Cafe. You will not leave disappointed, but you may leave crying. I promise you will have a grand experience. 5/5 -Trenton V

Laurie A.

Yelp
Still a go-to favorite! I can't say enough about their super affordable lunch special. Nothing fancy, romantic, or special about the ambiance. Just good, simple food.

Gary B.

Yelp
I ordered 2 items to go. Sping rolls and chicken pad Thai. $18 The spring rolls were devoid of flavor although I did get a faint whiff of basil, once. 2/5 Pad Thai must translate into "all noodles ". And boiled and stuck together. It was one dry mass of tasteless starch. The "chicken" was dry and thankfully undetectable. There was a tiny sliver of scallion which seemed to be chosen with a tweezers. The lime wedge would be perfect with a T&T I have been to Thailand and this was not good. When I go to ethnic restaurants I choose the traditional dishes. This was like somebody ruining my grandma's hot dish To the compost I go.

Tim B.

Yelp
Fantastic! Very nice and very tasty! The food is presented properly and all the flavors are present too.

Alida P.

Yelp
Pretty decent food but the technique is a bit different, less traditional, than comparable Thai restaurants. The duck curry for example seemed to have the main ingredients and flavors I would expect but the tomatoes were very undercooked and I prefer the duck meat a lot more tender. Presentation was beautiful and the staff was very nice.

Patti I.

Yelp
I just got the most insipid plate of chicken pad thai I've ever eaten. This restaurant has served some really good green curries in the past and so this time I thought I'd go with the namesake dish for variety. But it was too sour, too salty, and lacking color and nuance--just a plate of brown, cut-up noodles in vinegar-y sauce with bean sprouts, a few bits of chicken, and peanuts sprinkled on top. No herbs, no other veggies, and no sweetness. I asked for it medium spicy and it was completely without heat. I'm not willing to write this place off completely because it's conveniently located for me and I've had good food here before, but if this keeps up, I'll go elsewhere.

Liz S.

Yelp
My go-to Thai craving fix. The pad pak (403), pad khing with beef (406), and Thai green curry pasta (708) are fabulous. Get the 406 if you love ginger! The vegetarian egg rolls are amazing and chalked full of vegetable yumminess... you won't even miss the meat.Take out is always fast (ready in 15/20 mins) and service is always very prompt in person as well.

Ralph M.

Yelp
We ordered take-out. Pad Thai, red curry noodle dish, spring rolls and cream cheese puffs. The appetizers were ok and about what you would expect from any Thai place. However, the Pad Thai and Curry Noodles were not even on par with frozen microwave meals. In fact I think the frozen pad thai from Trader Joe's was better than theirs. Any flavor or sauce was not even mixed in but at the bottom of the container. This made the noodles too dry to even fix the dish by mixing yourself. The curry sauce on the other dish was sitting on top and gummy. We ate within 10 minutes of picking up the food too as we live close. Super waste of money and, if this is standard, then I am surprised this place is even in business. The restaurant itself looked very nice, inviting, and authentic and so did the website. Never judge a book by it's cover I suppose.

Sarah W.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants! The service is great and the food is amazing!! It doesn't matter if it is the fried rice, Pad Thai, or Curry dishes -- AMAZING!! Favorite and family friendly!

Andrew E.

Yelp
Excellent curries with a wonderful blend of flavors. I very much liked the Green Curry Pasta spiced to order (for me, medium). Pleasant, small dining area, with the first room very nicely decorated. Prompt, pleasant service. Lunch specials ($7 to $9) a very good value. Pad Thai Grand Cafe is on a very busy street in the midst of Macalester College, but note that there is ample free parking in the back of the restaurant. Also, easily accessible by bus.

Ashley R.

Yelp
My new favorite Thai place in St. Paul. My husband loves spicy food and they did not disappoint! He requested extra spicy and he is sweating which he loves. Everything tasted very fresh and was amazing! Egg rolls were amazing as well!

Treena C.

Yelp
Underwhelming. Mediocre customer service that took a good 10 minutes to even take our drink order. Appy Chicken satay was very nice but my entree of green curry was watery and bland. I have never been to a Thai place that doesn't ask how spicy you want each dish- but I guess they assume everyone here doesn't like spice much. Chicken was moist and veggies were fresh, but some more flavor would get me back.

Jaime H.

Yelp
Very good food! My family is from Thailand and it reminds me of home. I love Their pad see ew is so good! And the service is great! Support local businessssss!!

Yountae A.

Yelp
I had dinner twice here. Last week, I tried a stir fried dish that had shrimp and vegetables (#506). It was ok. I'd give it 2 & 1/2 stars. Today, I got the pad thai and it was the worst pad thai I've ever had my whole life. I mean, it was the most insipid and tasteless thai dish I've ever had. So sad.

John R.

Yelp
Been to many Thai places around the cities and this rates right up there with the worst of them. For a place with pad Thai in the name, and license plate, it was the worst I think I've had. Zero bean sprouts in it. Couldn't find much of anything besides noodles. It was basically a small lump of noodles stuck together. A very small portion compared to other places around. The pineapple fried rice was good but that's all I can say was satisfactory about the place. Service, not so good. When we ordered was never asked how hot we wanted it so thought it would come with a little spice but zero. That's on me for not questioning the spice I guess but I am always asked at other places. They are proud of their food with the prices too. Couple dollars more on most dishes than anywhere else for less food that doesn't compare. I will stick to my favorites Supatras on 7th or Taste of Thai Yai in Apple Valley.

Courtney B.

Yelp
Tasty Thai food and great service! I enjoyed the spring rolls (especially the sweet dipping sauce). The Pad Thai was not my absolute favorite, but it was pretty tasty. It had a peanut-y flavor, but with a hint of soy sauce (a new flavor for me in a Pad Thai dish). Luckily, it wasn't fishy at all. Decent prices and quick, nice service too.
