"You moved to the wild, wild west about a year ago to pursue your dreams. Nice. Luckily, catching up with your mate from Angel is still pretty easy if you choose to meet at Pergola in Paddington. This spot is like the beautiful love child of Borough Market and Barcelona’s La Rambla, with food from folks like Patty and Bun, in what is essentially, a very aesthetically pleasing rooftop garden. Think, BBQ you can eat with your fingers, frozen margaritas, and enough foliage to make Alan Titchmarsh happy. Plus, even if you end up getting a bit lairy on craft beer, it’s just a short trip home." - heidi lauth beasley
"All Londoners must at some point, go to Paddington’s Pergola for a date, a birthday, or a SPONTANEOUS SUMMER HANG. It’s a rite of passage involving great views, daybeds to lounge on, lots of foliage, and many, many £10 cocktails. Although this huge, sprawling rooftop situation is at its peak during the summer, they provide plenty of blankets and heaters to keep it cosy during the colder months. If you happen to be hungry, there are also plenty of food stalls to get involved in." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"Maybe, you’re looking to talk to someone who, we don’t know, just maybe, you... like... fancy. But, only if they have a glowing personality too, right? Pergola has that rooftop vacation feel where a little flirty chat is golden. After all, what goes better with a £7 frozen margarita than a bit of friendly banter? A place like this doesn’t have to have that horrendous mating ground feel of the bars of your youth, where you half expected David Attenborough to appear from behind a goldfish bowl of booze to whisper, ‘here we see the lone wolf, advancing on a group of apprehensive students’. Don’t worry, there’s French street food, bao, classic burgers, and roomy day beds to recline on. It’s all completely above board. Grab a drink (or two), casually wander up to that person who’s caught your eye, and totally capitalise on the romance of the London skyline at golden hour." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"If frosé, burgers, and dumplings sounds like your sort of party, then Pergola Paddington is where you and your pals want to be heading. This enormous open-air market is non-stop come summer, but grab yourself a spot and you’ll find it’s an extremely easy (and dangerous) place to pitch up in." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Much like with your four-year-old nephew, this picky friend’s preferences appear to be constantly changing. This week they love meat, but only meat that doesn’t look like meat. Next week, they hate meat, but have had a revelation about peas, but also now hate pasta. It’s confusing. Take them to Pergola where the constantly revolving street food vendors mean your pal not only has several different dish options but also several different cuisines to choose from. This place also has a mean cocktail menu that you should get involved in, if, of course, your mate still likes cocktails this week." - heidi lauth beasley
