Bartender rocked it was such a chill nice bar and even though it’s a smoking bar it didn’t reek of smoke ! Love it’s always sunny best show ever

Riyah Ware

Google
Lexi was my bartender and she was so sweet. I think she said she was new but I couldn’t tell. She made my drink actually taste so good and answered all my questions. I WILL be back and i hope she’s my server.

Liz Barton

Google
This bar had great ambiance! Just like the show and the staff member there was very friendly and welcoming. There’s a large variety of liquors and some interesting beers on tap. You can smoke inside which is cool. Cute little Philadelphia bar. You can also buy shirts. A+++

Adam Hardy

Google
I went there the same reason any other tourist goes there...the name. It's a dive bar, a real one. But the staff and the clientele were all so nice, entertaining, and chatty. It felt like I was in the Cheers bar despite being an out-of-towner. It's cash only, somehow smoking is allowed inside, and it's a place that if I lived in Philly, I'd be in several nights a week to destroy my liver.

Tom G

Google
Really friendly barkeep and patrons who greeted us as we walked in. Had a few drinks. Reasonably priced. Would have given atmosphere 5 stars except for smoker who sat next to me.

Samy Morgan

Google
Cool dive bar in Old City. Few beers on tap and a full service bar. Great prices too which was definitely welcomed. Our bar tender was really cool; she went upstairs to search for a shirt size for my husband to purchase. They have stickers and other stuff available for purchase too. They do allow smoking inside so be prepared for that

Codey Joshua

Google
It’s not always Sunny in Philadelphia, today’s weather was absolutely terrible overcast and rainy, but still had a great time this place seems like just such a neighborhood bar, pretty fun reasonably priced and you can smoke cigarettes inside

Gavin Dundon

Google
So, I don't usually give a critical review but I am enforced to give one now. After having a drink earlier in the day, without any challenges from bar staff. I decided to have a drink to end my night. The bar staff asked for my id, which was a surprise, and then told me I have to leave because it was from the UK. So is this pb banning people from UK?

Yelp
Was in Philadelphia for the weekend-- I came here cause my friend loves the show Always Sunny, I had to get her some swag. I am so glad a made the detour to come here. The drinks are great, the ambiance and the energy perfect dive bar atmosphere. Felicia the bartender was sweet and hilarious. So welcoming. I met Frank and Joe, awesome guys. Lots of laughs. If I ever make it back to Phili this will be my first stop. *if you don't like smoking Don't go! * if you don't have a drivers license Don't go! *if you're an uptight douche with high expectations Don't go! Aloha

Yelp
As fans of "Always Sunny", we had to stop in for a drink at Paddy's during our recent vacation in Philly. I didn't know it was as close to city center and so many of our other stops as it is, and after leaving here we were a short walk away from Yards Brewing for dinner and another drink. This is a true, old-school "dive" bar like every bar I ever truly loved. Haven't been in one quite like this in some time, actually. Very friendly bar tender, friendly patrons (judging by their conversations it was a nice mixture of tourists and locals), fair drink prices and options (don't order food, it's obvious that isn't encouraged LOL), and (while we were there at least) good music and TV. As most have mentioned, it's a smoking establishment so if that truly bugs you maybe opt to drink elsewhere. A handful of people were smoking while we were here and it was not overwhelming, I can imagine at a busier time it might be to some, though. Had to grab a souvenir shirt, glad they have a variety for sale!

Yelp
Great local pub for a taste of Philly. Interesting collection of characters you will enjoy and just a great place to get a cold beer.

Yelp
Needed a place to briefly hang out for a half hour and we tripped over Paddy's, a small dive bar apparently the inspiration for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." First, didn't know there are bars you can still smoke in any U.S. city, let alone Philadelphia. (A warning if you don't like smoke.) Second as a designated driver for the evening, tried a nice zero option, Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher. Worth checking out including all the wall memorabilia.

Yelp
As huge fans of It's Always Sunny, we were eager to check this place out. It's in a charming and fun area of Philadelphia and was an easy walk from our downtown hotel. While it did sort of look like Paddy's from the TV show, and we were very quickly greeted and served by a friendly bartender, we didn't stay longer than 10 minutes because the smoke was unbearable. I guess if you're a smoker who wants to enjoy a drink and a cigarette in-doors, this place is for you. But if you're a person who enjoys breathing, I'd avoid Paddy's. I planned on buying a t-shirt, but after being in the bar, I realized the merch was going to smell like an ashtray, so I opted not to buy the "authentic" Paddy's Pub tee and ordered one from Amazon instead.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Cool laid back bar that allows indoor smoking. They have a good sized tv and clean bathroom and the guy working was nice. Large selection of liquor and interesting beers on tap. The guy working the bar was friendly and you can buy shirts!
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Old school smoking dive bar. $20 minimum for cc's. Service and conversation was great!! We didn't get any food but people were eating. Stop in grab a drink or 2 and a t shirt.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
This is the bar that inspired the Paddy's Pub on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My understanding is that the interior and exterior shots of the bar were all filmed on a studio set. Either way, a cool stop for fans of the show. It's a small but charming dive. Teetotalers and pregnant ladies rejoice, they have an amazing non-alcoholic beverage - Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher. I had no idea this existed but the bartender recommended it. I loved it. It was so good. However, I had to hightail it out of there ASAP since the guy next to me lit up a cigarette (I'm pregnant). The bar allows smoking so just be prepared for that. Located in a great area. Walkable to a lot of sights. Check out Elfreth's Alley nearby.

Yelp
Great spot!! Bartenders are great and the vibe is chill. They have a great selection of booze too.

Yelp
Loved the staff, patrons were diverse and fun, music was great, drinks were strong and great prices and it was a perfect Irish pub. Didnt like the indoor smoking -would prefer to not feel/smell like an ashtray but other than that (which is a big deal these days) -great place.

Yelp
Flipadelphia! Smokey dive bar with a kick ass bartender! Had a great time and gotta love the TouchTunes. It's always a win when you can play your own music and make the night.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Classic, city locals bar. I only had 15 minutes to have a quick beer, but I wish I could have hung out longer.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
This is a place off the beaten path which is why I went. It's a local bar of the type that used to exist in small towns and big cities everywhere. These days, places like this are becoming very rare. The bar tender was friendly and helpful even to tourist type strangers like me. They allow smoking in this bar and apparently that is well known by the locals as the place is thick with smoke. Not a bad thing, but if you don't like that, don't go. It reminded me of the bars of my youth.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Great dive bar in old city. Tons of cool photos on the wall. Established 1975. Great service. Fantastic rumplemintz shots. Great place to stop for a couple beers. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Randy M.

Yelp
It's a Bar. The ambiance of a Irish Bar. Friendly. Smoking Allowed. it's what you would expect from a Bar based on the American TV Show "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Reasonably priced beers on Tap.

Christopher O.

Yelp
Good place to meet locals. They were very friendly and great to talk to. I would completely recommend if you are just wanting to go have a chill time and meet people who are real.

Yelp
I've been a fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for a long time. So when I went to Philly on vacation, I knew that a stop at Paddy's Old City Pub was a must-happen. After all, it's the bar which inspired the bar on the show. I stopped by on a week day after dinner. Paddy's is a little difficult to find as it's a small bar on a narrow side street. A lot smaller than the bar on the show. It took me a while to find parking, but after I did, I walked to Paddy's and sat at the bar. Paddy's is most definitely an interesting bar. There's some It's Always Sunny in Philly paraphenilia on the walls. Not a lot but it's there. The bartender told me that the bar is about 50% locals and 50% tourists. They also have free WiFi which is a plus. On the flip side, smoking inside the bar is allowed. Most places these days no longer allow that and it's a turn off for me. Never a fan of my entire outfit smelling like cigarettes when I get home. It's Always Sunny in Philly is known for ridiculous antics from the main characters. Some of the people at the bar might have been inspired because a bunch of drunk bros started singing songs together out of the blue. The bartender told me spectacles like this are not uncommon at Paddy's Old City Pub. If you're a fan of the show, definitely stop by for a drink or two.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. Amazing menu and creative drinks. We spent a few hours there on a Saturday
google avatar

Stacey R.

Yelp
Only for smokers. One of the few bars you can still smoke in, in the city. Great dive bar, cheap drinks and good humor.

Lanai S.

Yelp
Just no. Our "server" Christopher was terrible!! He couldn't even be bothered to see if the microwave pizza was gluten free.

Christie D.

Yelp
Stopped here for the name of the pub, stayed for the ambience and the kick ass bartender Christopher Benjamin. Sad to report the $62 chili is not vegan friendly.
google avatar

Jeremy J.

Yelp
I absolutely love TV show it's always sunny in Philadelphia. So we're in Philadelphia we had to stop by the inspiration for the TV show Paddy's pub and it was awesome we had a great time I got to park and walk in and have a fun experience at the paddy's pub. I didn't see Frank and Charlie here but I did see some local Philadelphians that I feel could be on the TV show for sure. There's a fun place fun to check out I would definitely recommend going in for a drink
google avatar

Gessica A.

Yelp
Classic dive gig, accommodating and reasonable prices. Games on and a hidden gem in the old city.
google avatar

Nelli T.

Yelp
Always been a fan of It's Always Sunny so figured I'd see the bar where the inspiration came from. It's a really small dive bar and attracts tourists and locals alike. The bartenders are friendly and made an effort to get to know you. It is a little smoky inside but the door was propped open when I went. If you love the show like I do, you gotta come in for a drink!
google avatar

Brittany P.

Yelp
bartender was super nice. it's a divey smoking bar. don't expect the world or be a dick complaining about this place.

Jason A.

Yelp
The biggest disappointment I've had in Philly! Unfriendly people. I don't know how a comedy show was based off the people in this bar. You practically need two forms of ID to get a drink! They wouldn't serve my 65 year old step father because his drivers license was issued in the UK. No other bar in this city had a problem with his ID. Ridiculous! Take a pic from the outside and keep going
google avatar

Benjamin V.

Yelp
Do you want to come to Philly and hear locals speak in that iconic accent? Do you want to learn more about Jamaican/British history than you ever learned in school from a guy who literally wrote the book? Do you want to leave with an item checked off your to-do list, but more than that, a whole new world of Hall and Oates trivia? Then you need to go to Paddy's, my friend. Drinks are delicious, bartender is a knowledgeable and friendly smokeshow. 10/10 DO. NOT. MISS!
google avatar

Alexander G.

Yelp
Worst dive bar I've ever been to. Do not visit. Horrible service. The atmosphere feels washed up and depressing.

James D.

Yelp
Loved this place. It's a small dive bar that has a great vibe. Everyone is super friendly and the prices are great. I went on a night that Mallory was working and she was awesome. The best bar tender I've ever had!

Mike G.

Yelp
This place was... interesting. As fans of Its Always Sunny, obviously we had to stop in for a drink. There should be a warning or sign that lets patrons know about the smoking. It wasn't properly ventilated enough to help with the smoke and our clothes absolutely reeked from all of the cigarette smoke. Other than that, the bartender was friendly and it seemed to be more of a locals watering hole (especially for smokers).

Yelp
Just FYI to people who come here for the show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia": The show's "Paddy's Pub" is actually supposed to be located in south Philly, not Old City, according to some episodes within the show. The actual set and exterior of the show's paddy's pub is located in LA. Knowing this, I still wanted to check this place out while we were in philly. Dive bar with smoking and unfortunately no music - unless you want to pay $1 PER SONG.. typical beer on draft and bottles, nothing too special.

Yelp
I only came here because I am a huge fan of the FX show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It was so worth it! On my way here, I did not know what to really expect. Questions I had included: - Is there really any correlation between this pub and the show? - Will the pub look anything like the show? - Will the people (employees/owners) be anything like the characters in the show? - Will this experience (whether good or bad) change my view on the show? The pub was smaller than I had anticipated. It did not look anything like the show portrays. It was actually much nicer and cleaner. The people here were hilarious. I came here for the experience, but I do not drink alcohol. So I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage, the Laguinitas Hoppy Refresher. I was not going to sit at the bar; instead I went outside the pub where there were five patio chairs setup. To continue my experience and the people there, I will just use the initial of their first names because I am not sure what their relation is to the pub. Two men were already seated outside. T was a veteran and a regular at the pub. T was probably the funniest man I encountered in all of Philadelphia. He did not have a filter, and he expressed his opinions loudly. M was enjoying life with his drink and cigar; he also had a much more fancier lawn chair than the rest. M had said a few times as he smoked his cigar, "life is good". L was really sweet, and she was also really funny. She talked about history for most of the conversation. L also shared with everyone the origin of the f*** word as part of her history lesson. C made his entrance known. C was T's antagonist. From the moment C arrived, he was going at it with T; I think it was for entertainment purposes or that was just how they were. Nevertheless, T, M, L, and C all brought their unique personalities and characteristics that made my experience here turn into an over two hour event from what was supposed to be me staying for 20 minutes. After my visit here, I still very much so appreciate the show. But also, I appreciate the people there at the pub. They made my experience a memorable one. Anytime I travel to Philadelphia, I will have Paddy's Old City Pub as one of my must go to places!

Yelp
Here it is folks...Paddy's. The bar "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" was based on. This is my new favorite dive bar. They only serve drinks however you can order food in and you can smoke cigs in the bar. There are more interesting folks at this bar then your other overpriced joints in the city imo. I cannot tell you how happy I was to end the night at this eclectic spot in Old City. You will either love it or hate it but if you open the door and a dive bar is not your cup of tea then hey genius don't sit down or better yet come out of your comfort zone, grab a drink, and try to enjoy the experience you never know that is until you know. #WILDCARDBITCHES

Yelp
I am going to start off with a disclaimer. IF YOU DON'T LIKE A BAR WHERE PEOPLE CAN SMOKE, GO ELSEWHERE! I remember the yesteryears when people could smoke in a bar, and coming from a state that has outlawed the practice, it is actually nice. People are required to step out. Now as a former smoker, I am not upset when people smoke around me, and I enjoyed smoking in bars when I smoked. My wife did not particularly care for this stop, but I loved this place. It's a dive, people are smoking and it smells like cigarettes. I actually remenisc in this and find it enjoyable. It really pisses me off reading these reviews saying "these people should go outside." No! This is their bar, their place to do this. Get out if you don't like it. Smoking aside, the place is grimey, and I like places that are a little dirty. I feel at home. Our bartender was very sweet, the patrons were colorful. The drinks were reasonably priced. I wish we could have stayed longer. But there was so much to do, and so much to see, and my wife was not enjoying herself here. Those wishing to find a place that isn't polished, is more old school, then this is a great spot in Old City.

Yelp
Complete dive bar. We were being touristy and decided to stop in based off of "It's Always Sunny." We had fun, the bartender was super nice and attentive, patrons were definitely regulars. If you smoke you can smoke inside. The inside is very dirty. We grabbed beers and shots. Nothing else substantial to report.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Had to stop in as a Sunny fan. And the experience did not disappoint. Hung out with some locals sharing shots and drinks dancing on the sidewalk. Due to Covid we had to stay outside but definitely made the most of it.

Yelp
I came for the novelty of "It's Always Sunny in Philly" but we stayed for the awesome service from the bartender and owner. We were at Mac's Tavern a few blocks away which is owned by Mac and Dee from It's Always Sunny when my buddy said "Too bad there isn't a real Paddy's Pub". The bartender over heard him and said "Yes there is it's 3-4 blocks north of here". Well that changed our plans and ruined/made my day depending on your perspective. We planned to stop in for 1 beer just to say we came here but stayed for 4 hours! Paddy's Pub is an old school bar. It's one of the only bars in town that you can still smoke. I'm not a smoker but 4 of the 6 guys I was with are and I'm not really bothered by it. Honestly it adds to the charm of the place IMO. The bartender made us aware of something called a "City Wide". Basically its a can of beer and a shot of whiskey for 4.50. Apparently it's a Philly bar thing where you walk into a bar and ask if they have a City Wide and if the bar participates they will have a can of beer and shot of their choosing for this low price. Well Paddy's had a can of Yuengling Premium and a shot of some cheap bourbon. Sounded like a deal to me so I took one...then another and another.....you get the point. At some point the owner shows up and he tells the story of how some producers showed up and offered him 500.00 if they could use the outside likeness of his bar for a tv show. He signed some papers and thought nothing of it. He said that's all they gave him but the extra business and increased t-shirt sales have paid for 2 ex-wives and all his bad habits. Such a great line. Then he said " free round of anything for everyone in the bar!" There were about 20 peeps in the bar so I waited for my double Maker's on the rocks. The owner then put some money in the juke box, tapped me on the shoulder and said " I'm playing 4 Stones songs, you guys play the rest". Dude was fucking awesome! Honestly I don't recall leaving but we got here around noon and I was in bed by 7. We apparently went to the Rocky Steps after this and there is a video of me running them but it wasn't pretty. Thanks Paddy's Pub for ruining my childhood dream but giving me a great time and great stories.

Robby M.

Yelp
Had a outstanding time here. Felicia my bartender was great. Had fun talking to the locals and watching other tourist stop for 1 drink and leave. When you do that you never get to know a place stay awhile order drinks and listen to a story about The Eagles while Desperado plays.
google avatar

Angie L.

Yelp
Cheap and chill Smells like cigs heavy so if you smoke it's a plus but if yooo don't like smoking places dont go Great service speeddy bartender And jukebox music
google avatar

Jim N.

Yelp
I recently visited Paddy's Pub with my daughter for the first time and we absolutely loved this place! We were immediately greeted upon entering by Felicia who might be the coolest bartender I have ever met! She commands the room like no other! Her energy and quick wit made our time here 100 times better! There is no pretense here just a great old fashioned bar in a great location with real people! I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Run Away!!! This place is a shit hole. I see other people calling this place a "Great Dive Bar " It's more like a lousy dump bar. We were in Philly for the day and made it a point to stop here as this is one of our favorite shows. We had to see Paddy's Pub. What a mistake and waste of time. We stopped in at around 9:00 PM. To our surprise there were only 6 locals in this place. They were all smoking up a storm. I knew just because of this we were going to get out of there as quick as we could. The bar tender finally broke off her conversation with 3 of the locals after sitting there for more than 5 minutes two bar stools away from us to ask us what we wanted. Because my wife doesn't drink and I just had surgery and am on meds and can't have alcohol right now I ordered a cranberry juice for both of us. The bartender at this point knew we were tourists and why we were there. She finally brought us our drinks. I already laid out a $20 dollar bill for her to take to pay for the drinks. She took my $20 and then put it back down and said she had to check on something and would be right back. When she came back she informed me the two glasses of cranberry juice would be $5 each because of some bullshit sugar law in Philadelphia. Whatever. Now they were charging $3 for a beer and $5 for a glass filled with ice and a little cranberry juice. I'm from the Chicago area, I known what prices of drinks are. You don't have to tell me why you're gouging me on a drink. In Chicago they just do it. I then asked the bartender when she brought my change back how much the tee shirts were? She said they were $25. Now I know she was really trying to gouge the tourists. She walked away after dropping my change and went back to her conversation with the locals. I knew she was talking about us and what she just soaked us on the drinks because I heard her telling the locals about the sugar tax. We finished our drinks and got out of there. A couple of other things about this place. It is absolutely filthy. The paint is peeling off the ceiling and walls. The bar was sticky and the back bar was dirty. It only looks like bottles were moved just to replace an empty. Otherwise they have never been moved to wipe down any dust or dirt. Before we went in my wife mentioned if they served food maybe we could get something to eat. As soon as we walked in I don't know if they serve food or not but there was no way we were going to eat there. Oh yeah, because they allow smoking, the place smelled like shit. Just a word of advice to the owner of this place. Whether you like it or not, tourists are going to come to your establishment because of the TV show. Embrace it. Clean the place up. Let people know you have some kind of association with the TV show even if they've never filmed inside besides hanging a single picture I'm assuming is you with a couple of cast members and a tee shirt. I don't know how people are giving positive reviews on this place. I have never felt more out of place in a bar in all my life than I felt in here. I had no problem paying $5 for the drinks. We may have had a couple more if we were treated like guests instead of just photo taking tourists. By the way. I still left the lousy bartender a tip. I should send you the cleaning bill for our clothes. Even after washing my jacket it still smells like cigarette smoke. Clean the place up!

Joey P.

Yelp
I came to Philadelphia on vacation looking for a nice Irish pub for a libation and a seat to rest my weary feet. What I found, completely took my breath away. We were met with grins, friendly bar staff and incredible service. We weren't sitting for more than 10 seconds before the most riveting bartender I've seen in all my 24 years of life spoke up quickly to take our orders. Felicia gave us her full attention, spoke to us about all of her best experiences in this historic city and most importantly, kept our drinks flowing. I would, without a doubt, fly back across the country to visit Patty's again. Felicia is undoubtedly the most experienced and courteous staff member we have ever met. If you come to Philadelphia and do not stop at this watering hole, you're an ignorant individual. Don't drink anywhere else. Go to Patty's.

Yelp
Thanks from SC for the home-town feel and hospitality! Jess, the bartender treated us like we have been coming for years, and so did the locals! Cheers and thanks for the memories! Good prices and GREAT PEOPLE!
google avatar

Yelp
This bar is perfect in every way, shape, and form! Yes it's a dive bar. Yes there is smoking allowed inside. But if you were a true fan of Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you'd want the exact same atmosphere that bar creates. The bartender was nice, but had that Philadelphia edge you look for at Paddy's Pub. I was only in for an hour, but it was one of the best hours of my life.
google avatar

Sabrina L.

Yelp
This bar is a crazy dive bar with strangers who become good memories. I came here after a concert at the fillmore and had such a great time. Excellent and quick service. Even though the space is tight, one long bar with seats lined up along it, it was still so much fun. And we met a crazy drunk old guy hiding away from his wife for the night. Really cool hipster feel as if you're a part of it's always sunny
google avatar

Jared B.

Yelp
Paddys. It's literally Paddys! The staff was friendly and this bar is exactly what you'd expect

Anahit B.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars, I would. The bartender was one of the rudest, most unpleasant people I've ever had to deal with at an establishment. Not only is the place completely run-down and dirty, the employees' attitudes just makes the bar even more disgusting. Word of advice, don't tell your customers "it's too early to be dealing with this" when asked a simple question about the shirts you sell. If you're a fan of the show like us, save yourself the trouble and steer clear of the place. Buy a shirt online from somewhere else--anything is better than what we dealt with.

Miranda L.

Yelp
It's old city charm. Small bar, small talk, and touch tunes. Nice bartender. Met someone that said Betsy was banging Ben! Haha

Yelp
"Tails never fails! Tails never fails!" So this is the inspiration of Paddy's Pub in It's Always Sunny. To be honest, a part from being significantly smaller, this looks and feels just like Paddy's from the TV show...which is awesome! So I showed up at this place at like 10:30 am to start my degenerate Sunday morning drinking routine (the morning drive from Maryland to Philly wasn't going to deter me!), and there was a local already in there. He was pretty cool, but the first thing I noticed as we were talking was that he was smoking; ironically, I found it rather refreshing that this bar allows smokers rather than this standing outside and 50 feet away from public buildings blah blah stuff nowadays. And the beer prices, yoooo. I think I paid like three bucks for a mug of draft beer (Kensinger). That is insanely cheap. I could easily see myself getting tanked here. You can use a card here now, but there's a 20 buck minimum. So make sure you have some cash before going drinking by yourself. The bartender was great; a total pro with the banter. By the time I was ready to go, I felt like I knew her whole life story, all the way up til she stabbed her ex with a fork! And you know Philadelphians keep it classy. This guy brings his daughter into the bar to sell some Girl Scout cookies. I bought a box of Samoas and it was a good choice. I can totally see how this place was the model for IASIP. Like the other patron told me, "Wherever I go, I always look for the first Irish sh--hole I can find." And in Philadelphia, this is the place to go for a small bar with tons of local flavor.
