Paesan - Review - London - The Infatuation

"A casual small plates and pasta place in Crouch End, with specialities from all over Italy. We’re fans of Paesan’s original spot on Exmouth Market, so when they took over an empty site in Crouch End, we raced over to check it out. It’s a small and intimate spot and already mobbed with locals in the evening, so we went for a quick solo lunch at the counter downstairs. We were not disappointed. We ordered the Pugliese garlic bread, a generous but inexpensive bowl of orecchiette with friarelli and n’duja (also from Puglia), and a flourless chocolate cake for pudding. All were good. And we’d happily eat it all over again. This is a perfectly fine and inexpensive everyday option if you’re a local, or if you’re heading up to Ally Pally for a thing. Also, the menu lets you do an eating tour of Italy without leaving north London. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Paesan Review - Clerkenwell - London - The Infatuation

"Paesan takes a more traditional slant on Italian food to most places you’ll find in London. And by this we mean that you can take an Italian there and watch as they eat everything put in front of them without complaining once. Paesan’s approach is all about small plates from different parts of Italy - think arancini from Sicily, and burrata by way of Puglia - served with deliciously moreish fresh bread. Or, if you prefer, order one big main portion of the slow cooked, braised beef shin pappardelle instead. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch" - Jo Harris-Cooksley

I’m changing my review to a 5*++ After having had an unfortunate experience on my birthday dinner, Zaria - the manager at Paesan - went out of her way together with the team to give me a second birthday treat. This time, an amazing experience. I was really touched by her humane way of answering to my feedback offering me and my guests another dinner, genuinely wanting me to have a great memory of my celebration. I felt indeed special and I am glad I can return to enjoy the restaurant as before because it has great food and wine, and a precious terrace that’s a rare gem in London.

I visited Paesan for the first time a few days ago and it didn't disappoint. As an Italian, going out in London for an Italian meal is sometimes risky, but Paesan was a great experience. The team was very welcoming and the service very attentive, the food was delicious from start to finish: we had the mixed board as a starter, some focaccia and then two delicious pasta dishes. They also had options for our children and offered them some colouring activities to entertain them. Thank you!

Could not recommend this restaurant enough. Everything we ate from the burrata and focaccia starters to the pastas for the mains was incredible. The tiramisu was sooo good. My personal favourite was the truffle pasta. The service was also excellent, our waitress Kate was exceptional!

I recently dined at Paesan, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. The service was top-notch, super friendly and attentive without being too in-your-face. The real highlight was the food, especially the freshly made pasta. It was absolutely delicious, with perfect texture and rich flavours that really stood out. You could tell the chefs put a lot of thought and effort into each dish. Overall, Paesan is a great place to enjoy some excellent food and a good vibe. I'll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. Even though it was quite busy, the staff remained incredibly attentive and accommodating, especially with our children, which we really appreciated. Zaria and Paola were especially kind and made sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it easy to relax and enjoy our time. The dishes were authentic and offered a unique twist that made each bite memorable. The Beef Shin Ragu, in particular, was outstanding—so soft and tender it practically melted in the mouth, with flavors that lingered long after the last bite. The accompanying sides were perfectly balanced, enhancing the dish without overpowering it. And the desserts—absolutely heavenly! It felt like eating a piece of paradise. The donuts were out of this world! It’s clear the chefs paid extra attention to our needs, ensuring that every dish was crafted to perfection. You could really feel their passion for food in every bite. The service was also exceptional—friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. It’s rare to find a place that excels in both food and customer care. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking to enjoy quality food and warm, thoughtful service. We’ll definitely be returning!

Food was great and the portions very big. Pasta exactly as I wanted it al dente. Also nothing felt too heavy especially the pastas, which means they don’t use heavy creams and other stuff. The best of all was the tiramisu, I am not a big fan generally but that one we had was exceptional. The only issue is the table outside upstairs felt a bit squeezed.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in North London. I was coming fairly often when I was living in Crouch End - now I live in Muswell Hill but I still love to come from time to time. Last night we enjoyed a lovely dinner and little birthday party and Mabel did a brilliant job making us feel welcome. And if you plan to visit, make sure you make a reservation for a table on the balcony - you'll love the spot.
